Wait a minute! Are guest blogging backlinks to be removed? DeonB 1/22/14 4:03 AM
A few months ago I deleted some backlinks I had created in forums and blog comments, and then disavowed them as well to be safe.
In my "good backlinks" list I have left the ones coming from blogs where I contributed a long time ago.

These are respectable blogs, but in these days I am questioning everything, so I am also questioning whether I should actually remove those links!

We are talking about 2-3 blogs (not many) that basically asked me for a version of an already published article of mine and they would link to me in the "bio" and in one occasions in the middle of the article.

One of these blogs nofollowed the link, but Im quite sure the other two dofollowed them.

Do you think I should get them removed or are they fine?
My instinct is now telling me I should get them removed but I am not sure about it.

Thanks
D.

Hi Deon,

It all depends on the purpose and quality (as well as obviously the quantity) of guest blog posts.

If you write guest posts in order to backlink and gain better search results, remove (or nofollow). If you indeed write a quality post (which may be a "version" of what you wrote before but make sure "version enough" not to create duplicate content) and there is a link (or two) in that post, I believe it's fine. If you have hundreds or thousands of "guest blog" posts, they are suspicious. First because they cannot be quality and original and second that you are more likely to do it as a link scheme.

2-3 guest blog posts will not hurt of course. Please, read this article by Matt Cutts (of Google) himself: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/guest-blogging/

Hey Gaieus thank you for your reply,

I think we are talking around 10 guest posts in total more or less (as said this was something I did around 15-18 months ago)

As said I'm not doing it anymore, it was just a period at the beginning of my blog. Thing is the guest posts are almost identical to the same post published on my site. For example sometimes I used to split the article in 2-3 parts on my site but I used to give the full length version to the other blogger, sometimes it was just 95% the same.

Among those guest posts I did, only 1 is really popular and it has been ranking 1st for many months (it's still on the first page on google now I think), it's an How-to article and my version ranks higher than its copies on other blogger's sites.

What should I do?
Should I get in touch with these bloggers and ask them to nofollow the link?
One of them is very unresponsive person, what if they don't reply? Should I disavow?

Thank you very much - that link is awesome.

Hi Gaieus,
do you think a link would help?

Thanks!
