Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time mrj_nh 8/8/13 2:20 PM

Anyone else having problems getting a Bluetooth keyboard working with the nexus 7 (2013)
while wireless is turned on? The keyboard is having all sort of problems (slow response,
repeating keys, disconnections, etc.).

The keyboard works with my computer no problem (same room and position where it fails
with the nexus 7). I've tried to move to other places in my house with no luck.  If you
shutoff wireless on the nexus 7, the Bluetooth keyboard works great.

Thanks,

Mark

bluetooth speaker does not work with wireless on either.   Does anyone have this working?

Thanks,

Mark

I am having the same issues with a bluetooth keyboard, both repeating keys fast forward or deleting a big chunk of text when trying to delete the repeated character. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I am having the same issue.
I am using:
Nexus 7 (2013, 2nd Gen)
Logitech Tablet Mouse for Android 3.1+
Logitech 920-003390 Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0 Plus

Having same problem, widely reported, of repeating keys using Android 4.3 on new Google Nexus 7 (2013) with Logitech Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard for Tablets. Searched numerous forums to no avail and spent ~ 1 hour over 2 sessions with Logitech techs. Their advice was to power off the unit and try again. That helps but doesn't solve it entirely: if I open the program I want to type into first and nothing else, it will only repeat every few lines and then only a few duplicate keystrokes at a time. This is a pain, but almost workable. If a second program is opened (or, God forbid a third or 4th), the unit goes back to repeating keystrokes until the program crashes, reboots and does it again. The Logitech tech finally told me to send the keyboard back as it is likely a "hardware problem".

It feels like a software problem to me but I can't find a confirmation of that anywhere or a solution.

Is there a Google programmer in the house with any idea what is going on and when it might be fixed??
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time kj-mpls 8/14/13 2:53 PM
From what I've read, I believe this is a larger issue with android 4.3 specifically.

I tested both my:

Logitech Tablet Mouse for Android 3.1+
Logitech 920-003390 Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0 Plus
bluetooth devices on my LG Optimus G running android 4.1.2, and they both worked as expected, fast, no issues, like they should.

I am planning on returning this Nexus 7 (2013) after I complete this app for a client, what a disappointment.
Wasn't impressed with the 1st gen, and the 2nd gen is just as big of a disappointment.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time mrj_nh 8/14/13 4:37 PM

I'm skeptical that this is a Android 4.3 problem.  Try turning off wifi and see if the keyboard works fine.  I wouldn't be surprised if it's an antenna problem.

Also, If anyone has a bluetooth speaker, can they try that too.  I see the same problems with a bluetooth speaker.  I can run the speaker from another device with no problems (keeping everything in the exact same position when I had tried it using the nexus 7). So it's not like I have too much traffic on the 2.4Ghz band.

It would be good to know if this works for anyone.  i.e. is it a manufacturing problem or a design problem.

Thanks,
Mark.

Other than the bluetooth problems, I am pretty happy with the Nexus 7. The screen resolution
makes it a device worth getting IMO if you can live without bluetooth.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Jonathan Steinert 8/14/13 10:11 PM
I'm having serious bluetooth issues on my N7 2013 as well.

If I type on a BT keyboard at approx one character per second, it works mostly OK. If I start typing at full-pace within 5-10 characters the device will start repeating characters and then the bluetooth connection will drop and come back.

If I disable the WiFi it will work a lot better, but as I have no LTE... disabling the wifi is a bit of a no-go for a computer. Nothing makes it work perfect.

I would love to try the unofficial CM image, but I don't want to 'void the warranty' till I have this bluetooth issue solved.

I'm happy to help debug.

My bluetooth keyboard doesnt' work either.  It worked very well for over 4 months, but now nothing happens even when it is paired.  I even exchanged the keyboard for a new one, and it still doesn't work. So I think the issue is with the tablet.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 8/16/13 3:51 AM
Just picked up a 2013 Nexus 7 32GB and have the same issue with the Logitech bluetooth kb for android. It has worked perfectly with my original Nexus 7. I have a 5GHz wireless band on my home router, which the new tablet can see. When I use that band, I don't get the problems with the KB. However, that's not going to help if I want to use the KB on other networks. Seems like a definite interaction between BT and WiFi.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time kj-mpls 8/16/13 6:36 AM
This is most likely because you upgraded to android 4.3, not the tablet.

See here: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/08/02/psa-android-4-3-breaks-compatibility-with-many-bluetooth-keyboards/
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time mrj_nh 8/16/13 6:42 AM

My problem is bluetooth and wireless enabled at the same time. It is not related to the keyboard problem.

I cannot use a bluetooth speaker when wireless is connected either. If I shutoff wireless, both the bluetooth
keyboard and speaker work fine.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 8/16/13 6:46 AM
Yeah, the new Nexus pretty much wants 4.3 installed out of the box. However, I had 4.3 on my gen 1 Nexus and it did not do this. Although KB + mouse never worked well on it, KB alone was never a problem.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Hyun Shon 8/18/13 3:56 PM
I'm experiencing the same problems here.  I own both the new Nexus 7-2 2013 and last year's Nexus 7 at 32Gb, but the newer one has been giving me all sorts of grief since the moment I opened the box yesterday.

The keyboard problem, I called Google twice, and the keyboard's manufacturer (in my case Logitech).  Google has been telling me that the problem was with the keyboard I was using--its wavelength clashes with the wifi, hence causing the problems you and I are experiencing, and encouraged me to try using the keyboard while the wifi is set off.  The keyboard works well (with a few repeated keys once in a while), but downside is, we don't get WIFI.  Another tech support had me do a factory reboot, the problem didn't get any better, so he told me to contact the manufacturer.

I'm still on the phone with Logitech tech support, and the amazing thing that I found out from this is that the problematic keyboard is perfectly compatible with the old Nexus 7 2012 model UNDER THE SAME VERSION OF ANDROID 4.3.

This clearly says something about the new Nexus.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Mario H 8/19/13 12:56 AM
I have the same issue as well except with a Bluetooth mouse. What I have read from other forum posts is that the wifi signal is interrupting the Bluetooth signal. With wifi and Bluetooth on, the mouse has lag and is really choppy with horrid response. But when I turn wifi off, the mouse works like a champ. I dont know why this happens but the Nexus 7 2013 is having some serious quality issues with their device. I requested an RMA from google and am hoping that the device they are sending has no issues major, especially with multitouch.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Romconstruct 8/19/13 3:12 AM
Interesting.
I have the Nexus 7 2012 and had BT and WiFi problems after upgrading from 4.1 to the first version of 4.2.

I'm using BT only for playing music and it was working fine with 4.1 and it is now working fine again with 4.3.

It seems that the new Nexus 7 (which i already ordered) has similar software issues.
But hopefully they get fixed faster this time. Not only for listening to music, but also for the people using BT input devices.

That's discouraging that google is not responsive to this problem.  Can you try setting
your old and new nexus side by side with wireless on and try the keyboard on one at a time
while both nexus's are running.  That will prove that it's not a wireless channel problem.
(i.e. if you can use the wireless keyboard on the old nexus while the new nexus is using
wireless, it has nothing to do with wireless channels (from the keyboard and router at least).
It is not a wireless channel problem for me.

Also, if you talk to google again, could you ask them what bluetooth keyboard is known
to work with the nexus 7 (2013) with wireless (2.4GHz) on. For that matter, what bluetooth
devices are known to work with the nexus 7 (2013) with wireless (2.4GHz) on. I have yet
to find one.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time kj-mpls 8/19/13 7:49 AM
Since originally posting, I returned my nexus 7 2013 and exchanged it for a 1st gen Nexus 7.
I did not upgrade the 1st gen to 4.3 yet, but the Logitech bluetooth mouse and keyboard are working perfectly fine.
Once I finish this android app for a client, I plan to upgrade my 1st gen to 4.3 to see if the problem persists.
I have to wait to upgrade the 1st gen because there are soundpool sound looping issues related to 4.3, that this app I am building is using.
Hopefully I can upgrade later this week and post my findings.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 8/19/13 7:58 AM
All,

After I purchased my 2013 N7, I used it side-by-side with my gen 1 Nexus 7 for a few days. Both were on 4.3. I can assure you my Logitech keyboard for Android worked just fine with the old Nexus. On the new one, I got stuttering and repeated keys, and the KB was basically unusable. Also found that my Microsoft BT mouse was unusable with the new Nexus. I have to say, that I never got my KB and mouse to play well on the old Nexus, but it didn't bother so much since the KB was fine.

Switching to 5GHz on my home wireless solves this problem completely on the 2013 N7, including using the BT mouse. However, I don't think that's a viable solution because not every wireless AP has 5GHz available. Would really like to hear from Google on this; I would think it's a major showstopper, unless they can recommend a tablet and mouse that work correctly.

Thanks!

NOTE: it's not only bluetooth keyboards which have problems.  I see the same problem
with a bluetooth speaker and another poster saw the same issue with a bluetooth mouse.

I have a Galaxy note 2. I just got a microsoft wedge mouse and keyboard (both bluetooth) and am having the same issue: Repeated keys, stuck keys- all random. With wifi off, no issues. It is not a workable setup. I am returning the BT devices. Eager to hear of a fix from Google.

We are experiencing similar difficulties as well.  Just received the 2013 Nexus tablet and Logitech tablet keyboard and we continue to experience repeated key strokes as we type.  Called Logitech and they had me use the keyboard with another Android device and it worked perfectly.  Would seem to suggest the incompatibility is from the Nexus 7.  Any suggestions on what bluetooth keyboard might work or if an update is coming soon for my Nexus????
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Romconstruct 8/26/13 3:43 AM
Has anyone tried if the problem still exists after the latest update which fixed the GPS and multitouch issues?
I'm thinking about getting a (Logitech) BT-Keyboard myself, but if this is making huge problems it would make no sense.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Julie Freed 8/26/13 5:09 AM
We have the latest software updates on our Nexus 7 and it still doesn't work right with the Logitech BT-keyboard.

I have the same Logitech keyboard problem.  I now have 13 days left to return the Nexus 7 which I really like but can't use without an external keyboard.  I'm wondering if the USB connector would allow it to work with an external KB?  I think it may be more than just a Bluetooth issue, though turning off wireless has helped some.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 8/26/13 8:32 AM

I have an issue connecting my Motorola Bluetooth mouse .  it simply wont pair up to my new nexus 2013. Its a simple 3 button mouse and the model number is sjyn0767a.  My Bluetooth keyboard works fine. Hopefully they come out with an update to fix this.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time walid maalouli 8/27/13 8:48 AM
As a physician and administrator, I rely heavily on my Zagg bluetooth keyboard and my first gen Nexus 7 for day to day work, and I find it utterly unacceptable that an OS upgrade has so totally disrupted such a crucial part of the Nexus device. Since the keyboard works just fine with my iPhone 4S, it's clearly a failing from Google.
I suggest Google fixes this in a hurry or I am, as well as my colleagues, dumping my Nexus device in favor of a more reliable one.
This issue has been around for several weeks now, and it is a disgrace. If Google wants to win over customers from the professional world, it needs to become far more nimble than what is has demonstrated with this fiasco.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Reeve Lau 8/27/13 9:21 AM
Similar case here, my new nexus 7 2013 (4.3 JSS15J) is not quite compatible with my new bluetooth keyboard. While my nexus 4 (4.3 JWR66Y) is working perfectly with it.

So far i experience lagging input and repeated characters.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 8/27/13 4:41 PM
I can confirm that JSS15Q does NOT fix the bluetooth issue.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Dave Flack 8/27/13 6:33 PM
It fixed my problems with Logitech BT keyboard.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time mrj_nh 8/28/13 7:31 AM

JSS15Q does *NOT* fix the Bluetooth and wireless problem for me.

I did some further testing, when using a ssh client, it appears that having a bluetooth device (keyboard or speaker) attached will cause the wireless to drop momentarily and drop the connection.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time David Cappelucci 8/28/13 7:42 AM
Same thing literally just happened to me as soon as I connected the keyboard while being connected to Wireless.  I really wish they would just fix this issue so I can use my tablet for everything that I bought it for.  I've also found that the connectivity issue works much better using Chrome on the N7 for things (ex.  Google Drive) than the keyboard actually works inside the (Drive) App. Are you aware of other places we (consumers experiencing these problems)  may be able to go to express our concerns.

Obviously it isn't logitech's issue as much as it is Google's development team.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 8/28/13 8:39 AM
It would be great if we could get an update from Google/Logitech on what's going on. If it's something that could be fixed with either a firmware update or even a different keyboard, that would be fine by me, regardless of the timing -- I'd just like to know. If it's just a few of us with faulty devices, that would be good to know also, so we can get them returned and get working ones. It's the not knowing that is disappointing.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Dave Flack 8/28/13 10:15 AM
No it did NOT fix the keyboard issue I see with more testing.  Sorry to mislead.  It sends horrible strings of repeat characters.  Not useable at all.

I have exactly the same problem. I have a Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard 5000, and it works great with my iPad 2. On the new Nexus 7, it repeats keystrokes from time to time if the WiFi is on, but it works okay if the WiFi is off.

I just got my Nexus 7 2013 LTE (yes it is available in germany already) today and tested it with my Bluetooth speaker and my Logitech Bluetooth audio connector.

I'm having no problems at all streaming music through WiFi and listening to it by one of the BT devices.

I'm thinking about getting a keyboard now.

My Build No. is JSS15J

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Cloudscout 8/29/13 11:51 AM
I have been experiencing the same symptoms where keys would constantly repeat making my Bluetooth keyboard useless on my new Nexus 7 (2013).

The reports from people saying that the issue goes away when they turn off WiFi had me thinking so I did a test.  I went into the Advanced WiFi settings and set the Nexus 7 to only use 5GHz networks.  Then I tried the keyboard again.  Everything worked fine.  It seems that there is a conflict between the 2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth radios.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time David Cappelucci 8/30/13 7:09 AM
So if this is the problem, what is the actual likelihood that this can be remedied via a software / firmware update? Or are we all going to need to send them all back to get the Bluetooth hardware frequency changed? I work around 2.4 GHz wireless ethernet daily, so going to 5 is nearly impossible.

I really wish they would have tested this before shipping.

Well, that's really the question, isn't it. Also, I'd like to know if this is a problem with all units or just a few. If it's all, then I think the likelihood of a fix goes up...

Hi everyone,

To assist us in our investigation, it would be helpful if you could respond to this thread with all of the following information:
  1. What Nexus device you're using
  2. The full make and model number of the Bluetooth device you're pairing
  3. A description of what you observe after you pair the device and notice an issue
Thanks!

By the way I'm marking this thread as "Answered" because it lets me put my post requesting details on the first page, where newcomers can find it more quickly. I understand some of you are still experiencing issues with BT devices -- we are still investigating.

Same Problem here. Nexus 7 [2013] (LTE) aka "deb" with Microsoft Wedge Mouse and Keyboard. WiFi off - perfect. WiFi on - unusable.

This Tablet suxx so far. So many issues. My good old Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 3G is so much better except for the display resolution...and thats what I bought the Nexus for. I want to use it as a kind of Thin Client and now: No Mouse, no keyboard, no 1:1 display mirror via slimport...bah!

1. Nexus 7 (2013)
2. Apple Magic Mouse
3. The Apple Magic Mouse pairs without issue. When trying to use it the mouse does not move at a steady consistent rate. It will frequently pause and lockup. Rebooting the device does not resolve it. Replacing the batteries in my Apple Magic Mouse does not resolve it. Only disabling the WiFi connection on the Nexus 7 restores smooth operation of the Apple Magic Mouse.

Paul,

Here are answers to your questions:

1) 32GB Nexus 7 (2013 model) with Build JSS15Q
2) Logitech Y-R0023 Bluetooth Keyboard
3) Whenever I try to use the keyboard while connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi network, keypresses respond erratically and after typing a few characters, one character will start repeating until I disconnect the keyboard again.  If I turn off WiFi or just connect to a 5GHz network instead of a 2.4 GHz network, the keyboard seems to behave normally.

I am running the Nexus 7 2013. The bluetooth keyboard I am using is the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+. As OP stated, I had similar problems with bluetooth that keep the connection. The icon would blink blue and then grey, dropping the connection with Wifi on. Once I turned wifi off, I had no problems with incorrect inputs.

Thanks Paul,

1. Nexus 7 (2013)
2. Apple Bluetooth Keyboard & Logitech M-RCQ142
3. Keyboard will connect after three tries in discovery mode, then will not pair.  The mouse will pair but will be choppy until I turn off the wifi, then it works perfectly.

I just want to say, this is very disappointing, as this is the first non-ios product I have purchased.  To have a non-functioning bluetooth is quite unacceptable.  I have three more days left to return the device and I have no word on if this is a problem that can or will be fixed.  If I knew, I would probably keep it, but as it is now I will likely return it in a few days.

1. Nexus 7 : Androud 4.3 , Build: JSS15Q
2. Logitech Tablet Keyboard For Android 3.0+
3.The two devices pair. However often the most recent letter pressed is repeated a multitude of times. Further, the unit sometimes seems to jump back and forth, when connected via bluetooth. Turning the wireless off helps nearly completely, no updates have solved this problem. Finally, I have noticed that certain apps seems to actually react differently to the problem. If I go to drive.google.coom in a web browser, the keyboard types far better than in the Drive app itself. This happens with a multiple set of apps, gmail, and calender inclusive.

Hi Paul, I have two Nexus devices. The 2013 Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus. Neither one of them work with my Bluetooth keyboard (Perixx Periboard-805L). I have tried it with two other android devices, a rooted Samsung Galaxy III and a Samsung Stellar. Both those devices worked with no issues. Seems to be a software issue. It will connect with both Nexus devices, but won't do anything while connected. Keystrokes won't work at all.

I have the Nexus 7 (2013). I'm using the Microsoft Wedge keyboard and the Microsoft Wedge mouse. I'm using them both for this post. WiFi is turned on and functioning perfectly. I'm using the JSS15Q update. Everything works perfectly.

Hi,

I use the same mouse and keyboard with a Nexus 7 [2013] LTE and I am experiencing all of the described problems (repeating keys, slow response, mouse completely unusable) if connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi. Can you confirm that you were connected to a 2.4 WiFi during your post? Or is it a 5 GHz Wifi? This problem does not exist if you are connected to a 5 GHz Wifi!

TrashX

I'm connecting at 2.4 with a NetGear R6300 router. I've tested with both 2.4 and 5.

3.The keyboard has all the same issues that are described by the other posts, the letters repeat randomly, "sticky keys", they keyboard works successfully with my android Motorola Phone and previous Nexus 7 2012 tablet
The Sony headset will not pair with the tablet, the tablet never "sees" the headset.  The headset also works well with the previous tablet and my phone.

Bluetooth disconnects once in a while.

Keyboard works fine with other devices.

Nexus 7 (2013) - Seen on both JSS15J and JSS15Q
Microsoft wedge mobile keyboard
Cambridge Soundworks OontZ Angle bluetooth speaker
Airport extreme (2th generation)
Airport extreme (6th generation)

Neither keyboard nor speaker work (frequent bluetooth disconnects) with nexus 7
when connected via wireless (2.4GHz). Wireless also appears to disconnect
briefly during this time (ssh sessions close).

Both devices work fine with the nexus 7 when wireless is disabled.

Both bluetooth devices pair and work fine with other devices (while streaming
from youtube on the nexus 7 over wireless).

Originally occurred with Airport extreme (2th generation).  Upgraded to latest
Airport extreme (6th generation) and see the same problem.

Nexus 7 2013 32GB JSS15Q (Also had JSS15J until recently)

Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0
Microsoft Sculpt Touch Mouse
Linksys E4200 wireless router, firmware 1.0.02

I can pair both devices, but if using WiFi, the keyboard repeats keys and has spurious keystrokes. The mouse tracks erratically. If I switch WiFi off, or use 5GHz band, both devices work perfectly. Using one device at a time or both together produces same results: problems unless WiFi off or in the 5GHz band.

(sorry for multiple posts; deleting the previous 2)

Nexus 7 (2013 model)

ANY of my bluetooth keyboards from various vendors (the keyboard I use the most is my Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0)

I'm experiencing the same problems everyone else is describing anytime I have wifi and bluetooth on at the same time.  If I turn off Wifi, the keyboard is fine again.  If I turn off bluetooth and use a USB keyboard instead, the wifi is working fine again as well.  My guess is that there is some interference between these two and the driver is mishandling keeping them from interfering.  Just my guess based on the symptoms, though.

I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else.

2013 Nexus 7 16Gb
Sony PS3 Bluetooth Keyboard

With wi-fi on, keystrokes are laggy until I start typing faster at which point keys will repeat rapidly and connection to the device is lost. Turning off wifi fixes the issue. The same keyboard works fine on my Nexus 4 with wifi on. It still works even if the Nexus 7 is right next to the 4 with it's wifi on.

Paul,

1.  A 2nd Generation Nexus 7 (32GB) tablet running build JSS15Q
2.  Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 (P/N: X807028-003)
3.  When the tablet is connected to a WiFi access point, the mouse consistently stutters and lags to the point of it being unusable.  When I disable WiFi or tether the tablet to my Nexus 4 through Bluetooth (which inhibits connection to a WiFi access point), the mouse works just fine.

*It should be noted that I'm using an Anker K1280C Bluetooth keyboard that seems to work just fine; however, the issue with the mouse still exists regardless of whether or not the keyboard is connected to the tablet.

Still using the 2013 Nexus 7, Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android 3.0+ still fails while wifi is enabled, and many others do too, but oddly.. my old, old, Think Outside keyboard isn't having this problem (it appears to register in Bluetooth as a 'Broadcom Bluetooth HID' in the keyboard layouts menu, whereas the Logitech registered as 'Logitech Tablet Keyboard GEN').

Does the HID vs GEN make a difference?  Is it because both the tablet and keyboard are Broadcom based?  Boggling that this ONE keyboard out of many actually works out okay.  It's an awkward keyboard to use because of the weird mappings for ESC and other keys--but in a pinch, at least I have SOMETHING now.  Boggling.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Mi1ez 9/3/13 5:24 PM
I take it all back.  It's slightly more tolerant on this older (Think Outside) keyboard, but anytime I type too fast or if I hold down a key to repeat, it starts to have problems too--so, nope!  ALL my bluetooth keyboards have problems communicating with the tablet if WIFI is on.  ALL of them.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Gary Coombs 9/3/13 6:02 PM
After further use my Microsoft Bluetooth Wedge keyboard and mouse aren't working perfectly as I had stated earlier. They both currently respond erratically. I have the Nexus 7 (2013) JSS15Q.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Nik_Martin 9/3/13 8:34 PM
I paired two bluetooth headsets to the N7 a Motorola H300, and an Oticon Streamer (a device that lets me use my hearing aids as BT headset)  and then when I enable bluetooth headset in the Google Now app, and say "Google", the speech recognizer starts, then the wifi signal immediately drops to 0, and the device loses its Internet connection. Any other BT audio enabled app that listens tot he BT headset will also do it, but this is a surefire way to replicate the issue.

Due to this and the OTHER issues with the device (multi-touch, frequent reboots, and GPS) I have returned the device to the Play Store, so I don't have one now to test any fixes on. I'm not sure I'll ever own one again.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Gwyn Chew 9/4/13 1:23 AM
So no sign of resolution yet. I am SO utterly dissapointed, after spending a lot of time trying to choose a tablet, andfinally opting to spend more on a quality product - and the bluetooth doesn't work properly - Nexus 7 2013, JSS15Q, trying to use apple BT keyboard.

For me it is almost pointless to have a tablet without being able to use an external keyboard, with a USB keyboard connected the battery life is very short.

Googles latest and greatest! Please relieve me of my dissapointment...

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time xe0n 9/4/13 3:45 AM
I am having massive issues too!

And I think its again when Wifi Is ON. Im using the Microsoft Wedge keyboard and Apple magic mouse both proving a nightmare at the moment.

But remember when you buy a Nexus 7 you may as-well think of it as a beta device. Afterall its google's flagship testing device.
And dont stress if it is hardware fault it would be recalled. Patience.

Nexus 7 (2013)
While I haven't been using a Bluetooth device, I have witnessed the wifi unreliability issue from the moment I first activated it, whereby the tablet will see networks but refuse to connect to them. When it did eventually connect, I found that disabling Bluetooth and GPS did seem to help it's reliability at connecting to wifi networks. I have a dual-band network but it makes no difference whether I try to connect to my 2.4Ghz or 5.0Ghz frequency bands.
I am thinking of getting a bluetooth keyboard but cannot sacrifice my wifi connection in order to get bluetooth working.
Hopefully this is fixable...
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time xe0n 9/4/13 8:28 AM
Agreed otherwise its refund time from Google..... Its not much to ask for reliable Bluetooth connectivity.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Mi1ez 9/4/13 5:05 PM
I'm less interested in a refund and more interested in seeing a fix.  The least they could do is at least COMMUNICATE with us as customers to let us know they've either fixed it or are fixing it.  I don't appreciate sitting on a device I paid for and wondering whether I should return it for the older model or hang on knowing it'll finally BE the product I paid for when I was told that it supported these things--then turned out it was crippled support of those specifications and capabilities.  I just want communication--is that a lot to ask for from Google?

NEXUS 7 Android 4.3 Build JWR66Y

Grandmax wireless mini keyboard #KB-BT1L-BK

The pairing, connecting, and use worked just fine in mid-June. Since August, they successfully pair and connect, but the NEXUS 7 does not respond to any keyboard input from the Bluetooth device. The RF light blinks on the keyboard indicating transmission. However, no input is recognized in any app on the NEXUS 7.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Daniel_S. 9/5/13 3:27 PM
The sad part is you can rely on a refund (if you are within your store's return window) but can only hope for a fix.

As much as I would have liked to keep my N7v2, I prefer taking my money back and run than cross fingers for fixes for the way-too-many-problems I ran into with my first two specimens.

I have Nexus 7 (2013) - Android 4.3  JSS15Q
 - keyboard GEMBIRD KB-BT-001 (Bluetooth 3.0)
 - mouse Modecom MC-BM6 (Bluetooth 3.0)

Keyboard have slow response, repeat characters (big problem, is unusable)

Keyboard and Mouse work prefect with my Desire X (Android 4.1.2) and as well with my MacBook Late 2009 (A1342) under Mountain Lion.

Please solve this issue as soon as possible :)

  • Nexus 7 2013 16GB WiFi, just got it yesterday.  Updated immediately to 4.3, JSS15Q.
  • Apple Wireless Keyboard, Model: A1314 (new batteries!)
  • The keyboard seems to pair just fine, but suffers frequent disconnections.  When it is connected, typing is a nightmare, after a few letters one will "stick" and repeat anywhere from 5 to 50 times, and attempts to stop it by pressing other keys or the same key again have no effect.   Disabling WiFi has positive results.. but since I'm on a WiFi only device, it's relatively unacceptable to have to kill your only internet access to type an email, only to have to turn it on again to send the message... and forget trying to do that for instant messaging.

  • Same keyboard used on my Galaxy Note 8.0 (running 4.1) has absolutely no issues... works beautifully.

  • Has anybody here tried out Cyanogen 10.2 on this device... does it resolve the issue?

I could be imagining it, but my recently purchased Nexus 4 is exhibiting similar behaviour. It too is reluctant to connect to my WiFi network and also as I use a Bluetooth headset with it, I have noticed it intermittently drops the connection to the headset.

Coincidence? Maybe. Both devices running Stock 4.3? Definitely...

I have a Zagg Flex keyboard that worked fine with my 2012 Nexus 7 until it updated to JB 4.3.  After that it would pair but the device did not respond to any key strokes on the keyboard.  I have bought a 2013 Nexus 7 and it has the same problem.  It will pair but does not respond to the keyboard.  It makes no difference whether wifi is on or off on the Nexus.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time barrybell 9/8/13 5:24 AM
Exactly the same problem here on 4.3.

Apple Wireless(BT) Keyboard and BT Magic Mouse.

Both pair with the Nexus 7 2013 (16GB) and work perfectly when wifi is switched off.

When wifi is switched on, the mouse is choppy, the keyboard is laggy, and I get repeat characters - making the keyboard and mouse unusable.

I've already requested an RMA for this device but am struggling to push this through. I would actually like to keep it, but I'm not convinced that we'll see a fix for this problem anytime soon.

First time I've purchased hardware from Google, and it's not been a great experience at all.

    Paul,

We appreciate the fact that you're in this thread, however, it would be extremely helpful to know what the next steps are. I don't think most of us need to discuss the problem much further, the question is whether or not this is going to be fixable via a firmware update. Even if your answer is "we don't know," that's more information than we have right now.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time xe0n 9/9/13 7:14 AM
True. But this sums Google up in a nut shell.

They don't give a toss........ Using their dominant market position to just ignore the end users regardless of fault.

This is a faulty product (CLEAR FACT!) that has been sold to the masses and it seems google are unable to even put out a small apology statement.

If this Bluetooth will not work it IS a deal breaker. I like many others use tablet devices as mini laptop solutions, I cant see how hard it is to fix a small Bluetooth issue or at-least have the courtesy to inform customers if it is indeed even fixable!!!

FIRMWARE OR HARDWARE google! that is all we want to know before return policy expires from who we purchased the units from!

Bet the NSA are more upto date with the Nexus 7 problems than google by the looks of it!

FFS google do your bloody job and support your customers!!!

    Hi Paul:

You might start with this article:
    http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/08/02/psa-android-4-3-breaks-compatibility-with-many-bluetooth-keyboards/

I own the Perixx PERIBOARD-806, Bluetooth ALU Folding Keyboard. It worked on the Nexus 7 2012 running Android 4.2x. It does not work with Android 4.3 on the Nexus 7 2012 nor on the Nexus 7 2013. It pairs with difficulty and shows connected but the soft keyboard still appears and it will not type.

    Zagg
I'm using a Zagg, and it'll pair. I can enter the code. The Nexus seems to recognize what it is, but once it's all set up the keyboard is completely non-functional. It wont move around the home screens and it wont input in a text editor.

    Spider Bluetooth Keyboard
I recently purchased a Spider bluetooth keyboard and I can get it to pair with my Nexus 7 (which recently updated to 4.3). The tablet recognizes it, and I type in the numerical code and press enter on the keyboard and the Nexus 7 responds. However, I can't get it to work in any other app after it pairs (I've tried unpairing it, turning it off/on, restarting the tablet, etc).

    Kensington Bluetooth Keyboard
I  have a Kensington UK bluetooth keyboard and although it shows as connected and typing the numbers to pair it worked, I get no input at all...

    Apple Bluetooth Keyboard
Is anyone else having issues with their bluetooth keyboard when paired with the Nexus 7? I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard and it repeats characters, and inserts the spaces out of order.

    GYMLE Bluetooth Keyboard
I have a GMYLE keyboard and it will connect but no key will register on screen

My Apple A1255 keyboard pairs but no longer connects in 4.3 on my Nexus 7 (2012).

Is anyone else having issues with their bluetooth keyboard when paired with the Nexus 7? I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard
and it repeats characters, and inserts the spaces out of order. (Yes I'm aware of External Keyboard Helper, and it does help but it makes my typing laggy)

I have a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard with the same issues. My Bluetooth mouse is fairly unless as well. Here's hoping it gets straightened out soon..

My Microsoft Mouse 5000 is also very sketchy with BT on the N7. Again, works perfectly on Nook CynogenMod, and previous N7 (2012)..

have the same problem with my Logitech bluetooth keyboard. It works fine until I turn on wifi, after which is starts disconnecting and reconnecing every few seconds. It's completely unusable. Didn't have this problem with the same keyboard on my Nexus 10 or Nexus 7 (2012).

This is one annoying problem. Have tried all the BT keyboards I have and they all have the repeating char issue.
Same keyboards were all working on my N10 previously on CM10.1 (aka 4.2.2). Have not tried it since updating to CM10.2
since my daily driver is now the 2013 N7. I'm going to try this and see if it is an issue with 4.3 or something specific to 2013
N7. I have to say it's been so nice taking the BT keyboard for granted. Having to type on the virtual keyboard onscreen is such a
    pain.

If you need more URLs or confirmation from BT Keyboard manufacturers, let me know.

Please keep us posted on any progress or recognition of the problem for al of us with paper-weights.

    3. Problems include: repeating keys, skipping inputs, lag time between typing and showing on the screen. Biggest problem is that on waking the tablet and typing something the repeating key issue occurs until I exit the program or hit delete multiple times (sometimes this makes the delete key stick). I tried turning the wireless off and it seems to have helped the problem, but it's not a long-term solution. Thanks

You might have missed that it was answered by Google.

They are aware of the problems and are working on it.
And people should keep geiving info which devices they are using, which combo is working and which is not.

    Hi,

I have this problem too. It is a dealbreaker.

To answer the request for more info:

    Nexus 7 2013 32GB.
Two devices give problems - (1) Microsoft Wedge Mobile Keyboard and (2) Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000.
    Both devices are fine
with other phones/tablets. On my Nexus, I get repeated keypresses, glitchy mouse, as well as random disconnections.

    Please fix!

     Nexus 7 (2013) 32 GB Wi-Fi.

The full make and model number of the Bluetooth device you're pairing

A description of what you observe after you pair the device and notice an issue
Keyboard works fine after pairing if Wi-Fi is turned off. As soon as Wi-Fi is turned on, there are several letter duplications while typing. It was especially bad in Chrome, where I could only type two letters, then it would repeatedly type one letter, until the Bluetooth connection was automatically severed. Same story after reconnecting, i.e. the problems persists.

After reading many reports, Paul from Google had the following response on 8/19: "Thanks for the feedback about Bluetooth keyboard compatibility with your new Nexus 7 tablets. We're looking into it." Nothing from Paul since.

About half of the keyboards don't connect at all while the other half suffer repeated keystrokes, gibberish, non-functional with wireless etc. Choose your favorite incompatibility:

As for other options, I wouldn't believe that any BT devices are compatible with 4.3 unless I see it for my own eyes or have someone I trust verify.

On that note, I got a Perixx 804 Bluetooth Keyboard today and confirm that it works with the Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 7 2013 running 4.3. It pairs, types without repeated keystrokes, works with wifi 2.4 and 5.0 etc.

I returned the N7.2 I bought a month ago and replaced it with a Samsung Note8. Loved the Note8's features and software that Samsung overlays & makes available. The split screen, SD card and pen features were great. But the form factor made it too awkward to easily hold & use with one hand.

So, I returned it and ordered a (barely) used N7.2 (now that the bluetooth-keyboard problems look like software).

It came with Android 4.1 and the bluetooth keyboard had no issues. Replaced that with Android version 4.2.1 and it too works flawlessly. No repeating keys, no repeat until lock-up ... no problems at all so far. I have tested it with several apps including Note and Gmail.

So, now I am getting the "System Update Downloaded" message that prompts me to touch to install. I am petrified that if I inadvertently touch the prompt I'll end up with 4.3 and everything will stop working again.

Any way to get rid if the prompt?

If you want to deactivate the update message, please follow the steps below.

1.) open your installed programmes/apps and switch to the tab "All".
2.) Then browse down to "Google Service Framework" (Google Dienste Framework in German) and open the service/app.
3.) Deactivate the checkbox "Show notification"
4.) The firmware update info is not shown any more, so you can't touch it accidentally

    3. When using the keyboard it frequently will act as if a key is held down, repeating a character, a space or worse a backspace with no ways to stop it. With many apps, namely online ones like IMDB and even Chrome, it will not register a key press at all and instead completely lose connection with the keyboard, regain it, then lose it again as well as even causing the app to crash and a few times even restart the device. This is all with the wireless connection on, no testing with it off.

Nexus 7 (2013) with Microsoft Wedge Keyboard, I get repeated strokes and erratic behavior (crashes Chrome), and just generally very laggy behavior.

Works perfectly when I turn the WiFi off, but this is quite unacceptable - no Drive sync, no notes sync.

Perhaps this is in fact a hardware issue and there's nothing the devs can do to fix the Bluetooth + WiFi interference.

    1. Switch off wifi before pairing my BT devices
    2. Switch wifi on again and set to 5 GHz only (if wifi is already set to 5 ghz, switch to auto and back to 5 Ghz)

I've been working on my virtual W7 desktop all morning. Works flawlessly

Keyboard also works when wifi is set to auto (2.4 & 5), mouse is unusable when wifi is set to auto.

Update 18/09/13: worked perfectly yesterday, today however the BT mouse was unusable at first. Turns out I had to go to my advanced wifi settings again, switch from 5 Ghz to Auto and back to 5 GHz again to get it working normally.

Same here.. got the Android 4.3 JSS15R update on my Nexus 7 (2013), but nothing got fixed as far as I can tell.  My main problem is the Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard for Android Tablets 3.0+ conflicting with simultaneous use of the Nexus 7 WIFI ...I literally got the update about half an hour ago, turned on my bluetooth keyboard and tried to ssh over WIFI (since that REEEALLY makes it go haywire, since typing causes BOTH bluetooth and wifi to do things at the same time) and VOILA!  Still having lots of corrupted keypresse, repeating keypresses and restarting wifi/bluetooth/terminal connections just like before.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time buzzbegone 9/20/13 1:34 AM
Having been considering buying the Google Nexus 7 2013 for several months now, and having seen all these complaints, I just did a little research on this Bluetooth issue.  Apparently Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same radio frequency, and can interfere with each other:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/802.11

In particular, Wi-Fi 'b' and 'g' bands are a problem, for this reason.  These are the older implementations of Wi-Fi - but newer ones exist (like 'a' and 'n' bands) which use different frequencies that should not interfere with Bluetooth.  So, if you're in an environment where you have control over the frequency used by the Wi-Fi access point (like at home), I would try reconfiguring your device to use one of these.  If you're stuck with either 'b' or 'g', it's worthwhile to know that each frequency band is divided into 14 sub-frequencies (i.e. channels), so if your Wi-Fi access point doesn't offer the newer 'a' or 'n' frequencies, I would try reconfiguring the access point to specify a particular channel (rather than all the channels, which is probably the default configuration), and see if the Bluetooth functionality has improved.  It might require some experimentation:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels

If you happen to be using a public Wi-Fi access point, you obviously have no control over the frequency it's using.  So, unless you can reconfigure your Bluetooth keyboard (and tablet) to use only a particular channel within its Bluetooth frequency band (similar to what's described above), in the hopes that you've chosen a channel which won't interfere with however the public access point is configured, there's probably little you can do about it.

Essentially, you want to do whatever you can to ensure that the Wi-Fi frequency used between the tablet and the Wi-Fi access point is different than the Bluetooth frequency used between the tablet and the peripheral you're using (i.e. keyboard or mouse).
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time buzzbegone 9/20/13 1:43 AM
    Per Wikipedia, regarding Wi-Fi:

"802.11b devices suffer interference from other products operating in the 2.4 GHz band. Devices operating in the 2.4 GHz range include microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, baby monitors, cordless telephones and some amateur radio equipment."

"Like 802.11b, 802.11g devices suffer interference from other products operating in the 2.4 GHz band, for example wireless keyboards."
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Daniel01 9/20/13 1:50 AM
And that's the reason why it won't work with my Nexus 7 2012, with both my Nexus 4's, with my Nexus S, and with the iPad, all on the same wifi channel.

I never understood why these bluetooth accessories can be bought en masse, with all the wifi flying around the devices.

Oh, wait, it works perfectly with those, just not with the Nexus 7 2013... I just hope that this is a software issue.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time buzzbegone 9/20/13 2:02 AM
FWIW, without getting into too much detail, there are many different methods of encoding data onto a given transmission frequency, and I believe that there are also many methods of successfully filtering "noise" from the frequency you happen to be using, so that interference effectively doesn't occur.  Whether or not these methods are embodied in hardware or software (or both) is beyond me.  Also, whether they've been implemented correctly (or at all) on the Nexus 7 would also just be a guess.  For everyone's sake, I hope the fix can be completely embodied in software, too!
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time buzzbegone 9/20/13 2:07 AM
@Daniel01: keep in mind that the default configuration for each of your devices might be different from the others, and some minor configuration changes to either the Bluetooth peripheral and/or the Nexus 7 might be all that's needed.  Just a guess here: I don't own the Nexus 7, and I certainly don't represent it!  (and at this point, I probably won't buy it, unless this problem clears up)
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Mi1ez 9/20/13 2:46 AM
This is all fine and well for academic conversations or if you like to only connect to wifi around the house or even have the ability to configure with that kind of granularity on whatever combination of devices you have, but ultimately this is defect.  Even the previous model was able to cope with the interference.  I never had a problem using my plethora of bluetooth keyboards on my Nexus 7 (2012) nor even on my Motorola Droid (A855) nor Galaxy Nexus (toro) nor on my Samsung Galaxy Tab (original 7-inch) while simultaneously using WIFI.  This is clearly something that CAN work and this newer device was released with an obvious set of defects that should clearly have been realized early on if not at QA testing.  Come on, Google!  At LEAST communicate with us.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Thomas Powers 9/20/13 7:13 AM
My problem is similar but not quite identical. I'm using a 2012 Nexus7 with Android 4.3 and a Bluetooth Keyboard (Adresso WKB1000BW). Everything was working fine until the update to Android 4.3. Now, the keyboard and the Nexus 7 won't communicate with each other. I know the problem's not with the keyboard, because I was able to use it with another Bluetooth device.

Assuming the problem to be in Android 4.3, when are we going to get a downloadable fix for this so I can use my Nexus 7 with my keyboard, one of the major reasons I got the tablet in the first place?

    Is anyone at Google listening?

We bought 3 of the Nexus 7 (2013) and all three of them have the same issue. Connect a Logitech bluetooth keyboard, but the wireless drops. Changed the frequency to 5 GHz and the wireless stays on but still cannot connect both the Logitech bluetooth keyboard and mouse. We have 3 of the Nexus 7 (2012) and those SAME Logitech mouse and keyboards work just fine, AND they are on Android 4.3.

Even more interesting is each Nexus 7 (2013) has fun quirk of their own. One likes to crash app anytime you open one, no matter what app it is. Another one has "homescreen" crashes anytime you turn it on. And the other one just likes to reset itself sporadically.

I have no idea what the deal is with the new Nexus 7 (2013) devices, but the old Nexus 7 (2012) doesn't have ANY of the issues the new ones do.

Going to RMA the new Nexus 7s.

this device has had soooo many problems that definitely it doesnt worth the risk of buying it:
"But a minor update for the 2013 Nexus 7 is now rolling out, which is supposed to address the tablet’s touch issues. The software update JSS15R is hitting Nexus 7 tablets       at a miniscule 8MB, with no updates to the software changelog. In addition to touchscreen fixes, many expect to see other small bug fixes and security updates. Notably,         the previous JSS15Q system update did not address any touchscreen problems, to the dismay of many. Some Nexus 7 owners report that Bluetooth issues with their             tablet still persist with this current update."

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time greg sab 9/23/13 6:28 PM
I also updated to JSS15R this weekend and there is no noticeable difference at all - Bluetooth symptoms are the same as noted in my original post.  Is anyone, anywhere having any luck using a Bluetooth keyboard and WiFi successfully on a second gen WiFI only Nexus 7?   If so I'd like to know what their configuration is. My WiFi router is a tried and true D-Link DIR-655.  Bluetooth and WiFi work well together on a resident Windows 7 box and MacBook Pro all using this same router.

I am also starting to think a new thread needs to be started since there has been no response since Paul's (Google's) request for specific info was tagged as "Best Answer".  This issue cripples Nexus' versatility not to mention the unit is sold as Bluetooth/WiFi capable with no stated limitations. IMHO this problem surely deserves some kind of response if not further escalation since many seem to have similar issues.

    Same problem as others.
    Very disappointing.
Nexus 7 2 hardware problem? Or android os problem?

I can confirm DannySG's report that the Anker Ultraslim BT keyboard does work. I picked one up from Amazon after reading DannySG's post, and it paired and works great with my 2013 Nexus 7 running JSS15R. Like everyone else here, I was not able to get either my Apple or Logitech to operate correctly with the same Nexus 7, even though both work fine with a PC and my iPhone. I'm not sure what's different about the Anker, but it works.

I'd rather have Google fix the problem, but for $20 it's not a bad stopgap

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time greg sab 9/25/13 7:04 PM
Gee that's good news about the Anker Ultraslim and wish I could return my Logitech.  The Perixx feedback was helpful too.  If nothing turns up in the way of a fix in the near future I may order an Anker too.  Maybe I can find a non-Google user to buy my Logitech. I think I'll also see if anyone over at Logitech has any ideas. Thanks for the replies.

    1. Nexus 7 (2013) 32gb wifi
    2. Microsoft Wedge Keyboard
    3. Repeating letters, bad connection. Only when wifi is on.

FWIW this keyboard works fine with my Nexus 4.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Benjamin Glasthal 9/28/13 8:38 AM
If he doesn't have any update to actually provide yet there is no need for him to post, is there? I doubt he was fired and then they just conveniently forgot a large thread about a fairly large issue with the device/OS. Its far more likely that they haven't found the source of the issue or a fix yet.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Pasi Haapakorva 9/29/13 2:06 AM
I got the N7 with a keyboard, so that I could do study related writing at the library. A good laptop would have been more expensive and I saw on Youtube that the keyboard I wanted works well on the N7. It turns out that it only works on the old one.

Now I've done some research on offline writing. Google Drive doesn't support it, but Quickoffice does, if I save a file locally and upload it back to cloud later, all manually.

What I'd like is an honest update about this matter from Google. Buying the N7 feels like bad choice now, since doing any serious work on it is much more difficult than it should. Will this be fixed soon or not? Should I be starting to look at other options?

It's been a month since Google last responded. And btw, the N7 only became available here in Finland 2 days ago, and most buyers still don't know this issue exists. Many potential buyers I've informed have postponed their N7 purchase due to their keyboards not working.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time thecapsaicinkid 9/29/13 6:22 AM
Apologies for spamming everyone but as far as I can see, this list is literally the only place I can vent my frustration with the tiniest chance of someone from Google actually taking note.

I am, or have been a massive fan of Google's products. I always buy Nexus, I use all their web apps and am pretty entrenched in the big G's ecosystem. Unfortunately I think that has to come to an end. I have lost a great deal of respect for Google over issues like this. I waited ages for the new Nexus 7, I very much enjoyed the original and was looking forward to the new device. My pre-ordered N7 2013 arrived and I thought it was fantastic, around the same time I bought a Sony bluetooth keyboard.

    Here's a picture of my 7, isn't it beautiful? Sure, but it is a complete LEMON. Any attempt to use the keyboard resultsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss in this. The keyboard works fine on my Nexus 4. Any attempt to use the touchscreen while it is sat on the stand also results in a similar level of annoyance thanks to this;

So let me just run that by you again. My Nexus 7 on its stand, I cannot type on the keyboarddddddd because of the bluetooth issue and I cannot type on the screen because of the touchscreen issue. It is literally a very pretty Asus branded PAPERWEIGHT.

Sure, problems happen, I can deal with that. What I cannot deal with is a company completely shunning their responsibility to keep owners in the loop. This isn't a free Google web service that has issues, it's a piece of hardware I, and many others have sat in front of them that they have paid money for (this is key) and cannot use. This is completely unacceptable. Yes, I realise the last thing Google want to do is admit there is a problem but.. there is a problem. There is no one to contact about this, no support here whatsoever. Paul's responses are nothing more than time wasters. This thread is a bunch of people with the same problem talking to themselves back and forth. I either have to return it (and possibly have to argue against just being sent a replacement which no doubt will have the same issues) or just sit and hope an OTA update fixes all my woes. Awful, awful experience.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time ehV8er 9/29/13 5:16 PM
This delay by Google to rectify this bug, let alone the communication vacuum with their customers, is beyond shameful. Every day that I am unable to use my Gen 1 N7 with my bluetooth keyboard it loses value and usability for me. And let me be clear, that they worked perfectly together pre-update. Either Google does not take this Android business seriously or they don't want to invest the developer time to correct a bug they deem not critical. Maybe both. In any event it has harmed my Google Android experience immensely. I am very disappointed.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Mi1ez 9/30/13 2:44 AM
Maybe it's time people vented this same frustration by spreading it on Facebook, Google+, blogs and everywhere you communicate with people online.. occasionally.  Don't just post it here where it goes quietly unnoticed by everyone else.  Let your friends know, let the public, the press and everyone know that they're not communicating back to us and they don't seem to be fixing the problem.  This is, as you said, unacceptable for something we paid money for.  I expected better from Google for a reference platform--that IS what the Nexus brand was intended for, wasn't it?

If someone posts to a blog or an article about their experience, please post a link to it here so that the rest of us can post up a link on Facebook/Google+/Twitter/etc. to keep reminding and warning everybody who's considering a Nexus device.  There's a LOT of excitement over Nexus 5 coming out--I'm not sure whether it deserves it but people should probably be warned about the problems of Nexus owners thus far.

I wish I could have thanked a Google representative for at LEAST communicating with us but I'll thank, in advance, anyone that helps get our frustrated word out to the public and to Google.

    same (stuttering Audio) Problem here

    Client: Nexus 2013
Host: Linux Bluez 4.101 PC Audio Sink (works fine with Windows Mobile 6.1 Device! And more or less fine with disabled WiFi on Nexus)
    WiFi @2.4GHz

when reading the bug reports it seems the problem exists for more than a half year now (android 4.2 also seems to have that problem)

So I had all sorts of problems with my Zagg Flex, but I am having zero issues with the Logitech K810. Has anyone else tried the K810?

    1. Nexus 7 (2013) 32gb LTE
    2. Logitech K810
    3. Pairing worked great. I see no timeout/disconnect issue. No repeating keys. I have tested with Wifi on and in use with no issues. Note this is a BT 3.0 compliant keyboard. I believe I saw mention to that would help in the thread earlier.

    > I can confirm DannySG's report that the Anker Ultraslim BT keyboard does work

I just bought this and can also confirm this keyboard works with my Nexus 7 2013. (microsoft keyboard and Oontz sound bar do not).

So it does appear (at least from the posts so far) that bt 2.1 devices do not work and so far bt 3 devices do.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Russell Horton 10/2/13 1:26 PM
    TL/DR Warning.

To all those using the Anker Ultraslim BT keyboard I am happy that you have found success and maybe as mrj_nh has pointed out this could be a BT2 issue since it appears at a glance that BT3 works. While I applaud and thank those for sharing that information it still is a really upsetting alternative.

As one of those people who owned both a 2012 Nexus 7 and the new 2013 Nexus 7 FHD I am a little upset that the keyboard I already have does not work. In the case of my Nexus 7 2012 it worked without issue with my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Apple Bluetooth Magic Mouse. I purchased the Nexus 2013 FHD I am almost certain that it listed Bluetooth 2.1 compatibility. While I won't say that having this functionality for me in the end of the world had I known about it going in I never would of purchased the product. I would of happily kept my 2012.

Whats even worse is the time for a refund for me has come and gone. I had great faith that Google would take care of this and I am a very patient person. I work in software development and understand that bugs don't always make it into the next release. I understand it takes time to isolate and fix them. I also understand then a completely separate group decides how critical it is and then determines what Rev to stick it in or if to do an emergency update I get and understand all of this. What is wrong is that this has been known for a long time and no one has really picked up on this I will be generous here MIGHT be an issue you run into with the new FHD. Why I hate this is since it does show its Bluetooth 2.1 computable someone buys this like myself gets it home doesn't work. Says I need this Google will fix it and months later its still not fixed. That person is SOL because he/she can no longer return it and they are stuck waiting for a fix. This is compounded by the fact that we aren't getting any feedback from Google.

I will say that I am certainly not impressed by the search giant and from what I have seen Apple has nothing to fear from them in the tablet market. I find it most unacceptable that at least someone has not said "Found it working on resolution." or something that just acknowledges the fact they are trying to resolve it. The last word we had was Paul and while I am grateful that someone came in and let us know they are looking at it but we are still months out with no resolution and no way to return our device.

I don't usually complain just to complain but I find it completely unacceptable to not let your user base know exactly what is going on. I am not asking for an update everyday or hell every week. I just want acknowledgement on how things are going. Also what do we do for those of us where this is a mission critical feature but can no longer return it? I am guessing the answer is Craigslist or eBay.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time cmsof 10/2/13 1:33 PM
I'm more likely to just cave in and get an iPad than a new keyboard for my Nexus 7. Given Google's lack of response, who's to say this or a similar issue won't crop up in the future?  My plan was to get a Nexus 5 when it comes out.  My current phone's screen was cracked last weekend and I was going to hold out for that.  But if I don't hear SOMETHING on this front, I'm going to have to radically alter that plan.  Though I'm not super excited about switching to Apple, at least I know their stuff actually works.

Same issue here. Nexus 7 32-GB, production date september 2013 (made in China).

Bluetooth keyboard goes bananas when I switch on WiFi 2.4 GHz. It works OK with WiFi 5 GHz.

I contemplate returning the device. The fault is highly noticeable and should never have made it past quality control.

I re-posted your Verge thread on Facebook and Google+   ...I'm sincerely heartbroken, disappointed and crestfallen with the customer treatment from ASUS and Google.  I've been considering getting a 10-inch tablet too, but after this, I don't think it'll be either an ASUS nor a Nexus anymore despite my good experiences with my Nexux Galaxy and 2012 Nexus 7.  I've learned that it's great while it's working--but if you have problems, Google and/or ASUS will do nothing for you--not even tell you what they're doing or if they even can do anything.

I'm starting to suspect Paul has been instructed not to answer us here anymore.

Here's what I want, Google, if you're even reading:

    1.  Acknowledge that there is still a  problem with the Nexus 7 2013 using 2.4Ghz WiFi and bluetooth at the same time.
    2.  Indicate to us whether this is something you can
    3.  Indicate to us whether you are WORKING on the fix.

Most of us are pretty patient, but I think leaving us hanging with no idea as to whether relief is EVER coming is really not great for us as customers.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Russell Horton 10/8/13 8:09 AM
With all the problems I have had with this Nexus 7 and some other unrelated issues with my Nexus 7 2012 my company no longer purchases Android devices. We just switched to all Apple. We recalled all our phones and reissued our techs and executive committee Apple devices.

I am hoping that Google fixes this on a personnel level simply because I am stuck with a device that doesn't work. I know we are just one company and I am just one person but 928 iPhones, 126 iPad minis, and 50 Surface Pro Tablets are small orders in the grand scheme of things but its still money they did not get. Also I know I said Apple but some service techs here have to have Surface.

Anyone at Google if you are reading this fix this. While its too late for my company as a consumer who is stuck with the Nexus 7 2013 I would really like to be able to use it with my mouse. Until then like everyone else I am just stuck waiting with no word on if there will ever be a resolution or if its even fixable.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Russell Horton 10/8/13 11:01 AM
Before I file a BBB complaint I would like some clarification on what's going on. If they are just busy and don't have the manpower time to check up on us I would rather wait. Then to file a BBB complaint just to find out ya we are fixing it. I might file a complaint if they say sorry its not working like that and we can't fix it. Then I would because they can't fix it and I am outside my return period plus had known this going in I never would of purchased it. I just won't file one because I am not getting an update. Seems a bit extreme to me.

I'm with you Russell, you're one of the few people being mildly sensible, I mean they are a major corporation, and I don't pretend to know what its like to be a big company or how their structure and all that works, nor how to code or what it could be to fix this problem. But either way, just because there aren't regular updates isn't really a good enough reason in my opinion to report them to the Better Business Bureau.

I'm not going to speak to any other issues that may exist with the tablet, and some of those may be things to file against ASUS, but this issue is one that doesn't break the device or make it unusable. You can still use bluetooth, you can still use wifi, just not at the same time. Is it an issue? Yes, but if that's your only problem and you have can't be bothered to use the on screen typing then why didn't you just buy a cheap netbook?
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Sebastienbo 10/8/13 11:20 AM
Actually its not only a problem of intererence between wifi and bluetooth.

I think it might all be related to bluetooth issues.

Other users(including myself) are complaining about some devices not beeing able to pair up with the new nexus 7, whereas my old nexus 7 had not problem with this same mouse.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Tuurke 10/8/13 11:56 AM
IMHO if the Nexus 7's wifi really causes debilitating radio interference to its own bluetooth module then the device is probably not conforming to FCC and/or EC regulations. In that case they may need tot recall the whole lot...
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time thecapsaicinkid 10/8/13 12:26 PM
I definitely think it is an issue of interferance as the issue isn't apparent on 5ghz wifi. I also think people are going to be disappointed if they think this is ever going to get resolved. The only options are changing your hardware. I don't see them admitting it'll never work either, nor can I see a hardware recall.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Daniel_S. 10/8/13 3:26 PM

Well, the worst part of this is the silence. Honestly one gets the feeling that a fair amount of this is lack of Asus quality control and since they don't make much on these things they would prefer us to just go away.

Imagine Asus' liabilities from a class-action lawsuit if this turned out to be the case - knowingly distributing and selling devices with abnormally high defect rates if not outright design flaws in multiple components and sub-assemblies.

If I get the SAME problems from three devices manufactured and purchased weeks apart from different stores, what is the likelihood of this being purely bad luck? Extremely slim when the industry's average defect rate is usually less than 5%... so the chances of getting three similarly defective devices in a row should be 0.05^3 or 0.0125%. Right now, I am at 100%, 800X higher on the probability scale than I should be... and some people who didn't give up on their 2nd or 3rd try are on their 5th or 6th device yet still have problems.

    This is ridiculous.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time cmsof 10/8/13 3:30 PM
I don't think it's an Asus design flaw.  The same thing is happening to me on my first gen Nexus 7.  Bluetooth keyboard worked great up until the 4.3 update.  It stopped working immediately after that was installed.  Not too hard to put 2 and 2 together here.

But I agree.  The silence is not good.  It's been a couple of months now.  A status update would be nice, even if it was just a 'Still working on a solution."

I am having the same issues with a bluetooth keyboard, both repeating keys fast forward or deleting a big chunk of text when trying to delete the repeated character. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

If it is of any help, I had the exact same issue on Nexus 10 when connected to both a BT keyboard and a mouse. Just keyboard worked, however, and here it sounds that Nexus 7 is having trouble with even that.

I've noticed that many Android releases seem to have brought Bluetooth regressions, so it might be an issue with inadequate testing at Google.

Also if you do an activity search for Paul you will see that he is around, but has stated elsewhere that he has been traveling and will be for the next 1.5 weeks, so we should expect slow response while he AFKB.

So with all of that said I am going to wait here for them to get back to us just like they did with the GPS fix once the pinned it down.

    I am using a Nexus 7 2013, build JSS15R, running 4.3.
Paired with a Logitech 920-003390 Tablet Keyboard for Android.
Typing with wifi on, I get repeating keys, repeating deletes in text fields.
Typing in a URL field in Chrome is impossible. It just keeps flashing as though opening a new tab.

I would attempt it with wifi off, but I don't see the point. There is almost no circumstance under which that would be useful to me.

Whendo you think the Bluetooth keyboard problem will fix? It is really give me serious problem when i use it at work. I am seriously thinking drop Nexus and back to iPad.

Look forward to your feedback asap.

    Same problem here

    JSS15R Nexus 7 FHD

    Bluetooth Headset:
    model: R505
    brand: roman www.roman001.com

When I use skype or CSipSimple with bluetooth and wifi, the wifi just drops when the call is being initiated.
There is no problem in using Youtube or other online music services.
So the problem limits to the situation that the headset is sending sound to the Nexus 7, but not the Nexus 7 sending sound to the bluetooth headset.

Keyboard issue is the same, it has repeating characters input when you download or upload big chunks of files. That is same symptom of having data from a BT device TO the N7 FHD.

Both the headset and keyboard has been tested on Droid 4 and Samsung Laptop, all no problem.

Let me guess.  Google remains dead silent on this, not even confirming their is a problem.

I think Google has abandoned us as Nexus 7 users.  Seems kinda crappy to alienate your most rabid, loyal users by letting them eat silence on something like this.

Oh, well, to anyone who asks, just say "Nexus 7 - great tablet, inoperable bluetooth" and leave it there.

    Unbelievable.

I am having problems with an Apple Wireless Keyboard and the Nexus 7.  I've tried two different keyboards and both have the same issue with repeating strings of letters - such as 50 e's in a row.
However a Verbatim foldup wireless keyboard (circa 2010) doesn't seem to have any of these problems.

I can also confirm that the Anker Ultra-Slim (4mm) BT keyboard WORKS with my Nexus 7 2013. I returned my Logitech keyboard and got the Anker, even got a $10 refund (the 4mm model is $30, but you can get the standard Ultra-Slim for $20 on Amazon).

BT Mouse and very active wifi (flash w/Puffin) makes mouse unusable.
Switching to LTE shows the combination can work OK.

Hi Paul, just got my Nexus7 2nd gen. It wanted to update to 4.3 immediately.
    Build jss15r.
My problem is with Bluetooth stereo headset, (LG HBS-730). While WiFi on, intermittent stoppages in audio & video with audio popping. If I use tablet with wired headset there are no problems.
Likewise I can use BT headset without issue if WiFi is off.
Likely conclusion, Nexus3 gen2 with android 4.3 installed cannot run Bluetooth & WiFi simultaneously.
Please let us know when we might expect a fix, as otherwise I will be forced to return within 15 day return policy
    Thanks, George

    all with repeating keys.

Paul, where did Google go? I'm really bummed that Google hasn't at least pinged this issue for six weeks. I was really excited to pick up my new Nexus 7. I have a Nexus 4. I'm a Google device fan! I've recommended it to friends who then bought one.

I feel with this issue Google let me down. I was so disappointed to get my shiny Nexus 7 home and have the pairing with my Apple bluetooth keyboard act so badly. Reading through this thread was like a sucker punch on top of that -- tons of people having problems for months, and Google dropping out of the conversation after having gathered a ton of data about the problem.

Without any communication from Google, it seems right to respond as follows:
    • Return my Nexus 7 to Best Buy.
    • I'm a software developer recommending a device for a business to purchase for each of their personnel. I had heartily recommended the Nexus 7, but having discovered this issue I've sent an email to the project manager changing that recommendation and citing this forum thread.
    • Tweet it out to warn my friends: https://twitter.com/pettys/status/391967261851807744

Would love to be able to re-recommend and tweet out props, but you gotta help us, your fans and customers, and tell us what's going on. Is this device fundamentally flawed or is there hope for a software fix? Your silence implies the former.

    Sincerely,
    Jason

Good People, if Google was really making money off the Nexus 7, they would have long fixed the issue. By not responding to the issue, they are just giving us to understand that the Nexus 7 is a non-issue for them. Who knows what their strategic thinking was when they first created the model. The only assertion we can make is that everything we state here is just speculation and ventilation of our frustration to our fellow victims.

Took unit,(Nexus7 2013) back for LTE model on 4.3.1, same problem with the addition that the Bluetooth issue is not limited to WiFi. Bluetooth has issues when using LTE data transfer also. Maybe 4.4 will address this issue.
I'm hoping the reason we're not hearing any more from Google is that they have discovered that this is a hardware issue!!

As an FYI, I was able to succesfully pair and use a Belkin Case & Keyboard Combo (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/belkin-keyboard-case-for-most-7-34-tablets-black/7390124.p?id=1218843562810&skuId=7390124) with my Nexus 7 2nd Gen. There were some issues with key lag, although I'm not sure if it was related to this bluetooth problem, or to the app I was using (Kingsoft Office).

No luck with getting the Perixx 805L keyboard to work properly, even using the External Keyboard App.

Has anyone found a foldable keyboard that works with the Nexus 7/ Android 4.3 yet?

Google has been "looking into it" for quite some time now since the 2012 model. This would be the end all tablet if only if it weren't for these few wireless problems. Originally, I was trying to use GroveIP with my bluetooth headsets, about 5 different sets. All I'd ever get was bad signal noise. The excuse from Google then was that the Nexus 7 wasn't meant to work like a phone. Ugghhhhhh!
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time rb2001 10/23/13 4:38 AM
I would if my experience were related to the hardware.  I began experiencing this after the Jellybean upgrade (4.3).  I have read others having it with post 4.2 updates.  I resolved my issue by back revving to 4.1 (4.1.2  Kernel ver: 3.1.10-g009b6d1  Build num: JZ054k).  I used WUG Fresh's Nexus Root Toolkit to do this. I don't think the Nexus 7 was ever released with Android versions earlier than 4.2.  I just know that others had extolled 4.1 version for its stability.

So far it has returned not only my Bluetooth, but the speed of my  tablet response is also returned to the early stages of our romance when it didn't matter where we went or what we did, so long as I could touch her.  So it really seems like an OS issue, not a  hardware issue.

    Android 4.1.2 build JZ054K

Hey, I have the same problem, although I've just used some Bluetooth keyboards on a store.

    Device: Nexus 7 FHD Flo
ROM: PAC-man ROM 4.3.1 (latest nightly), ElementalX 1.8 Kernel
Problem: Intermittent connection when a Bluetooth Keyboard is connected.

Funny that using my car Bluetooth OBDII Scanner does not render this problem, and it has a constant data flow (at a VERY fast rate, like showing in realtime the engine RPM, with 4 digits. In fact, it's faster than the analog needle) to the tablet. Using the Tablet Talk app (that keeps phone SMS in sync with the Tablet) also works fine.
Also, when I connect the keyboard, Tablet Talk keeps connecting and disconnecting, just like the keyboard.

I've tested with a Logitech keyboard (don't know the exact model, looks like this one, but white http://www.edresources.com/assets/img/accesories/LearnPad-Logitech-Bluetooth-Keyboard.png) and a chinese Apple-like knock-off (with rough edges)
The chinese knock-off worked better than the Logitech model, and I assumed their battery were depleted/old (till finding those ten of thousands posts regarding to Bluetooth connection issues).
A Chinese case with a USB keyboard didn't have this problem, worked flawlessly. Sadly, it's too thick and looks bad, but works (http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/6808/c93k.jpg)
I've tested my Bluetooth headset with skype and it works alright. WiFi on all the time. I've tried Skype with headset and Tablet Talk with a phone call (it pops up a control screen that syncs with the phone using bluetooth), and it worked. So you've got two simultaneous devices working flawlessly. I wonder why the keyboard can't work this well?
I'm able to transfer files through Bluetooth with Tablet Talk without losing sync (NFC pairing is amazing, btw)

I, sometimes, have a hard time while fast typing and when swiping to unlock through my 5x5 pattern lock, which is the same size as my phone's and I've never had a issue there (At least sober..). Might be the touchscreen issue.
(Just tested with YAMTT, and it works fine! Might have been a punctual or lack of habit with this tablet size. Thank God! *knocks on the wood*)

    ---
btw, I still don't want to disconsider that the intermittent connection was due to a depleted battery. If I ever find someone with a Bluetooth keyboard, I'll test with it.

Fun fact: When I mention "sync with Tablet Talk" and "file transfer between devices", it's between the N7 and a i9300 S3 (which is another model plagued with bluetooth problems). Both work fine! *knocks on the wood*

Come on Google, now tell us if this is a software or hardware issue.

If it's the software we know you'll fix it. I bet most of us can wait a bit more (should be fixed in 4.4, right?), and sending the device back for a replacement unit would be of no use.

But if it's a hardware issue, then there's no point in waiting, and I'd request a replacement immediately.

So, how about you telling us what's going on?

I'm writing this from a 2013 N7 32gb wifi with a Rapoo E6100 keyboard and everything seems to work perfectly. I have wifi on, and experience no issues. Same keyboard also works fine on another, identical N7. The keyboard is slightly larger than my MS Wedge, and the build quality is lower, but at least I can type!

So to recap: Rapoo E6100 works OK on my 2013 N7 32gb wifi and on my father's identical N7.

I am also having issues with a bluetooth mouse, Microsoft Sculpt Touch mouse, same stuttering and freezing, and lag. And oddly enough, the external keyboard icon shows up in the notification tray, and the onscreen keyboard doesn't come up when I click on input boxes. It seems to think that I have a bluetooth keyboard connected to it, instead of a mouse. Very wrong!!!

    Hi Paul,

    Nexus 7 2013 4.3
    WIFI: On (2.4Ghz)
KB: mBeat Mini BT Keyboard (Works with 0 issues)
Mouse: Rapoo 6080 (Brought today and yes its not 100% responsive, after you click on something, it freezes for 2 seconds and then responsive again)

Why i know it's the Nexus and not the devices themselves,

Used the same KB and Mouse on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 4.3 (connected both keyboard and mouse with WIFI and Bluetooth on, zero problems)

Possibly a driver issue on the nexus 7 2013 causing the problem..

Hopefully the fix is resolved soon on Kitkit 4.4!

Just installed the recently released 4.4 KRT16O to my Nexus 7 2013 Wifi 16gb.

Can happily say that Bluetooth works now...!  At least for my Apple WIreless keyboard up to a usable state.

Now.. it's not perfect, there is some lag at times between when you type and when the text shows up, especially in situations where there both wifi/bluetooth are trying to operate at the same moment.  If you open up an SSH/Telnet shell and try typing with a bluetooth keyboard, it will stutter along... no pause is longer than a second or two though.   I also haven't been able to make it miss text or repeat, all text shows up, though sometimes with some delay.     With "regular" email and website browsing, you don't often run into the delay/pause from what I can tell.. but it's more noticeable than on other devices.

All in all...  can finally use my bluetooth keyboard and wifi at the same time and not be pulling my hair out!
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Photonater 11/13/13 9:04 AM
I believe you might be right in that this is an antenna problem. My home network has a duel band 2.4 & 5 Ghz Wi-Fi router.
I have my N7 (2013) connected to my router via 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi (because it has the best signal). My Bluetooth keyboard and Moga Pro connects just fine. However, my Bluetooth mouse is extremely laggy. Interestingly enough, I changed my N7 to connect via 5Ghz and now there is no lag. Coincidence? I think not.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time rmagruder 11/13/13 9:17 AM
I'll confirm what's been said here about 4.4.  I applied the OTA to my Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi and my Logitech Tablet keyboard now will pair and work with it.

I will say that the pairing was dicey.  When I first paired, the keyboard accepted the code, and Android put away it's pairing dialog, but the pairing light kept flashing on the keyboard.  It took a few tries.  Once it finally paired and the bluetooth light solidified, the keyboard worked flawlessly.  I was even able to type into the chrome address bar without lag or repeated characters, while a 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi connection hummed along.

It looks like Google finally fixed some of these bluetooth headaches in 4.4.

    Cheers,
    Randy

    Hi everyone,

As you've already heard, Android 4.4 (KitKat) has started rolling out to the Nexus 7. I'm happy to hear that some of you who have it already have noticed Bluetooth improvements, and I'm looking back to hearing more of your feedback.

The next logical question from all of you is "when will my tablet get 4.4?" :-)  Please see this help center article for information about the KitKat rollout timing.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time btitus 11/13/13 9:54 AM
No, the next logical question from us is "did Google specifically address this issue in 4.4, and can you tell us what we should expect to experience with 4.4, Bluetooth, and WiFi."
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time rchr 11/13/13 1:33 PM
and another logical question seems to me to be, why is google playing this game with us?

if there is indeed a fix in kitkat, then it was obviously conceived, planned, and eventually implemented, so why was this not communicated to us here and elsewhere? you know, something like, "we're aware of the problem, apologize, and are working on a fix and request your patience".

instead, we've been mostly ignored and left in the dark.
after months of this i decided that i should probably sell my n7, and only didn't because i couldn't in good conscience do so without revealing its flawed condition.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time inherendo 11/13/13 9:03 PM
Still having same problems. Bluetooth unusable concurrently with wifi on 2.4 ghz band. Nothing fixed in regards to that. It actually feels worse in that even trying to sync the bluetooth device to it has become more difficult. Thumbs down. Bought this in August and bug still has not been fixed. Read that bluetooth issues have plagued google for nearly a year. Keyboard has been gathering dust, will probably give to sister to use with her ipad mini, which it works perfectly fine with.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time inherendo 11/13/13 9:07 PM
Switching to the 5.0 ghz band is a known workaround. Bluetooth and most wireless routers broadcast at 2.4 ghz, which is what many, if not most, people have.

    3. Download latest Android SDK adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030 - Extract This into a folder - I created one in C:\Android\ - Then copy the 3 following file/folder "Eclipse/sdk/SDK Manager" in C:\Android\

    4. Open Android SDK Manager, we want to download the Google USB driver

(Located at Android SDK Manager > Extras > Google USB Driver - check this box then click install packages)

    5. Now enable USB Debugging Mode via: About Tablet > Build Number (Tap this 9 times to enable developer mode option)

    6. Once Developer Mode is available, go into it and look for USB Debugging Mode, enable it!

    6. Now plug in your tablet and go into Device Manager, you'll notice under Other Devices, there's a Nexus 7 (You'll see that the drivers are not installed ) Right click select Update Drivers, then browse to c:\Android\sdk\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.ini

Note: Look for android_winusb.ini, this is the file (don't look under amd64 or i386)

Note II: Once installed, you'll see Android Composite ADB Interface

    7. Now go into C:\Android\SDK\platform-tool (This is where ADB.exe executeable is located)

    8. Command Prompt (Start > Type:CMD > Hold Shift > Right Click on CMD and Select Run as Administrator):

    9. c:\Android\SDK\platform-tool\adb devices

Note: You will see something like

    List of devices attached

    9. Place KRT160 from JSS15R.zip file in platform-tools folder, where the adb executable is)

    10. adb reboot bootloader > Use Volume Up or Down and browse to RECOVERY and press Power to Select

    11. When you see a green android and a red exclaimation mark, don't panic, press up and power together... a menu will pop up.. select apply update from ADB

    Another test point:

    After sending back the Nexus 7 2013 ,  I ordered a Nexus 5.

I installed Puffin and paired a MacBluetooth Mouse and  ....  tried reading the Oregonian online and ...

It works!   No jumpy unusable mouse issues.    Differences between 7 and 5 ?   Kitkat AND hardware

So this begs the question:      Is the Bluetooth / Wifi problem a solved by ASUS to LG switch I.E. the Wifi/Bluetooth module

OR the upgrade to KitKat???    SIGH!

Any news yet? I was just looking into getting a keyboard and mouse for my Nexus 7 2013, and came across this.

Hi, I just update to KitKat, after that I test my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and it seems to work. I think wifi connection was slow during using bluetooth but it was at least usable. So I am satisfied with this fix but it need more testing, I wrote only 10 lines  for test. I will see during real using. But slimport to hdmi still doesn't work.

    Paul,

Updated my Nexus 7 2013 (wifi) to 4.4 this evening.

Previously with 4.3 - keyboard would pair and connect, but act erratically with repeated characters, high latency & random disconnects.
Now with 4.4 - "Can't communicate with FILCO Bluetooth Keyboard". It's now even worse than it was with 4.3

For what it's worth, keyboard is http://www.diatec.co.jp/en/det.php?prod_c=1470.

I'd be grateful for any information. Right now this is pretty disappointing for a Google tablet device. The keyboard works with everything else, notably the iPad.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time josephyoung 11/16/13 12:11 PM
I've been waiting for 4.4 ota.
But, apparently, many people (XDA, and many other android sites) still have the same problem even after updating to 4.4.
Paul, did you really report this issue to R&D? And are you sure that Google addressed this issue and fixed it in 4.4?
The 4.3 bluetooth problem is a really well-known issue which disappoints so many people.
Have you read the column from EE times which is a popular magazine in electronic engineering business?
The column also points out the bluetooth keyboard problem.
I'm really surprised  that Google hasn't done any effort to address this issue for 3-4 months.
If the problem still persists even in 4,4, it will change my perspective to Google.

Hmmm...wish I had known this earlier, I just got the Nexus 7 2013 (Asus) and the Bear Motion case, all of which arrived yesterday and even though it shows it is paired, absolutely nothing happens , have repaired and rebooted several times.  Sounds like the only fix at this time is sending it back.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Henry Ma 11/16/13 8:28 PM
I'm still trying to pinpoint what's causing it, BT mouse sometimes works fine...even with WiFi off.. Its like its a hit and miss thing.. Sometimes during the day it's fine.. Later at night its jumpy like hell.. Check CPU freq its running at 1ghz so that ain't lagging.. 😢

So, I just upgraded to Android 4.4 this morning and it appears to have fixed my bluetooth keyboard issues.  I am currently typing with my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and it seems to work properly.

I am still looking for a Bluetooth Mouse that works propertly, however.  Mine still skips quite a bit.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Joe F2 11/17/13 11:22 AM
Thanks!   I think  you just answered my question about the bluetooth mouse:   Hardware or Software
I switched hardware by sending back a Nexus 7 2013 and getting a Nexus 5 (ASUS vs LG)
and I now haven't a problem with using a BT Mouse with an active Wifi.

I thought it might be the switch to KitKat and have been waiting for reports of OTA users of the Nexus 7 2013.

So the answer is that  it's a difference in hardware not whether it's KitKat or not.
SIGH!   I wanted so much to trade in my current Nexus 7 for the new 2013 one
    and get data plan capability!
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Henry Ma 11/20/13 7:39 AM

Hi Paul, i was happy after update to 4.4 that it already works. But my slimport still didn't so i tried to restore system to factory settings. After that my slimport still didnt work and now i cant pair mouse with tablet. Keyboard still work but my mouse did not. When will googlw finally solve this issue ? I work like programmer and if our software had so important bugs and we didnt do any fix, customers will find another company. So Google is happy to loose customers or what ?
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Benjamin Glasthal 11/20/13 11:16 AM
@Tomáš Filo: Gotta say, that sounds like a hardware issue if the slimport isn't working after the software update generally fixed it
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Tomáš Filo 11/20/13 11:17 AM
If you are not competent to handle this issue, let us contact your supervisor to discuss this bug with them.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Tomáš Filo 11/20/13 11:54 AM
Benjamin Glasthal: before with 4.3 sometimes i get 10 minutes of video on slimport and after that it lost signal or stays black. With kitkat i get in bes t case only 2-3 seconds. So it could be hardware but it looks like software have influence on this issue too. If they did not solve it in few months i will ask for replacement and after that if issue stays for money.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time rchr 11/20/13 12:37 PM
i gave up and got this:

i don't have a keyboard or mouse but it solves the issue with my speakers and headphones.

so ridiculous to have to resort to this for a brand new whizbang tablet that is touted as the best running android, but my initial hassle with asus repair and support, and the apparent disinterest google has evidenced in solving this or even communicating clearly about it, has just worn me down. hell with it.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time David Cappelucci 11/21/13 2:43 PM
    Alright,

Well I'm currently around the Dayton area of Ohio and have just received the 4.4 update.  As of now and the past 10 min or o of typing around with my Logitech Android 3.0+ keyboard I am seeing drastically improved functionality... As in I can finally use it!  The keyboard functions as I had anticipated when I had originally purchased it with the tablet,  needless to say, as long as this keeps up I will be content.

I will finally be able to have full functionality of the tablet as I take it to class to take notes or use it for other aspects of my life.

As of now I am only on a 2.4GHz network signal but I never had a problem with the 5GHz signal anyway.  Pairing the keyboard with the Nexus 7 (2013) was not an issue whatsoever and the keyboard is now working flawlessly.  I'm not experiencing any lag,  no strange key jabber or repeating keys.

Lastly,  I need to get my plugs in where I can. I do hope Google will review this thread and the many like it and I ask that they improve As A MINUMUM in the arena of feedback to customers while they are troubleshooting a problem.  How were we to know whether or not you were even trying to fix it.. Would the 2 minutes spent to at least let us know you were working on some sort of fix been too much? While I'm happy to have the full functionality that I paid for,  I'm still rather dissatisfied in the service.

I've typed this whole reply with the keyboard.  No problem.  Will update if any malfunctioning happens,  if you hear nothing back,  assume the problem is fixed for Me.

    Cheers

Agreed.  The update fixed the link with my Perixx Periboard 850 L.  However, internet must be in 2.4 GHz, not 5.  My router has both, so no problem, but this seems a bit odd that it was not sorted out before the Nexus was released.  Please do better next time Google.

Hi, in my case, it is mostly FAIL...

    Wifi ON
+ Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810
+ Logitech Bluetooth Ultrathin Mouse T630

    Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (4.1.2) - FAIL
    Nexus 7 (4.3 and 4.4) - FAIL
Sony Xperia Z (4.2.2) - NO PROBLEM! (surprising)

This is to be said, I always loved the Nexus 7 tablet.
3D wallpapers, Google Linux based OS, personalized user accounts, what's not to love?
    $350 on a Nexus 7 - 32 GB

I realized that I just excuse for bad behavior.... But no more.

First the camera is cheap and the "No flash" makes it useless after dark.
My daughter (14 years old) simply abandoned it; nice Birthday present dad, but no thanks after a year of use.
Picture quality and constant app updates got her frustrated.

So I decided to recycle it for better use. My girlfriend :-)
How do you change the tablet owner from one user to an other?

I have a Motorola Bluetooth Headphone SD 10, HDX, nice equipment, and got it to pair on iPhone and iPad in just 2 clicks.
Once of those Bluetooth headsets you pair up when jogging and listening with high quality audio.
I loaded up a whole bunch of MP3, then time for pairing.  In Nexus 7, I just couldn't     Ahhhhhh...
I was going on a walk , to showcase the Nexus; "new toy" for Xmas, and it made me look like a fool.

Google doesn't have to make its tablet accessible for the common DUH? !! ,
but Google should learn to make it compatible to the most devices out there.
(Should have built the drivers instead of waiting for the desperate opens source community)

Interestingly enough, the Nexus Tablet wanted to pair up with my iPhone :-)
To be a market leader, Google shouldn't wait to capitalize on open source but rather spend the investment money to make its products
accessible on any devices, anytime, anywhere.

The Nexus Tablet is not to be recommended, and Android is not an operating system to be proud of.
After 15 years in the software engineering business, I think we have much better options out there in Gnome or KDE.
Microsoft Surface windows 8 Metro is actually better. (Ugh, I can't believe I'm saying this)

    Don't get scroogled.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Gabriel Moraes 12/2/13 8:44 PM
This is truly saddening, if you are indeed a Software Engineer. You oughta know that as an Linux based "distro", Android has a fully featured file system with file trees, which makes it amazing for... anything regarding to a mobile workplace. Organize files and folders in a blink is too easy with Android. Don't remember those features on iOS/WPx =)
Also, Android is Open Source, and as it might void you warranty, there are many, many, MANY, THAT MANY mods out there that makes it WAY better than its original state. Which you might know, as you're a Software Engineer.

Did you really own a Nexus 7 with the latest Android? it even has MULTIPLE USERS support, and you don't know how to change ownership? I've did it here just for the kicks, deleted my Google account, added another and bam. As a Software Engineer, you might have overlooked that.

I don't know about not working headsets, as I only use one simple Samsung bluetooth mono headset for Skype calls and I have say it works flawlessly. Don't know about stereo bluetooth headsets, but it does pair with my car's JVC AVX33 and works nice for music listening. The Fraunhofer virtual surround sounds amazing btw, and with some (as I previously said) mods, such as ViPER4Android, I'm able to get a better sound environment. It's just fantastic.
I've had SERIOUS issues with Bluetooth keyboards, but they're fixed with 4.4. I'd wish to have a really really slim keyboard to carry around and work with it, but can't find any cheap and easy to type one =(

About the camera. PLEASE don't be "THAT GUY" or teach your children to use Tablets as cameras. Tablets actually have rear cameras for.. I don't know, maybe it's useful when it's the only camera available? That ain't no 60 tera pixel / 130mb single-photo shooter bulky nokia phone (that, actually, it's the only useful feature on that thing. I'd even get an iPhone rather than a WP). The most renowed tablets out there doesn't feature good rear cameras because that's not what they're meant for. And about cameras, you know pure Android has 360 photo taking feature, right? With the right camera (or good light, if you really want to be THAT GUY with a Tablet) you can make pretty nice 360º photos. Sounds dull, but I've used it way too much to record the progress of the building of my living room and kitchen and for capturing that amazing view up the hill. I'd only imagine that with an Oculus Rift. It might be pants watering nice.
You're the first person I've ever heard that complained about constant app updates. No, really, who hates free stuff? You can disable it anyway, but as a Software Engineer, you might know that already

I really really REALLY hope you're talking about fully fledged Core i5 Windows 8 tablets (which are heavier, bulkier and doesn't have the 2~3 days battery life of a Nexus 7), and not the RT thing. You're a Software Engineer after all, you might know better.

Don't fall for Microsoft ads, They say "don't get scroogled", but it's because they're losing on the game they made. A company doesn't go out there warning users about other companies ;)
    Don't limit yourself to tiles.

    Anyway, back on topic.
As I previously mentioned, bluetooth keyboards are working now! Typed nicely on the store a 25 line text and it worked flawlessly. Although it took a while, good job on the fix, team.

I had Nexus 7 2012 w/ Wifi and Galaxy Note 8.0 and now the Nexus 7 2013 with LTE. OS range from ICS to Jelly Bean. The bluetooth mouse / keyboard combo ALWAYS cause problems:

1). Mouse lagging for no reason. It works fine, then BAM.. lag. Moving across the season stutter so much I can't click anything.
2). Keyboard typing sometimes just lag

I don't use custom ROM, I only root. Heck, even when the tablets are NOT rooted, the problem persist. I have search high and low, going to XDA forums and Goggling for the solution..and the answer is:

The problem EXIST but Google never attempt to fix it. It's such a shame, because the functionality of using a keyboard AND a mouse on an Android tablet is a HUGE advantage compared to iPad.

    Same type of issues.

Since KitKat install, whenever I connect to WiFi, it disconnects my BT.  The BT button is NOT in the "off" position.  It is ON.  But the button greys out and I have to hard restart, shut off wifi, then reconnect the BT.
If I connect at any time to the WiFi... BT is GONE.

Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Rykel 12/21/13 8:37 AM
Hi all, it is almost THREE (3) years  and the problem still exists here on 22 December 2013.

I have observed that on my Nexus 7 (Android 4.3, 4.4. and 4.4.1), Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (Android 4.1.2), I can only use Wifi+Bluetooth Keyboard OR Mouse only, or NO Wifi+both BT Keyboard and Mouse. Even on a ASUS 1215B (AMD Radeon) Windows 8.1 laptop, I faced this issue randomly.

However, I do NOT have this situation at all (that is, Wifi + BT KB  +BT Mouse) on Sony Xperia Z (Android 4.2.2) so the solution may not lie in the Android/Windows version, although I am sure these play a part too.

What is different on my devices is that the Xperia Z is Bluetooth 4.0.

This may be the core problem, that older Bluetooth versions cannot support both BT Keyboard and Mouse at the same time without being affected by the Wifi. Somebody please confirm... and if true, advise if software alone may resolve this matter. If not, then it is time to dump all our devices and go for Bluetooth 4.0+ devices!

My nexus 7 (2013) has been updated to Android 4.4.2, but, the issue has still occurred.
Wi-Fi is often disconnected during using bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

My purpose is to use the nexus 7 as remote desktop terminal.
The remote desktop is disconnected from host PC more frequency when I use bluetooth keyboard, mouse and Wi-Fi.
I have three bluetooth keyboards and one bluetooth mouse.
Wi-Fi often disconnects during to use any of bluetooth peripheral.

It fails for me, too.  Galaxy Nexus phone.  Android 4.3.

It pairs just fine (including entering the 6 digit code on the Zagg bluetooth keyboard).  But even after it's paired, no amount of typing on the bluetooth keyboard shows up on any app on the phone.

I have not yet tried the External Keyboard Helper app.

edit: Just tried the External Keyboard Helper app.  That did not help for me.  I installed the app, allowed it to be an input device, and selected it as the input device after pairing with the Zagg keyboard.  Same issues - no text shows on any app on the phone when using the bluetooth keyboard.

    edit #2:  see bugs here:

Waiting for an update for the Galaxy Nexus, I guess.

Despite an "improved" experience with using Bluetooth and Wifi at the same time on my Nexus 7 (2013), it still experiences many occasions of repetitive keys and problems with bluetooth audio whenever the wifi radio is turned on (even when not connected to a wifi router).  While I can usually get by, the problems that occurr now whenever it DOES happen can only seem to be remedied most of the time by rebooting the entire tablet.  This isn't very good and I feel as if I'm almost back to the original problem--just less often.
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Pyrazol 1/11/14 5:59 AM
I can also confirm that repeated keys still occur. Frankly it feels like the bugfix was some kind of software workaround for a hardware issue.

Anyways, I wouldn't exactly call it "often", also because it usually just occurs once and then goes away again (for me at least). At least once a day though. A final fix for this would definitely be appreciated.

i had this problem. after some frustration, I decided to try 'repairing' my keyboard. Problem was resolved as soon as I entered the keys.

    Hi Paul,
I see you posted this reply in August.  It is now February, any word?  I am a loyal Google consumer and have been for a long time.  I would really appreciate a fix for this.  My nexus 10 doesn't work with my Zagg Universal Keyboard.  I rely very heavily on both.  The keyboard is new because I wore out a couple of cheap ones that paired very well with the N10.  The Zagg was an upgrade for me.  This is very frustrating.

I currently own the Nexus 7RHD running jelly bean (not kitkat) and have had ZERO issues connecting to my bluetooth stereo headphones AND mono ear piece for music. I even walked all of the way to the living room from my room which is an easy 35-40 feet with no issues what-so-ever. BUT I am however having issues 'operating' my ADESSO Bluetooth keyboard. I say operating because it connects just fine, shows that the recognize one another, but as soon as I press any of the keys...nothing. Tried typing in the browser, hitting Fn+F1 (Home) and still nothing. I'm not sure of it's the version of Android for this specific tablet or what, but that seems to be the only issue. Maybe it's even the keyboard itself. Maybe ADESSO doesn't support this version of Android. IDK! I have heard other people that have had worse issues with just KitKat alone, that's why I haven't accepted the update yet.. waiting for most of the bug fixes to update the...update. I digress. I would just like to know if theirs going to be any sort of Bluetooth update for wireless keyboards or something in the near future. Otherwise, this tablet is friggin amazing!! Critics say that the ASUS Nexus 7FDH is the best 7 inch tablet on the market right now for the price.    Just had to throw out a little credit there.

Such a shame.  It's now over 4 months since I returned my Nexus 7 LTE 2013 for a full refund because of this and see that this problem is not addressed.   I returned to using my Nexus 7 2012 with bluetooth and wifi every day with NO problems.   I'll bet they changed the wifi/bt hardware in the 2013 and that it's too expensive to recall and fix.  SIGH.    I am on the verge of buying an ApplePad Mini now.  :-(

Sorry to be adding to the questions here, but I have the Bluetooth wireless keyboard but it doesn't seem to have the '@' symbol. Is there a key combination I'm not seeing?
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Kenneth Ketchum 4/23/14 6:36 AM
It's not just with Nexus, this issue has been a problem since people decided to try to use bluetooth keyboards with android devices, any and all, since droids inception.  I have been watching this issue and the supposed reasons since 2007.  I currently have the problem with a Samsung devices on Droid 2.6*7 - 4.2/4.3 and a Pantech tablet on both 3/4.* Droid versions.  Bluetooth profiles are different, and the it happens in any and all relative wifi/btooth settings.  The only diff. is that some configs/settings cause it to happen less/more often as well as moderate to severe.  It never happens with wired otg.  So it's a resource conflict that Droid does not resolve within itself.  Some people either do not experience it enough, or they just happen to have gotten devices/peripherals that vary slightly as far as data input/output is rendered and it does not cause such havoc as it does with us.

I just got a nexus 7 2013 and i purchased a auto fit zagg keyboard.

I have set the wifi frequency to 5ghz and it seems to have fixed the issue. Are there any disadvantages to leaving in this setting?

I hope Google does release an update for this (this entire message was typed with the keyboard)  I really love the keyboard and the nexus 7 (2013) I don't want to return either item.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Kenneth Ketchum 5/28/14 2:39 AM
There isnt any =danger= in using 5ghz, except that it wont travel as far as say, 2.4..  BUT on the bright side, you shouldnt have a lot of external interference from =usual= devices around the home/hood that usually are usually on a diff freq/signal....  Zagg stuff is awesomely cool looking and coupled with a Nexus 7, its gotta be an awesome little rig!!!  Just keep at it, and if u run into spits, sputters and stutters you will have to find another work around.  Its so strange they sell a myriad of stuff that sometimes is OEM branded even, and sum peoples still have this issue.  Tiny etoolz, such as we use to chatext use modules that have integrated multipurposes which causes interference within the devices themselves, which u already kno.  They can fix this with patches to multitask on various levels so theres no conflicts, they just dont care!  Resource conflicts have been an issue since peripherals were birthed,,,!!!

Same problem here, but with Bluetooth speakers.

Nexus 7 2013 can't hold the connexion for a long time. Tried with my windows phone and it held it perfectly.

Will try with my android smartphone to see if it's android or device related.

My bluetooth issues remain even though I am on 4.4.4 with my Nexus 7 2013. The keyboard worked good in the beginning then must have broke along the upgrade path.

    Pathetic.

Bought a Nexus 7 2013 this week... works great until I pair it with a BT headset.. Then wifi is dropping in a few minutes. Seems like interference in the 2.4G band.. I suspect using 5GHz wifi band will fix it, but I don't have a router with that capability to proof it, not going to spend more money to debug faulty device to begin with.

This thread shows that it's been like this for a long time and yet not fixed? Really??
Sigh.. should have done more research before buying it.. going back to non-android now.

Its a weird issue, never had an issue until I updated to 4.4.4. Now no matter what I have the same issue with intermittent Bluetooth connection drops.

Tried both 2.4GHz and 5GHz on my router - fail
    Flashed Android 4.4, 4.4.2, 4.4.4 and L Preview - fail

I had problems connecting an Apple bluetooth keyboard to my 2013 Nexus 7, but on a lark I bought a cheap, older Dell bluetooth desktop keyboard.  I love the action on it, and it connected to my Nexus 7 perfectly.  It's a Dell Model Y-RAQ-DEL2, CN-0GM952-44751.  It really is enjoyable to use, and greatly enhances the enjoyment of my Nexus 7.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Kenneth Ketchum 10/29/14 2:45 AM
If you are using OTG plus transceiver dongle that comes with keyboard and mouse, etc, that's basically the same as using a wired keyboard//device, because now you are not using your device's bluetooth module but using the OTG as a host for the additional "module" that comes with the keyboard and mouse.

This works excellent without interference to/from device(phone/tablet-droid device) just as would using a wired keyboard/mouse.  When trying to use the onboard bluetooth module in the droid device, the drivers and signal becomes confused//switching between packets intended for one portion of a shared "bluetooth/wifi adapter" combo, which comes standard on all droid devices.

Now, the next issue is powering/charging your device when you are stuck hosting your OTG.  Your device cannot charge while OTG is tethered for keyboard//peripheral use.

A splitter works fine; I am talking about an OTG splitter that sends power TOWARDS your droid device whilst allowing the OTG device to function sending and receiving input data.  Dell has finally introduced such a spliter for their Dell Venue 8Pro series which while not specifically for Droid, is the concept.

While windows handles bluetooth way better than any Droid device, a windows tablet works best with a full/mid sized keyboard for typing on, rather than a smallish Motorola KZ450 type keyboard with mouse combo.

Using such a keyboard doesn't require a tether//seperate module, so the tablet can be charged as needed while using this keyboard.  I like a bigger keyboard, even if it's a wired board.

I like the microsoft multimedia keyboard with mouse pad and the Logitech board with mouse pad.  Using them though results in disconnnecting them, due to "relative" module, with OTG, to change to just charging device.

To utilize charging and OTG data/keyboard-mouse use, the new ABES Dell data and charge adapter for the Venue 8 Pro Win series tablets works great.

This is the concept you need for your Droid tablet, so you can charge as needed, yet use a "seperate" OTG'd module to host your keyboard that's not "bluetooth" onboard(Droid device hosted).

Sorry for being so redundant, but I am trying to make it clear.  IF you want to use a wireless keyboard or peripheral with no interruptions and stutters//character repeats and dropped wifi, or bluetooth signal, you have to use this concept.

They make a plethora of OTG while charging adapters now that work with both Win and Droid devices.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm on my Nexus 2013 with the exact same bluetooth mouse... it just pairs indefinitely. Really hoping Lollipop resolves this when it comes out this month.

Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time Mete Can Karahasan 12/15/14 9:26 AM
You guys can fix it by disabling "search for devices available to connect via bluetooth". If you tap the font, it will turn off bluetooth device surveillance and you will be able to connect weak wifi connections.
Unfortunately, there is no way to turn off automatic searching in Android 5, so I am considering to reset if Google doesn't reintegrate bluetooth automaticity. >:(
Re: Nexus 7 (2013) problem w/ wireless and bluetooth keyboard at the same time _A_D_ 2/6/15 9:17 AM
Nexus 7 (2013) running android 5.0.2 lollipop here. I have bluetooth audio connected to a Sony BM10 bluetooth music receiver that plugs by phono leads into my hifi.

I've found that if the Nexus7 is connected to 5GHz wifi then there are brief audio drop-outs / glitches - bit random, but on average maybe once per couple of minutes. The glitch is silent and is less than a second in duration.

The solution is to force the tablet to drop down to using 2.4GHz wifi - as soon as it does that the bluetooth audio is glitch free - tested for many hours, not a single one.

So something in the Nexus7(2013) bluetooth isn't 100% happy with 5GHz wifi running at the same time.
