calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Bill Colombo 16/12/14 16:04
Can anyone help me solve this issue!
when i add an event in my calendar directly on my iphone, it immediately turns it into GMT time.  there is a memo under the event that says GMT and if I go into the calendar its locked in gmt time.
If i enter the same event in calendar on my computer, NO GMT.
I tryed the apple store and all they succeeded in doing was wipe my phone clean of all my settings.
Still a problem.
I used to be able to add events with this GMT stuff, but no it shows up on everything!!

Hello Bill Colombo,

Please try this:

Find the iPhone calendar time zone settings.

To disable Time Zone Support for calendars

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. Scroll down to Calendars.
  3. Tap Time Zone Support.
  4. Slide the slider for Time Zone Support to OFF.

To enable Time Zone Support for calendars

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  2. Scroll down to Calendars.
  3. Tap Time Zone Support.
  4. Slide the slider for Time Zone Support to ON.
  5. Tap Time Zone.
  6. Enter your current location or the closest city in the same time zone and tap it when it appears in the results list.

To ensure you have the same time you have in your calendar, I suggest you Slide "Time Zone Support" OFF.

Let me know if this helps!

Best regards,
Keveen

Hi Keveen,
thanks for the suggestion.  That was the first thing we did try, and it did not work.In both states, on and off, GMT still show up.

Bill,

A lot of users are experiencing this issue and it looks to be a bug within Apple's Calendar app. I have searched countless forums and no one seems to have a fix. It looks to be an Apple issue rather then Google. Just a heads up. Don't want you wasting your time here when it looks to be an issue on Apple's side.

I am having the same issue as Bill (also only on iPhone and iPad but not computer) and spent an hour today with a "genius" who said that he thinks it is a bug in gmail not an "i" device issue.  If you find someone at your apple that can fix, please suggest that they share company wide.  Thanks!!

My calendar app is doing the same.  I contacted Apple and they said it was a known Google issue, but that there was no fix as of this time.

I'm not sure if you've found a fix for this yet, but I just updated my 5c last night to iOS 8.1.2 and once i was in the add event area of the calendar and was entering my start time, I was able to select the correct time zone & GMT is no longer showing  Hope this helps.

Following this forum and I also have the same problem.  I have done the update and test wassen my problems started. So I don't think update is the answer.

Yesterday I did the latest update hoping it would correct this calendar issue. No such luck. Why are some of us having this issue and others aren't? I feed my emails into Outlook on my laptop but not into an exchange server. Does that matter? I have tried every suggestion possible. Absolutely nothing will fix this. My husband is convinced it's my phone, however, I've owned my 5s for a year. It's driving me insane!!!
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Alaia Berdecia 26/12/14 06:17
I disagree, I contacted an Apple representative this morning and the issue is with Google. I went into Gmail and checked my account settings in Calendar and my time zone is set to (GMT-5:00) Eastern Time... Thus, when I sync my calendar in my phone with Gmail, it schedules my events and then also makes the start time for the event five hours later. This is an issue with Google.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Dav1d02 27/12/14 20:24
I've got the same issue on my iPhone 6, but only with the calendars that are linked to my Google Calendar. All my iCloud calendars are not affected - this adds weight to the evidence that it is a Google issue.

My fix? After entering a new event and seeing the inevitable 'GMT' pop up, I edit the event and re-select the correct timezone, and the GMT disappears.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Pam Sligar 28/12/14 19:05
David, that's what I've been doing however you also have to change the time back to the correct time for your time zone.

GMT - 5 hours IS Eastern time, so that option is the correct setting in Google Calendar.

Keveen, I tried your suggestion and it didn't work.

My experience with Apple is that they're oblivious outside the Apple ecosystem.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Pam Sligar 28/12/14 19:23
We all need to contact Apple support so they're aware of how many users it's affecting.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Dav1d02 28/12/14 19:31
Yes, you're right - you have to re-correct the time/timezone.

Another discovery - if I create the event on my Google Calendar, it appears on iCal/iOS correctly, with no 'GMT'. However when I create the event on iCal/iOS, the 'GMT' eventually appears.

When I check that event on Google, the timezone of the event is not specified, hence it defaults to 'GMT'.

So I conclude from this, that when the event-data migrates from Apple's system to Google's, the timezone of the event is not transferred. However when the event is created in Google and the event-data migrates from Google to Apple, the timezone IS included, therefore the 'GMT' doesn't occur.

All of my iCloud events don't have this problem btw, only the events on my calendars that are synced across Google/Apple.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Alvin Tay 28/12/14 20:53
There are no options called "Time Zone Support". Instead there's an option "Time Zone Override".

I tried turning it on and off, setting it to my current timezone but nothing worked.

I'm having the same issues--the annoying GMT shows up on events that I create on my iphone or ipad but not from my mac laptop.   I tried the time zone override under settings--mail, contacts, and calendars and it didn't help.   I'll be watching to see if anyone else figures out a fix--at least I'm not alone!!    If one would contact Apple--where specifically is the best way to communicate with them.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Sam Jones 4 29/12/14 13:42
Here my discovery: created an event on my iPhone for an ICloud calendar; no 'GMT' showed up.  Then, I moved the event to a Google calendar and the GMT showed up.  Certainly a Google issue.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Apfmx55 29/12/14 13:47
Creating it on apples calender and moving it to Gmail doesn't prove its google's issue or Apple's. If I create an event on Google calender there is no GMT either until it's synced with ICal. So in the end there's an issue between Apple and Google calender. Who's causing the issue seems to be up for grabs at this point.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Dav1d02 29/12/14 14:13
Hi Sam,

I don't think we can say it's definitively a Google issue.

It's either:
a) A data transmission problem with Apple (ie it doesn't send the correct timezone info to Google's calendar); or

b) A data reception problem with Google (ie it doesn't receive the correct timezone info from Apple's calendar).

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Sam Jones 4 29/12/14 14:21
Odd. When I create an event in Google using Safari on a Mac, I don't see any GMT issues using the native calendar app on my IPhone 6. The issue only pops up with Google (not other calendar apps) which- again- suggests a Google issue.
By the way, when I create an event on my IPhone, I can go to Google on my Mac, edit the Time Zone, and once the event syncs, the GMT issue goes away [for that appointment only] on my IPhone.

Seems- as a previous poster mentioned- Google doesn't correctly preserve the time zone information. The issue seems to only happen in one direction (Apple to Google) and only after syncing. (I don't see the GMT issue until I can see the appointment on my Google cal)

Not an IT guy at all. Just wanting to fix the issue. It almost caused an issue today when I edited an event on my iPhone. Guess Google/Apple have been given a heads-up, so we just wait now?
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Dav1d02 29/12/14 14:28
You're right Sam, it is an 'Apple-to-Google' issue, but what we can't determine, is whether it's Apple's transmission problem, or Google's reception problem.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Sam Jones 4 29/12/14 14:32
Thanks David. How do we go forward?
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Sam Jones 4 29/12/14 14:44
If it were an Apple Trans issue, we would see GMT pop up if Apple synced with- say- Yahoo?  I just tried that and had no such problem. And, again if I switch the cal from yahoo to gmail I get the GMT issue. Again, not an IT guy and not trying to be argumentative. Thanks.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Dav1d02 29/12/14 14:57
Nice Sam! Looks like a Google reception issue then 😊

To report this issue to Apple, go to: http://www.apple.com/feedback

This thread on Apple Support Communities has a lot regarding this problem.  Unfortunately Apple doesn't seem to monitor their Support Communities to respond to issues reported there.

In one of the posts it's suggested to send reports to the following media outlets to see if this will help get the problem investigated and resolved more quickly:

Also, I highly encourage you to report this bug to online tech news sites so they will pick up on it.  Here are links to the "tip" pages for several of them:

Describe the bug, and reference this discussion thread...and that it has had over 22k views as of now...which indicates this is a widespread issue that a lot of people are searching for and finding the thread as a search result.

If even one online tech news reports on this you can guarantee this will get fixed sooner than later.  If a tech site sees multiple "tips" about this they will investigate it.

If we'll all do this, hopefully we'll be the proverbial squeeky wheel that gets oiled!

Having the same unwanted GMT problem on my iPad. Time zone corrections can be made for each indivdual event, but this is not optimal.

I recently returned from an EST to PST back to ESt trip. Any correlation?

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line jkirk 30/12/14 07:20
It's an Apple iOS 8.1.2 issue because the common denominator is iOS, not Apple's Mac OS desktop platform, not Windows, not Android, Windows Phone, or Blackberry - all of which continue to work seamlessly with unchanged Google Calendar. Google Calendar hasn't changed; iOS 8 has changed with issues galore. It's on Apple's end. QED.

By Apple tribal fan boys' reasoning, the conclusion will never be that it's Apple's fault. Antenna Gate? Users' faults for holding their phones wrong. Obsolete 0.5" screen form-factors? Steve said modern big screens were dumb, so people who wanted bigger screens were dumb and causing polar-bear-killing global warming with their modern big screened Androids. Apple Maps' innumerable fails? The US Air Force was obviously screwing with the GPS constellation while satellite manufacturers were distorting satellite pics to make Apple look bad. Yeah, the Google Maps that Apple blocked worked fine on every other platform, but it was not Apple's fault! LMFAO. >$1k for an iPhone 6 Plus 128GB with more errors and less screen real estate and capability than an Android at half the cost. I see I made a good choice.

Fan boys' heads explode whenever Apple doesn't just work.
Glitches have plagued iOS 8 iterations ever since they released - documented in countless iPhone forums blowing up.

How many non-iPhone forums have been blowing up about Google Calendar switching time zones to Greenwich Mean Time? Zero. Apple's got your money. Now go stand in line for 2 hours at an Apple Store for a 10 minute session with some unshowered hipster telling you it's a Google issue, your 60 days support for your $1,000 device is expired, and you should drop another $100 for an Apple Support plan, where 4 different non-native English-speaking phone reps can give you 4 different answers.

Don't worry. In October, you can give Apple $1100 for an S model "upgrade." Tell any Samsung user about these Apple-just-works problems and how much you paid for your i-conformist-awesomeness.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Kelmye 30/12/14 07:59
Wow, jkirk, angry much?  Why do you have an Apple product if you hate them?

Just to address a few of the issues you mentioned:

1. It cannot be an 8.1.2 issue as I have not downloaded that update.

2.  All other calendars work w/o changing events  to GMT.  That problem is limited strictly to Google Calendar.

3.  Let me state first that I do not work for Apple nor does anyone I know that would cause me to benefit from saying the following:  Apple customer service is awesome!  I would venture to say I've had tens of thousands of dealings with companies in my lifetime.  Most have been nothing short of completely frustrating.  Apple & Canon as well, are superior in the training of their employees.  I ALWAYS get an English speaking representative & I've never been transferred or left on hold for ridiculous amounts of time.  I've received assistance without being charged even outside of my warranty.  I've had a representative call me back just to check that my issue had been resolved.
Yes, the stores are ALWAYS crowded, but that indicates a banging business!  I think you're jealous!  I know I wish I had a piece of that Apple!  Lol.  As far as price, my 5s cost me a whopping $75.  If anyone is paying full price they're crazy.

In closing, Merry Christmas, jkirk.  I hope Santa brought you some Xanax; you could use it!   ;)

actually, you get 365 days of support for your Apple device... and 365 days for $99 with applecare...along with being able to get a broken phone replaced twice for only $79 rather than the $200 insurance that you already pay $10 a month for...

Still another discovery: I downloaded the Sunrise calendar app onto my IPhone 6 and do NOT get this GMT error when I create events in Sunrise.

I only get the GMT error when the event is created on iOS no matter the device: be it an iPhone or Mac, etc. Events created in Google do not show GMT on an i-device upon sync.

Events created on an I-Device and synced to a non-Google calendar (ie Yahoo) do not create this error.

I can correct the GMT error several ways including going to Google via Safari (or whatever), editing the event and selecting the appropriate time zone.

This error happens even on IPhones that haven't been updated to the last IOS.

***All devices, accounts are set on the correct time zone.

Just another data point. As a test I set up a calendar on my own server that connects via caldav (same protocol Google uses). I got the same bad behavior on iOS 8.1 as with my Google-hosted calendars. And, as with the Google calendars, the problem does not occur on other platforms (e.g. OSX, Android Kit Kat). Looks to me that iOS 8 doesn't play nice with caldav.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line SharCe 01/01/15 20:37
My iPhone is doing GMT time too! It's such a relief others are having same problem and that something is being done! After changing settings the time shows correctly if my phone is vertical, but if I turn it sideways to see the week, the times all convert to GMT! It does work to manually reset the time zone for  each event...and to change the time back to the correct time.
Verizon tech rep said to wipe my phone clean and reset everything. If I understand correctly you all are saying that won't fix it?

I have been having this issue for several weeks, too, and I am glad to find out I am not alone. I have a 5s and have already upgraded to ios 8.1.2. I still have the issue with that update installed . Like everyone else, if I input the calendar info on my computer's Google Calendar, it syncs fine with my iPhone. It's when I enter info into the iPhone when teh GMT switch happens. I double checked today when entering something to make sure I was putting it onto EDT (my time zone) and it was set for that, yet when I saved the entry it switched itself to GMT. Hoping someone either on Google or Apple's side comes up with a fix.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Jarrett Gorin 02/01/15 19:44
jkirk above may need a Xanax, but he's right about this:

"It's an Apple iOS 8.1.2 issue because the common denominator is iOS, not Apple's Mac OS desktop platform, not Windows, not Android, Windows Phone, or Blackberry - all of which continue to work seamlessly with unchanged Google Calendar. Google Calendar hasn't changed; iOS 8 has changed with issues galore. It's on Apple's end."

This is 100% an issue with Apple iOS 8.x  It is not a Google issue.  I have had this issue since the iOS 8 update in September and I use Microsoft Exchange to sync my devices.  I don't use a single Google product for anything.  Also, there's no need to speculate about this.....APPLE HAS CONFIRMED THIS IS DUE TO A BUG IN IOS 8.X.  They are working on a fix and it will supposedly be included in the next iOS update (8.1.3).

If you want to see what causes this bug to show up, both with Google Calendar and MS Exchange, here's a great article about it:

The problem is that buggy code in iOS 8 somehow picks up the system time clock setting of the actual physical hardware that your user account resides on, and then transposes your appointments to whatever time zone that is set to.  If it is set to the same time zone as your iOS device then you won't see anything weird.  If it isn't, you will see all your appointments get transposed to the timezone the server is set to....usually GMT.  I am not talking about your user "settings" on the server.  I am talking about what the actual clock on the hardware is set to on whatever server your account sits on in the banks of Google's servers.

Google didn't create this problem and Google can't fix it.  Don't waste your time trying to pursue it with Google.  The best thing you can do is submit a bug report to Apple:

Even better, if you are willing to be on hold for a while, call AppleCare and initiate an advanced tech support case.  Call  877-203-0418.  Do not waste time talking to the first-tier tech.  They will.....even three months after reports were submitted about this...still tell you "we have never heard of that before."  Immediately ask to have your case ESCALATED.  By the time you are talking with 2nd or 3rd tier support they will confirm they are aware of this.  Register your case anyway.  The more registered them more likely a fix is going to come sooner than later.

Good luck.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line mbell19 03/01/15 09:25
Just to add - I have the 4S, using Google calendar to sync to the Apple calendar app.  Problem started with my recent update to ios 8.1.2 - which was about 3 weeks ago.  Not sure if that's just the timing of the issue between Google & Apple or if the update caused the problem (not likely, based on responses here, so must be coincidental).  I used online chat with Apple, and wiped the phone clean, and it didn't work.  Went to Apple store, they said "must be a Google problem since when the test event is posted it shows correctly, and takes a few seconds to change it to GMT - once it syncs with Google".  I can't tell you how annoying it is to have to go into EVERY event I create on my phone and edit it back to the correct time zone.  I primarily use the calendar on  my phone and not on the desktop - the desktop sync is simply a backup function for me.  However, I did notice that when I enter the event on the desktop as a test it does not switch to GMT.  It is definitely some function of Apple not talking to Google or Google not talking to Apple in the correct format.  That's my totally non-IT explanation. :)
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line mbell19 03/01/15 09:33
Here's a question for you all - is there a Google calendar  app I can use instead of the ios app and solve this problem? Or is there an easy way to migrate my Google calendar data to an icloud calendar?  I just want to use a system where I have a backup in case my phone is lost, dies, etc.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Richtoes 03/01/15 18:33
I was at the Genius bar at Apple today with this same complaint and they tried to pass it off as a Google problem!!
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Bonnie Oleson 04/01/15 06:46
I was at the Apple store yesterday with this exact same problem. The genius actually told me that it was a problem with the iOS update. What we did to solve it was to install a Google calendar called CalenMob. The free version is okay but I upgraded to the $6.99 version that has all of the features. This solves the problem of switching things to GMT time zone. But because you're not going to the ICal calendar anymore, Siri doesn't know what your plans are for tomorrow, but that's really not a big issue for me.

So until the bug in the iOS update gets fixed, the best solution seems to be just install that app with the new calendar. I think the app has a better look to it anyway but once again, that's just my opinion. Good luck!
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Jan Waluk 04/01/15 12:18
This procedure has worked for me on both my iPad and iPhone.

Add the event to the calendar as you normally would, but make it a weekly repeating event that has an end date less than one week away. It then appears in the calendar in your local time zone and does not repeat.

I spent time today with a "genius" at Apple Store. They are seeing more and more of this. Google and Apple agree that it is a problem in the IOS and Apple is working on a "fix" so look for another update. This started happening on my iPhone and iPad after the last update. Very frustrating.

I was having the exact same problem.  Super annoying and confusing for anyone I invited to a calendar event.  I needed to manually select the correct time zone when I created the event on my iPhone to make the GMT go away.  Hopefully that helps until whoever is responsible fixes this bug.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Frank J Kapr 06/01/15 22:04
I was having this same problem with GMT time on my iPhone running IOS 8. What I did was - go to: Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; Time Zone Override: turn green button on.  Then select the city of your time zone ie: New York. Go back  to settings and to your desk top. Check your Calendar and it should now reference the new city.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line SharCe 06/01/15 23:31
Mine corrected itself partly...when I put in an event it shows correctly in my time zone, UNLESS I turn my phone sideways! Then the event shows up in GMT time. For now after I add an event, I edit it (while holding my phone sideways) by changing the time and the timezone on the GMT event and that takes care of it. The time override button in settings didn't affect the GMT on my phone.
Hopefully since there seem to be partial fixes going on, it means Apple and/or Google are fixing the problem!

Just got off phone with Apple Support.  They have been hit with lots of phone calls and finally realize there is a problem.  Hoping to have it resolved by Monday.  Something in the latest ios update caused glitch.  Thought I was loosing my mind and my husband told me I must have done something to my phone and settings.  I am not the most tech savvy person and don't venture into settings and changing anything.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Frank J Kapr 09/01/15 16:08

The FIX for NEW entries is: go to: Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; Time Zone Override - turn green button on.  Then select the city of your time zone ie: New York. Go back to settings and to your desk top. Check you’re Calendar and it should now reference the new city.

This does NOT FIX existing Calendar entries that still reference GMT.  They must be DELETED.  Copy the Title and paste in the NEW Calendar entry.  This will be a Manual fix.  But, until the Apple IOS 8.1.2 bug is fixed this is your alternate.

What you can do as a temporary fix is to add your appt. time alongside the event in the title & then select "all day event".

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line terry simpkins 11/01/15 11:59
I  believe it is an upload error from iPhone to Google.  If I add an event to iPhone there is a slight delay to when the "GMT" label shows up.  Which would seem to mean when the event syncs to Google the time zone is being changed.  If I then go the Google calendar and open the event for edit the correct time zone is shown.  Then if I save the event even though I didn't change anything, the event refreshes on the iPhone to the correct time zone and the "GMT" disappears.  So there seems to be an sync error (or time hand-off error) from the iPhone to Google but not from Google to the iPhone.  In addition this also happens on an old iPhone 3G running iOS 6.1.6 .
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line terry simpkins 11/01/15 12:04
I need to modify the steps above.   When the event is changed in Google calendar the event shows no time zone in the edit window.  If you click on the "Time Zone" and save it as your current time zone, the iPhone calendar now shows the correct time zone and no "GMT".

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line mbell19 12/01/15 04:48
When I enter the info on my desktop calendar (Google.com), the event shows up correctly on my iphone.  But when I enter the event on my iphone, which is most frequently the case for me, the time changes.  Even when I change the time zone in the original entry of the event, once it syncs with Google the time is changed, and I have to edit the event and time zone again.  SO FRUSTRATING doing double entries for each event!!

I had one event with a repeat that worked correctly yesterday.  Then I made a test entry a few minutes later, with no repeat, and it went back to GMT.  It did take longer to "reset" itself to GMT than the second or two it normally takes - it was more like 30 seconds.  Don't know if this means they are working on it or not.  Changing time zone override does nothing for me - that was one of the first things I tried.  When I went to the Apple store about 10 days ago, he had never seen it before and simply said "it's a Google problem" since it changes once the event syncs with Google.  The real question is - is it that iphone is not talking to Google correctly or is Google not talking to iPhone correctly when the sync happens?  Hope they figure it out soon - but I bet it will require another software update which may take weeks.

Re: iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events.in response to James Barber

I've tried all aspects to resolve this matter by the doing the following:

From Google Calendar:

Remove Event Time Zone with the option >> (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (do not convert to equivalent local time)

In iCloud and Mail, Contacts, and Calendars settings:

(checked off) Enabled Time Zone Support in preference (cog lower left of the icloud.com calendar)

Under Settings: Time Zone (set to my local EST)

iOS 8.x.x: Mail, Contacts, and Calendars:

Time Zone Override (on)

Either way; with the above off or on; it doesn't change any aspect when editing the event time in iOS calendar. You're not able to edit the "local" event time. When editing the event time; you're ONLY modifying time zone event time. ***!!!

I believe is stemming from and only inherent in iOS. Google Calendar or iCloud or iCal is not the issue.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Whimsy Collective 13/01/15 07:35

Another option that didn't work on iOS.

Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services (scroll all the way to bottom) > Setting Time Zone (off/on)

I toggled this option and still the issue persist.

This is true for me as well and only since Daylight Savings Time went into effect in November: NOT when I got my new phone in September - I have tried adjusting setting in my google calendar - but it continues to revert to a 5 hour time difference.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line SharCe 14/01/15 15:32
Kelmye,
All I did was after each event was added, and the event would automatically show up as a second event in GMT time,  I'd hit edit for the 2nd event, change the time to the correct time for my timezone, and then change the GMT timezone to my timezone.
After doing this for a while, my phone stopped adding GMT...I thought Apple or Google had fixed something...

Issue: every time I add a new calendar event, it automatically changes to "GMT" within 1 second.

As of right now it seems to be an Google issue, since this doesn't do it with my iCloud calendar but does do it with my google calendar. Apple has stated its aware of the issue and is working on it. I have given the feedback and got a reply for Apple Engineering. Unfortunately when call apple you are talking with a person sitting  at there house and they don't know everything that is going in with Apple. I've contacted Apple engineering and they said they are working on it and it's an issue with specific types of syncing accounts and how the sync. Some people are having the issue with exchange accounts also.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line speby 18/01/15 15:15
I am experiencing this issue as many others are. Again, it happens when I create an event on the iOS device, not when an event is created on Google Calendar and synced to the iOS device later.

I decided to hook my iPhone up to a web debugging proxy to get a look at the differences of what the iPhone is sending/receiving with events that have the GMT showing versus an event that works correctly and does not have the GMT showing. This is what I found (I apologize as the image is big).

The left file is the response from a typical HTTP REPORT that Calendar does to get event information and is the information Calendar on iOS is getting back from Google AFTER it has PUT a new event to my Google Calendar. This left event, titled, "iPhone event gmt test" exhibits the GMT funny business on the iOS calendar.

The right file is the HTTP REPORT of an event that I had created in the desktop browser of Google Calendar and does not exhibit the GMT funny business on the iOS calendar.

As best I can tell, I would think this a bug in iOS and seems to be something to do with DTSTART and DTEND field in these CalDAV records. On the left (the event showing the GMT issue), DTSTART and DTEND lack the timezone information in their field. On the right (the event which does not show the GMT issue), the timezone information IS included.

I can't say for sure this is part of iOS's bug since there are other fields included which DO include the timezone, such as X-WR-TIMEZONE listing "America/Chicago." But in any case, for some reason, Apple iOS is not using that information to show/hide the GMT stuff.

Anyways, I realize this doesn't provide a solution but at least more information on the problem and the nature of the bug.

Jarrett, thanks so much for the detailed contact info.  I think the best that we can do is to make "noise" about the issue regardless if it is with initiation or transmission.  We are all experiencing the frustration and confusion the GMT listing is creating and unless you edit every appt added into the iOS, there isn't much we can do right now.  Let's just "make noise" and get our voices heard!

Whew, I'm glad it's not just me going crazy and that this seems to be a legit bug. Hopefully it will get fixed ASAP! Never had any issues in the past. I've been able to work around it by posting the event (which gets converted to GMT), then going back into the event and changing the time to my time zone manually (which it is already set as, but with this bug, I have to do it again). It's a pain in the ***, but at least my stuff is entered correctly. Meanwhile, get on this, Apple!

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line KJH333 20/01/15 19:53
Just FYI.  This happened to me before I updated my phone to iOS 8.  I waited as long as I could (almost a year) because I had heard so many people tell me that they had problems after the update, such as losing their contacts because they didn't back their phone up on the computer first.  The reason I updated to iOS 8 is because I was having the GMT time zone issue when I went to edit the event, which is where it showed up.  If I clicked back to my list it would still show the correct time however (unless I did any editing).  So weird.  Tried turning off my icloud calendar and that didn't work.  Hope they fix this soon!  For now, if you want to edit the event in any way or put a start and ending time, make sure when you click on the start time and end time that you also change the time zone below it to the correct time zone or it will show up wrong in your list when you go back to the list view. Good luck to us all.

I have been having the same problem. I took EVERBODIES advice, JK just the advice that didn't waste a ton of time, and I fixed it. Here's what I did.
Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Go to Time Zone Override
Turn it on (make it green)

Go to Google Calendar
Pick an appointment coming up, and edit it
Tuesday Jan 27, 2015
from 11 AM to 12 PM
from 7 PM to 8 PM (GMT)

edit
Tap Starts
Click on Time Zone and charge it to your nearest city
Done

I had to edit all upcoming, pre-entered appointments. Every appointment entered after that was correct. :)

I just updated to iOS 8.1.3 and the GMT bug persist. Until Apple officially patches the GMT bug it is best that you read the threads and refrain from posting "I fixed the issue by doing this ..."

See this Youtube video so you understand very well what's going on: Informational Rant - iOS 8 Calendar BUG (Converts Appointments to GMT)!!

Alternative solution is to use Sunrise Calendar App.

I don't use iCloud Calendar or Exchange Server. I use Google Calendar!
To remedy the GMT bug. I use the mobile version of Google Calendar from my iOS devices.

Re: iOS 8 Calendar on iPhone showing GMT times for new events. in response to scottb12349

Obviously, we are all pretty disappointed that Apple failed to fix this bug in the 8.1.3 iOS update.  Everyone needs to keep relentless pressure on Apple to take care of this major issue quickly.

I am happy to see that some media outlets specifically pointed
out that 8.1.3 does not fix the GMT Bug.  This includes:

Forbes

http://www.forbes.com/sites/amitchowdhry/2015/01/27/apple-releases-ios-8-1-3/

MacRumors

http://www.macrumors.com/2015/01/27/apple-releases-ios-8-1-3-with-bug-fixes-stor age-size-reduction/

JBGNews

http://www.jbgnews.com/2015/01/apples-ios-8-calendar-bug-still-present/594409.ht ml

I think it
's a big deal that these outlets are making a point of informing their readers that 8.1.3 did not fix this bug.  The GMT Bug is now widespread common knowledge to the point that it's newsworthy that 8.1.3 did not include a fix for it.  That's not a solution, but it's progress.

Also, literally as I was typing this post,  this crossed the 250k view mark.  That's over a QUARTER OF A MILLION VIEWS.  People are finding this thread when they search for information about the GMT Bug...usually because they are experiencing it.  Given that a relatively small % of people who actually have the GMT Bug manifesting on their iOS devices actually go to look up info about it, it's safe to say that a quarter of a million views of this thread indicates probably over a million iOS 8 users are affected by this.  Probably more, but a million is a HUGE problem.

If you are new to this thread, and you aren't going to read through the preceding 40+ pages (I don't blame you)....please note the following:

This is a BUG.
Apple engineers have confirmed that this is a BUG.
It isn't due to your server etc. it is baked in to the iOS code.
You can'
t fix it by changing settings, resetting your device etc.
There are a few less than convenient "workarounds" that people have used with varying degrees of success.
There is no magic "fix."
Apple needs to fix this, and their software engineers are the only people who can fix it.

As before, the best thing you can do if you want this fixed is to file a bug report with Apple.  Here is the link to do that:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Keep up the pressure on Apple to FIX THE GMT BUG!

I just got off the phone with Apple support and the rep escalated the issue for me after checking all my settings on my Apple devices.
The answer I got was that Google had changed their timezone process and that is what caused the issue.
Here is the link I was given (to a Google post)

So now what, fingers seem to be pointing in both directions, don't they?
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line bickerdyke 28/01/15 11:06
And that's why the problem started with the latest iOS-Update?

Well, couldn't testify on that at court, but that's what the forum post say when it started.

On the other hand, no one did anything wrong. As much as I understood from the posts, both sides implemented some good ideas - they're just not matching. Like Soda and pop rocks.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Nick Saylor 01/02/15 15:30
Hey guys,  I seem to have found something interesting.  iOS calendars will show the events from a calendar properly, but it requires that the calendar event have a time-zone specified.  If you create a calendar event in Google or from an Apple device, it doesn't set the time-zone for the event.  I discovered this while using a third party application that adds events without them turning to GMT.  When it adds them, it specifies the time-zone for the event, causing there to be no issue.  If you specify a time-zone in Google when creating the event, it also has no issue.

Does anyone know how to make Google automatically set a time-zone for events?

I prefer Klonipin. But it looks like I just solved this problem. When I looked at the time zone it said GMT. I x'ed it out. It gave me a search option. I put in New York. It seems to be working now. I don't know if this will help anyone but I hope so. It seems too easy, doesn't it? Take the Klonipin/Xanax anyway before you try it. BTW I have an iphone 4s. Don't know if this makes a difference.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Nick Saylor 02/02/15 10:28
That will correct the issue for that single event. You will still have the issue with every new event created.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Scoobaru 02/02/15 18:45
From what I've been told the Apple software team is saying that it's a problem with Google's servers storing their calendars in GMT time, and they do not have a current planed fix for it, they are marking it as "working as expected". Personally, I would start making appointments on a different system, I personally moved everything over to my exchange server and don't use Google Calendar for anything, just the e-mail.

I just did the update to my iPhone this morning to the iOS 8.1.3 and it appears that they did in fact fix the bug for GMT calendar events (gmail). I did several different tests on my phone (yes, it was isolated to my phone and iPad - not my Mac computer) and they all remained on my CST zone. What a rather frustrating last several months, but thankful that they seemed to have finally fixed the issue. Hopefully, everyone else is seeing the same results from the update! Thanks Jarrett Gorin for the helpful information (1/2/15)!!

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Jonathan Stauffer 03/02/15 12:24
This is fixed for me now in version IOS 8.1.3. It was not immediately fixed upon upgrading. I had to remove my gmail calendar from my iPhone and re-sync it in order to fix the issue. Go to Settings -> mail, contacts, calendars -> gmail account -> turn off Calendars. You'll be prompted with a message confirming that you want to remove/delete the calendar from your iPhone. Confirm yes -> turn the Calendar back on (i.e. set to green) and your calendar events will resync to the iPhone calendar. Now it's fixed. I don't see any GMT times and when I edit an event, everything shows up in my current time zone as expected.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Jonathan Stauffer 03/02/15 12:32
Note: My guess is that Google actually fixed this on their servers. Somebody just mentioned that this was now fixed on their calendar, but they had not upgraded their IOS. They were still on IOS version 8.1.1. This makes me believe that this wasn't really an Apple issue. Google must have fixed it on their servers. I'm just glad it was fixed. Thanks to all of you that raised this issue with Apple and Google.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line WonderMike 03/02/15 18:57
I upgraded to iOS 8.1.3 when it first came out and it didn't correct the GMT problem. Something happened today (or in the last day or so) to correct the problem. It appears that Google did something on their end to stop the GMT addition to Calendar events. I didn't have to reset, delete or resycnc anything. It just now works... as it has for the 4 years that I've had my iPhone.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Andrew Ciesielski 03/02/15 20:31
Absolutely and iOS 8 issue right? Obviously you were wrong and Google fixed this recently. People on various iOS versions are having resolution and after updated to iOS 8.1.3 it wasn't fixed right away. Dont be so dogmatic in here. We are just trying to give people info.
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line WonderMike 03/02/15 20:53
Umm, not sure why you are accusing me of being dogmatic. I'm stating fact and providing information. I've been following this issue over in the Apple Forums for several months now and it appears to be an iOS bug. I'm saying that Google did something to fix it, not Apple. At least that's what I believe based on not having the problem fixed by upgrading to the latest iOS.

Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Randy Saylor 10/02/15 19:54
I have found the answer...

My default location was PST instead of where I'm located at. To change your default location,
- Click on your name in the upper right corner
- Then icloud settings.
- Click the time zone link.
- Pick your time zone
- Click Done
- There is no save button, so close your browser and reopen. This saves the settings.

Issues go way (FINALLY)  Enjoy!

Assume I had set the start time of an event named "party" to 12 AM (GMT-05:00) EST, In my website if I click on the event name "party", It will redirect to a page where the event details is displayed. If a user is logged in to his gmail, then the event start time is shown as 12 AM. If a user is logged out from his gmail account, the event's start time is shown as 5 AM. ie., 5 hours ahead of the EST. Could you please let me know how to fix this?
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line bickerdyke 17/02/15 03:36
If available, events embedded in websites will be displayed in the VIEWERS timezone. (which is halfway sensible)

GMT is used, if the viewers timezone can't be determined (or guessed)
Re: calendar puts everything in GMT time on my iphone. NOT on google calendar on line Reena Buthello 17/02/15 04:25
Its a simple fix for this issue and it is that we need to append &ctz=America/Chicago to #URL# and now logged-out users see the correct timezone.

I have been having the same issue for months, and just figured out how to fix it.  I have many calendars on Google, one for each member of my family.  I noticed that only certain ones were coming up with the additional GMT time.  I fixed this issue by going into each individual calendar on my desktop, and checking the time zone. Low and behold there were some set up with only GMT, and not Central time.  So my fix was to change the time zone for each individula calendar, then delete the google calendar from each device and reinstall.  This will reset the ical with the new settings.  I hope this helps!

Apple's iOS 8.2 fixes the issue. Checkout the 5th bullet from the bottom in the attached release notes for iOS 8.2

I've been waiting about a year for this!!!

PS: I noticed it already fixed in 8.1.3 prior to updating to 8.2. Regardless, for me, it's gone. Hope you guys experience the same!
