July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Dr. Tom Roach 05/07/17 11:47
July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" This is on Pixel monthly update, and gives no hint of as to why.  Any Ideas?
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jason R Bell 05/07/17 11:51
I'm getting the same message with the OTA update on my Pixel.

I took a bug report, restarted, and tried the update again. I got the same error. Potential problem - I'm on the beta of Google Play Services.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Hank Pham 05/07/17 12:02
I'm having the same issue.  And I don't have any beta software installed.  I hope this is fixable without a factory reset.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update VA-Jeep 05/07/17 12:29
Same thing.  Also says can only be downloaded via WiFi connection until July 8.  First I've seen that in all the updates.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Bert Hyman 05/07/17 12:53
Same thing here. Gets to the end of the download and just says "Couldn't update. Installation problem." with the option to "Try again" which fails the same way.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update 03trdblack 05/07/17 13:01
Same for me as others have posted.  Stock Pixel on Project Fi.  Installation fails each time and I've tried before and after reboots.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update MrStatic 05/07/17 13:12

Same here as well. Stock Pixel on Fi.

Same problem on my Project Fi Pixel. Update worked fine on my Pixel C and Nexus 5X.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jeff Ferron 05/07/17 15:45
Same here.   The OTA will not install.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Paul 05/07/17 16:36
Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting us know -- we're looking into this.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update venom762 05/07/17 16:55
Same thing for me on Google Fi Network.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Stephen Vujevich 05/07/17 17:40
Also on Google Fi with installation failure.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jason R Bell 05/07/17 17:50
Since I'm an impatient sort, I decided to sideload the OTA. That seems to have worked just fine.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update yaz1975 05/07/17 18:15
I've just attempted to sideload on a Pixel, bone stock, T-Mobile, and it failed twice. Fails verification every time. I've sideloaded every update on every Google phone for many years, this is the first instance like this I've seen. And those who talk about not being able to update unless WiFi until July 8th, that delay has been there for the last few updates, it's nothing new.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Cameron Aaron 05/07/17 18:22
As Paul mentioned this is being looked into :) Thank you so much for reporting though!

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Hsiang-Fu Jan 05/07/17 19:05
This seems to be only happening on regular Pixel? Can anyone with XL comment if they aren't able to download?
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Dr. Tom Roach 05/07/17 19:53
Looks like they pulled the update, did not go through with new update but just not showing one available,  Google Team seems to be on this.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update David T 2 05/07/17 20:55
Same issue, on T-Mobile
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update larryfeins 05/07/17 21:05
I have same issue with pixel from google on Project Fi(refurbished pixel as original was replaced because photo stopped working) Spoke to support, they wanted me to sideload, decided against it-I will give it a few days to see if it is fixed
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Todd Colvin 05/07/17 21:42
Happening to me as well. Pixel, build NKG47L, using Ting over T-Mobile's network.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update p_seattle 05/07/17 23:32
Sideload worked fine for me too
July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update eaccents 06/07/17 01:36
Same here.

Downloaded update via WiFi at work onto a stock OS Pixel running on T-Mobile (never rooted, never modded, no Beta software) and get installation error repetitively.

Reboot several hours later when I got home to try again on faster WiFi and now update not showing up (as if Google pulled it...wisely I might add).

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Paul 06/07/17 15:39
Hi again everyone,

Thanks again for reporting this. Our support team is going to reach out to a few of you via email to look for some volunteers for additional data in the form of a bug report file. Please don't post bug report files here in the forum as they may contain personal data (such as your GPS coordinates) that you might not want to share publicly.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jeff Ferron 06/07/17 16:07
@Paul, i am unable to re-download the OTA.  After enabling all of the options via the email and trying to download the OTA, it no longer appears for me to try to install.

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update venom762 06/07/17 20:07
I would love to send in a bug report but the update no longer is offered to me.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Paul 07/07/17 09:24
Thanks to those of you who have sent in bug reports!

FYI if you're still thinking of sending one, we don't actually need the error message or even the OTA in progress -- it's possible your phone's onboard logging has already caught the relevant data.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Michael Aviles 08/07/17 17:13
Stuck on May 5, 2017 security patch. Every time I check for update, I am told that I am up to date.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update yaz1975 08/07/17 19:58
Sideload the updates. It's just not that hard. It takes no time and talent at all.
July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Franklll 10/07/17 12:44
Is the update still rolling out? Or is it on hold for now. Had the error before but the update isn't available anymore.

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Bert Hyman 10/07/17 13:40
I received the July security update OTA on July 8.

Build NKG47M T-Mobile
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update p_seattle 10/07/17 13:42
OTA is still there to download and sideload yourself.  It's simple to do if you want it sooner.   I installed via sideload on day 1.  No issues with the actual build...  in fact I am finding that my Pixel bluetooth speaker connections are now working much better with this rev.

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Hank Pham 10/07/17 14:52
Just checked to see if the update was still there and it was.  Gave it a try and it went through just fine!  It got to the Step 1 of 2 screen and then rebooted and finished.  Looks like this one is fixed (at least for me)!
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update AngelBlue 10/07/17 15:15
I just got $130 excess data charge from my phone provider due to this problem. I am so pissed off right now.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update venom762 10/07/17 20:45
It's no longer available for me either.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Bert Hyman 11/07/17 08:10
I was offered the July security update (Build NKG47M T-Mobile) OTA and installed it on July 8.

I have to assume that the update is now being handled "normally" which means that it's not being offered to everyone at the same time, but to groups of people every day.

Since the Pixel hasn't yet been abandoned as my old Nexus 6 seems to have been, you should expect to receive the OTA in "a while."

Or, you could download and install it yourself.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Paul 11/07/17 14:10
Thanks again to everyone who reported this. The update is currently continuing to roll out and we hope you find it problem-free. We'd appreciate any feedback about your experience with this update going forward. In other words, let us know how it's going!
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update p_seattle 11/07/17 14:17
Thanks Paul.  Is the list of fixes out?  It seems to have corrected a nagging bluetooth issue I was having with my Pixel.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jeff Ferron 13/07/17 15:48
@Paul,  it has been two days and I still have not see the new OTA available for my pixel device.

Please help!

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Dr. Tom Roach 13/07/17 17:12
I Started this Community back on the 5th,  Still don't have OTA update installed, just saying up to date.  This is hard on me, but what is life without little things stressing me out (So sad my life).   Have to remember that it's pretty amazing we get these OTA updates every month.  Google is doing the right thing, but I am part of a grumpy bunch that likes all things just so on the phones.  I have great faith that July update will come through and work perfectly.  Waiting Patiently
July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update eaccents 13/07/17 17:55
I got my update yesterday 07/12. Seems it is rolling out--meaning not everyone gets it at once.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jeff Audette 14/07/17 13:34
Does Google have any ETA when this will be fixed?
I got a replacement device which is stuck on January security patch. The system wants to download all since then (about 500 MB) but craps out at the end of step 1.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Paul 20/07/17 18:38
Update just became available for me, same error message, screen reports update is 69.2MB in size,  Fails before reaching 50% on step 1 of 2.

Play Store 32GB pixel on Verizon network attempting to update over home wifi.

Well mine at last came through yesterday.  Worked just fine, seemed to take longer but thanks Google.  July was a rough month!
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jeff Ferron 21/07/17 04:55
I gave up and sideloaded the OTA.   Thanks Google for fixing the issue! :/

After having this problem initially I waited and forgot about it until now, as of now the system update just does nothing, it doesn't respond to my inputs at all.

I'm still waiting as of July 27th. Pixel 128GB Project-Fi.

I have a Nexus 5X, my Pixel is allegedly in shipping, and I am running the Android O beta. I have the July patch and there were no problems.

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Jeff Audette 27/07/17 13:22
you have to sideload it. I pasted the process from google support below: It looks like a lot, but it's actually pretty easy if you follow these instruction

----Pasted info from google email below----

Thank you for getting back to me. I’ve provided steps on how to Side-load Android OS on your Windows and Mac OS X machine below:

  1. Make sure your data is backed up; this process doesn’t normally wipe your phone, but your phone may need a factory reset in some circumstances.
  2. Download the SDK Platform Tools for your operating system here: https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
    • Make sure the above file is unzipped into a folder called platform-tools, and make note of the folder name and location (note: the platform-tools folder should contain several files, including one named adb and another named fastboot)
  3. Navigate to this page https://developers.google.com/android/ota and review the Terms & Conditions. Once accepted, the sideload download links will be available to download.
    • Download the Sailfish sideload file, NJH47B
    • Copy the sideload zip file to the platform-tools folder (note: do not unzip the sideload file)
  4. Boot your device into Recovery Mode and select ADB sideload mode:
    • While the device is off, press and hold the volume down key and power button.
    • On the bootloader screen, use the volume buttons to select Recovery Mode
    • When you see an Android laying down, first press and hold the power button, then tap the volume up key. Release the power button when a menu option appears
    • In the Recovery menu, use the volume keys to highlight Apply update from ADB, then tap the Power button to start it
    • You should see a message saying Now send the package you want to apply to the device with “ADB sideload <filename>”
  5. Plug the device into your computer with a USB data cable
  6. [Windows] Use the command prompt to sideload Android:
    • In File Explorer, bring up the folder you unzipped platform-tools to in the second step
    • Press the Windows key + r
    • Type CMD in the box that appears and hit enter
    • In the CMD box type cd, then the space bar
    • Drag-and-drop the platform-tools folder from File Explorer into the CMD box
    • Select the CMD box, then press enter
    • Type adb sideload filename.zip (note: for filename.zip, use the exact file name from step 3)
  7. [Mac] Use Terminal to sideload Android:
    • In Finder, open the folder you unzipped platform-tools to in Step 2
    • Bring up a Terminal window
    • Type cd, then the space bar
    • Drag-and-drop the platform-tools folder from Finder into Terminal
    • Select the Terminal window, then press enter
    • Type ./adb sideload filename.zip (note: for filename.zip, use the exact file name from step 3)
      Press Enter.

Once it's done processing the sideload file, you’ll see a message indicating the update was installed. Once it has, choose Reboot system now on the phone’s recovery screen.

Note: If the device stays on the startup screen for more than 20 minutes, you’ll need to perform a factory data reset to clear out conflicting data.

Thanks,

Elsie

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Lilybell2 28/07/17 15:11
@Jeff Audette  -  I used a slightly different technique to sideload the update, but it worked well.  Just a note to anyone reading this thread... the Sailfish ota files are for the Pixel.  The Pixel XL will need a Marlin ota file.

Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Wayren 29/07/17 00:15
July 29th and still no update received. Attempted sideload of update and it did complete successfully.

"Installation problem" and used up 4 GB in 4 days.  is there a fix?
pixel xl, and it is a replacement phone in Toronto. the original one did not have this issue but could not charge all of a sudden.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Mike Stanciu 05/08/17 21:28
Same here. Pixel XL. Burned through 2+ GB of data in a few days and now into overage charges. I've had to turn days off. Just got the phone from a RMA for a warranty issue. WTF happening and who is paying for the data overages Google?
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Mike Stanciu 06/08/17 10:32
Any updates on this? I've had to turn off my data at this point as it's draining data at an alarming rate. Apparently it's tied to this update. I think it's downloading the update on the background over and over again, due to the installation issue. Come on Google, I'm without a phone at this point. Escalated to advance support but will take 3-5 days to get back to me. Seriously? Phone is a brick at this point.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Kirk Shaw 06/08/17 10:53
That's super weird. My phone won't even download the updates over cell data and usually tells me there is an update available and it's waiting for wifi to even download.
Re: July 5th Update - just says "installation Problem" Pixel monthly update Michael Fucilli 09/08/17 13:09
@Paul,

Why can't I get in touch with anyone from support? In short. My pixel has suffered a failed microphone. They sent me a defective replacement which will not connect to service. And now support is refusing to address the broken device they have shipped me. Every call to support results in a maze of non-answers. PLEASE HELP!
