|The new Google Maps — full 3D and Lite mode||Daniel - Community Manager||3/6/14 3:52 PM|
Hello Maps Community,
We’ve seen that several of you are experiencing switching between the full version of the new Google Maps and Lite mode. Depending on your system, Google Maps may automatically switch to Lite mode. If you’d like to manually switch to a specific mode, you can try opening the following URLs on your browser.
If you meet all the system requirements and are still experiencing issues accessing the full 3D version, try restarting your browser. If that doesn't do the trick, submit feedback by clicking the question mark in the bottom right corner of the map. Please include your GPU information (if on Chrome, enter “about:gpu” into the address bar) and "#gpu1" in your feedback report. If you're comfortable sharing your GPU information here, please include.
We will not be able to reply to everything, but the information you provide will help us fix issues on a larger scale.

Hi Daniel as you know I am using two different Chromebooks (an older one ~ 2 years old and a newer one ~half year old)
Both CB's run under the latest Chrome - I nevertheless get always this message "We’re sorry, only the lite mode of the new Google Maps is available at this time" even if using the webGL link https://www.google.com/maps/preview/?force=webgl
Are you interested to get the GPU details of both CB's?

Are either of your Chromebooks using intel CPUs? If so, then yes, please provide the GPU information via the feedback button. You can also include it here if you don't mind others seeing your GPU info.

thanks fro responding, Daniel
unfortunately I'm not a tech geek.
What I can tell you is this: on the older Samsung CB there is at the back side a pretty big sticker with a large Intel logo on it.
The other (newer) Samsung CB (as I brought it with me last fall from the US) doesn't seem having such an Intel logo
I can't indentify from the chrome OS "about:gpu" info any information regarding intel or not intel.
Therefore I will escalate both sets of information to you the way I'm using used to be.
Let me know in case you need more informations.

The only link which works for me is Classic and I'm on Windows 7 IE 11. The full version just freezes and the Lite mode has the animated cursor disjointed 30 degrees to the left or more of the mouse pointer which appears as a hand - and of course there's no 3D. This has only happened tonight and prior to that it was all working fine. What's going on?

I am using Chrome 33.0.1750.154 on Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, and I get the message that only the Lite Mode is available. However, if I go over to Firefox (27.0), it works just fine.

Stuck in lite mode on latest version of chrome.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460... no idea why all this appears to be stuck on software only mode:

Derp. I realized the issue moments after I typed it. The stupid menu bug a few months back had me disable hardware acceleration. Turned it back on and maps work now... hoping the menus don't bug out again, though

Is it possible to trigger the 3D view mode programmatically. I can it if I open maps.google.com and click the 'earth' mode.
I create a DIV, put my map inside, and then what...
Thanks for any pointer...

The situation I have is that if I go to maps.google.co.uk (-> www.google.co.uk/maps) I end up in LiteMode.
If I go to maps.google.com (-> www.google.com/maps) in the same browser session(!!!) I end up in full 3D mode.
Why?? How can I change this (as many links I am presented with use the co.uk address)..
This is Firefox30 on Linux.

The option to switch to classic mode is not working on Firefox on my machine. It is working on Chrome. That is, clicking on the black question mark circle does nothing. I can only get classic by using a URL (i.e., bookmark). I'm attentive to alternative mapping websites.

I switched from Full to Classic and now there's no way to switch back to Full. Is there any way to get back to full mode? Street view worked beautifully in Full mode, but Classic mode keeps telling me I need to upgrade my Flash to version 10. I've upgraded my Flash and street view STILL won't work...in Classic mode. So I'm trying to get back to Full mode, but I can't. HALP!!!! There is a way to get to classic mode in full mode, but no way back. Frustrating.

Daniel, I have the opposite problem.
When I start Google Maps (maps.google.com), it starts in Lite Mode. This is correct, because 3D Mode hangs Chromium on my machine.
However, when I click on a map link, e.g. from my Google Calendar, it starts in 3D Mode — thereby hanging Chromium.
How can I force Maps to always start in Lite Mode, even when clicking from a link in, say, Calendar?
I am using Chromium version 37 on Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit. I've attached the GPU information as a file.

Why is it that, and I understand if you guys don't keep doing stuff like this or lose your job for being unproductive or unimaginative, but why does the entire industry insist on fixing things that were never broken? I mean as soon as everyone gets used to something, we like it, we're able to use it easily and well, that the creators come out with something new? Some beta version that still is in development and doesn't quite work very well yet, if at all?
I mean great! I get it! Your new version seems like the wave of the future and it's all exciting... to you! BUT IT DOESN'T WORK RIGHT. So everyone is stuck in this f'k'd up beta world that were in a dizzying learning curve that never stops! At this point, we're not sharing your enthusiasm- not . so . much...
Would it be so freakin hard to take a good program, like Google Maps and just make it work perfect and keep it working perfect? CAN YOU IMAGINE having a product so good nobody anywhere would even consider using anything else? Of course not silly question.
Well what I have now is a maps program that wont even load all the way- forget accuracy, I CANT SEE THE DAMN THING, and I like Google stuff... I am also losing patience with new updates ans stuff that never actually works 100% so get your heads out of your collective arses and don't keep giving us things that never quite works right.
For a company that's supposed to be the best place to work of all time in the galaxy you guys treat your public like crap, I'm guessing because you don't look at it that way which is sadly understandable.
TRUST ME- peple will be FINE just using a product that's always 100% and really, DON'T WE DESERVE BETTER???..

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I'm convinced nobody at Google cares. Hmmm... maybe that's why it's "best place to work of all time in the galaxy...." Collect your pay, ignore the customer.
