Your Halloween doodle is offensive/insensitive to modern-day Wiccan Witches —Steve— 10/30/13 1:21 PM
Google,

I appreciate your effort to recognize Halloween and the traditional symbols associated with this pagan holy day-turned-Christian saint day, but the depiction of the witch as an old, ugly evil woman derives from Christianity and is quite frankly offensive to modern witches in Wiccanism and other neo-pagan movements. Refer to this recent article on CNN for further education:

The "how to defeat a witch" Easter Egg on the right-hand results page is also quite disheartening. As the boyfriend of a Wiccan witch, I'd rather not see her "defeated".

Something is always offensive to someone. Nobody can make anyone happy always. It is just a Doodle, an artistic approach to the Google logo. If it makes you feel better Good skipped the Easter Doodle this year and they put up a Doodle tribute to Caesar Chavez which most idiots thought was Hugo Chavez since they could not read and shows that here in America that we have low standards of education.

So sorry you are offended but nobody will ever be happy in this world.

wait until she dumps you, then you won't be offended any more.

Grew up with a pagan mother...

...calls herself a witch and would love this doodle.

Most pagans I have met have a pretty good sense of humor. Are you sure your girlfriend doesn't think it's no big deal; that she is aware of the difference between fictionalized folk-and-fable characters and the people who self classify as a 'wtich'?

A lot of pagans I know would also be offended at the implication that they are witches and find the entire 'wiccan' movement to be an offensive 20th century bastardization of many different and unique pagan cultures/practices. See how this goes? Everyone can be offended at everything. Your initial post could be seen as being full of offensive implications...

...but honestly, most people don't get hung up on finding things to be offended at and sort of, you know, move on with their lives.

So every witch costume, every movie, every TV show, every picture should be changed now so you wont cry? Every depiction ever created of a witch is an old, ugly evil woman! Give me a break. This is getting ridiculous!
