Hi everyone,
In August, we launched the new monetization icons and appeals process so that you would have more transparency into how each and every video on your channel is monetizing. This system uses machine learning to apply a green icon (fully monetized) or a yellow icon (limited or no ads) to your videos and offers you the ability to appeal if you think a video is misclassified. Appeals receive a human review and those decisions help the system get smarter over time.
Since August, over a million human reviews have helped train and improve this technology and today, we’re releasing an important update that will result in fewer misclassifications overall. As a result, there will be a 30 percent reduction in the number of videos receiving limited ads as they move to being fully monetized. In other words, millions more videos will become fully monetized.
We will begin this update today at 2:30pm PT, and it will be complete by 2:30am PT tomorrow. For your channel, you may see icons that were previously yellow turn to green. You may also see icons that were previously green turn to yellow–this updated system is an improvement, but it’s not perfect. We know there’s much more work to do, so if you feel the yellow icon is a mistake, please continue to appeal.
Please note, the status of videos already manually reviewed prior to this update will not change.
Today’s performance improvement update was only possible because of the feedback you gave to the system through the appeals process. As we continue to make improvements, we’ll keep you updated on changes. The creator community is incredibly important to YouTube and we’re grateful for your patience as we’ve worked to make our systems better, bring advertisers back to the platform and push updates that help protect your revenue.

Will the appeal system be updated so it doesn't discriminate against smaller channels?
Thank you. :) This makes me happy but I hope that this will help keep improving.
Will you finally eliminate the appeal restrictions to allow smaller channels to appeal as well? This is YOUR broken flagging system. At least give us the ability to properly file reports in cases where it appears that the machine is once again running rampant.
Maybe you should actually stop giving larger youtubers free passes and stops discriminating against smaller youtubers before trying to bandaid a broken system that you guys use as an excuse to do this in the first place.
This is good and all, but really, Youtube, when are you going to wake up and realise what a truly horrible paltform you are for small channels like mine?
Also, get rid of that 'we'll review your video after it;s got 1,000 views' stipulation. One of my videos got demonetized a couple of weeks ago, and it's one that has been up for months, amassing just 500 views. I have to wait god only knows how long now before you guys review it to decide whether I can have it remonetized. And as far as I can tell, it's only been tagged because it has the word 'dirty' in the title. Because your automatic demonetization bot is as broken.It's a matter of time before somebody attempts to sue you guys for loss of earnings due to a situation like this. Get your shit together before we all jump ship to vid.me.
So let me get this straight. With the new changes, according to the new appeal process, people need 10k subs to appeal now? Are you flipping serious? Did you want to kill any and all channels trying to grow? I just hit the 5k landmark, make a couple hundred subs a month. And you now do this? REALLY!?
Lokim, the 10k subs review is only for review while the video is not yet published; it's been in place for most of the duration of the appeals process. You can still review if your video has > 1000 views in the last 7 days as well.

Please bring back the notify subscribers. The new notifications (users subscribing to the channel have to click a bell) is killing our small channels. Also, can you spread the wealth in youtube, rather than serve the same videos over and over to everyone at the expense of other videos like mine, you can diversify what is shown in search results. This is killing us. We all produce content in hopes of making money (why we monetize in the first place) and to not make money after almost 2 years is just discouraging. Before the notification fiasco my channel was steadily growing and now with the new algorithms it is pretty much dead. Diversification of results (to give equal opportunity) and to notify subscribers and have them OPT OUT of notifications rather than opt-in.
Youtube was supposed to be a platform that gives every creative person an opportunity but instead it has become about youtube red and big channels. It is totally unfair against smaller channels like mine!
I have less than 1K subs so there is no hope for us with small channels.

I have more than 10k suscribers and one of my flagged videos (just a family-friendly tutorial) is still pendig of revision since a month ago. Instead, all my others flagged videos gets appealed within 24 hours...

I hadn’t even heard of the new system until this latest update, and my two newest videos were flagged with the yellow $. I have >10k subscribers and have been averaging 200,000 views every 48 hours recently. The newest uploads – the ones that got flagged – are materially no different (content, thumbnail, tags or otherwise) than the prior videos. This is a wacky system and it’s hard to play guinea pig as a small content creator when our income is on the line.

And you couldn't have done the training BEFORE going live and screwing people over? You couldn't have taken a random sampling of videos over the course of several months to feed your algorithm, then simulate it flagging videos followed by those videos being appealed/reviewed to teach it? Oh wait! That would have cost YOU money rather than the content creators.
During your growing pains with this system the process should include a "this looks like a flag due to a bug" option rather than a regular appeal. My channel is, by and large, just racing videos from an online racing simulator service. I've been getting videos flagged for no apparent reason on videos that are nothing more than race coverage of simulated online races. (Video games, in non-sim speak.) It's pretty rare that anyone even speaks, nevermind curses, so language can't be what's causing flags to wave. And it's not content that could violate any other advertiser-friendly agreement/terms, either, that I can see. But seeing as how most of my viewers are likely to actually be people who raced in these races, which is always fewer than 40 people, I will never hit that 1000 views in 7 days mark in order to actually be able to successfully appeal. And don't get me wrong, I'm not making any money here from those videos and such a small number of views, haha, I know this. But the system isn't working as well as it could be, but it feels like I can't even help make it work better because the channel is too small.

Before this update I did not have a problem with de-monetization. Literally, none of my videos were marked with yellow monetization icons. I have three channels: +30k subscribers, +10k subscribers, +4k subscribers. Since yesterday, I have three videos that have been de-monetizated. Good job youtube
Question: Is 30% improvement supposed to be praiseworthy? It still mean 70% are stuck in purgatory. If you think this is something to be proud of, you need to raise your standards significantly. This is pathetic. But anything to force more content creators onto YT Red, right?

NO, a 30% improvement is NOT praiseworthy. In any sense. And YES, the demonetization process is broken. At this rate, I can see somebody suing Youtube in the near future for loss of earnings - over a few pennies.Great news!

Demonetizing videos did cost them money, because it meant less ads were shown, which meant less money from advertisers.
PragerU actually is suing YouTube because their educational videos are being demonetized.
@Youtube, do you still want creators to use youtube to make money? Your algorithm says no, you don't want any new creators.
You do realize that appealing is much harder when these limited ads are turned on? Videos get much less views than fully monetised so the 1000 views in 7 days mark is much harder to do.

So, my videos have the yellow icon as soon as they go up.
Nothing in them is anywhere near outside the terms etc.
But since my channel is small, I might not get to over 1000 on many of the videos, which means that I will never get anything out of any of my videos.
It would be helpful to know why it is marked with the yellow icon, rather than being told that I violated something that I didn't and not know what that thing is.
Any advice?

Everything that i uploaded yesterday has been flagged, the youtube "bot" is clearly broken. I do not have the amount of subscribers or views required for reviews so this will never be addressed on my channel. Good luck to all future youtubers, its all downhill from here.
Are you experiencing videos getting flagged indiscriminately? like every video is flagged regardless of what type of video or regardless of what you ssy?
You've demonetised my 4 out of the last 5 uploads. 3 of them were documenting my wedding engagement, I can't think of many things more family friend and ad safe than getting engaged.
Ironically, looking at these videos on other Macs, I can see that ads are running on them, so does that mean that even when I am penalised with demonetisation, YouTube still are able to make revenue, because that smells very dodgy if so...?
Can we appeal a manually reviewed video? We see no reason why it was still rejected after a manual review when some of our other more scandalous videos were manually reviewed and approved. It seems arbitrary. And why does Kathy Griffin's video where she gives out a cell phone number allowed to have monetization?

I wanted to update from my point of view.
2 of my videos got flagged immediately and said that they wouldn't be reviewed if under 1000 views per week.
But I appealed them anyway and they have both been changed.
So, it looks like Google is trying to help.
I am guessing it is a learning process still for Google too.
So, my advice is to submit for a manual review anyway and see if they change it.
Before the update I had two cat videos with yellow icon. Now I have six. My main channel is small. All five yellow icon videos have less than 1000 views and I have less than 10k subs.
What is going on in Youtube? Is a cat video inappropriate now? Four videos which got yellow icons are about cats having friendly fights. For people who don't know, cats like to play fight with each other. No blood, no NSFW stuff, no torture. Just funny videos! My last upload got a yellow icon too and the video is about cats resting. We understand it can be frustrating to see the yellow icons. Make sure you've reviewed our advertiser-friendly content guidelines, not just for the content of the video but also for the title, description, thumbnail and tags. If you make adjustments to the title, description or thumbnail, the system will take another look at the video within 24 hours (without having to request a manual review).
Will you finally eliminate the appeal restrictions?
Because we’re a platform that has hundreds of millions of videos, we have to set parameters around which appealed videos get reviewed first to make sure we review those videos that are getting substantial traffic. Right now, our team of expert reviewers look at appealed videos with more than 1,000 views in the past 7 days.
People need 10k subs to appeal now?
No, you need 10k subs to request a manual review of your unlisted or private video regardless of view count.
Can we appeal a manually reviewed video?
You will only be able to appeal a given video once.

So it means that if we set our public videos to unlisted (with 10k+ subs) we will get a manual review within 24 hours, yes?
I’ve got 2000+ videos and 10k+ subs. When the automated Screening system first started, 100% of any new video I uploaded got the Yellow $, and after a manual review, 100% of these were given a Green $. I’ve had over 100 videos go through this process.
Currently, about a third to half of my newly uploaded videos get the Yellow $, and then get a Green $ after a manual review.
But, lately some older videos have been getting a Yellow $ and since the are older, they don’t cross the 1000 views/week threshold. So, I hope this won’t continue because soon I fear all of my older videos will soon have Yellow $s with no way to get them reviewed.

The high % of videos that get a Yellow $ also makes it difficult to post time sensitive content. I had to “Tape delay” Videos from a conference recently because I had to allow for the five day process of for getting videos reviewed. (It takes 1 or 2 days to get the Yellow $, and 1 to 3 Days to get it reviewed and given a Green $).
Ideas:
1) explain what triggered a Yellow $. I am obviously following guidelines because all of my manually reviewed videos get a Green $. So I have no clue how to change things.
2) set up a “pre-approved” status for Channel’s with a good reputation and certain levels of views and subs with a good track record. “Pre-approved” Channel’s would get an automatic Green $, or have a higher trigger threshold in the filters that trigger a Yellow flag.
3) automatically manual review channels with a certain level of good reputation. In other words, don’t give me a Yellow $ and make me ask for a manual review. Simply keep it Green unless a manual review shows it needs to be set to Yellow.

This is what sucks. I spent a week at YouTube space New York taking a class on how to optimize my channel, I spent time on calls with your consultants who told me how to optimize my channel. It involves changing descriptions, keywords, thumbnails. It worked some of our videos hit over 2mil views.
NOW you want us to go back in and change descriptions, thumbnails and tags to make a computer happy again. So much unpaid work because you arbitrarily change the rules you asked us to follow. I remember asking my advisor stating that I feel like I'm selling my content as "sexy" even when it may not really be the point just to get the clicks and THE YOUTUBE CONSULTANT ENCOURAGED IT.
At what point do we access the arbitration clause in our partner agreement to get compensated for lost time and poor management?

You apply a rule to your system, which you can't manage it. So you limit number of people can make appeal your mistake. This is ridiculous.
I have this problem on ALL MY VIDEOS STILL! I am so upset that I work so hard to make nice videos and I keep getting hit with this. What is WORSE is that two videos that are doing well enough to pass the 1000 view in 7 day mark, have both been MANUALLY REVIEWED AND REJECTED!!!!

60% of my videos are stuck in review as well. Since when aren't kid videos advertiser friendly???? This is crazy.

1) POINT WHAT TRIGGERED the yellow icon, because 100% of my videos goes green after manual review so your AI IS A MESS and screw up careers all around the world;
2) Create diferent layers of cen$orship (channels with repeatedly good, positive manual reviews, will have less cen$orship filters and YOU'LL SAVE HUMAN RESOURCE$)
3) Cahhenls with good behavior WILL NEVER be automatically demonetized. Do the manual review SILENTLY and DON'T take the monetization away while in the process.

You are so full of it. A recent video just got demonetized for having "sad" in the title. You shouldn't have changed it to begin with. You're trying to save face, and no one believes you. And you STILL haven't fixed the notification bell. Good job ruining the site.
nono, it's not really credible, it's not reliable, the bot follows with its bad bad algorithm. even if they want to make the users/creators happy, they don't succeed. Then don't complain when the "creators" keep filling other platforms like twitch. Don't cry, but with this cleanup all you can do is lose money.
You could have really improved the alghoritm. In Thursday one of my videos got flagged as inappropriate - I appealed and it went back to normal and was marked green. Few minutes ago I saw that it's once again flagged as an inappropriate and I'm waiting for a manual review. Seriously, what's going wrong with it?
a couple of my videos today was looked at and marked as green which im thinking fantastic news but the last few mins them same videos that was approved are now limited or no ads again.

I appreciate you to what you doing but still this learning machine has some weakness, because you can appeal from Yellow $ to Green $ and 100% accepted but after less than 15 mnts the Yellow $ appears again. This kind of artificial intelligence must have reviewed again to make the system strong that can not be failed.

And how is YouTube going to compensate us for those videos where we lost revenue due to it being incorrectly flagged by the system. Nearly every video I have uploaded over the last two weeks was flagged, incorrectly, thereby costing me the revenue for which I am entitled for that work. Most of my video views come within the first day of the video being uploaded, so all that revenue is lost. How am I going to be compensated for that loss when it is YouTube's failed system as the root cause?

You cannot prove that by me. I am being demonetized at a frantic rate AND shut out of views.
Oh and your algorithm has banned at least 99% of the words in the English language. I would really like hearing it explained how you intend to improve things given this is the case. Examples of banned words are Las Vegas, New York City, Muslim, Islam, Jesus, Stephen Paddock. Need I go on or have I made my point?
Videos of mine that are over 6 months old don't seem to be reviewed after my request.
WOW, is there a lot of upset people, BUT, for those of you who are focusing on the bugs in the program, you should be focusing on the GOOD it has done to keep the platform fun, entertaining and SAFE, for people of all ages. Yes, some of our videos gets the yellow sign, but they do come off once we appeal it. Have faith that this system will work out, it just takes a little time.
IN THE END, your channels will REALLY grow because the bad stuff on YouTube will be GONE!
This isn't very helpful for real content creators, or people who haven't paid for chinese sweatshops to give thousands of subscribers and views. You really are going to give a pass to large channels that steal other people's videos, repost them with computer voices, and click bait titles?
I know ya'll are trying to cut the amount of money that goes out to everyone on youtube from ads, but this is getting ridiculous. So since your Change, I am not back to every Video auto Flagged Not Friendly....and now a little over 24 hours removed instead of the under 24 hours.. Not to mention I had one video flagged unflagged after requesting a review, then flagged again the next day. From just this change my rev has dropped by about 2/3's daily now. So this really has done more harm now. If you are a Gaming channel, this still continues to basically drive you off the platform and focus on streaming instead...GG YouTube, GG.

I still disagree with about 50% of the videos of mine that are marked as "not suitable" and they're all older so unlikely to hit the threshold for review. But this is better.
Perhaps next time you roll out a major untrained machine-learning project you could at least roll it out visual-only so people would have time to train and correct it before it affects the entire community's bottom line for completely arbitrary and often false reasons.
I hope this is fixed soon as it seems to be hitting model builders and model train builders. Most channels have less the 6k in subscribers and less than 750 views per video. But seem to use words like Hobby Knife, Cut, Slice, Gun, Glue Gun, Nail Gun etc. etc. so if it is hitting on those word we get a Yellow $ or worse for something that is normally used and said in the hobby. This need to be fixed.
The best thing would be for YouTube to tell us why were were hit or demonetized etc. running a clean channel for your as most do and all of the sudden we are getting hits. and have no reason why.
List the reason why and the point that triggered the strike on a channel would go a long way. from saying "use a nail gun" or "the glue gun" "Use the sharp knife and cut" etc. we might need to say use this loud green thing to hold the wood together and this hot sticky thing to stick things together and the pointy shiny silver thing to separate with a line.
I am VERY upset about what the demonetization system did to my channel! I FINALLY had a video start to go viral (125,000 views) and other videos were being watched... BUT... each day within 24 hrs of uploading a new video this past week, (for instance one got 1500 views in about 30 hours) it became YELLOW and it was NOT a bad video at all! my channel is G rated! IT'S ON HORSES and animals for crying out loud! AND THEN I uploaded a beautiful compilation of the rescue horses here with YOUTUBE APPROVED music, and it was stricken after getting 500 views the first day it uploaded! SO UPSET! NOW ...NEITHER video is getting views. THis just isn't right! I had 5 more videos that were getting about 2000 views per 48 hours... again they aren't being showed now. This was my chance to grow my channel... and it got ruined because of the "AUTOMATED" demonetization... and I will never get that back! That's not right! You've hurt MANY small channels! And should do something to PUSH our videos now that this has happened. ANGRY YOUTUBER!
This angers me ALSO because... I had over 40 of my videos being watched per hour... NOW ONLY 2 ARE BEING WATCHED??? WHY is this?? good grief ya'll gotta get it together! some of us either do this as a career or are working towards us. WITHOUT US ... you will make NO money. They say at least 1,000 views in a week but we have requested review of videos with as little as 30 views and they were manually reviewed and approved. We have also requested reviews of videos with at least 4,000 views, and are still waiting a few weeks later. We suggest appeal everything if you believe it meets guidelines.
So, if you guys truly are concerned with how we feel as content creators, then it would seem logical to read these comments, because basically once again you have gotten it wrong. The sad part is these measures were put into place because of 2 largely known moments.....However, the end result has basically put all of us in the corner, left trying to figure out what we did or are doing wrong....and from almost all of our perspectives, our videos are getting un-flagged later on....soooo why isn't YouTube put in a time out...Cause basically its telling me that you are wrongly, and still on a very large scale, flagging videos not advertiser friendly..But its us having to deal with your bad decision..funny part...YouTube still gets their cut of the revenue because we rely on our product and our presence, while you live off all of us. this monetization system is a piece of garbage, I think this because you would all the big content creators with their subscriber count reaching that of the hundred millions can only run ads and make money. Meanwhile all the countless small content creators have to somehow figure out a way for 10k people to watch their video before its approved. What I'm saying is that YouTube only cares about the big and famous college dropouts and doesn't give a rats ass about the educated small content creators.
Since theirs no real competition that YouTube has to compete with the way to make money on YouTube is probably not going to change until someone makes a challenge for YouTube.

5) If a video is going to get flagged with a Yellow $, flag it immediately during the "Processing" step when a video is uploaded. I currently always schedule new videos for at least 5 days in the future because I have to allow for 1 to 2 days to see if a video is flagged, and 1 to 2 days to have it manually reviewed. If I knew (idea #1) why a video got flagged immediately upon upload and "Processing", I might then be able to change whatever was causing the video to get the Yellow $. This also suggests that if a video gets a Yellow $ upon upload and processing, that the Creator be given a dialog box that asks if they really want to publish that video, or would the Creator wish to change the offending issue instead. This way the Creator doesn't miss out on income during the initial days where most of the views come in (for most videos). Ideas:
1) explain what triggered a Yellow $. I am obviously following guidelines because all of my manually reviewed videos get a Green $. So I have no clue how to change things. Was it in the title, description, some trigger word, video content, audio content?
2) set up a “pre-approved” status for Channels with a good reputation and certain levels of views and subs with a good track record. “Pre-approved” Channels would get an automatic Green $, or have a higher trigger threshold in the filters that trigger a Yellow flag.
3) automatically manual review channels with a certain level of good reputation. In other words, don’t give me a Yellow $ and make me ask for a manual review. Simply keep it Green unless a manual review shows it needs to be set to Yellow.
4) Instead of

videos, please set it to 1,000 views total. The problem is that I've
got some videos with lots of views that still produce some modest income

ThanksI beg of you, as a small channel who's been on the site for many, many years (I'll be hitting my 12th anniversary in February), PLEASE remove the stipulation that you must hit 1000 views in the past 7 days to get a manual review. For tiny channels like mine, we're lucky if our videos see 1000 views, period. While it doesn't sound like we're losing out on much, having a back catalogue of 1000+ videos added together does, in fact, add up over time to being able to hit the Adsense payout regularly. As someone who's unable to work a traditional job and am reliant on several work-from-home jobs, Youtube being one of them, literally every dollar added together counts, and this is choking us out. Please reconsider this stipulation.

Great, except the true problem lies with the fact that videos are being demonetized at all. I run a family-friendly channel, and yet every other video gets flagged as limited or no ads thirty minutes after I post it. Most views come within the first few hours of posting. It would be fine to simply repeal if the process didn't take several hours to several days to actually review the video after it hits the 1,000 mark. Most of our videos reach 1,000 views in the first 15 minutes and we average 30-40k per video, so it's a tad frustrating that we lose several hundreds of dollars per flagged video before the problem is corrected. Maybe rely on a process that actually requires review of the video before demonetization rather than the other way around? Just a few thoughts.

what would most help youtube creators, other than doing away with this faulty automated demonetization system altogether, is if youtube started communicating with us and telling us precisely which element(s) of a given demonetized video caused it to become demonetized. then we the creators could do our OWN machine learning, and figure out exactly what we're doing wrong, so that we could avoid repeating it in the future, thus providing more advertising revenue for both ourselves AND for youtube.

Its still not working. My last two videos were limited and contained nothing that violated youtube agreement. I especially went out of my way to make sure on my last video that there was no profanity or anything. It was a simple video on running a pcv system on a turbo car. Thats right...I do auto repair videos and you're demonitizing them for no reason! Im a small channel and almost all my views come in the first 48 hours so waiting days for a manual review on something that obviously doesn't violate any policies is ridiculous and completely killing what little money I might have made. You REALLY need to fix this or at least send an email to immediately let us know exactly why something was flagged so maybe it can be edited and re-uploaded instead of wasting that 48 hour window to make revenue.

I would like to provide feedback on your system.While it's great that you are providing transparency, I believe it is far from enough. I would like to know why my videos are getting demonetized. I heed the commands with absolute care, but my videos are still getting demonetized.
I strongly believe that something is not right, because on multiple occasions, I have exported my live stream from Twitch, which perfectly complies to both Twitch and YouTube's terms of service. (If it did not, I would have been banned from Twitch forever ago.) Sometimes, the stream doesn't get automatically demonetized. However, the stream highlights (which are basically a short snippet of the stream) get demonetized.
I disagree with the requirements for manual reviews, especially "10k subs to appeal private video" and "1k views within 7 days for appeal".
The reason why my videos are private in the first place, is because I would like for them to be reviewed and approved before I publish it. Otherwise, I would be losing out on potential ad revenue. I feel that this is discriminatory against small channels such as mine.
As for requiring 1k views within 7 days, I don't think that is a fair gauge. I have many videos that will likely never even reach 1k views, let alone 1k views within 7 days. For instance, a guide catered to beginners in a game, or a guide explaining a specific character / class within an MMORPG, is unlikely to be viewed by experienced players or players who picked a different character respectively. Especially when demonetized videos get less exposure. Why should such content be less likely to be reviewed than clickbaits?
I would suggest looking at the track record of the channel or their other social media as well, to determine if you should review their videos. Though I must say, as a content creator, I feel disrespected at the fact that my work is being judged by an automation as "unsuitable". I would also suggest having the system flag videos, but not demonetize them, until a human has reviewed and confirmed that the content is in fact unsuitable.
Also, on the topic of manual reviews: I feel there is a serious lack of communication. One of my videos, an innocuous gameplay video, was manually rejected, and I have no idea why. It wasn't violent, explicit, nor immoral. Could you at least explain why?

I have been getting a lot of yellow icons for no reason then I click review my content and they say you need to get over 1000views and it will take a week to review then 1 day later its green again I didn't get it. There is nothing +18 in my video and I keep getting the yellow icon as soon as I put a video public and after a day its green. I hope this update solves this problem.

There is a major flaw in the automated system as more and more false positives are detected. On my channel there are recipes uploaded in Gujarati language and every time I upload the video, it is termed as inappropriate for ad. Creators are losing major revenue due to this process. Do rectify asap

One problem I can clearly see from the algorithm is inappropriate language. There needs to be a tick box saying "My video has Inappropriate Language" when uploading a video. This can allow reviewers to foresee inappropriate language when reviewing a video and make it easier to decide weather to demonetize it. Plus add another icon, aka red icon, so that the yellow icon can represent limited ads. This will allow for a "traffic light system" of ads as Green is Fully monetized, Yellow is limited ads and Red is no ads allowed. I believe this three icon system is easier to understand as being Good, OK or Bad than a two icon system where it's Good or bad. Plus if you have the word MEME in the title, the video should not be demonetised for christ sake.

I'd also like to add that your system is making zero sense in what it keeps demonetizing. You know what's getting hit the hardest on my channel? ....Lip balm reviews. I wish I were joking. (For others who may see this message, yes, there is an actual community online for that. Don't ask, it's complicated, lol.) But given the huge bulk of my viewers are literal children, they have to be super tame and family friendly. Yet they continue to get hit, over and over again. The one yesterday was immediately hit within seconds of hitting publish. Granted, that one is the only one so far that I can see why it got hit, since the flavor was blood orange and probably the word "blood" triggered the system. Still. A manual appeal to show that there is literally no gore or actual blood here would be nice, since it's the actual name of a fruit, and that's all it's going off of here. The other ones it hit made no sense though at all. And it's also hit things like taste test reviews on food, colored pencil swatches, ukulele covers of songs...I don't get it. These are like the tamest things ever; how are they not advertiser friendly?

Your machine learning system is not working well on some of my videos. All videos are suitable for advertisers and yet YouTube flags some videos as not suitable for advertisers and it also takes a long time for manual review. Losing money...
In theory, this is an awesome improvement. However, it makes things harder for smaller channels who don't meet the appeals criteria. I understand fully why that criteria exists, I mean, you are only human and I can only imagine the wealth of appeals that come your way.
On the good side though, while i have had a few videos along the way that have turned yellow, I have also found that it helps keep me focused to continuously improve. What do I mean? Well, I have learned that if a video does turn yellow, it is a good opportunity to go in and tweak and adjust various areas of metadata, sometimes 2 or 3 times, in order to regain the cherished green icon. Therefore, it aids in editing titles, descriptions and tags to be better.
I know my content falls into the guidelines as it largely consists of figure reviews and stop motions. I am always very aware of language used, not because of my concern so much about being advertiser-friendly, but because I know both adults and children, sometimes parents with their kids, watch my programming and I feel a social responsibility to make it family-friendly, which can be challenging sometimes if I despise a figure,lol.
Nevertheless, if someone sees this, and taking a side-note here, I would like to suggest something for maybe a creator academy - how to effectively use tags without risking demonetization. I always struggle with what to put in tags, and I know they greatly help. On one hand, I have read that you should include as many as possible and use variants, even possible misspellings that those who do a search might commonly use. On the other hand, I have also read that you should not over-saturate because it could be seen as false. So, where is the comfy in between? For example, if i did a stop motion, I might include stop motion animation, beast wars guests, transformers parody and Megatron explores Thanksgiving - and leave it at that. However, I could see the value in adding things like thanksgiving scheme, Airazor knock off, shockwave, starscream, waspinator and beast wars megatron (Since they are all guests) and comedy cartoon film. Now, just by adding those, I have used the terms "thanksgiving" in more than one tag, as well as, "beast wars" and "Megatron". While they are in separate tags and used to identify different characters, I avoid adding these for fear that it will be seen as over-saturation and really only hurt me in the long run.
I love the new improvements and how they can motivate us to be better content creators. I am thankful for such improvements and hope to see even more. However, it would help to have a little more assistance/ direction between monetization and metadata to positively improve the experience for both creators and advertisers alike.
Stop discriminating against smaller channels. I want all my yellows reviewed.

<heavy sigh> So the small channels (very small like mine) still get to suffer because they will not review it until the videos reach a certain amount of views. If it effects us small channels like this, no wonder the larger channels are going to Patreon, fan funding and other formats to make up the lost revenue. YouTube and the advertisers on YouTube are making it impossible. I miss the old YouTube when your channel wouldn't get flagged for saying whats on your mind!

I have a video that has no objectionable content at all that just got flagged. My channel is small so there's no way ANY of my videos are going to get 1000 views in one week... Either your very obviously flawed technology needs to cease and desist or your review process needs to quit this discrimination of small channels. Why are our videos -- and our ability to earn revenue off them -- any less important than any one else's????? I'm a relative newbie to YouTube and have been extremely happy being here up to date. Now? No longer all that happy. If "The creator community is [so] incredibly important to YouTube" why are you working so hard to tick so many of us off??? I run a cooking channel on YouTube and even though my video is liked and appreciated by many other viewers online, I have no idea why does YouTube play such gimmicks by turning my monetization icon to yellow telling me that "my video isn't appropriate for most advertiser"?

I know some of my video's have derogatory language and might be offensive to some advertisers but those same videos get a lot of views! Whats to stop the kids from listening to the same songs on a radio or their cell phones? Most people like to hear the original lyrics and they know I love all races!

is going to get flagged with a Yellow $, flag it immediately during the
"Processing" step when a video is uploaded. I currently always schedule
new videos for at least 5 days in the future because I have to allow
for 1 to 2 days to see if a video is flagged, and 1 to 2 days to have it
manually reviewed. If I knew (idea #1) why a video got flagged
immediately upon upload and "Processing", I might then be able to change
whatever was causing the video to get the Yellow $. This also suggests
that if a video gets a Yellow $ upon upload and processing, that the
Creator be given a dialog box that asks if they really want to publish
that video, or would the Creator wish to change the offending issue
instead. This way the Creator doesn't miss out on income during the
initial days where most of the views come in (for most videos). Ideas:
1) explain what triggered a Yellow $. I am obviously following guidelines because all of my manually reviewed videos get a Green $. So I have no clue how to change things. Was it in the title, description, some trigger word, video content, audio content?
2) set up a “pre-approved” status for Channels with a good reputation and certain levels of views and subs with a good track record. “Pre-approved” Channels would get an automatic Green $, or have a higher trigger threshold in the filters that trigger a Yellow flag.
3) automatically manual review channels with a certain level of good reputation. In other words, don’t give me a Yellow $ and make me ask for a manual review. Simply keep it Green unless a manual review shows it needs to be set to Yellow.
4) Instead of
the 1,000 views in the past 7 days for allowing a manual review of past
videos, please set it to 1,000 views total. The problem is that I've
got some videos with lots of views that still produce some modest income
each day, but since they are very old, they don't cross the 1,000/7 day
threshold, even though they have much more than 1,000 lifetime views.

So, riddle me this Ms Marissa... what the heck is it about a video about hiking and taking photos in a State Park (landscape photos, no people other than yours truly, fully cothed thankfully) with the title: "Searching for Autumn Color at Whitewater State Park, MN", with a thumbnail showing a stream with the title written over it, and no abusive, sexual, swear or other words in the entire video that would elicit a "not suitable for most advertisers" flag???? Bottom line is that the YOUTUBE algorithm is severely flawed (otherwise you would not see so many adverse comments on this posting) AND your review process is also flawed. NOT GOOD! I understand and applaud what YouTube is trying to do. Unfortunately, your solution is a major FAIL! Get back to the drawing board and quit making the creators pay for your mistake!

The system is STILL broken.
Before you roll out machine learning program you need to test it more than you have. Experienced ML programmer here and you program is flawed beyond belief and your review guidelines should not be limited at all(no restrictions) on new ML programs. *Note most of your problems that the program will not catch come with inexperienced users which are ones with less than a 1000 users and less than 10000 subs. If you are trying to correct a ML program you need to work with all the data(suprised developers at YouTube and Google allow this to happen). Currently 1000 views and 10000 subscribers you are generally setting the program up to fail and you will not catch the errors!

I think Google Adsense, need's improvement too! Providing all my information and still not getting paid, when iv'e reached my threshold twice. Also getting demonitized for the tiny little thing's, that are legal to use and be done.
That's nice. Actually most creators lost their revenue because after uploading main views come from subscribers and then for yellow monetization many creators greatly hampered. I think this will turn into a change. Thanks for this change.

This is an awesome communication with us creators, I hope you guys know what you doing with the monetization algorithm. My latest video has been monetized for some days and it swtiched to Yellow and Green then to Yellow again. Its just a car video and I dont know whats wrong in it. I DO hope YouTube / Google AdSense fixes the glitch- as it does appear when the icon is turned to yellow... the message upon clicking "appeal" is - "IF you switch to YouTube Red... ads will continue to appear"- in other words- it appears the goal to this new "system" is to encourage everyone to switch to YouTube Red & charge their viewers. - most of my videos have been switched to yellow icons- despite following the "YouTube Community Guidelines" & I always click the "Over 18" link upon upload if I feel there is anything questionable- regarding my attire. (YouTube panics when they see a bikini) which I realize is "not advertiser friendly" - At this point the system is discouraging those of us who work HARD to film/edit & upload content that we know is within the boundaries of the "YouTube Community Guidelines"- & instead will discourage us to work so hard ... & just upload stuff that won't earn revenue anyway. - seriously- what is our incentive to work hard to abide by the "YouTube Community Guidelines" if we won't be earning revenue for doing it...due to the new system... that is clearly trying to force us to "sign up for YouTube Red"

I think that you folks at YouTube already realize that your Yellow/Green $ system roll-out was mismanaged. You probably already know that you're losing many of your Creators as a result. That is a shame, because you need good content to support your business model.3) Number of Creators affected by Yellow $ each day, and Accumulated Net, again segmented by Channel Subs
4) Number of New Requests for Manual Review per day, again segmented by Channel Subs
5) Number of Outstanding Requests for Manual Review, again segmented by Channel Subs
6) Number of Manual Reviews completed per day, again segmented by Channel Subs
7) Percentage of Manually Reviewed Videos approved for a Green $ (I call these "False Flags"); Flip side is number and percentage of Videos correctly given a Yellow $
8) Estimated Lost Revenue that your Creators are suffering, again segmented by Channel Subs
Target Goals for:
1) Reducing "False Flags" (there are two kinds - Videos incorrectly given a Yellow $, and Videos incorrectly given a Green $)
2) Reducing backlog of Videos needing Manual Review (number of videos and response time)
3) Target Date for reducing requirements for Manual Review Requests (e.g. Reducing the number of views to 100/week vs. 1000/week; Reducing to 1,000 subs from 10K subs)
I assume that YouTube has such metrics and targets, assuming that you have a mature management team. I also assume that your Advertisers would want to see such metrics, too. So, being more transparent with your Creators is the next step towards regaining the confidence and loyalty of your Creator Community.

Jordan, since this update there has only been MORE demonetization happening to my videos RIGHT when they start to gain thousands of views then when they stop getting views gets re-monetized. This is incredibly frustrating as there's literally so much i'm losing by this non-sense. Also, fix up the algorithm, right when i submit a review, more yellow markers start popping up, it's ridiculous and not fair. And videos that have already been demonetized, then remonetized, get demonetized again pls fix this and make the review process faster (within a few hours would be great). Thanks
im also having the yellow dollar sign problem. two of these videos are motion activated trail camera footage of deer, raccoons, cats and other animals walking around in the woods. theres no music, talking or anything inappropriate in the video, title or description.
also, my latest product review video was tagged with the yellow icon. it was a $10 LED Light sound activated disco ball where i unboxed it and showed how it worked. there was no music used in the video. the title and description have nothing spammy and the thumbnail was one of the 3 choices that youtube provided. Ive deleted, re-edited, re-uploaded this video 3 times and it still gets the yellow dollar sign.

Interesting as I seem to be having a 30% increase in videos containing a yellow icon. This is ridiculous as I have to wait until I have 1000 views for these videos to be reviewed. Please do not turn yellow button on automatically by report. Because some people intentionally reports the videos. If the video has massive reports please check it manually then turn on the yellow button. Because lots of views comes in initial 24 hours. If the yellow button turns on we cannot earn from that view.

Remember the old days when you actually VETTED each channel before you made them full partners? When you gave away all the goodies like monetization, thumbnails, and no reviewing of videos before they were monetized, you created the mess we have today. You have made it profitable for people to steal other creators' content. I have videos that are demonetized and I see ads on all the video thieves' videos. If I file a DCMA on those videos, they just appeal them and I am helpless to do anything about it. I must be stupid for creating my own unique content when I can just go out and steal someone else's. Earnings have dropped to ONE SIXTH of what they were in 2014. There are just not enough ads to go around now. I am lucky if I get an ad impression for ONE video view out of FOUR. I have serious doubts about my future on YouTube trying to make a living. And you keep throwing up road blocks like Limited or No Ads and demonetization without explaining what we are doing wrong.

I understand the need of machine learning for classification based on guidelines, but I don't understand why a video after being approved as fit for monetization is again under surveillance, I am also seeing a trend whenever my video gets traction (though I am small and new) , I see the yellow icon. I also assume that machine learning is also considering the comments made by the community as input that is not in creators control and would not be fair.
I have some videos about terror attacks that I have not monetized but videos with plain politics discussed is also coming in scrutiny.
Please let me know when this could be fixed.

You guys have killed YouTube with this “Advertiser friendly” crap. Smaller channels have a hard time getting 1000 views in a week on certain videos, and just because an ad plays on a video, I don’t think there’s anyone dumb enough to think that this means said advertiser endorses said content...and I find it frustrating, as well as hypocritical, that I get videos demonetized for words like “Dead” or “Kill” or any variation of them (Even if said words are part of a game or movie title) yet bigger channels like Markiplier can say it on every other video and never get hit. If YouTube keeps going down this path, someone will create a superior alternative and your site will fail.
How to get more subscribers. If anyone can guide me. These things are way too complicated than just making videos. Thanks :)

It's interesting to see that you think that this has been an improvement. Since this change, I spend more time clicking appeal and less time trying to work on content. I spend more of my time managing your platform than what I should be doing. We are a small channel <10k subs but we have a very dedicated group of viewers. On average our views are hitting 1000 -1500 / video. So with your restrictions, I am loosing most if not all of the revenue if I post immediately/short-term scheduled.
I am happy you are trying to resolve the problems and I am glad that you are working on making things better. 30% less seems like a stretch when I am seeing 90% more and from the looks of it so are many others. Several people have made very constructive posts
Some suggestions;
1) a yellow icon does not describe specifically how to become a better creator when we feel we met everything you have already prescribed. Seriously we are a quilting channel and probably the most advertiser-friendly thing out there. How about giving better reasoning behind the icon that explains where we went wrong.
2) Set up a system which allows channels to be reviewed and determine based on strikes ( you like this one already for copyright and Community guidelines. This would ensure you can give solid content creators a chance to create their content and earn off of it if it is in good standing their content would continue to be monetized until such a time as when flagged the content can be reviewed correctly. I am not suggesting here you remove the flagging of videos but more creating a creator-friendly environment which will allow good creators to not be penalized for bad algorithms and improve their overall content to meet your desired platform goals.
3) Give us a way to see what advertisers are saying about our content and why it is not ad friendly. Ultimately we are responsible for the content and if we want to have ad revenue then we are the ones that have to work our content.
4) Stop the "1000 in 7 days" as it only helps you with videos of larger creators and only hurts the up and comer channels. It is not like the original days of Youtube where there were fewer creators. It is hard to build a channel and what little monetization/money we get from advertisers does make a big difference on if we are able to continue or not. If this demonetization path we are going down currently continues youtube will have no new creators and only "big players" which will eventually turn the platform into Cable TV.
I want to work with you and I hope that we can continue to build a working relationship. Changes like this one, however well intended, leave a bitter taste in our mouth.

The most affected are small creators who are starting out, there is no one to listen to them and thay are absolutely screwed. I am talking about creators who have less than 1000 subscribers and are just starting out. Then might not pull 1000 views in a week but this doesn't mean they are useless. As in USA, the bottom people always suffer.
I am just waiting for Amazon to land a competitor, than they will learn a lesson. Now they have just the monopoly power

Appeal is not an option for smaller channels. I run a cooking recipe channel and I wonder what violation my videos make? Within 48 hours, the green icon turns yellow. I noticed this on my 2 recent uploads (after the new algo is implemented). Then I do make request, when 1 of my video again got green icon. I did not change anything, because I know there is violating words, no violation content, no abuse, just plain and good recipe with complete details. I am yet to make any money from youtube, but already spent quite a lot on adwords to promote my channel and videos! I also received no promotion offer from Adwords till now. It is only hope that 1 day my channel will grow and I can also make money, which looks quite a distant now.

Querido youtube, tengo 67 mil subs mas de 100 mil visitas por mes, me preocupa mucho la situación que esta pasando en la plataforma, sobre la monetizacion del mismo, es pésimo cada que subo un video automaticamente el algoritmo desmonetiza mi video, pone icono amarillo a mis videos a los 5 minutos luego de subirlo, esto es una basura pues ya que las primeras visitas son las mas importantes para mi, tengo videos que ya han sido apelados para su monetizacion y me dicen que mi contenido es apto para todos los anunciantes bien ahí, el caso es que ya había mandado apelar mis videos y nuevamente se me puso los iconos amarillos, pues según ustedes dicen que un video ya revisado no tiene porque volver al icono amarillo, estoy cansado de esmerarme bastante en mi contenido que obtiene mas de 100 mil visitas a la semana para que solo gane 0.49 centavos, tengo videos con 1 millon de views y solo al mes generan menos de 1 dolar, es bastante frustrante tener que lidiar con sus ''problemas'' estoy cansado de esto, ya estoy pensando seriamente en dejar esta plataforma y buscar otras alternativas si no encuentran solución lo más rápido posible. Entiendo que son las nuevas normas pero es injusto que tenga contenido que NO es relacionado con política, violencia, insitacion sexual u alguna otra que se le parezca. Mi contenido es sobre noticias de la farandula de un programa de tv. Es absurdo su algoritmo es bastante malo e inaceptable

Please tell me why you are "testing" against production users. Tell me why it is so import to offend the entire creator community instead of using a pilot. It's good to know that you are now 30 percent accurate, but you are really saying that you are now now only wrong 70% of the time.
But *WORST OF ALL* you continue to claim that a video needs 1000 views a week in order to appeal. This is complete garbage. For every video that I have that receives 1000 views per week, I have 25 others that receive less than that. Why are you treating me so badly?
We all have a sense of fairness and what is right and wrong. And your "1000 views per week" requirement is not fair and not right and no amount of corporate mumbo jumbo word speak can change that.

its not "removing" bad content, its simple denying you the ability to make money from it. you can still post the video, but the ad revenue will be gone. so it won't be keeping the platform and more "fun or safe" unfortunately.

I've actually noticed nearly every single one of my videos getting demonitized the day after I put it up, I wait it out and for some it just remonitizes, but kills my chance for growth since those first days are the most important for gaining watch time, but yet getting deemed not advertiser friendly FOR NO REASON automatically kills smaller channels watch time since you're not promoting those view since YOU don't make money on it, because you made that possible.... I don't understand and it's entirely frustrating
I agree with what someone else put, this system is giving the bigger YouTubers a free pass while smaller channels that are trying to grow, like mine, are suffering for it. I'm getting random videos demonotized for no reason that I can see, they adhere to the guidelines, but I don't even bother sending a request to review it due to the fact that I need 1000 views within seven days to even get considered. I only started serious YouTubing in June and I'm lucky if one of my videos even gets viewed at all due to still trying to grow my audience and do proper marketing You really need to reevaluate this system of yours because it's not working all that well and there isn't a whole lot of communication really.
My most viewed video of my partner having contractions during labour has been flagged before for some strange reason so got it re monetized now your new system has flagged it when you guys said it was ok, come youtube sort your shit out oh and it has over 300 thousand views witch made only 60 odd british pounds thats a terrible revenue deal, SORT IT OUT YOUTUBE

How many shows do you all watch on Netflix that would fall under "Inappropriate content"? You all are killing your own content. It doesn't matter how correct the process is when the process is censorship. You should find another way. Cursing shouldn't stop video monetization. Hate speech should, sure. Pretty obvious to tell the difference. Instead you blanketed it and are slowly killing a great thing.
My problem only got worse. Now more videos are randomly getting yellow sign however it goes back and forth it gets green and back to yellow it is driving me nuts. Its almost like youtube is purposely going out of their way to make this confusing.
Now you're demonetizing ALL MY VIDEOS. While they are getting reviews and the monetization put back, because it takes a day or two you are making so during that vital first 24 hours when most of the views come in I MAKE NO MONEY. you have swiftly killed my channel with your broken system. EVERY video i make fits the guidelines but EVERY video is also getting demonetized.
HOWEVER it's become obvious that you do not put older channels who still have /user URLs through the same wringer. Even though the income is small I rely on it to pay bills. It's frustrating that nobody has the ability to mark a channel as family friendly, like my own, and avoid the constant attack of unfair and unregulated demonetization. Blaming it on "machine learning" is just passing the buck while we get screwed.
The "machine" is killing me.

After reading all of the comments in this forum, I’ve concluded that your best option is to take your Ad Suitability filter back to Beta testing.
Use the filter to flag videos for manual review, but keep the video status as Green $ unless a manual review concludes that it should be given a Yellow $. Use the manual reviews to continue to refine your filter. When a video is given a Yellow $ after manual review, tell the Creator why with some specifics. Keep metrics and do not go go back to your current workflow until your false flag error rate is better than at least 4 sigma.
Also, tell Creators that you have made a mistake with your current policy of using your Creative community as Beta testers. An apology will help you buy back some goodwill. Admitting that you made a mistake is a sign of mature management.
Continuing with your current approach is a sign of weak management and the press will soon shine a light on it. Once the press puts this problem in the spotlight you’ll have an even bigger problem to deal with.

What about revenue lost while the video is under review? Will you reimburse creators for the time you kept it in the orange? In my experience the first day of a post makes the most revenue, that is until after a few weeks when the video becomes more visible to the greater YouTube community. Essentially this system means we miss out on the revenue that we would have made from our subscribers who received the initial upload notifications, and that is NOT cool.
Is it possible to changed some rules.

Business channel - Most Priority
Entertainment and Fun - Mid level priority
Adult content - stop or block

Demonetization has effect many videos, though users are abiding under the terms and conditions, still video get demonized. Smaller player with less than 10K subscriber or 1000 views will have to wait till it get qualified for the "review" [In other words first 1000 views does not make any money if its demonetized]
I got a question from one user, his video got demonetized, he checked all the possible reason but he could not find any. In fact i could not see anything wrong with this video. This video has gone viral, in the first day itself that video got 10,000 views. but because of demonetization all that view is of no use. Though he submitted to review, its taking almost 2 days or more. So ultimately user has to bit the pain if the machine demonetize your video.

I've been having to do the manual review with EVERY single new video I upload. Sam subject, same benign titles and same key words and tags.
It begins as Green, goes Yellow, after requesting a review, it goes back to green and now back to yellow. I hope this AI "Learns" this a bit quicker.

This is so unfair to the smaller channels. We need a way to request manual review right away rather than requiring at least 10,000 subscribers or 1000 views in 7 days. My videos are getting the Yellow icon for no valid reason and I will never meet the current requirements. You should also notify us of why our video is "not suitable for all advertisers".

Good news but there are still inconsistencies in this process. I have videos for BIKE RACING that are marked as an issue, which is wrong. Also the REVIEW PROCESS is unfair as only people already making money, eg those with 1,000 views or more, can appeal, meaning the little guys get punished and unnoticed. The REVIEW PROCESS should apply to ALL, regardless of viewership.

The 1,000 views in the past 7 days rule is stupid, does not help the smaller channels...but it's understandable considering the amount of videos on youtube that will get incorrectly flagged.
I had a few videos with limited or no ads ...2 of them contained the keyword Slime, the videos were how to make Slime??? After I removed the keyword Slime...the videos went back to full ads showing?? ...2 more videos were flagged today, and they are in the rules set out ...so no idea what's going on there??
This feature seems broken to me ...or the advertisers are not interested in low view videos ...but I guess it's there money they can advertise on what videos that wish at the end of the day.

Most videos I upload continue to get a YELLOW icon, but that YELLOW icon changes to GREEN later... even before it gets 1000 views. Something strange is happening, and I don't know what it is, but it is incredibly frustrating. Obviously, I'm not uploading anything deemed inappropriate for advertisers because all of my videos are monetized. It's just that almost every single upload turns YELLOW for a while, then turns GREEN later. I've spoken with support and I feel like I'm getting nowhere at all with it. They can't give me any explanation. Just some cookie-cutter reply about system changes. If it's supposed to have gotten better, I think it's gotten worse... at least in my case. Please fix this. It's disheartening.

I find that the majority of demonetization is small gamers. Im a bit miffed over this cause some of the quality content creators are leaving. Yet you allow people like Markaplier and Pewdeepie to get away with what smaller gamers cant. Explain to me how thats fair? I see it as those who make the big bucks for youtube are favored and smaller content creators are punished. What you dont realize is if enough creators leave youtube, you will lose more money then you make with the bigger guys...may I suggest some economics classes for your execs.

Great to hear that the system is being improved but this doesn't change the fact that many people who relied on YouTube for a living lost a lot of income because you released an obviously flawed system with half-baked guidelines. In the future if you want to do science experiments like this why not do it in ways that doesn't affect someone's livelihood.

Just whitelist established channels, when you are aware of a channel that clearly never violates any of your rules, then whitelst them, save them going through this misery you are inflicting, on us
All you have done is make a really awful mess, of the site, make millions of is here miserable, and still you are messing with "technical" stuff no one seems to understand there, just pick on the channels that were responsible for scaring away sponsors, after all, it was their vile videos, YTs poor vetting of ads being placed and lazy sponsors who never bothered to check, BUT all us good law abiding, people now are paying the price, YT you have almost destroyed this site
we generally get 300.000 - 400.000 views in 48 hours two of my video get yellow signed i counted i actually counted for about 40 hours stayed yellow youtube, this thing killing us we lose ton of money we are started hating because of this late statistics reviews

Improvements are good but for the YouTubers who are seriously pursuing the goal of making videos on YouTube a regular job drastic changes like changing adds policy and especially discouraging people who are not compliant to the mainstream and only want to present facts such policies by YouTube are frankly beyond my understanding. I thought youtube is a place where people can speak their mind and their peers are the best judges. In case of my own channel I have done the research myself self compiled data and published in the best possible way with no scenes of gruesome violence but still have been facing limitations on some of my best performing videos with more then 95% approval rating by my audience. On the other hand I have seen adds popping up on videos which show blood and violence. Kindly review your policies which effect the very people who contribute to this platform.

five of my new uploads got green then it's yellow now for NO apparent reason. this is so frustrating
Since this change, my videos are getting flagged regularly. I appeal and they get cleared. My content is ham radio and technical with none of the listed problems that should lead to the dreaded yellow icon. Yet, every recent upload has been flagged, resulting in lost revenue. This is very frustrating. An email to support resulted in a boiler plate response, no help there. I have examined my vids for anything that could possibly cause the erroneous flag with no clue.

same thing Happened to me V.J., I had Hate in the title of a very positive video and the word hate wasnt used in a hateful way even, it was used as why people hate blank and it got demonetized by the bot, But I changed the title and demonetized then re monetized and now it's good. so change the title and see if that helps you like it helps me. Right off the bat I'm not a huge fan of our freedom of expression be taken away because thats what I believed Youtube was all about, but it's now being more about politics like everything else
Appreciate the effort, but since the update, my videos have gotten demonetized almost daily as soon as I make them public and I lose all revenue by the time you guys come around to realizing your mistake. There is no reason for my videos to be demonetized, at all.

Well, not sure how the new monetization and appeals process will help smaller channels like mine. I have been working my tail off to create great content that will attract more viewers. It does not help that you took away the video editing and creator tools. Trying to find a video editing system that works (free app) is next to impossible. I do not have the money to pay for a professional editing system or upgrade. Yes, it is a little disappointing...a total setback for a new YouTuber like myself:(

According to about 30 large creators I talk to and my own channel, it got WAY worse after your recent "improvements." It doesn't even work at a basic level. It's worse than random. Out of the 20-30 that were flagged on my channel, 100% were overturned. Its accurate is 0% correct. FIX IT.

YouTube I have been on here for over 9 years now and use to really love making videos and posting them. Nowadays it's a chore to do just one video a week because I know as soon as I posted it I'll get the yellow dollar sign. This is really sad that you guys play with our views and our revenue in order to get your system right. But I bet you guys still get paid without a cut.
I uploaded a video of my 93-year-old grandmother eating and getting her hair done and YouTube Flagged it. WHY? Your customer service agents were not able to tell me why and it's still flagged after I sent it for review. This is really sad and makes me not want to post any more Work from Home Job videos, Cooking videos or even those of my grandson because they all get flagged for some reason.

This feature is not good. Because, I am getting yellow symbol for every video after some hours, when my view count is going to high. If i appealed for manual review in that time, it was taking more than 18 hrs. In that time i was not able to earn any money from AD's. I don't like this can you please revert it back. I put so many many hours into each of my videos which are family oriented, there is no foul language, insults or anything negative to insult anyone, yet my videos get flagged and then i have to wait for a review until i have 1000 views. Your bot is still flawed. One video after the other are being flagged as "not suitable for advertisers" wrongly and immediately they get back to full monetization after a manual review. We are given no indication of what the bot thinks is wrong either. Now videos are even flagged the moment they are uploaded, having to wait to reach 1,000 views for a review, something that videos from most smaller channels will never achieve. This as a result is struggling our channels and killing them slowly.

I have a total of 73+ million views and 638 videos...I've started to review all the clips with the yellow symbol. Many are high view clips..e.g. a million plus, etc in yellow.

Sadly this system means it cant tell clean LGBT content and @youtube is demonetizing LGBT creators from the content they make especially ours, for that fact, the appeals process takes too long and my video's become out of date as a daily LGBT news channel when I have to appeal, ergo losing revenue and subscribers.

Please stop De-monotizing videos with educational firearms content. Reloading and reviews of products, like bump fire stocks, should be allowed so people can learn the truth about them instead of the wildly misleading information on the news. Youtube controlling this information is only making things worse and your policies on such topics should be reviewed. In doing so Youtube is controlling our first amendment about the second amendment which is absolutely ridiculous. This new review system is very flawed and needs major improvement.
What is going on here YouTube? 2 days ago was my first upload since i got reviewed and approved. Then today i notice it has been flagged yellow. I am an artist, and the video in question is me drawing a cat of ours. I wear neutral clothing as to not offend anyone, i do not curse at all, and i even tell everyone in my videos that i love everyone at the end of every one of my videos. Most of my videos will never reach 1000 views in 7 days. But here is the strange part. The video in question keeps going from yellow to green to yellow to green. I'm not sure here, but i do believe your AI bot may be having a seizure YouTube...lol Please fix this, or i will have to self demonetize all of my videos...:(
I agree with this post. Smaller channels are suffering the most from the appeal process. They may not have a large subscriber following or able to get 1000 views in 7 days.

this wrong on so many levels. i am small channel trying to figure out what works for me. so what i make is not perfect..i made a video it had () in the title and had people in the background talking and audio thru one channel. i uploaded 3 version of this video finally fixing these things. there's nothing morally wrong in it. it was made by a noob and it looks like it but all my videos do. And youtube won't say what exactly triggered the yellow tag so it can be fixed. and on top that they won't look at it.right now a 1000 views is a big deal to me. i feel this system you have set in place is discriminatory and makes me not want to post here nevermind that you all have this talk to the wall scenario going and my voice won't get heard.

This system is so terrible, and please youtube know this. So you started this system because owner of ads dislike their ads attached to ISIS. But, that negative should be removed by user's report and manual youtube admin's work. Not by current way of automatic system, because this system hurts severely innocent creators.

I have a video on my channel that happens to be my most popular and it can't be monetised because it 'contains 3rd party content'. It doesn't. It did carry a copyright claim but I removed the music and used some from your library. There is now no copyright claim so I can't dispute this third party that doesn't exist. You might want to take another look at your update or at least tell us if videos are being flagged for visual content or are there "trigger" words in the description box that will get content flagged. Whatever it is, YT just flagged a video of my daughter petting bunnies as "inappropriate content." This makes absolutely no sense so still in the dark what is being scanned and what the "triggers" are.

It's affecting them a lot as demonetized videos dont even get a notification for a viwers hence decreasing viewrship
Also asking for human verification only gives them the message that we are sorry for what happened...check the advertisers policy

Please whitelist channels where you get the ad bans wrong. There are some on this site who play a pretty boring card when making content via the Partner program, yet your processes seem to be very sensitive and not understand a Halloween video, a toy gun vs a real gun or dark comedic humour. This advertiser confidence problem was generated by the stupid idea called Partner For All that started in 2012. How was being non selective about who gets access to ad's was ever going to be a good idea. Partnership needs to be earned and not just given away as it's been for the past 5 years. I'm sorry Google but this is the lowest times I have experienced on this platform and I have seen lots over the last 10 years. Your change to the Partnership rules is sadly way too late. The horse has bolted and look at the mess the site is in now. Many producers who have been totally loyal to this platform and now looking for alternative sites that are just doing the business without being letting robots select what's allowed to be ad content.

This system SUCKS. Suddenly, now I get a flagged video. It is no different from any other video I have made. With ~580 subscribers, there is no chance in hell that it will be manually reviewed. i have 21,000 subscribers. my videos are about Gardening Vegetables (100% family friendly content). My latest video i uploaded yesterday as PRIVATE, i waited 15 hours and the $ icon stayed green. I made the video PUBLIC this morning. After 30 minutes the $ icon turned yellow. I clicked request review and now ive got to wait for it to be approved. All the views are coming in right now with no money. By the time it gets reviewed all the views will have dropped off so it'll be just pennies from then on. Its like i got fired from a job but im still working without getting paid. YouTube needs to overhaul this terrible new system.

@Jordan E. Frankly, you've got far too many problems and I echo the sentiment of all other small to medium sized channel owners. YT SUCKS anymore for small channels. All you care about is Red and PewDiePie. I've already begun signing up to get verified and monetized with Vid.me. I've been a partner since 2008 and YT used to be a decent place to make money before Google screwed it up. It's no longer viable for me and I've all but stopped trying to create content and work on the channel. It's not worth it. I've had videos that have been monetized FOR YEARS!!!! and suddenly you throw a yellow icon up and yank monetization from ANIMAL RESCUE videos??? WTF is your problem?

i only have a small channel and very little income but we help out allot of people with tutorial videos regarding computers,Bugs
and many computer related problems..Because we are so small we cannot get the videos reviewed and you hit our most viewed
videos i don't care about the ones that where not doing so well but 10 videos from my channel where demonitorized and we
have been hit hard..Considering the amount of time we put into helping other people out this is including the comments section
we were only making around $40 a month on a good month then we are lucky to even get $15 from ads..
But the thing is i had the videos checked by a friend and we where doing good on adverts we always where showing good quality
adverts and getting a reasonable amount of clicks on the videos in question so there where computer related ads showing on these
videos..Which was good for our subscribers and visitors many hours where put into these videos..Now you have shown ads on these
videos with 0 issues for the past 2 to 3 years and now all of a sudden you decide you do not have any ads for them ???This sound a
little crazy if you ask me..We cannot appeal the videos we want to which where the ones that where doing good because we need 1000 views
a month on said video..So this is not fair for a start..We have around 75 videos up and some get very little views..But we where happy
to help others out and get a little pocket money in return considering the amount of hours that went into help every one...

I am finding too many of my videos being given the yellow icon. Even more so, you are giving me a yellow after having initially given me a green and allowing me to earn SOME cents. Also, far too many of my videos are being said to be non-eligible for monetization. Some videoes you all run ads but give me no money and still tell me I cannot monetize it. Is it time to reveal manual penalties that exist for channels? It's like my channel is stuck in the algorithm, and no matter what I do, there's no love from YT. I have never taken anyone's content. I have 40+ million views (yanked some videos, thinking, maybe they are the cause of the problem - but no idea. Down to around 25 million view count because of it... and I'm pulling 2-3,000 minutes of view time per day with 600 some videos... WTAW???

Well, I have a small channel but nobody cares:( The algorythm isn't perfect and it applied a yellow icon on one of my latest video. I'm very disappointed about that.
