Version 3 old embed code is no longer compatible with Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Norah Shannon Medlin 3/10/13 5:28 PM
I encounter the following error when I attempt to play an embedded YouTube video in Microsoft PowerPoint: "To play the selected item, you must install a later version of the Adobe Flash Player. To download the Adobe Flash Player, go to the Adobe website."

I have located a workaround where I have to remove ";version=3" value from the movie parameter in order for this to play in Microsoft PowerPoint 2010.

I have also reported this to Microsoft.  Not sure if you are able/willing to provide a special checkbox and/or help page for Microsoft Office embeds?

Hi Norah,

I am getting the same error even if I paste your code in my PPT.

Any ideas why that might be happening.

It looks like this has changed again. I found that instead of removing the version I changed the 3 to 2 and it started working again.

I.e. make it say version=2 in both places where it says version=3 in the embed code.

FIX -is- BROKEN

Neither fix is working (keeps giving 'Cannot embed... check the code and try again' ERROR in PowerPoint 2010. Doesn't seem to matter what version# is used (or if version=3 is removed completely).

HELP!  I have L O T S of Users asking for help!  Thanks for your insights.

Yes, that works for me! Still need to change the version but also need to add http: to both URLs, because they now start with just //
