Penalty revoked! Should I continue the fight or become a fisherman? Omoutop 10/9/13 4:51 PM
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.
My URL is: www.greeka.com

Hi,

I just had my penalty revoked 3 days ago. That was a hard one... 4 months of pain.
I read a lot now about "what happens next". Many people are complaining that, even after 8 months, they see no improvements in the serps.

I have updated my website few months ago and worked on texts for 2 years in order to have them well written and with a lot of information.
I have many ideas in order to improve the website and make it more interesting and more attractive.

But it is hard to stay optimistic with all that is said out there.
I am 70% down in sales and don't know how long I will be able to exist as an organized company in order to keep fighting.

Is there anybody who saw improvement of rankings after their penalty revoked? (with post penalty quality work of course)

Or should I change work, buy myself a small boat and become a fisherman in the beautiful Aegean?

Psychotherapy:
I am a bit frustated with all that. We were doing link exchange many years ago. But it is like the Tour de France. Everybody is doped. Someone started, and everybody else followed. It was the same with link exchange. All my competitors were doing it and had their websites in first positions. What should I do back then? Stay lost in serps and watch everybody else winning? Or wait 10 years till the Penguin update? Well, maybe I should had buy this little boat back then, at the first place...
I understand Google. And the are right about updating their algo this way. I made stupid things and I guess I have to pay for my sins. But seriously, if I don't get back in serps with the keyword "Greek islands" I will get really frustated. I mean, I have all the info about Greek islands while the actual serps gives crap results compare to what I offer. I mean, there is a CNN page in first page. I mean, can a single content page beat a website like www.greeka.com???

Anyway...

Many thanks

The thing to keep in mind that you were artificially ranking higher previously than you should have been because of the unnatural links. You no longer have the juice from those links, so there is not way you going to rank back where you were prior to the penalty as you have lost that link juice. UNLESS, you get more natural links.

Hi seo101, thanks for the answer.

Yes, I understand that. Of course. But is it all about links?
I mean, ok, good content brings links. So content does not count much to Google any more, as simple criteria?
Example:
A website A has 500 pages about X and 5 links back.
A website B has 10 pages about X and 100 links back.

Website B wins, right?

Now that I am nowhere to be found in Google, even if I create super content, who is going to find me and link at me?

What should I do, find websites in first page with an X keyword, check their back links and contact websites asking if they would be kind enough to link also at me? Why should they do that? Just because of my beautiful eyes?
What is natural in doing this?

Its been 3 days , yes links are accounted for in a Google search but there are over 200 other factors.

You are over thinking a simple problem....

Example:
A website A has 500 pages about X and 5 links back.
A website B has 10 pages about X and 100 links back.

What if Example A had 5 links, 1 from Harvard, 1 from Microsoft, 1 from US.gov, 1 from QueenElizabeth and 1 from Walmart

Example B has 100 links, 90 of them are from somerandomblog.com and 10 are from catp0rn.xxx

Who wins that battle?

Raw counts, page counts and who links who isn't something you can examine on the single site scale, you got to see the big picture.... and as BWB said, there are 200+ other factors to contend with.

Suggestion?  The penalty has been revoked. Move forward.  Stop focusing one factor and start building a better website.

I think there might still be some light at the end of the tunnel. Hows that?

Recently we helped a client to get a manual penalty revoked which worked out and about 40 days later suddenly and instantly his rankings have been re-instated with some extra boost in several keyterms.

There my advise would be to relax and go on working to achieve the best for your web site and your business.

If you are in a hurry, then your choice to be a fisherman would probably be a good idea.

I am not sure fishing is a good choice for those impatiently seeking results :)

Dear Webnauts, thanks much for your comment. Finally, some positive news.
But what have you done after the site was revoked? Just continue work on website as you usualy did or made extra work to find backlink etc?

Well, I am not in a hurry, just want to focuse on making my website a better world for users. But I wanted to know if my efforts will be rewarded or if I would be doomed for ever.

Hi Omoutop,

Its now been 6 weeks since your penalty was revoked have you seen any improvement? Do you think the penalty might have been masking a Penguin issue also?

Hope things have improved, I certainly feel your pain.

unfortunately there is no hope
because there is no case that gives hope :)

and what seo101 saying is bull crap that the parrots here keep saying :D

actually that is also mean that
u can rank churn and burn greatly with un natural links until get penalized and you can repeat the process

Well, good news people!
I am back in the serps! Not as before but it gets better every week.
And I see some amazingly good results some days, but the disappear few hours later.

The new version of my website was lauched in may 22nd, in the same time as Google latest major update.
So now I am readjusting pages, improving internal links and creating content on a daily basis.
