I own an SEO company and I cannot get one site to rank?!?! Please Help Daddy Bear 4/22/14 7:20 PM
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.

I have been working on this mans website for about a year now. We have added several pages of unique content, we have added a product showcase links to each flooring category page and it still doesn't rank. In the past years we have been able to get every other website we have built to rank except for this one. Please give me some advice on what is wrong with this website! Would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!!!

So - you're getting paid to rank this site?

If you own an SEO company and you can't get one site to rank, then the best advice I can give you is to choose another profession.

Regarding what the client should have on the agenda:

1) Perform a little marketing, ethical and following proper Google Guidelines of course. The only backlinks to the site that I can find come from 2 sites, one being a web design company that still uses image maps that went out of style shortly after bell bottoms.

2) Get rid of the keyword stuffing. Yes, the footer is obvious keyword stuffing.

And in your meta keywords too. Any SEO should know that Google has ignored these for a while because of the tendency for people to stuff it madly.

3) Seriously improve the quality of the content on the site.

4) The navigation off the home page and for many areas is dizzying, multiple ways to get to the same pages on the same page and clicking launches new pages. Unnecessary and simplify the UI and keep it within one window.

5) Create more of your own content. It's rather embarrassing IMHO when you're crediting others in the metadata too.

At least the site's backlink profile is still clean. I try not to be too hard on people who come here for help, giving them the benefit of the doubt. But right now I'm seeing much doubt as this site conveys a lack of web design and SEO fundamentals. Here is some reading material.

Here's a clue on the home page
Keyword stuffing
 <meta name="keywords" content="aladdin carpets,aladdin carpet,flooring,floors,floor services,new floors,replacement floors,tile,
ceramic tile,porcelain tile,tile &amp; stone,tile flooring,hardwood,hardwood floors,hardwood flooring,laminate,laminate floors,
laminate flooring,carpet,carpet pad,carpets,carpet floors,carpet flooring,area rugs,rugs,mobile,semmes,wilmer,gulf shores,foley,
daphne,fairhope,prichard,spanish fort,satsuma,chickasaw,saraland,chunchula,chatom,cintronelle,al,alabama
">
<meta name="description" content="Aladdin Carpets Flooring Services in Mobile, Alabama provides elegant porcelain &amp; ceramic
tile flooring, carpet flooring, hardwood floors, laminate floors, vinyl resilient flooring and area rugs. Our flooring specialists
will help you select the right floor for your home or business. Call us today at 251-645-4522
">

And let's not overlook the fact it a little while to load the home page due to the clip at the top, which Google may punish as it is large and above the fold. (2 problems in one)

I was also called away... and was so distracted after seeing this site that I forgot to include the very important reminder that an SEO shouldn't be harming clients by creating sitewide dofollow accreditation backlinks back to their own website. In fact, the backlinks to this marketing website all appear to come from a whole host of dofollow links nailed to the footer of client sites -- and which should be nofollowed.

Check if possible the history of the domain. Whois shows 8 ownership record changes since 2001 and 3 changes on name servers over 7 years. Look in Webmaster Tools at all the data you can see there. Add just in case to WT both site URLs, with www and without www.

I found a lot of issues. Here are some:

1) Your domain Authority is only 1.
2) Total no. of backlinks: 1
3) Description meta tag is too long.
This tag contains 314 characters. This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' description. The maximum number of characters we recommend for this tag is 160.
4) Keywords meta tag contains too many keywords. This tag contains 37 keywords. This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' keywords tag. The maximum number of keywords we recommend for this tag is 20.

and many more. So, try to build some quality backlinks first. You can read more about how to build Contextual links for SEO here.

No, DO NOT do this, or at the very least not without ensuring that the links are nofollowed.

The irony of one SEO company giving incomplete advice to another SEO company while spamming a webmaster forum is exquisite.

Domain authority? I don't think there is such a thing at Google. But he is #1, which sounds impressive.

4) Keywords meta tag contains too many keywords. This tag contains 37 keywords. This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' keywords tag. The maximum number of keywords we recommend for this tag is 20.

This one is always a challenging issue. How many is too many? If you have 37 keywords, it might run the gamut and cover every synonym one can fathom for carpet cleaning. Then again, perhaps it might be best to cover even the long-longtail, since there would be little competition for the most rarely used keywords. On the other hand, too many cooks will spoil the soup. Difficult decisions. I recall something written by a Google employee almost 5 years ago on this very issue.

and many more. So, try to build some quality backlinks first. You can read more about how to build Contextual links for SEO here.

I glanced through the article at searchresultsmedia. They recommend reciprocal links. Hmmm... OwnerEditor recommends not to do this. I recall something Google had to say about reciprocal links too and it has been up for quite a while. You might want to share it.

The following are examples of link schemes which can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results:

Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links; exchanging goods or services for links; or sending someone a “free” product in exchange for them writing about it and including a link
Excessive link exchanges ("Link to me and I'll link to you") or partner pages exclusively for the sake of cross-linking
Re: I own an SEO company and I cannot get one site to rank?!?! Please Help Corruption Private 4/23/14 4:39 AM
The maximum number of keywords we recommend for this tag is 20.
That is only the number you recommend. I recommend only up to around 5. Some recommend none at all. Google is said to pay no attention to them in a positive way.

Then again, they are the competition, so the second one may be trying to stuff the first one up.

Yo, Daddy, take a Valium.  This forum is monitored by volunteers who gladly give of themselves trying to help others.  That said, you are being paid to assist the site owner.  So if you think about it, you benefit financially from the work of others who don't.   You received assistance when nobody had to do so.  Maybe you don't believe so, but I think a little snark is fair payback in such situations.

Well then, Swift web, can you open your own thread?

Dropping links on another thread is really not a good seo strategy and shows you really have NOT stopped the link building process.

Use the Post a Question button to start a new thread and use a link shortener, if you like.

And don't link drop in Blogger forum  when you do not have a Blogger blog

Dear Daddy Bear,

Well, as per my experience SEO has changed a lot nowadays and you need to be very cautious while doing SEO for any project. In today's SEO world- On page work is the most important and if your website is good in all aspects of this , then you can easily rank. This website misses the basics of this factor and that's the reason it's not ranking. My friends in this forum have already explained every detail of it and adding to that I would add some points such as below:

1. The website loading time is slow and you need to work on it. Google and users loves the websites which loads faster.
2. The website is not optimized for small devices such as mobile, tablets etc. I guess you also know that the ratio of small device users are increasing day by day and it's becoming a must for making a website small device friendly. Try to make the website RESPONSIVE
3. Call to Actions are missing along with the conversion forms.
4. Promote your website on Social Media and take the advantage of it.
5. Make profiles of Google Places, FourSquare, yelp etc.
6. Be careful. Your website without www doesn't redirect to www (or the opposite). It is duplicate content
7. The Page text to HTMl ratio is below 15%, that means that your website probably needs more content.
8. The website slider is of Flash which cannot be properly indexed by search engines and I would recommend using Javascript in this place.
9. The website is not having a Blog. In this tough and competitive internet marketing world Content Marketing rules, while publishing content on another website might be a good strategy, publishing it on your site garners more benefits.
10. The website is not having 404 Error Page, add a beautiful and helpful 404 Error Page to increase user retention.
11. The website needs W3C validation
12. Sorry to say, but the design and content quality is too poor. Need to work on that part too.
13. Why the domain extension is .net - when you are optimizing it for Alabama.

Once you are done with fixing the On page issues, check the progress of the project in terms of Traffic and rankings after 10-15 days and then start the quality link building process.

You can also learn about the ways of quality link building from this Hubpage http://amitkumarr.hubpages.com/hub/What-is-Link-Building-and-How-doing-it-Effectively)

Link dropping on a Google forum  to your own site is always Spam.

Dear Travler,

While posting the link of Hubpage I had this in mind that it is not a good practice and my seniors can think it in a negative way and I really understand this point. I gave this link to help Daddy Bear and I have no such intentions of getting any traffic from here. I only follow and do quality work and believe me, I gave this link for educational purpose, even this Hub post is an educational one and not related to any other means.

Thanks for the feedback and I will take care of it certainly from the next time. I too hate SPAM.

OK, I'll bite MR. SEO.

Tell me, you mention building backlinks to high domain authority sites. Tell me, what role does Domain Authority play in building PageRank?
Re: I own an SEO company and I cannot get one site to rank?!?! Please Help Amitkrr 5/1/14 7:57 AM
Dear Lysis,

Yes, I have advised making links from high DA sites since Domain Authority is used to know the credibility of a particular blog or website. It determines whether a blog is trustworthy or not. A good domain authority score means, your blog is quality and trustworthy. Search Engines would always prefer a blog with a better domain authority in their search results.

Do you have any queries on it, or do you think DA is not important.

Amit

Dear Lysis,

Domain Authority is nothing but how popular and how trustworthy is your website . Here popularity means how old is your website and how many external links are pointing to your website.

Domain Authority is directly linked to Google Page Rank because inbound link popularity is one of the factors influencing Google Page Rank.

We are talking about which content is trustworthy and who is an authority. That's the issue --  Let's say you're looking for a home remedy to treat a bad open wound that is bleeding. You see a couple of pages in the SERPs that provide you with instructions on how to treat this wound.

Which article would you trust most to treat your wound?
Which site would you be least likely to trust?

(A) An article on the personal website of a college student you don't know, who says he is enrolled in a pre-med program, which has a couple of backlinks from a mixture of websites, including some medical websites and doctors.

(B) An article written by a certified doctor on the official website of a large medical school in your city, which has a couple of backlinks from other medical websites.

(C) An article page on Hubpages that was created by some unknown guy (probably an SEO) that has 10,000 dofollow backlinks from link directories, article directories and social bookmarking sites, some of which are "high PR."

Explain your answer as to why you would or would likely not trust the information on how to treat your injury from these sites.

>I would be trusting the article (B) - since the information is given by someone in that field having experience on the subject matter.

And yet the site you trust most, may have the lowest "domain authority" because it is new or has few backlinks
Re: I own an SEO company and I cannot get one site to rank?!?! Please Help Ashley 5/1/14 11:27 PM
Domain Authority is directly linked to Google Page Rank because inbound link popularity is one of the factors influencing Google Page Rank.

What? Where are you getting this information?!

Domain Rank has NOTHING to do with Google. It's an invention from other idle SEO people. That's it. It's speculation and nothing more.
Re: I own an SEO company and I cannot get one site to rank?!?! Please Help black belt 5/2/14 11:21 AM
Amit - agreed. And chances are that such a page like (B) will accumulate many natural backlinks as it's from a recognized and reliable source. People reading the article will quote/cite it in their own articles. The backlinks generated to the article from all these unbiased people and its characteristics are natural signs that real unbiased humans have determined that the article is legit and valuable. Google's algorithm tries to identify how this works with its algorithm.

So what are you suggesting? Your article suggests that you know how to create a backlink pattern that will fool Google's algorithm into thinking that the all the backlinks to some article is the behavior of unbiased people and not some rank seeking SEO. It blatantly disregards many rules such as when to use a nofollow link. And any loopholes mentioned that may have worked have long since been plugged by some smart people at Google. So when a site owner follows the advice of a Hubpages article that has numerous meaningless backlinks from link and article directories with "high DA", the reward is frequently a long manual action aka "penalty" in addition to any result the algorithm feels is deserving. And we get to chat with those folks here.

Dear Black Belt,

Much Appreciated for the feedback. I am yet to becomes so experienced like you and to get a justified answer like this one will certainly help. Whatever I got to learn from other forums and blogs I have explained there and in terms of doing link building I do not focus so much on that part and rather focus on the On page factors for which I have given the recommendations too- I would request you to look into that part too and explain me if there are any loopholes there.

My Hubpage does not have any backlink from any website as I didn't feel promoting it by link building. I just try to give and put information which I learn without any personal benefits. I just want to be educated and educate others by learning. I have been in this industry and have seen Google giving importance and rankings to websites which do not deserve to be in rankings while other quality websites suffers dues to this, but then also I follow only quality guidelines but sometimes the clients for whom we work goes to the other vendors who gets them in rankings with other means of work - at this moment we can't understand how strong the Google algorithm is and how it plays.

If you go to google.co.in and search for the query " Hair Transplant In Kolkata", you will get results that you will not want to see. Most of the rankings are occupied by a 1 page site serving no information as such - but they are still ruling the SERPs. I am a bit amazed to see that for quite a few months and was in the hope that it will be caught by Google, but still those websites are on TOP?

Is the Algorithm so weak that anyone can rank with anything?

I have learnt many things here from you and love to be apart of this forum. The idea is to learn and explore. Suggest me if I do not deserve to be in this forum please,

Regards
Amit
