|The 'Get Started' link, broken?||TotallyNotMikey||5/24/12 11:31 AM|
I started monetizing before the YouTube Partner program became easily accessible. Every time i click the link to Get Started, (http://www.youtube.com/account_monetization?referrer=creator) I just get sent to the monetizing confirmation page, with the message 'To become a YouTube Partner and access promotional and skill-building opportunities, you must have at least one video approved for monetization. Learn more.'. Anyone else know a way around this?

This happens to me. I tried to become a partner for fun 3 months ago. Now I can't try to become one again when I actually have subscribres.

It's not clear what the issue is: Monetize a video and YOU ARE A PARTNER. Period. Done. You're in.
Now, do you automatically get all the features you used to get when you had to jump through a bunch of hoops to become a partner? No, you don't. At least, not yet.

No actually that's not true. That means your account is enabled for monetization you are not a partner. A partner can change the thumbnail for their images, embed links in the background of the channel and much more. To become a partner all you need is to have a lot of viewers and subscribers and request for it.

No, actually that's not true.
On April 12th YouTube completely changed the partner program. The old "full" partner program, the one you are talking about, has been retired. It no longer exists.
Now, all you do is monetize a video and you are a partner. The additional features you are speaking of do not exist. New partners are getting some features, like the store, scheduled uploads, sometime soon custom thumbnails. There is no mention of channel banners being offered.

Yea they actually do. A very close friend of mind has all custom thumbnails because he is a partner. And his channel has a specific background where he can put links on it.

Read this official statement: http://youtubecreator.blogspot.com/2012/04/being-youtube-creator-just-got-even.html
At this time, the only way for new partners to get the old features is to join a network.

The custom thumbnails is not changed for old partners you liar. It is just now everyone is a partner. Btw i found that by myself.

I said the partner program changed on April 12th. The old full partner program was retired and the new partner program started. New partners do not get all the features from before.
I never said anything about old partners. Old partners retain the features they had.

Several new partners reported custom thumbnails in the forum.
I got almost all old partners features apart form custom thumbnails and banners.
It seems that if you generate relatively high volume and good quality traffic you will get almost all extras apart form banners within the next few months.

The users who've posted here (and that I've read), who say they got custom thumbnails, also mentioned they have high volume videos, so I think you're right, they're rolling it out based on channel activity, for now.
