|Sorry, your birth year (1890) is ineligible for a YouTube account.||stjamespdx||6/18/12 11:16 AM|
I recently submitted an application to Google for Nonprofits for St. James Lutheran Church, which was founded in 1890. I used the founding date of the church as the "birthday" in the application form. I was able to set up a Gmail account with no problem. However, when I tried to sign in to YouTube in order to set up an account there, I received this error message:
"Sorry, your birth year (1890) is ineligible for a YouTube account."
I submitted a bug report immediately (on May 30th) ---- but I never received any reply. When I tried to get help via phone at 1-650-253-0000, I was told that YouTube does not offer any customer support and I was referred to this YouTube for Non-Profits group. Is there someone out there who can help me resolve this problem? I am launching a new website for St. James soon and I would really like to be able to create a YouTube channel in order to post some video. PLEASE HELP!

Youtube's 'date of birth' section only works in 100 year increments, so 1890 won't work (actually, youtube's date of birth section for channels was always intended as the birth date of an individual, not a founding date of an organization, in fact, the only thing the age accomplishes is whetehr or not you are 1) old enough to be on youtube, and 2) old enough to watch age-restricted videos).
When creating your youtube channel Just input your (personal/individual) birth date, then when the channel opens, you can hide it so the date/age never displays. Then in your channel 'about us' section can you type in that your church was founded 1890.

I just got a reply from Mike at YouTube Nonprofit ---
Mike confirmed that this is indeed a bug and he added that:
"You can't create an account if we detect your birth date was in the 19th century. :)" He then suggested that I set up another account, which I had already done ... following your advice.
I simply changed the "birthday" to 1990 and had no problems setting up a channel.
So, I thank you again for your prescient advice.

What about those of us who have managed an organization's channel for years (with dozens of published videos) with a 19th century "birth" date who are only now blocked from entering our own channel?
How do we resolve this issue?

I don't see how it would have been possible to use a nineteenth Century birth date in the first place. That STILL would have been over a hundred years old when YouTube started in 2005.
If you managed it somehow, and they disabled your active channel for an ineligible date of birth, you will have to start over. There is NO option to alter the date provided when the channel was created. They require the birth date of the person creating the channel for policy and, more importantly, legal reasons. The day you were born does not change, and neither can the date you provided to YouTube when the channel was created.
