Don't use Internet Explorer, use Firefox or Chrome. Internet Explorer is junk, and only 12% of people use it now.

Sorry, but it's not 2005 any more. IE is faster and smoother than Chrome and has much better touch zooming capability.

I'll stick to Google chrome for youtube and stuff. I'll use IE11 for putlocker or veoh.com or dailymotion even hulu probably-but I agree Chrome is way better than IE. I had to deal with chrome once with the annoying spellcheck redlines until they fix it-SO until an update or Abode flash player 12 official comes out then it should be alright.

I to have the issue with IE 11 in windows 8.1 Pro. Here is how I fixed this issue and so far it worked for me...
1)Go to "Tools>manage Add-ons"
2) Under the "Show:" change the dropdown to "Run Without Permissions" (see addon1 pic)
3) Disable "Shockwave ActiveX Control" (see addon2 pic)
4) Go to "Tools>Safety" and click "ActiveX Filtering" (should have a check mark when enable)
You will see a "You will need to update your Adobe Flash player to watch this video - Download it from Adobe" on YouTube Home Page....ignore it. Have not had it freeze up yet and can play all video's so far...

Ignoring everyone engaged in the browser fight, I added youtube.com to my compatibility settings and downloaded and installed flash player 12 but when I go to the YouTube homepage after a second or two it just stops responding. IE still works fine and I can navigate to another webpage but YouTube simply stops responding and I don't understand why.

I tried it and it's not working for me.

This works great.
Manage add ins, show all add ins, shock wave disable.
Btw these google groups are the worst. What a crappy interface.

Once again, I will say not to use IE. It's garbage and all you Windows fanboys are just upset.

You realize what you are saying does not help, right? Not everyone thinks IE is horrible or that FF/Chrome are better.
I could go into reasons why IE is better but the truth is, it doesn't matter.
So next time, if you do not have a solution then don't post as it does not help anyone.

I'm not into the browser fight, but I found resolution by adding the particular site which was not displaying their YouTube videos (embedded in their pages) by adding the site to the compatibility settings. instructions are here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11. Hope this helps someone.
