Massive SERP drops

Massive SERP drops vexx 9/4/13 3:26 AM
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.

We've noticed this morning that the site's rankings dropped significantly (about 80%). I've checked the manual actions in WMT for a penalty, nothing, I've searched for a major Google Algo update...nothing. I have no idea what's going one, especially that this site is 7 years old, the traffic before this major drop was about between 20k and 30k daily visitors. We've done 0 link spamming and the only thing I found wrong so far is that some spam websites copied our content in full. We've did several DMCA reports on that but that shouldn't be the problem of this major drop. We have no clue what to do.

Thanks.

Could have to do with your backlinks. 250K according to ahrefs:  https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer/overview/subdomains/filecluster.com  What kind of backlink building did you do?

I've just posted a thread as well. Looks like our sites are pretty similar. also having some issues with spam sites copying our content.

What a mess.

I haven't done anything in particular, most links are taken naturally, given by software developers. Usually we host our files on a 3-server solution (wordwide) and some developers hotlink to our download pages to use these mirrors. We, as a company, haven't done any type of link building for the past 3 years, not even forum signatures or other silly things like that. We always had a strong-ish backlink reputation, being a 7 year old site, imagine there was time.
Re: Massive SERP drops vexx 9/4/13 6:39 AM
We also have issues with sites duplicating our content and we can't keep up with them, there are just too many. Initially they copied our content but now they don't even bother, they copied our site in full, layout included, logo..etc. It's sad really, maybe we'll get some official explanation on this, at least so we have an idea of what's going on. Btw, how much do you estimate the traffic drop is on your part?

What terms have you dropped for?

I don't like the look of this, or you saying "We, as a company, haven't done any type of link building for the past 3 years"...

If it were me I'd be very nervously checking my strictest interpretation of these against the types of link in your backlink profile, as well of course as checking out my site structure, recent changes, server logs, site speed, etc etc.

Google on Unnatural Linking Schemes

Re: Massive SERP drops vexx 9/4/13 6:53 AM
Belive it or not, we did absolutely 0 linking schemes. The only "linking scheme" was emailing developers of recent product updates, reviews of their software(s) and other things like that. Some developers linked us, some didn't..it's just the way it went for the past 7 years. We aren't doing any link exchanges, we aren't using 3 way schemes..nothing of the sorts. The only bad thing I can thing of is the duplicate content...meaning that even if we have alot of reviews, news and original content, we still have alot of publisher descriptions and evidently, we're not the only site using those descriptions, since they are taken from the publisher's website. As for the site structure, changes, speed and server logs, we've already analysed those (and still are)...so far we found nothing wrong.
Re: Massive SERP drops stuckish 9/4/13 6:57 AM
We are down like 50% in Google Traffic. About 38% overall.

We have more or less ignored the sites that is copying our content. Figured that it would not be a problem for Google to figure out what is real or not.

Feel free to drop us an e-mail if you want. Always good to have some contacts with big sites in the same space. he...@alternativeto.net

Intent is very hard to divine, especially if you're just a big collection of hardware, so it's the perception that counts a lot of the time, and that's some curiously-co-ordinated anchor text across dozens of domains to have occurred 'organically', roughly-defined as 'independent of you and based on editorial opinion of the link poster only'.

I'm talking specifically about the 2nd and 3rd terms in my screenshot, btw.

I dont know about that MasterOfPuppets. So far most people have been very helpful here. Maybe its your negative and angry attitude getting in the way. We have a manual AND Algo penalty from 2.0 and we have been removing links and have seen an increase in ranking already. On of our main keyword "dog training collar(s)" that we had a lot of bad links with over optimized anchor text went from top 5 to 50 overnight on May 21 and since we have removed links are back up to 15 but just having trouble breaking top 10 with the manual action ...I think.

I also have a dealer in Australia that had a manual action and he got it removed and says his ranking is increasing ...sure, it took lots of work and 5 RR's to get it removed but he did it.

http://www.pet-super-store.com/pet-supplies/dog-training-collars/ - This is a competitor of mine who got SLAUGHTERED for unnatural links and dropped off into Google hell for the same search term and many more and now i see him back in the top 10!!! I'm very sorry to say!!! lol

so there is a couple documented cases for you right there ...

Don't worry man, she knows jackshit about SEO so she chooses to irritate others instead.

Advice: this is not the most ideal place to get your problems solved. Google doesn't want your organic search problems to get solved because then you won't spend on AdWords. :)
