|chrome youtube "An error occurred, please try again later"||Kevin06||10/23/10 7:45 AM|
I have tried for the last hour to paw through the various answers to this problem on the forum. Things that have worked for others, do not work for me. I have cleared everything. I ran uninstaller for Adobe Flash, but couldn't get it to uninstall from Chrome. I searched regedit for www.youtube.com. I rebooted. I can't find cookie control in Chrome. I don't think I should have to enable 3rd party cookies as one answer suggested.
There is no consensus as to what causes this error; instead there are so many answers it would take a day just to go through and try all of them, which I may be desperate enough to do anyway. I enabled java script window, but get an error, even when I'm sitting at my home page.
Win XP Pro SP 3 running Chrome against any youtube video while on youtube site shows the clocklike thing and very shortly thereafter, "An error occurred, please try again later".
No system changes recently. I can run youtube videos in my Explorer extension (mimics Explorer within Chrome) without problem.
I'm wondering if I uninstall chrome can reinstall, would that fix it? I will try that as last resort.
Could use your help/time/advice/insight. Thanks!

Well, I solved it. After getting fed up with all the solutions that didn't work, I copied my bookmarks folder and then un-installed Chrome. And then re-installed Chrome. Now I can successfully view youtube.com videos once again. I want to thank you for all your help. It really warms my heart that I can go to the forums like this and get help.

Note 1: Chrome returns to the same behavior if you copy the entire contents of the default folder where bookmarks live. If you limit your copy to the bookmarks file alone, which you previously saved, back into the bookmarks folder (chrome probably should be off at this point), your bookmarks will work and be ordered as expected. No reboot of O/S is required, by the way.

Note 2: Bookmarks live here:
C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default

This solution worked a treat - one word of note.
If you quit Chrome, and rename your whole default folder to something else (e.g. default-broken) and reload Chrome it'll create a new one for you - no need to uninstall and reinstall Chrome - just make sure you quit Chrome before renaming the default folder.

I think its due to one of the preference settings, just get rid of your preference file and it works file.

The preference settings file appears to be the culprit. Remove it and YouTube works.

Where is the preference file located and what changes would it make to Chrome upon deleting it?

Alright guys, after some experimenting I found that clearing out my browser data worked, not sure why it never worked before. Also I have FlashBlock add-on installed but YouTube is on the whitelist. I cleared the browser data in both Chrome and Firefox and both times it fixed the problem. It may be a different answer for each person depending how their browser configuration is set up and what third-party add-ons/extensions they are using, but try to clear the cache/data and restart your browser. The try to play a YouTube video again. Worked for me. BTW I deleted everything except Passwords.
