The still images photo shooter were fixed quite well on this update. However, now, the camcorder at night is very horrendous. It was far better before (4.4). Is Google aware?

Exactly, the camcorder image quality was so much better before. I wonder what happened.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/13/13 8:55 AM
The video doesn't pick up as much light as it used to

Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/13/13 10:18 AM
That's very true, I got a few videos to illustrate this. The camcorder does not take in as much light
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous LogicX64 12/13/13 10:30 AM
Yep, this problem is real!! Google really needs to fix this because people are going mad.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/13/13 10:54 AM
I hope Google does know about this problem and will fix it soon, good to know other people are having the same problem
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/13/13 1:26 PM
Indeed my friends, it's a very serious issue. It would be nice to get a case ticket or acknowledgement that it's being looked at.

This is hilarious. Whenever I decide to buy a Nexus 5 - yet another problem crops up to prevent my buying one. What the hell are you playing at Google?

I hope google fix this soon with a patch so the video picks up light as it did before
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/14/13 6:59 AM
I agree with you Bhaskar, I am still concerned because we have not gotten a response yet from a Googler.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/14/13 9:05 AM
Is this the only way we can report a bug?
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Adrian Aiello 12/14/13 10:01 AM
Yep I've posted about this before,It's almost pitch black in low light but there was nothing wrong with the video in 4.4,I have no idea why Google have messed about with the video! and they still haven't fixed the noise cancellation issue in phone calls and the audio in recorded videos in quiet environments.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous choban 12/14/13 10:32 AM
It seems that if you toggle between those modes and come back to camcorder, this exposure problem will be fixed. But did anyone noticed that camcorder 720p and 1080p modes are stretching the picture way too much?! Only SD mode looks normal.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/14/13 11:34 AM
Toggle between which modes? 720p and 1080p?
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous choban 12/14/13 12:40 PM
If you want to "fix" camcorder exposure bug, toggle between camera modes (eg. camera, Photo sphere, panorama) and then toggle back to camcorder. For that stretching video mode problem, toggle between 720p/1080p and SD modes (eg. if you toggle from 1080p to SD and back to 1080p video will not be as stretched as before - but still more stretched than SD mode which seems like the best ratio)...

I didnt notice that

Still waiting for google to fix the video on nexus 5..so it picks up as much light as it used to
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous choban 12/14/13 2:50 PM
Here are my final findings.

I said before that if you toggle between camera modes and then choose camcorder mode, underexposure will be "fixed". Unfortunately that is not entirely true,
It does fix underexposure but it is also stretching video in landscape mode and "shrinking" it in portrait mode, but one more thing to note is that this is only in "preview" mode, and as soon as you press record button, it reverts back to normal camcorder with underexposure issue. So basically there is no fix for now, only more bugs and glitches...

Can anyone confirm this?
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous LV23 12/15/13 2:43 AM
I can confirm this. The recording is black.

That's Google experience. They fix one thing just to break another.

I guess we have to hope google makes a patch for this soon
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/15/13 11:07 AM
They haven't even acknowledged that it is a problem.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/15/13 4:17 PM
They haven't even acknowledged that it is a problem.

How do we get Google to acknowledge this as a bug?
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/15/13 4:26 PM
I believe that this should be the place to report issues.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/16/13 1:53 AM
Ok, I hope Google looks at this.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/17/13 3:10 AM
Still waiting for Google to look into this problem
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Paul 12/17/13 10:36 AM
Hi everyone,

Thanks for letting us know about your experiences with the exposure level during while recording video with Android 4.2.2. We're going to reach out to a few of you directly via email to request some additional bug report data. Please do not post bug reporting data in this community; it may contain some personal information that you might not be comfortable sharing in a public forum.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/17/13 11:10 AM
Thank you Paul for your response. Please also know that this is for 4.4.2 not 4.2.2. Thanks!
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/17/13 4:24 PM
what Fulaman1984 said, the problem is on android 4.4.2

Hopefully the fix shouldn't take long because it worked fine before on android 4.4
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/17/13 4:48 PM
Exactly Bhaskar, hopefully it's something that they can fix before January.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/17/13 5:41 PM
It would be nice to have it fixed sooner
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/17/13 5:43 PM
I agree but we are already past halfway though the month of December.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/18/13 1:28 AM

Google should of checked before releasing the update, I think a patch would sort it out
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 12/19/13 3:42 AM
I was hoping Google would make a quick patch for this....
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 12/19/13 6:09 AM
Right now, they are collecting bug reports in regards to the issue.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Ryan MacKay 12/29/13 8:38 PM
I'm having the same issue with under exposed video after 4.4.2. Is there plans to remedy this?
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous bhaskar2 1/2/14 4:35 AM
I hope it gets fixed this month
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Fulaman1984 1/2/14 8:25 AM
Did they request from you to submit a bug report? They did for me.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Ryan MacKay 1/2/14 8:35 AM
I was not requested to send a bug report. Camera works fine...it does not crash but the video quality in low light is way worse than running 4.4. I hope they fix this.

On video mode, focus with flash is terrible. I have to wait 30 seconds to focus... If any time do it!!!

Videos shot outdoors on nexus 5 with 4.4.2 are too dark, even if there enough light. Videos become more dark than actually was while capturing them.
They are barely visible.
And for wishes, better if google adds tap to autofocus feature in movie mode instead of capturing photo.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Nabeel Murtaza 1/30/14 3:22 AM
I have the same exact problem with my nexus 5 but curiously I had the same problem on my nexus 7 2013 android 4.3. once I upgraded to kitkat the camera issue was completely eradicated and there was no issue. so this leads me to believe that google has seen the bug before and have fixed it so i'm just wondering what is taking so long.

Hi Fulaman1984,

I reported the issue here: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=66573 because it's a really big problem for me, when I want to film, it's always in low light (a live concert of music for example) and the result is really a pity.

Thank you for your report
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Robert Crockett 3/5/14 10:12 AM
I also have this issue. The autofocus is terrible.
Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous David Ghirimoldi 3/5/14 11:15 AM
Yes I have the same problem. Videos are a lot darker than photos. Hope in a fix.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous VARUN CHUGH 3/6/14 5:35 PM
It has been long time and so many bugs are there in the camcorder like the low exposure in low lighting, hiss/static noise and the battery sucking bug. when do you plan to bring an update.Till now all you say is we are investigating. we want at least a bug fixing update now. It has been almost 3 months and if u r planning to bring the maintenance update on google I/O, I am highly disappointed. Even oem make sure to fix their bugs asap.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous Nabeel Murtaza 3/8/14 5:39 PM
I've had this problem for a while now and as I am going to a concert and would like to record some of it i've had to downgrade back to android 4.4. I'm going to stay with this until google will release a fix that is if they release a fix.
Re: Camcorder after 4.4.2 update looks horrendous TurboChan 3/27/14 6:32 PM
Paul, can we get an update? It's been 3 months of not being able to shoot videos indoors. Kinda ridiculous. Does no one at Google using an N5 shoot videos indoors or something? Thanks.
