Hi everyone,
A few weeks ago, we started expanding appeals to creators for videos with fewer ads by rolling out new, yellow monetization $ icons. More info is in our original forum announcement here. The new icons are still rolling out to all creators—it’s gradual to ensure there are no technical issues with the update. For more information about both the previous and new icons, check out this monetization icon guide for details.
We’ve received a lot of questions about the appeals process and the technology evaluating videos. Below we’ve shared more detail about these topics, as well as the steps we’re taking to improve the roll out:
Let’s talk about the appeal process:
When you request a review (e.g. appeal the current monetization status), the video gets looked at by an expert reviewer (not a computer) who spends time watching the video and reviewing the video’s content, title and metadata against our advertiser-friendly content guidelines. We know these reviews are important to you and your revenue, so we strive to review as many videos as humanly possible, as quickly and accurately as possible.
Because we’re a platform that has hundreds of millions of videos, we have to set parameters around which appealed videos get reviewed first to make sure we review those videos that are getting substantial traffic. Right now, our team of expert reviewers look at appealed videos with more than 1,000 views in the past 7 days. If you want to check the monetization status before making the video public, you can upload it as unlisted or private. If you think we got it wrong and your channel has more than 10,000 subscribers, you can appeal, and we will review your unlisted/private video regardless of view count. We do this because we want to make sure that videos from channels that could have early traffic to earn money are not caught in a long queue behind videos that get little to no traffic and have nominal earnings.
Now let’s talk about our technology and advertiser-friendly guidelines:
We’ve heard questions about why the monetization status is applied so quickly after upload (including with unlisted and private videos). This is because in the first few hours of a video upload we use machine learning to determine if a video meets our advertiser-friendly guidelines. This also applies to scheduled live streams, where our systems look at the title, description, thumbnail and tags even before the stream goes live. We know our system doesn’t always get it right, so if you see a yellow icon in your Video Manager and feel our automated systems made a mistake, please appeal. As noted above, an appeal gets sent to a human reviewer and their decisions help our systems get smarter over time. Deleting the video and re-uploading won't help.
If you’re not sure why so many of your videos have the new yellow icon, review our advertiser-friendly content guidelines, not just against the content of the video, but also the title, description, thumbnail and tags. Additionally, blank videos or videos without a title or metadata likely don’t provide enough context to help our systems understand if the content is suitable for all advertisers, so it may lead to a yellow icon status for the video. For additional resources, see these best practices and the new YouTube Creator Academy course.
And a technical issue we’re working to fix:
We’ve seen a few reports that the icon and text in Video Manager is not updating right away after a successful appeal (turning from yellow to green). We’ve already made some improvements to this so it updates more quickly. If you appeal and receive an email from us that the video is “suitable for all advertisers” then the icon should turn from yellow to green soon!

I run a small YouTube channel with 2k subscribers.
Some of my recent videos have been getting flagged. (I make videos on pack openings and reviews) I had a video get flagged before it was even released. This really discourages me to continue to make content knowing that I can't potentially make an income in the future. I make 3-4 videos a week and most of my videos get their views within the first 24 hours. If my videos get flagged immediately, I lose can potentially lose all the revenue from that video before the appeal is reviewed. Some of my videos don't make it to the 1000 views mark which makes appealing the flagged video even more discouraging for me. I had a video I made a long time ago (that is harmless) get flagged but is sitting at 700 views. It hasn't and won't be reviewed because it needs 1000 views in a week. How can a small channel that gets flagged often continue to make content and grow their channel if YouTube shuts down their revenue?
Whilst I understand your need to impose limits for having the videos reviewed this is going to result in unfair penalties on the smaller YouTubers. There are lots of great channels which produce "how to's" and Instructional videos etc. which are "slow burners". They don't get 1,000 views in a few days and then disappear. They do however hold their relevance over a long number of years.
It would appear that your solution is heavily weighted towards the "viral/ click bait" market whilst ignoring those who produce other types of videos.
May I suggest that more weight is built into the algorithm for the history of a channel and it's previous work. Someone who has an 8 year history of producing videos on wood working techniques should be given the "benefit of the doubt" or at least the ability to appeal if one of the videos is flagged as it would be "outside the norm" for their channel.It would appear that your solution is heavily weighted towards the "viral/ click bait" market whilst ignoring those who produce other types of videos.

This system is broken. It targets innocent channels (as well as the non-innocent of course) that do not break any guidelines. It's basically leading to channels like mine to losing revenue because I have to wait around half a day to get my video appealed and by then half of my views will be gone. My channel just uploads Electronic music, which does not break any guidelines. Could you please try to fix this issue?
As I asked in the thread made by Ryan (Fwiz), I guess I'll post them here: because there's absolutely no answers to the legimate questions posted in that post, and I don't understand why they were ignored. So, let's try again:
1) Why is the reason for a video deemed to be given limited monetization status hidden from the creator? With only one appeal to work with, sometimes the reason given regarding what is hitting the video is very, very unclear. For example: I've done a video on Resident Evil Revelations 2 Game Design. I have many other videos with no problems with that type of content, and this one does not show any horror elements (aka blood and guts), even if that were what would be causing some of the cases (which seems to be debatle). Right now, I have no clue on what exactly is causing the video to get hit, other then one common trend: the word evil in the title of videos having a pattern of demonetization (same with the Evil Within). But that's a guess. So here's a question: how is a creator supposed to understand how he's breaking the advertiser friendly guidelines, which are very vague in several cases, specifcally?
2) To further extend on that, how can you expect a creator to adjust if you don't give the information for #1? Creators like Lazy Game Reviews have been hit for seemingly no reason (a video on windows 98 apps somehow got hit, despite being friendly and educational)? If you're saying that appeals can help clarify the system.....wouldn't the opposite be true as well? That you may get false flags, and not leave a creator a way to warn your system that's learning incorrectly?
3) Have the reports of videos needing to be 5 year old friendly from several creators (Yammy, Magnaminx, etc) when getting responses from youtube support true when it comes to advertising in the future?
4)Is YouTube planning on getting more specific with the monetization guidelines in the immediate future (https://creatoracademy.youtube.com/page/lesson/advertiser-friendly)? Many of the guidelines are vague regarding the material in question, and leaves too many questions and too little examples of what is really ok or not. Take this section: " Video content that features highly sexualized content, such as video content where the focal point is nudity, body parts or sexual simulations, is not eligible for advertising". Here's the thing: what if the video in question is showing off a series of Tattoos in a mod for Skyrim? For some, tattooes can be sexual, as it shows bare skin on body parts. Is any tattoo fall into this category, even in the gaming world? Or not? Is it possible to provide more concrete examples of what are dos and dont's regarding that parameters?
5) Does a channel's history have any bearing on the nature of monetization going forward? The reason why I ask this question is simple, it's phrases like this in the advertising guidelines portion of the creator academy (https://creatoracademy.youtube.com/page/lesson/advertiser-friendly#yt-creators-strategies-4): "Balance videos that deal with more mature topics with others that might focus on more widely appealing topics". That seems to imply that focusing on videos that only look at mature topics, like video game violence, may have an affect on videos down the line.
6) Are guns in the content of a thumbnail, even if they are a discussion point at hand (let's say you're talking about a new CS:GO gun that was released) going to be a problem regarding monetization? This has shown mixed results in the community, with a majority of the videos seemingly getting hit, but not being 100%. Does context matter at all when it comes to thumbnails?
7) I just want this question to be answered so I can get clarification for those who seemed to question it: not tagging your video will most likely result in limited monetization, due to it not being able to place ads on it, correct?
8) Is there any way for a creator to see what percentage of ads are unavailable to them in certain videos? I understand that it's limited monetization, but it doesn't exactly say how much its limited. I'm assuming that in certain cases, one video could be slightly limited but still be perfectly fine for others (tattoos for example), while others would get strongly hit and only really have limited options available for them.
9) Is Youtube planning on doing anything regarding the timing element of the advertiser guidelines? Aka, gaming news channels for example are hit hard by this right now due to the fact that a majority of their money/monetization is important for keeping the news up to date and recent, and can't keep the video "unlisted" until an appeal regarding monetization is heard?

1)All my videos have the green dollar mark!
2) Starting on 16th of May my channel dropped 90% on earnings and 60+% on views - since youtube don't promote non monetized videos.
3) When i upload new video it shows ads for the first 24h or less, after that the video is dead(no more ads = no more views).
4) We wait 4 months this issue to be fixed. Always the same answer: we work on the issue.

is a new requirement from YouTube that each of the brand channel needs to
enable monetization in order to link to our associated website from info cards
and end screens even thou we have verified the meta tag?
We have tried to enable to monetization on our end, unfortunately we are still not able to place the link as it mentioned that URL not recognized as an associated website.
Hence, could you please advise are we supposed to achieve 10,000 views for the the brand channels in order to have monetization request to be approved and also to recognize the verified proerty as an associated website for info cards? Appreciate if you could advise as soon as you can as we have upcoming campaign goes live soon.

Because a video which has been demonetized doesn't show ads and therefore doesn't make any money. (I assume).
As always, google products updated and released with bugs and no idea how to fix them. Combine that with a help made out of normal users and you get this: a shitty platform.
This system is a disaster. I had a video sitting unlisted on my channel for nearly 48 hours, everything was fine with monetization until I was just about to make the video go live. Why was my video fine for nearly 2 full days, then rifht as I'm about to make it public, you limit the ads? So thinking the review would be swift I appealed... and now almost 3 days after said appeal on my unlisted video, it's STILL hasn't been reviewed? I have no problem uploading videos so they can properly be reviewed, but come on, you even said having unlisted videos get limited ads is to prevent the loss of revenue from a video that has the potential to get good traffic.
My channel has over 150,000 subscribers, I can't just sit around and have videos take days to review that are unlisted, I'd wind up never posting. Sorry to anyone I offend, but bigger channels need priority here. Anyone with at least 50,000 subscribers needs to get priority in the reviewing. We're the people that general do this for a living, we need to make this ad revenue and know that are videos are able to generate revenue as fast as possible. Your current system is a joke and is going to make your platform irrelevant.

Wow. Imagine that. A big company limiting the little guy. I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to create a new channel with this system. My videos are VERY family friendly. It's a vlog about being a stay at home dad with a special needs daughter. For some reason my last few videos have gotten the yellow icon, but since I only currently average 600-800 views, I'm just screwed. My first video to get hit with the yellow icon fortunately went over the 1000 view threshold and was immediately fixed, as I'm positive every other one would be too. I currently have 168 episodes, with a few that are over 30,000 views, and am just now reaching 1000 subs. This is very discouraging, as I don't attempt to clickbait viewers. I make videos for other special needs families that are just starting their path, to know that it's not all despair and heartache. I make my videos with integrity, and positivity, and know that eventually the fan base will grow organically, and quickly. Now I guess I just have to accept that my revenue will be severely limited by an imperfect "robot"? I've read the other posts in here and see no official responses, so I guess I'm just typing this to vent.......

This automated system is hurting all the small channels who can't reach 1K views in 7 days and don't have 10K subs. YouTube, please, you need to work with your content creators and not against them. If one of our videos get put into 'Limited' state, get in touch with us and work out how we could be whitelisted so that we don't have to spend our time worrying about it potentially happening to us again. Right now, we as content creators with small channels simply have no assurance or confidence whatsoever that YouTube cares about us at all.
Many of the content creators like myself are gamers who enjoy uploading videos of our favourite games, and spend hours editing, sprucing and enhancing our content for the enjoyment of our viewers. We are not people of controversy, nor do we make videos containing harmful or questionable subject matter. Please stop treating us as expendable collateral damage while you try to keep the advertisers happy, because the longer this goes on the more innocent Youtubers are going to get frustrated, jaded and burnt out.

Considering that Youtube refuses to do anything to help their creators, let me see if I can lend a hand. Please note that I'm not an official Youtube employee, I'm only another youtuber / tech reporter whose been following all these issues closely.
Based on the patterns I've seen, it may be keying off the word "gross" in the description. Specific "bad" words seem to trigger Youtube's algorithm, such as evil for example. Gross also seems to be a word that it keys off of from what I've seen from other viewers. I'm guessing that advertisters don't want to have their product associated with something "gross", which makes sense on a 10000 ft level. Except you know, CONTEXT., which Youtube's automatic portion of the algorithm seems to be unable to figure out. .

Sorry but how in the world is this humanly possible?? The number of videos I have to appeal for review would require about half a day's work PER WEEK for a human reviewer. And I'm just ONE creator. It seems to me it would require a team of thousands of reviewers to handle the gargantuan volume of appeals you must receive daily. By the way, I win every single appeal so Youtube is getting it wrong every single time. If you truly want to fix the system, GIVE US MORE INFORMATION about exactly what is triggering the demonetization. Help us help you. What an incredible waste of time and energy for all of us.

I am getting way more that a 1,000 views every HOUR. Requested review at least two hours ago at around 8,000 views. it is currently at 10.5K and climbing fast. I suppose YouTube will compensate me for the missed opportunity of monetization of those views. The fact that it's demonetized also makes the algorithm de-prioritize it, since it won't make any money for the channel hence YouTube as well. This is a loss on a loss on a loss. Fix this YouTube!

Hello! I recently made a video for my YouTube channel (which has almost 14k subscribers and over 2.1 million views) about gender violence and crimes committed against women, as a way of raising awareness to this social problem here in Ecuador, as well as a to try to send a message of peace and equality. But wouldn't you know it? YouTube flagged it and it isn't monetized. It was monetized for a day and then again it was demonetized. What gives? :( It's really disappointing because I'm not promoting violence. Quite the contrary: I'm trying to send a message for people to stop violence, and this video was apparently flagged for a pretty obvious mistake. I'm not complaining about the new process you guys have put in place (I think it's necessary), but I do believe there are little things like on this case where you could try to improve. That said, I do want to thank you guys at YouTube for all the great work and the opportunities you give us creators to thrive in your platform! :)

Mikor lejárt volna a 3 hónapbüntetés, érthetetlen módon kaptam még egy figyelmeztetést, ami a fiókom letiltását eredményezte! Kicsit furcsa!!!! Máig sem tudom, hogy miért kaptam hirtelen figyelmeztetéseket. És még a bent maradt 420 dolláromat sem kaptam meg!!!!!

Google really need to fix their monetization system, what on earth are you guys thinking? Even completly innocent and family friendly food-review channels are getting demonitized.
Its almost as if you are trying to wreck youtube on purpose. After google bought it its gotten worse and worse and worse, and with this demonitization and recent censor(yes its censoring) changes, it became very much worse.
I've been using youtube almost as long as it has existed. I will give you guys a advice though i severly doubt you will listen as your changes doesnt seem to be fueled by logic anyway; Reverse everything you have done the last year in regard of moneitzation and censoring. If you for some reason HAVE to censor political incorrect videos, then at least leave it at that. Dont demonitze everything like you are doing now, even food reviews, game reviews channels with 500k subscribers+ etc. completly family friendly gets demonitzed as default.

If you are going to demonetize a video, then you SHOULD NOT attach advertisements to that video! You are making money off that channel and the creator is not. I'm a subscriber of RawBeautyKristi, who has uploaded Halloween makeup tutorials. You demonetize them, yet an advertisement is attached. She has over 189,000 subscribers and climbing. Her two recent Halloween tutorials have over 34,000 views for the Pennywise tutorial and over 43,000 views for the Burned Witch tutorial. These are makeup tutorials for Halloween so I can understand them being flagged, however, this girl is losing money while waiting for review. This is NOT COOL YouTube!
Why are TheReportOfTheWeek's videos getting demonetized? Isn't his content exactly what Google is looking for? Just admit your machine learning isn't working in this situation and shut it off, shut down your bad bot, go back to manual, rework the machine learning on a select few, then roll out to 5% of users until it's ready for everyone.

Just heard YouTube yanked ads from the RT channel, with no prior notice. You want to look for blame for the election, try Kris Kobach's Crosscheck, voter suppression and outright INTERNAL hacking of voting machines. While you're looking for Russian stooges, Republicans are cheating in as many elections as possible, laughing at all the fools sniffing out Russian hacking and fake ads. You're being used, and you're taking it out on liberal websites. It might come back to bite you in the ass. You want a YouTube filled with fluff and Republicans, you're about to get it. Be careful what you wish for. And as far as who you're targeting, you're not fooling anyone.
Very unstable system. I think Youtube should get rid of it that's how bad it is! Almost all my videos are demonetized because of this and I have to wait to get ads to start showing on my videos again. I have ZERO community guideline strikes and ALL of my videos are ADVERTISER FRIENDLY. I already only make less than half of what I should be making from my videos and this is just the cherry on top. It would be helpful if you provided us with the list of key words YouTube is using that triggers these demonetization bots. As of now, most of the videos on my channel are demonetized (978 videos), and I was only able to have 2 videos reviewed because of the stipulation that a video needs 1,000 views in 7 days in order to be reviewed. All of these videos are advertiser friendly, but will never get reviewed because of this system.
This is a "guilty until proven innocent" system with no ability to prove our innocence. Please review the loss in revenue this has caused, make note of the percentage of demonetization errors that were made as you review videos during the appeal process, realize you've made a huge mistake and reverse the inexplicable damage you've done to the content creators who've spent years working hard to make your website what it is today.

The parameters for manual review are a joke. If you are not going to be able to review the videos of smaller parters - to whom every single penny of income from videos is important, then your system should not be flagging any videos from those partners. This current system is an absolute joke. I have had videos that are kid friendly flagged this week. Some of these videos have been on my channel and public for weeks or months. Plus there is no way for me to see an aggregate of the videos that have been flagged - like we have the section for copyright content. This is a cluster right now, and YouTube needs to get its act together to correct it.

My account was suspended/terminated by these bots and all I have received from theses imaginary people are an automated bot response to my appeal.

So if one asks a video to be looked at, the reviewer will ONLY either decide whether or not it is good enough to have ads, and that is all? They won't force the video to be removed completely by accident or because of some kind of personal preference?

Dear YouTube/Marissa. I am sure that you are doing the best you can to improve this process. It has been very damaging to my channel. I am a 76-year-old filmmaker with 906 YouTube posts of clips from my films which are largely documentaries about American and European history. Dozens of them have now been deemed not suitable by the automatic system. I have requested a review as I have 24 million views. So far none have been reviewed. Some have been waiting for several months. I have become discouraged about continuing to place videos on YouTube because the money that I make from advertising, though small by standards of some, helps me survive and make my next documentary. Is there anything else I can do?

We do this because we want to make sure that videos from channels that could have early traffic to earn money are not caught in a long queue behind videos that get little to no traffic and have nominal earnings.
Now let’s talk about our technology and advertiser-friendly guidelines:
We’ve heard questions about why the monetization status is applied so quickly after upload (including with unlisted and private videos). This is because in the first few hours of a video upload we use machine learning to determine if a video meets our advertiser-friendly guidelines. I would like to ask some question in regards my youtube channel. ive been uploading video in my channel sometime last year November. i was approached by the youtube copyright to make videos of slime. i have followed those instructions very closely. They also send me an email of what i should be doing in order to earn money with my video. ive did exactly what that has been required. i checked my account last august and notice there was an amount of 20000 USD. i was happy to see the progress. but not to get carried away, i decided to refresh the page to confirm that I’ve receive such amount of money and it still appears to be still there. after several days later ive checked my balance last august the fund dissappeared. i want to know what happened to the fund and i need a clear picture of whats happening. Why Im saying this is because youtube has been sending my emails on what type of video they need me to make. i wanna what is exactly happening. please look in to this case seriously. Looking forward for a reply from youtube. Thank you.
YouTube using the excuse of number of views or subscribers to a channel is complete BS. If a video is in compliance and it is incorrectly flagged, then YouTube needs to fix the issue ASAP because YouTube is causing the problem, and not the partner who is doing the work and expecting to receive revenue from that work.
If YouTube is unable to review videos from smaller partners, then YouTube needs to 1) exclude all smaller partners from being flagged by the system until YouTube is in a position where it can treat each and every partner equally and not be discrimatory against smaller partners or 2) allow all partners to unflag videos themselves until an actual complaint is lodged against said video by an advertiser.
I want an explanation as to what caused the following videos to be flagged and why they remain flagged even though they comply with the current guidelines for advertising. If this cannot be done, then I fully expect them to be unflagged and to be earning normal advertising revenue without a manual review.

You have completely deleted my channel, it was a channel for drawing and every thing was good, I did not violate any of the rules. All the music on it was free from youtube it's self, it has taken me 18 months to get 60,000 views in total on my channel and $3 away from making $100, so I can't be accused of pushing my channel inappropriately, if I did it wouldn't have taken me so long to almost reach $100. I have done nothing wrong, there is nothing I have done wrong, all my thumb nails are straight from my videos etc, there is nothing misleading, this is such a false claim against me and youtube haven't even sent me any proof as why they took my channel down. How is drawing eyes, lips and faces against youtubes rules, and waiting such a long long time to get to almost get paid, I say almost because you deleted my channel just before I reached $100 ad revenue. Losing even a bit of revenue is beyond frustrating as I don't make very much.
It's ridiculous how YouTube keeps demonetizing perfectly acceptable videos.
I actually had a video showing frogs and toads jumping around in a pond blocked, and now more videos are being blocked senselessly. My videos don't often get 1,000 views in 7 days, but it all adds up. You're killing this platform!
I have a suggestion for the demonetization process that I think may help everybody involved. If a video gets a strike, do not demonetize the video, but rather allow the ads and money to generate but be held in a pseudo escrow account. Allow the creator to appeal and, if found to be in error, give the money to the creator. If it is indeed in breech of policy, then the money should be donated to a charity (or group of charities). This will also help You Tubes PR because, if we're being honest, the current system is crippling some content creators and they're not able to combat this money loss outside of outside funding (sponsorship, crowdfunding, etc.). It would be a positive step in fostering good will between YT and its creators. This step would require an investment in the held money system, but think of the return: your creators are going to be assured that, in the event they get a strike, it won't be the end of the world. They simply appeal and the problem actually WOULD be fixed. The lost money isn't simply gone as it is now. Meanwhile, assuming the strike was legitimate, the publicity from the charitable donations would be fantastic social PR. Your shareholders get to feel warm fuzzies AND not see their bottom line drop out because it's not YT's money that went into the donation; it's the ill-gotten gains of a person who stepped out of bounds. The X-factor here is how the advertisers will feel about this decision. In a perfect world, they would feel similar to the previous statement-- happy that the money is being channeled into a positive place rather than perpetuating content that is counter to their image. I submit this: The content creator isn't who they're advertising to. They're advertising to the VIEWER. Viewership does not always mean an alignment with the message of the content. Someone watching may just like that creator and that creator made an error. They're sacrificing revenue in a knee-jerk reaction, and it's a poor move. As they say, no publicity is BAD publicity. Your brand logo in a bad situation is still your brand logo getting views, and potentially viral level views assuming the content is controversial enough to warrant the public at large turning their attention to it. Your brand gets the free bump in ad hits resulting in increased sales, and the creator responsible gets to watch their money go straight to fighting world hunger or something. This is a good move all around for the betterment of the platform, and I thank anyone reading this long suggestion for their time.

Hi, I am a small youtuber with about 530 subscribers and just recently I got hit with several of my videos being demonetized at random. I tried monetizing older videos and as soon as I do I’ll refresh the page and will receive the yellow dollar sign symbol. My videos aren’t at the threshold of 1,000 views but there is an obvious issue in my ability to monetize and there is not any restrictions for my channel on monetizing. My channel is a small one that makes art tutorials. I never swear in my videos or have any content whatsoever that could be deemed "non-advertiser friendly". To make matters worse I won't be getting ANY ad revenue ever again from my demonetised videos because you only allow videos with over a thousand views PER WEEK to be reviewed. As a small channel this screws me over big-time. The system is completely broken and prevents anyone from breaking into the video production business. This is so bad that I just wish I never started working with youtube. First of all. I uploaded 3 semi identical videos with a slight change to see if it is SUITABLE, 2 of them are NOT SUITABLE and 1 is suitable. They are kids stories. SO what is the difference and why. My channel has less than 1000 subs. And I upload daily. And most people that viewed once will not view it again since it is an audiobook. So those revenue will never be gained afterwards even if they went from not suitable to suitable in the future.. Unlike music, would they listen to a book again anytime soon? So can someone look into this issues? I love my subs, they are audiobook readers and listeners like me. I started doing this from scratch with less than 50 subs for over 6 months. Only recently I have been gaining more subs and now this.. This is just depressing.

I make craft videos and put a huge amount of work in, like everyone else. All my videos have have had a green icon up until now but my latest one has a yellow icon. There is absolutely nothing in the my videos that breaks the guidelines and I can't get a review unless I have 1000 in 7 days. I am a small channel and my videos build thousands of views over time - but not in 7 days. This is very disheartening for us small channel people who are working so hard and there isn't much point in putting so much effort into creating good content for YouTube any more.
Perhaps posting here could gain insight on what is currently my situation regarding the issue of monetization.
So just for a background, there was an apparent copyright claim on a video I made over a year ago, that somehow was myself as the claimant of copyright.
With a very suspicious email associated with the claim I had believed it to be an error or possible attack. Finally after months of sending feedback and trying to communicate about the matter, Oct 3rd I received a email stating that 10-14 business days after the reply I would either have a counter claim or from no response, have my video restored and all claims waived.
This is the current status of my account in the past 28 days, since and prior I have never had an instance where I was in violation or in a disciplinary action to my account, please, if

So.... I've been having this issues for a while and I really do not know why. Uploaded 22 videos. All except for 2 have yellow dollar signs. Only difference between the 2 is content information (chapters of the audio) but in terms of swearing or anything that would cause it to be yellow. I have no clue and what made it strange for me is why the other 2 is green since they are pretty much exactly the same. Tags, title and other things. I don't know. Machine automatically did this? Really strange. Oh I tested another 2 video. Exactly the same file with 1 little difference. And the difference is 5 seconds of no sound at the end. 1 is yellow and the other is green. The extra 5 sec of blank sound is green. There is really something wrong with this machine that does this. And Please FIX this. OR atleast tell us specifically what we need to do to not get this problem!!

How do we report a large company misusing copyright. We maintain an archive of public campaign appearances. These are videos distributed by the White House and the campaigns of campaign appearances. We do not monetize these.
However, Yahoo! keeps filing copyright notices and either blocking the video, or takes the advertising. We dispute and they invariably drop the claim, but they hold the video hostage, either via monetizing it or via blocking it, until they respond.
I've had three notices in the past week, all on videos of public appearances by Donald Trump in videos from the campaign. It's great they drop it, but someone needs to go through Yahoo!'s copyright claims and processes and clean out public domain. I can't be the only one receiving these.
I'm extremely upset about this. As someone else pointed out, this is heavily weighted to the click-bait channels. I was working on putting together a channel. Now there's no point to it. I'm a crafter and a cosplayer. All the videos that I would make involve glue guns and craft knives as well as mock guns and swords. My favorite videos that I've watched have all been demonetized because of mentioning these things. All my favorite history and gaming channels have all had their videos demonetized. Not because they say anything bad. But because history and gaming involve the mention of certain forms of violence. And they aren't click-bait so they'll never qualify for review. You are screwing over not only your uploaders, but also the people who enjoy what they produce. And what happens to all the money you no longer give to them? Don't claim they don't produce money because there ads are still there. This is just a way for you to make a bigger profit and to hell with everybody else

This morning I received an email from YouTube informing me that one of my videos had been flagged. I am new to YouTubing, however the video that was flagged is a whole .05 seconds and I even had it listed as private. I had a Near Death Experience last year and long story short I have been experiencing some "paranormal" activity inside and outside of our home since. One of our home outside surveillance cameras located at our front door captured an unusual object early one morning I believe around 3am or so. It is all of 5 seconds long video, it is "actual real footage captured" on a surveillance camera. I posted this 5 second video on YouTube and it was set to private, it is REAL Footage captured outside my front door, unlike some very bogus videos that I have seen on YouTube advertising where people are capturing ghosts and paranormals. My question is how can I get flagged for a 5 second real video image captured on a camera, that looks like a small truck or jeep in my front yard? No nudity, No bad language or not anything remotely close to that. It looks like an image of a truck or jeep. I am really confused about this because I have seen some really bad videos of people faking ghost and paranormals..........

I upload 2-6 interviews a day and many of them are being flagged as inappropriate for advertisers. I can assure you that they are not as we're only talking about music and how the songs were created. Your notice says that they will only be reviewed if the video gets 1000 views in a week, which mine probably won't. I have a channel where I review comic book series. I don't show any content from them, it's just me talking, I always wear appropriate clothing, and there's no language on the channel at all. It's probably the most user friendly comic channel there is. So why are all my videos getting flagged as soon as I upload them and not being fixed for over a day? This is getting ridiculous, every video I download gets demonetized within 24 hours and yet takes forever to be reviewed. So far, I have felt nothing but harassment and discrimination for being a small content creator. If this is a relationship then I am being abused and used for financial gain. So in a real life situation I would be pressing charges. This is unacceptable on so many levels. Imagine a band sets up a gig, admission is paid at the door, but the event planner decides that your music is too loud. Planner then decides to let open the doors. Only to find that oops, his hearing aid was turned up. Better start charging admission again. In a court of law, the planner would be paying for ALL that attended. Just think about the legal ramifications.
And now the request a review process isn't working at all. All my new videos have been getting the yellow demonetization symbol. I've been requesting a review and it goes my way in a day or so. Now the 'request a review' process isn't working. I can't even ask for a review. C'mon Youtube!
What a crock. Suddenly four of my videos are not advertiser friendly. Coincidentally two of them are very popular and none of the four contain links or bad video tags. Yep! To me it seems like a way for Youtube to get out of paying revenue. For example, my channel is fairly small. 12.5k subs. So I upload a new video and it might get a couple thousand views in a day. Then the yellow symbol shows up and my video makes nothing while it's still new. That's when I get the majority of my views. Then it takes a full day or so before they look at the video and approve it. So by the time it's approved for ads is when my views taper off to nearly nothing. It REALLY puts the hurts on small channels.

Been experiencing some very odd behavior with the "Limited to No Ads" monetization system. To put it simple, I upload a video, it will be monetized for several hours and then at some point it will get hit with the "Limited to No Ads" monetization. Thousands of my subscribers watch the video, and then the video gets put back on normal monetization. I don't even have to request a manual review! It just goes back to normal. It's almost like YouTube knows the key moment to not run ads so I make no money.
Why is this happening? This is utterly unfair. I make content that is appropriate for all ages, no cursing, no sexual content; the videos I make are just gameplay videos a Video Game rated T for Teen.Same here. My videos will be fine for a while then when I'm getting peak views the video will be hit with the yellow symbol. I'll appeal and a day or so later it's okay again. Seems like a great way for Youtube to save money. They're still getting paid by the companies shelling out money for ad placement but the kicker is, they don't have to pay us as much because of a bogus system that unfairly demonetizes us.
You are all total idiots, really. If you get less money it's all because you get fewer ads (or none). This means YouTube does not play ads on your video, so they don't make any money either. Yes, it's a shitty and broken system, but it's all about YouTube staff incompetence, not a secret way for YouTube to make money. They are just bad at automating things.

That's not quite how it works genius
It's exactly how it works. You only get money from YouTube red, that's the only monetization available when you have the yellow sign. You get ads on your vids, you get a revenue and YT gets about 45% of that revenue. You get no ads, youtube gets no money.
Actually that isn't totally true. YouTube does only get money on ads that are played. By restricting what videos get ads they can court top dollar advertisers for studio named channels. In addition, they can use demonetized small creators to pull people in, and then advertise larger more popular or media creators on users feeds and gain more eyeballs on the videos they have ads on.
While it is incompetence, it's not total incompetence, YouTube is angling to become the next big stream supplier. (They have already started doing this.) They assume creators will keep posting videos even if they don't get paid because nobody has created a real competitor. If somebody would, YouTube would become the next MySpace.
Why is this video "not suitable for most advertisers"? It has less than a minute of "road kill" from a considerable distance. Are you trying to claim that most of the advertisers on YouTube are thinking, "Oh, some viewers saw my ad on a video with a dead deer, so they will think we like killing deer, so we can't advertise on this video"? That sounds ridiculous. There should be no reason why any advertiser wouldnt want it's ads on this video.

I am totally going to solve everyone's issue RIGHT NOW! I FOUND THE PROBLEM! All you have to do is switch the thumbnail, edit your description & change some tags. It will go back to green after a minute, I have been doing this for over 2 weeks now. It just clicked in my head when I fixed another video that was demonetized for 1 hour this morning. Trust me everyone, this will WORK 100%. I know Youtube is trying their best to fix this issue, but instead of complaining about it, find the problem, don't use those tags/custom thumbnails and improve your game. I wasn't really planning on figuring this out, but now I have, hope this help everyone! <3 Make sure if you have any words that could be picked up as bad by the AI, TAKE THEM OUT!
I agree with you. but in this case, they are fair. if someone is making youtube videos with consistency, they should have 10k subscribers in their hand.
And a person with 10k subscribers has the freedom to request a manual review while keeping the video in unlisted section. They have to keep the community in right track so i agree with this point but I agree with you as well.

YouTube keeps our eggs and enjoys the benefits of our labor, while we are forced outside the house to fend for ourselves.
What's going to happen is that the hens are going to grow weary of this process very quickly and stop going back inside the henhouse.
Instead, we're going to seek out alternative support for our content where this kind of nonsense is not a recurring issue and we can be compensated properly and timely for the incredible effort we put into our channels.

Once more, the algorithm has decided that my video, which is of nothing more than cooking a dish from a country SOMEHOW is not eligible for advertising, simply because it contains the name of a country. And because it is not -- nor, likely never will -- achieve 1,000 views in a week, you are once again saying it will likely NEVER be reviewed under this arbitrary policy. I find this fundamentally unfair, as I am consistently doing everything I can to stay within your advertiser guidelines and yet get punished time and again now.

Because of the continued issues I will absolutely never become a creator. This is bad in so many ways. Watching people that counted on YouTube for income get demonetized, remonetized, then DEMONETIZED AGAIN all within 15 minutes... It's just too disheartening.

It has been said you have to put it on hold before you publish, that's bullshit because my videos became not advertisement friendly the moment they are published.

I'm among the many who also am having quite un-controversial, family friendly videos flagged by your algorithm. You are limited in man hours to review these flagged vids that request a manual review, and as stated in the *many* replies to this, those with less than 1,000 views in 7 days have little to no chance of getting it manually reviewed. But, I don't believe in complaining without offering an alternative solution. Here it is:
1) When we upload a video, in the "monetization" section, give us a box to check that assures we have read the "ad friendly" guidelines, and that yes, our video is "ad friendly".
2) If the YouTuber has certified that it's "ad friendly", give them the benefit of the doubt, and allow ads to run indefinitely.
3) Give viewers a way to flag videos that they feel are offensive, too controversial, of a sexual nature, etc.
4) If a video gets flagged a number of times (maybe more than just once, in case of trolls), *then* have the algorithm click on and let your program review the video.
5) IF the algorithm deems it is also "not suitable for most advertisers", then at that point, a number of humans plus your algorithm deems it inappropriate, and feel free to remove the ads.
6) If a YouTuber certified the video as "ad friendly" but it was flagged by humans and your algorithm, then that YouTuber gets an "ad friendly strike". Perhaps after 5 strikes or some other reasonable number, they lose the privilege of monetization on their channel.
7) YouTubers who receive a strike this way can request a manual review of their video if they feel the human viewers and the algorithm has made a mistake.
8) Make it clear to advertisers that this will be the system YouTube will be using, and if they are uncomfortable with that, they need not purchase ads. (I think YouTube, the amazing platform that it is, will NOT financially suffer from this decision. Few advertisers would feel this is too risky to allow their ads run.)
Why this is better:
1) It doesn't hurt the little guy who is making ad friendly videos, but currently, is having them wrongly flagged.
2) Rather than waiting for an algorithm to learn, the YouTubers will be forced to learn what vids are ad friendly, and what is not, if they want to continue making revenue.
3) This would *greatly* reduce the amount of man hours that are being used to review the currently wrongly flagged videos, and would have videos have to trigger certain criteria before YouTube employees need to spend valuable time reviewing definitely family friendly vids.
4) Early vids, even from small YouTubers, will still be able to make ad revenue, as they won't wrongly be flagged, which helps them, and helps YouTube make more revenue. Dollah dollah bills, y'all.

After 15 videos deemed 'Not suitable for all advertisers' then all 15 videos deemed 'suitable' upon manual review. Only to still be getting hit with the yellow icon on videos that have just been released based on similar topics to all the ones deemed suitable. My videos are based on a cartoon. It indicates to me that the 'system' isn't really learning anything.
Surely, the percentage of videos overturned should contribute to future videos being flagged, If you get 100% of say 10 videos overturned by human review, you should start to get the benefit of doubt before the machine slaps the yellow icon on a new video.
Also, if you keep flagging videos that continue to pass human review, and this happens say 10 times, we should be emailed on what exactly is the link between the videos, titles or tags that are causing them to get tagged in the first place. This would be constructive!

All my videos get desmonetized and after 2/3 days they get the monetization back. The problem is that i do daily videos, and after 2/3 days, everyone had seen the videos so how the hell can i work with youtube this way? YouTube always conveniently leaves out the part that if you are not a big time channel, then you can go f*ck yourself, as far as YouTube is concerned. Because you have no way of appealing until you have already lost the revenue from the fist 1000 views (plus however long it takes to get reviewed and reinstated) so for many small channels, that is ALL the revenue. And the videos that are getting demoneitzed are nothing even REMOTELY unsuitable for advertising. I had SEVERAL that were limited that were nothing more than stray cats hungrily eating food I gave them. No audio other than the sound of he cats eating. So no talking. Noting that could be considered political (let's face it...far LEFT commentary is fine..but not conservative politics) and nothing that would be considered to adult oriented. Just cats eating. But I guess advertisers don't want that. At least according to YouTube.

I agree with that! My videos were getting around 100 000 to 120 000 views in 24 hours and after this new algorithm they dropped to 60 000 / 80 000 views. It's a news channel and every video gets demonetized and after my appeal (48h/72h latter) they get monetized, but at this time, 70 000 to 90 000 people have seen the video with no ads.
I'm getting around 3 million views a months and the revenue is around 100/120$ less the % of the network. Its ridiculous :s

I've just tried uploading a video. It's not for profit portfolio piece that I want easy access to through YouTube so I can show it to prospective employers when needed. But I've been hit with a copyright infringement for the royalty free song I purchased a licence for. Now I understand that this should be sorted 'within 30 days' via an appeals process, but ethically, I do not believe it to be acceptable to go straight to making an accusation, which must be resolved with an appeal.
Guilty until proven innocent are the words that come to mind.
I'll admit, the visual content does skirt along the boundaries of fair use, but as soon my video becomes monetised, I'll be definitely breaching copyright in another area. Ironically, in this way Youtubes algorithm could have in fact encouraged me to COMMIT copyright infringement if I'd simply ticked the box 'Sure, monetise this vid for the musician'.
Effectively, Youtube's Algorithm has deemed me guilty, then dropped the workload onto the musician to sort the appeal. I understand that YouTube mustn't have the smallest workload in the world, but as far as I can see, there is not a SINGLE way to honestly upload a video with pre-purchased access to licenced music without being accused of copyright infringement. In other words, you're guaranteed to be accused of copyright infringement if you use someone else's music (Assuming it's in the database).
And yes, the accusation IS that I am guilty of something, because it's forcing me straight into an appeals process for something that is considered a misdemeanour at least and a crime at worst. There is no means of getting around this, no additional box you can check and document upload field. No, place receipt number and website here for verification. There is no option to prove legitimate ownership in the first place. This is also ethically hollow for another reason. There is no means of guaranteeing that the original artist will bother in verifying my licence is genuine. No, this is up to YouTube. If youtube accuse me and I have a receipt proving I have the licence, that's it. Technically then, any licence for royalty free music is virtually voidable on youtube.

My YouTube channel has had its livestreaming ability revoked due to a stream that was flagged for inappropriate content. It was a stream of a hockey game in a hockey rink. This is a very flawed new system! I am a relationship coach (frequently seen on Good Morning America) all my videos are to help people in dating, breakups, love, and sometimes sex. I am very conservative and there is nothing racy or inappropriate in any of my videos but this new system has flagged everything in my 223 videos (over 4 years) that says sexy or sex, even though my opinion defaults to the conservative side, and now everything that I upload even though it doesn't say sex or sexy. I'm working to grow my channel but this system is unfair!!! If YouTube wants to continue with this then hire more people to better serve the little guys who make videos solely to help people!! Not everything should be about money!

Honestly, it'd be muy PLEASURE to send any monetization to every single owner of the rights of the tracks I mix... I mean, I bought my records used, so I SHOULD pay back the producer and the label, right? IS there a way, to contact in advance BEFORE posting, to arrange something? I am seeing a huge issue with review consistency. Example - I might have 3 videos in review, all 3 will have the same type of content and yet 2 will be deemed friendly and the third will be determined not ad friendly after human review even when the substance of the videos are the same which makes no sense.
It leads me to the conclusion that it all depends on WHO reviews it and maybe they let their personal feelings get in the way of doing their job correctly.

Guilty until proven innocent with no way to prove innocence. Yeah, that sure sounds fair to me.... NOT! Add to that that there's actually no reason given for what you (your video) is guilty of? I've never, ever, received an e-mail telling me that a video has been flagged, let alone why. I've reviewed your guidelines over and over and over and don't understand what could possibly be in any of my videos (or their titles, thumbnails, tags, etc. etc.) that would cause them to be flagged. While you are protecting older and larger channels, you are frustrating and turning away newer channels -- channels that could possibly be huge in the future. I suspect, as with most things in life, there's a pyramid effect here -- many, many more channels under your 1000 view/week limit than over it. So, with your arbitrary limit, you are ignoring the vast majority of your community. You do realize, don't you, that the end result of this policy will likely be the demise of YouTube? Frustrate and turn away the new content creators and what will you be left with when the old-timers gradually fade away? NOTHING! Especially when the audience dries up because the newer content can be found elsewhere. Wake up YouTube! This whole process is a huge failure!
YouTube/Google... you may want to have your attorneys review your very DISCRIMINATORY review policy. If the complaints here are any indication, many, many YouTubers are losing ad revenue due to the combination of a faulty AI coupled with said review policy. Most videos get a bulk of their viewing within the first 24-48 hours of uploading. If it's flagged right away, it has lost most of its ad revenue potential. This is kind of smelling like class action material to me.... but then, I'm no lawyer. But, If you don't understand the principles of playing fair, maybe you'll understand the potentially negative implications of a legal battle? This situation is RIDICULOUS!. Oh, and btw, I've spent hours now researching this issue and possible things I can do to "fix" my videos -- all to no avail... add the loss of my time to loss of ad revenue. If you have an internal process that you don't have enough staff to handle, that's YOUR problem. It shouldn't be my problem or that of any of the other users. Obviously, your process is very broken. So FIX IT without making your users pay for your problem! If there's something specific about any of my videos that makes it "unsuitable for most advertisers"... please let me know what that specific item is so I can fix it. I sure can't figure out what it would be with the information that's been provided. If you can't do that, then don't flag the video! Changing the flag at a later time/date is not acceptable -- revenue has already been lost by that time!

To start off it was monetized.....then demonetized @150 plays....then it got remonetized at 200....
Then after it being re-monetized for 1500 plays ,IT GETS DEMONETIZED, AGAIN from 1700 views - 3k....

I've had hundreds (literally) of videos move from yellow to green. I've received four e-mails. I don't think that system works.
I have to go manually go through all affected videos and make sure they're monetised properly (they're often not).

I mostly do video tributes about famous women, especially actresses and models, and I don't know what is/are the word/s that makes them instantly flagged with the yellow icon, but I can assure you that i can't describe Marilyn Monroe without saying that she was a "sex symbol", or Claudia Schiffer without referring to her as a "supermodel". Why I don't understand is why for nearly 24 hours my newest videos have already been monetized, and then all of a sudden they go to "Limited or not Ads". If your bots have already scanned the video and approved it for monetization why is it all of a sudden now not suitable after being up for over 24 hours??? You should have 1000 subscriber and >10,000 views to get approved. If i am not mistaken. If not, you have to wait another 1 month to reapply.
Since when did it say that you need 1000 subscribers, all you need is 10,000 views and your expected to get an email within a week if you approved or not. Went to socialblade and see that that a Vine founder is or is planning to work on the new version of it (Vine 2.0). Hope that relaunches in which it may give me a better option!

This system is severely flawed. I have several series on my channel, all of which have been getting flagged. Everything from Minecraft to 7 Days to Die. There is no cursing in the vids, no complaining, just me trying to be positive for my viewers. Each video flagged, I appeal, and the appeal is won. Maybe it's time to have someone check on these types of channels personally and remove the constraints. This is precisely what I was going to post. I must say that YouTube usually re-monetizes my videos after a day even though it doesn't have 1,000 views. But their stated review policy would indeed kill the small youtuber community if they did go by it. So far they haven't at least in my case. Most of my videos do not get 1,000 views ever. They are generally around the 300 view or less range but since I only have 400 subscribers I'm perfectly fine with that.
But I am really wondering at this automated process. Every one of my videos for the past 5 have been demonetized shortly after going public. It's like they don't even bother looking and just automatically demonetize them after a time. Then I hit review and after a day it gets re-monetized.
What I've started doing is making it public then monitoring it since they don't even send you any notifications or emails when they do that. When I see it's been demonetized I set it to private, request a manual review and just wait and once they re-monetize it I make it public again. But that may cause confusion so I'll try something else. I will set it to private and just wait a day or two in order to see if it gets demonetized. Then make it public and see if they THEN demonetize it. That will show me that they have something malicious going on. A system designed to hurt as much as possible the small youtuber revenue.
Twitch is great and I'd leave in a heartbeat except for the game I am playing the community is all right here sadly. Also Twitch doesn't seem to be all that great for videos which is all I do at the moment. No streaming yet but if YouTube continues down this path I may switch to streaming over there and just put videos up here for fun.

Youtube can possible also publish the worst keywords avoided by most advertisers so content creators can avoid making contents with those topics.
Now major television networks & movies can have full creativity to use all kinds of topics from politics, violence, sexual, incest, terrorism and more to create their television shows...with the only warnings are at the beginning of the shows...but advertisers still flocks to them like game of thrones, the walking dead, house of cards, seals, brave, exorcist and many many more.
Youtube, you have to be better than this. Do not punish small content creators just because you cannot get your algorithm right, push the work to advertisers...and that will be way easier.

Once a video is found to be advertiser friendly, willyoutube be refunding the money the creator has lost due to youtubes absured system screwing people over for no reason?
I posted videos reviewing flashlights. Yet all three were flagged as inappropriate for advertisers. Flashlight reviews. Over the last few years the people running youtube seem to be tryingharder and harder to ruin the site. Do they just want top ten lists, cat videos and reaction channels now and everything else forced off?Even after 10 days of submitting my application for enabling monitization after 10k views on my newly created channel, there is no response(email) from Youtube and still it says "Account status: In review. We'll email you when your channel is approved. We'll email you a decision, usually within a week."

This problem maybe because of someone they acted not good, comment spam, or report to close my channel while my channel have many visitors or subscribers day by day. I recently made a video for my YouTube channel about gender violence and crimes committed against women, as a way of raising awareness to this social problem here in Ecuador, as well as a to try to send a message of peace and equality. But wouldn't you know it? YouTube flagged it and it isn't monetized. It was monetized for a day and then again it was demonetized. What gives? :( It's really disappointing because I'm not promoting violence. Quite the contrary: I'm trying to send a message for people to stop violence, and this video was apparently flagged for a pretty obvious mistake. I'm not complaining about the new process you guys have put in place (I think it's necessary), but I do believe there are little things like on this case where you could try to improve. That said, I do want to thank you guys at YouTube for all the great work and the opportunities you give us creators to thrive in your platform! :)

I have videos Im sure dont break the rules.. my best clicked one is on a bigfoot image I enhanced https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q-U7NirA2Y and Im sure theres nothing that should offend.. I suspect its flagged cos people saying it looks like a KKK hoody.. but Im small channel and I never get 1000 views in 7 days on it.. maybe a month so I never meet that target.. and 1000 could be $1. what would help when you hire those 10000 more people to check BOT results. but you could have instead of 1000 have a deduct $1 for quick review from balance instead..or a button to ask BOT to recheck after changes.. in case its a title or tag change
also why cant the BOT tell us what keywords or section the flagging happen.. we are blind to what it detected.. to cant learn or fit it if we did slip up or spook the bot with a word.
3rd option.. have bot blank out the section of video with censored? on the screen. then we could see also where it found a issue.

I have been demonitised with a cause which is a re-appload of a content without autorisation from the owner, but i am the only owner for the videos, i am a film maker and producer know in the audiovisuel fieled in my contrey, apparently there is my production in your plateforme published by other channels which i will not call creators cuz they coppy my work which i had spend a quart of my life making it, and they appload it to YOUTUBE, i have many copyright claims to many channels which had ofcourse delete my videos based on my claim, but today i have an issue with youtube which had demonitise my videos all of them mean my channel is out making a cent out if videos and it audience, and i did not accepte or i refuse to accuse me of reapploading of videos of someone else i have a big archive in my carrear i do not need any one else videos, i have more then 5 years of products for publishing in my archive. i do totaly refuse to the excuse giving by the YOUTUBE systeme or robbot answering i tried the french support but my case is not solved yet. i Do totaly understand th ecopyright and the content guidelines worldwide not only here and i am totaly against pirating peoples work i do not accepte it to my work and i will not accepte to someone else. i hope i brought you close to my issue and hope to find a solution as soon as possible.

I know probably no one will read this but lately all my videos are getting the yellow monetization button minutes after I publish them. I've never made any content that are against the guidelines and everytime I ask the video to be reviewed, it is reviewed as within the guidelines. I feel very discouraged because when you say my video is not up to standarts, I receive less access and my channel is very small, so I can use all the help I can get.
Why cant you give some channels like mine, that are never outside guidelines a break and make an algorithm that takes that into account. I honestly believe the only reason this happens is because I live in The Netherlands and I often use "Holland" as a tag. But I've never talked about any issues that might be remotely against the guidelines!

Excellent case Splatcat. I only wish they would listen. The majority of traffic to Youtube is spread across millions of small youtube channels. While one viral video might get a million views, a million small channels getting one hundred views in that same time period will result in 100 million views. It really is simple math. Youtube seems to forget that, youtube was started for the little guy to be able to "Broadcast Yourself" (original youtube slogan), and that it is the little guy that is the backbone of youtube.
Without the small creator, all youtube would have is commercial content that you could watch anywhere else.

I have a channel that blew up on Cryptocurrency. It has well over 200k views and it shows that I am owed over $900 of a payout. When I went to try to get paid and set up my adsense account, everything was fine and it went into review. I believe by mistake that I set up 2 adsense accounts but I only attached my youtube channel to one of them. The other one is just sitting there with no monies in it. I haven't uploaded a video in awhile and after it finished processing the monetization symbol was GREEN and moments later when I started to edit and add cards it changed to POO YELLOW and now that video is demonetized. That video may not reach 1,000 views in a timely manner (7 days) so then what? I'm uploading videos and getting nothing. That really motivates me to continue. Meanwhile my video did not violate anything that is considered unsuitable.
Further I'm not a newbie with zero subscribers trying to make money. My channel has no history of guideline violations of any sort.

My associated website has been and is still verified, but now I can't link it. This will create problems for families viewing my videos to easily get to my website. A few weeks ago, we started expanding appeals to creators for videos with fewer ads by rolling out new, yellow monetization $ icons. More info is in our original forum announcement here. The new icons are still rolling out to all creators—it’s gradual to ensure there are no technical issues with the update. For more information about both the previous and new icons, check out this monetization icon guide for details.
We’ve received a lot of questions about the appeals process and the technology evaluating videos. Below we’ve shared more detail about these topics, as well as the steps we’re taking to improve the roll out:
Let’s talk about the appeal process:
When you request a review (e.g. appeal the current monetization status), the video gets looked at by an expert reviewer (not a computer) who spends time watching the video and reviewing the video’s content, title and metadata against our advertiser-friendly content guidelines. We know these reviews are important to you and your revenue, so we strive to review as many videos as humanly possible, as quickly and accurately as possible.
Because we’re a platform that has hundreds of millions of videos, we have to set parameters around which appealed videos get reviewed first to make sure we review those videos that are getting substantial traffic. Right now, our team of expert reviewers look at appealed videos with more than 1,000 views in the past 7 days. If you want to check the monetization status before making the video public, you can upload it as unlisted or private. If you think we got it wrong and your channel has more than 10,000 subscribers, you can appeal, and we will review your unlisted/private video regardless of view count. We do this because we want to make sure that videos from channels that could have early traffic to earn money are not caught in a long queue behind videos that get little to no traffic and have nominal earnings.
Now let’s talk about our technology and advertiser-friendly guidelines:
We’ve heard questions about why the monetization status is applied so quickly after upload (including with unlisted and private videos). This is because in the first few hours of a video upload we use machine learning to determine if a video meets our advertiser-friendly guidelines. This also applies to scheduled live streams, where our systems look at the title, description, thumbnail and tags even before the stream goes live. We know our system doesn’t always get it right, so if you see a yellow icon in your Video Manager and feel our automated systems made a mistake, please appeal. As noted above, an appeal gets sent to a human reviewer and their decisions help our systems get smarter over time. Deleting the video and re-uploading won't help.
If you’re not sure why so many of your videos have the new yellow icon, review our advertiser-friendly content guidelines, not just against the content of the video, but also the title, description, thumbnail and tags. Additionally, blank videos or videos without a title or metadata likely don’t provide enough context to help our systems understand if the content is suitable for all advertisers, so it may lead to a yellow icon status for the video. For additional resources, see these best practices and the new YouTube Creator Academy course.
And a technical issue we’re working to fix:
We’ve seen a few reports that the icon and text in Video Manager is not updating right away after a successful appeal (turning from yellow to green). We’ve already made some improvements to this so it updates more quickly. If you appeal and receive an email from us that the video is “suitable for all advertisers” then the icon should turn from yellow to green soon!

Just an update and maybe some encouragement for others. Today my video was re-monetized with a green dollar sign. No it did not achieve 1,000 video views but it must've been manually reviewed.

Thank you for this update.
We have three channels that we manage and in 2015 our ability to monetize was taken away. I tried appealing a number of times but was rejected on every occasion so I thought I would post on this forum to hopefully shed some light on the situation.
I posted a query in August 2017 In the replies I was greeted by a rude volunteer who basically said don't bother and a more helpful volunteer that indicated sending multiple appeals sometimes resulted in YouTube / google ad sense marking those requests as spam.
Just to be clear those requests to get our monetization were spread out between months.
We obviously would like to get the ability to monetize back at some point and probably wouldn't enable it until any of the channels started to take off.
Any insight on how we can attempt to get our monetization back would be appreciated.
On a side note our channel with the most subscribers just under 1200 it seems that people that actively subscribe and comment on the videos don't get notifications as to when we upload a new video.

Youtube still isn't fixing the "copyright claimant gets the monetization" loophole. I'm pretty much done posting videos here unless the current false copyright strike on my account is removed. It's not ok that ACCUSATIONS of copyright infringement are enough that the accusing party gets to keep all the money. In no way does it make sense that a punishment is being administered BEFORE an appeals process.

I’ll just continue making videos and be happy doing YouTube for nothing, just to show them that small youtubers cannot be defeated. I also learnt that when your video goes viral (if your lucky), places like The Ladbible use your work and get millions of views whilst you only get 60k views!

Most of my videos get flagged for no reason whatsoever every single time I upload them. Last time there was a self-made music with no lyrics or any queetionable title or pic and it still got insta-demonetized. I always do an appeak and most of my videos get approoved after a day despite not having 1k views which is great but some still don’t get reviewed with 5k etc views because they don’t grow anymore or yet. Also having small channels with the 10k view monetization limit and these mistakely flagged videos it discourages me a lot to upload on yt. You should think of a policy that defends smaller youtubers who don’t have rapidly growing videos maybe make a less strict algorythm for ppl underk 50k subs or something.

I tried to monetize my channel, I created my ad sense account, but it then informed me I already had an ad sense account associated with my account which isn't true, turns out its my fathers old ad sense account they were referring to, so I had him cancel his account in hopes to get mine up and running, but then I get a email from you tube saying my monetization for my channel was disapproved. because I don't have a valid AdSense account, and now it shows in my channel that monetization is disabled, all because my father created an ad sense account years ago on completely different account then mine, I assume they associated our AdSense together because we share the same computers and ip address, this doesn't seem very fair, anyone else run into this issue

What good is it when it still doesn't work and yet us innocent small creators are the ones getting hit while the "preferred, false and misleading click bait, google, corprorate trending page, and all the other people who are protected by YouTube and Google just do whatever they want. Perfect example is the fact that so called fan boys and fan girls are employed in YouTube as reviewers and are protecting these people who post violence, suicide, dangerous acts, child exploitation and so much more and it's all fully monetized. I'm having gvideos stated as not advertiser friendly and it's NFL madden 18 gameplay video and predictions so how is it not advertiser friendly and yet all the trash posted by the YouTube favourites and corporate sponsored is fully monetized without question??

Us honest creators don't break the rules, use false and misleading click bait, fake gift card scams like all your favourites do and yet we are punished while they just get handed everything and a free pass always and don't come back with the "We take actions against creators" as Logan Paul and others are laughing at what you did as you haven't done anything as they are still making BANK off their content. Punishment should fit the crime and you should've terminated Logan Paul, Jake Paul and all the rest who break the rules and policies on YouTube.

I am curious about this TODAY: our latest video got flagged 24 hours since it was posted. I immediately appealed. I have to admit - the appeal process, even for tiny-tiny-tiny new channels like ours do not take a lot of time - very pleased. However... Since we started THIS channel (Nine's Catudio), we gained a couple of subscribers from among our close friends (very close friends). So, here was my phone conversation today with one of them: "oh, by the way! Nine (the kitten featured) is going to be a big star! Me: "How so?" She: 'did you see the ad his video runs?" Me: "No, I can't see them, I access the videos on "Edit" mode only, as per AdSense agreement..." closer to the topic - I saw that that particular video was already monetization limited and had appealed. How can the ads still run then and we get no profit, but the yellow icon? Somebody, explain THAT to me. Everything else makes sense, despite the inconvenience.

Let’s talk about the appeal process:
When you request a review (e.g. appeal the current monetization status), the video gets looked at by an expert reviewer (not a computer) who spends time watching the video and reviewing the video’s content, title and metadata against our advertiser-friendly content guidelines. We know these reviews are important to you and your revenue, so we strive to review as many videos as humanly possible, as quickly and accurately as possible.
Because we’re a platform that has hundreds of millions of videos, we have to set parameters around which appealed videos get reviewed first to make sure we review those videos that are getting substantial traffic. Right now, our team of expert reviewers look at appealed videos with more than 1,000 views in the past 7 days. If you want to check the monetization status before making the video public, you can upload it as unlisted or private. If you think we got it wrong and your channel has more than 10,000 subscribers, you can appeal, and we will review your unlisted/private video regardless of view count. We do this because we want to make sure that videos from channels that could have early traffic to earn money are not caught in a long queue behind videos that get little to no traffic and have nominal earnings.
Now let’s talk about our technology and advertiser-friendly guidelines:
We’ve heard questions about why the monetization status is applied so quickly after upload (including with unlisted and private videos). This is because in the first few hours of a video upload we use machine learning to determine if a video meets our advertiser-friendly guidelines. This also applies to scheduled live streams, where our systems look at the title, description, thumbnail and tags even before the stream goes live. We know our system doesn’t always get it right, so if you see a yellow icon in your Video Manager and feel our automated systems made a mistake, please appeal. As noted above, an appeal gets sent to a human reviewer and their decisions help our systems get smarter over time. Deleting the video and re-uploading won't help.
If you’re not sure why so many of your videos have the new yellow icon, review our advertiser-friendly content guidelines, not just against the content of the video, but also the title, description, thumbnail and tags. Additionally, blank videos or videos without a title or metadata likely don’t provide enough context to help our systems understand if the content is suitable for all advertisers, so it may lead to a yellow icon status for the video. For additional resources, see these best practices and the new YouTube Creator Academy course.
And a technical issue we’re working to fix:
We’ve seen a few reports that the icon and text in Video Manager is not updating right away after a successful appeal (turning from yellow to green). We’ve already made some improvements to this so it updates more quickly. If you appeal and receive an email from us that the video is “suitable for all advertisers” then the icon should turn from yellow to green soon!

Your appeal process is not working. I have requested a manual review on some videos that have over 1000 views and no review has taken place in several weeks. After reading through comments, it does not appear that Youtube is responding to anything. I know YouTube is not responding to feedback.
Every video that was manually reviewed was approved for monetization so I know my videos are advertiser friendly. Please get your act together YouTube. Fix your issues and leave those of us that are not violating any guideline alone.

Everyone asking for monetization... YouTube has changed its policy today. Now you require 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours watchtime in one year for monetization. That's not fair YouTube my videos are 2-3 minutes how can I get 4000 hours watchtime in one year with only 700 subscribers. I can get 1000 subscribers in a year but I am not confident about the watch time. My channel will soon get demonetized.

This is unacceptable by the copyright laws of our country to randomly choose someone's video's and discriminate against my account on the reason that there are not enough hits. I'd like proof that you are not discriminating my account because of disability and request a hearing for this action due to the fact that you are making this decision against my account and not that of any others due to the fact that I am dissabled and rely on some of this income to earn in order to meet my eligibility requirements as a disabled American protected by HIPPA and disability compensation that I receive both state and federally as well. I protest the fact that NOW Youtube has decided to cease and dissist with any of my compensations for royalties on your system due to the fact you are discriminating and have for some time allowed me to have royalties that I have never seen via check or through YOUTUBE credit. I have never received any compensation for my videos on YOUTUBE and never saw any of the monetizations you claim I have received. This is unfair and I will complain and take these matters to a higher court if you don't reconsider and reinstate any and all of my compensation for videos that I have on your channels. If you remove monetization from my videos then I expect you will no longer use any of them for your advertising campaigns placing ads on my videos. Make sure no ads are included on any of my videos and DO NOT continue to advertise using my copywriter material that you use to make profits for your channel. You mentioned via email there is a new threshold of 1,000+ subscribers, and 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months.
I currently have 1,700+ subscribers and according to my analytics, from 01/10/2017 to 01/09/2018 I had 224,000 minutes (or 3,733 hours of watch time.) I would also like to let you know that I have been expanding my social media that tie back to my YouTube channel. I created an Instagram last year that has gained over 2,400 followers to date and a twitter that is only a few months old with over 1,600 followers. Both social media platforms tie back to the YouTube channel, and in time they will dramatically help viewership.
I hope you can take my thoughts into consideration, because if my videos get their montetization taken away, I will be somewhat discouraged from creating more content in the future. It's not the amount of revenue I receive (it's only about $150 annually,) but rather more about the principal. I hope you will keep my channel monetized and support channels both big and small.

I have never broken the guidelines. I make short films, having worked on learning vfx. Over the years, nothing made my channel grow beyond a mere 206. I've tried everything. I am still working on developing longer films and dedicating time to the process and effects. You refer to people like me as "Bad Actors." I am not a "Bad Actor," yet I'm being punished. And I've done nothing wrong. I've played by all the rules. Why am I being booted? No one can find my content. I studied the creative program and followed it as best as possible. But nothing generated new subscribers. Somewhere in the many algorithms, my channel has not been very visible to anyone.

I think Youtube have to fix the System because in this moment it is in a wrong place. Many people angry on Youtube can easily go to other platform. I think Youtube give advantage to Bigger Channels and he forget that Youtube grow and with little channels. Monetization for my youtube channel has been taken off and I have to reapply after February the 15th. I created a new AdSense account, which now I understand you are not supposed to do, and I got an email about the information matching and having only one account. I then deleted the previous AdSense account and tried again. However, now, my account is saying monetization has been disabled. Why is this and what can I do to resolve the issue? The original agreement states that I agree for you to place ads alongside my videos and you will pay me the revenue. Please arrange to pay me the amount you owe me before monetisation is disabled completely. We had a LEGAL agreement and you are still showing the ads and collecting the revenue.

I swapped the copyrighted audio on my video with free youtube audio. But I still have the "not eligible for monetization icon" (black crossed out $ sign) showing against my video.
When I look at the video through creator,
Under the Monetization section it says "video is not eligible for monetization because it matched third party content" ... however, I no longer have the Copyright Section - so I cannot even check what its specifically complaining about.

The problem is there is zero logic to how the AI works. My last video to get tagged is just me cooking eggs and bacon on a camp stove. The one before that was just a headlamp review. Nothing in the content tags, title, thumb etc etc etc could possibly in any way no matter how it's looked at be a violation of anything. No curse words etc etc etc. Nothing. It's actually getting worse. It's like the AI is learning how to unnecessary demonetize content better not the other way around. Used to be able to up a video on unlisted. If it was green then publish but not any more. Green when unlisted then Yellow within a day after publishing. It's like the AI learned a new way to turn it Green to Yellow unnecessarily. I have given up trying to logic it. There is ZERO logic. The human reviewers always approve the video but not before most of the views are negated. I have a small 6500 sub channel but growing at an increasing rate of around 500 plus subs a month. But it's disheartening to work on a video only to have it basically tagged by an AI which is always wrong. Ok the loss is only a dollar or so as the channel is still small but I could see how this would be a big problem in the future if there were more views in that first day. I support the goals but it seems there is zero logic to the AI. Not sure why I am even posting this as odds are it will not be read. I don't think there is any bad intent. I think the overall intent is good but the AI is just not working.

Hi I have been running a channel for a few years now and admittedly when I started I was not an adult and didn’t not at all understand the full rules and implications of copyright. Obviously over time and experience I’ve come to a much better understanding of how it works. My channel, in the past had a strike and monetisation has been removed. This was a while ago, simply a product of my younger naive self. Since I’ve grown to 8k subscribers and don’t want to have to make a new channel, and lose a lot of them in the process, and was wondering if maybe some how I could have the opportunity to start with a clean slate?
