|New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||jubjub449||3/21/12 8:43 PM|
The way the button expands to cover the entire width of the thumbnail on hover really annoys me. It's made me add three videos to my "Watch Later" list unintentionally since I first saw it about two hours ago. Plus, I preferred it when the button would allow you to add it to any of your existing playlists, in addition to the "Watch Later" list.
Anyone else with the same thoughts?

OMG this makes me so angry. I liked it better when I could Add to my playlist or my favorite from a thumbnail. Why the hell did they change it so that it only does the watch later. Its like they just keep downgrading all of youtube's features.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||Tekniq||3/21/12 9:49 PM|
I agree with both posts. This change is not for the better as w/ before; we could chose to add a video to a specific playlist rather than only the Watch Later.
Please YouTube revert back to old function as it was a very nice feature.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||srnha||3/21/12 10:27 PM|
I also agree with the previous posts. I ended up adding a bunch of videos to my 'watch later' playlist instead of the playlist that I wanted. I prefer the method before where you could add a video to a specific playlist. This new feature is really annoying.

I have 4 watch later playlists: watch later shows, watch later podcasts, watch later music and watch later everything else. Now my system is pretty much ruined since I have to select one video at a time to add to a playlist. If at least videos were added to playlists the older first, then it would be better.

i have to keep going back and forth just to watch the video i want to
totally ruin the playlist feature
which troll design this?
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||limpidgreen||3/23/12 12:57 PM|
This new nonsense drives me crazy for three reasons: 1) it make no sense at all, it takes away the freedom to choose where you want "to park" your "watch later" videos 2) Google says that this is for our own good, they changed it because they want us to be responsible (I can't find this post but I swear, that was the reason given!) so that we have to watch a video before to add it to a playlist, and, let me tell you, these are patronising bull****! and 3) the worst of all: I know very well why they change it: because now we have to open the video page and WATCH THE FRICKING COMMERCIAL before to do anything!
Google/Youtube, you know what? So far I've never use Adblock because I've always understood that the service you're offering is expensive for you, but from now on I'm going to use it specifically for all that video pages you're forcing me to open. I'll turn it off for video I like to watch because I want the people to get some money from the ads, but not for anything else, you can count on it.

|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||mrblueunu||3/24/12 10:09 AM|
My name is mrbluenun, some how it got changed as I was moving through these HELP pages. Despite what it says please if possible reply to mrbluenun.
Can you at YT/Google please actually give me and us an answer to why the + (plus) sign has disappeared? Saying it has gone because you think it is better, just makes no sense. It takes at least six clicks and more to save a video to a specific playlist. Then it would take a single click and ten seconds. No it takes several clicks and maybe 4 minutes for every saved video. how does that make any sense?
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||phil1234||3/24/12 11:01 AM|
Agreed. This is a major downgrade! Totally screwed up the way that I use the playlists.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||anmoose||3/24/12 11:46 AM|
Their rationale behind it is, and I quote a staff member, that they want us to "make better informed decisions" whenever we add a video to a playlist. As if to say that they consider us all blathering idiots, incapable of making decisions on our own, so they'll graciously help us. This way, we have to watch the video before we're allowed to choose a playlist, thereby making sure that we really want it before we add it. (Lord help us if we should <gasp> make a mistake.) It couldn't possibly be that we've already seen it, or we know exactly what it is, and simply want to add it to a damned playlist. No, we're not smart enough to do things like that.
Seriously, this condescending attitude seems to be behind virtually all of these asinine changes they're making lately. We're too stupid to think for ourselves, so they're doing it for us. In reality, we're the ones who know how to use the website, and they're the ones who don't have a clue.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||mechanesthesia||3/24/12 1:45 PM|
Yes I know!!!! It's so annoying!
I have a similar set up:
-long videos/part of series
-audio [things I can just listen to without watching]
Even if you add all of these videos to "watch later" and then go to your watch later playlist, there is still the only option to add them to "watch later" which is so stupid, because you're already IN the playlist. You have to individually go to each video and add it to the playlist you want.
What's worse, if you use YouTube on an iPhone [and this may happen on other smart phones], most apps don't let you view the default "Watch Later" playlist!!
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||not a product||3/25/12 11:10 PM|
Yeah, like I was pointing out in that topic, the watch later button adds a video to a playlist just like before (but in a most worthless way), and we could accidentally use it without visiting the watch page first. So their explanation is not only condescending but it contradicts itself.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||KateTree||3/26/12 12:03 AM|
Youtube change it back
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||ScruffyG||3/26/12 8:31 PM|
I am so utterly frustrated with this change! The ability to add videos to any of my playlists from the video thumbnail button was simple & efficient. Only allowing me access to the watch later playlist is, for lack of a better word, asinine!
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||seniosh||3/26/12 8:57 PM|
The queue feature combined with the ability to add a video thumbnail to any playlist was a much more efficient way to watch videos.
The Watch Later list is both less functional than a queue, and now impairs the utility of other playlists, especially because there is no good way to shunt videos from Watch Later to other playlists. In other words, I agree with OP, and I sincerely hope Youtube takes notice.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||ScruffyG||3/26/12 9:17 PM|
My first thought exactly and I couldn't agree more! It appears to be all about forcing users to watch the ads.
Hey Google/Youtube, NEWS ALERT! I am placing videos on my playlists because I intend to watch them, just sometime later (ads included). I may be busy or it may be inappropriate to view them at that particular moment.
Yes,yes, I understand that I can sort through the watch later list at a more convenient time and reassign the videos to my "other" playlists but do you really think that is efficient?
I have never used Adblock. I understand that the ads generate the revenue required to operate the service and I applaud Google/Youtube for sharing a portion of those proceeds with the users/content creators.
This change is neither helpful nor efficient. It is insulting to us, the user, our intelligence and our ability to make our own decisions. Please give us our flexibility and choice back!

|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||p7908||3/31/12 9:32 AM|
why has the + button been replaced with just watch later?
if u want to add multiple vids to playlist have to click on everyone wait for advert then add to playlist then go back to search!
this is so much worse please please change back
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||Soren64||3/31/12 10:52 AM|
Oh yeah, I'm joining this protest.
I can't understand the reason why they removed adding videos from search results or from another user's page to one of my playlists.
Instead we have that "Watch later" button and from the Watch Later list you cant add to an existing playlist, you can only create a new playlist with those videos.
If you want to add to one of your playlists you have to go through each video and add it from the view page.
What kind of improvement is that?
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||KateTree||3/31/12 12:23 PM|
It limited things and make hard for me reorganize my playlist.

|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||colishness||4/2/12 10:35 PM|
I hope the cunts working for google read this. They're intentionally making our youtube experience less enjoyable by making it harder to use. It causes us to waste time by going to the actual video web page if we want to change what playlist it's in. Fucking stupid idea.

Very frustrated in the way google done lately.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||ChromeUser321||4/4/12 1:12 PM|
Totally agree with everyone. I always use add block so idk the real experience, but if this is true that you are forced to watch ad before adding video to a playlist this is a total outrage. We need another large video storage site to be competitive with youtube so they stop using their monopoly position.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||ScruffyG||4/4/12 2:14 PM|
You are not specifically forced to watch the advert on your Watch Later
list before sorting the video to which ever playlist you would like. But
you do have to open the video in order to add it to a different playlist.
The video or advert will start playing & you can add it to a different
I am not sure how Youtube counts those partially run adverts, but I am
In the end, this just plain sucks monkey balls!

I agree with OP and others that this button seriously hinders my veiwing/coallating when on YT. I also watch the ads, gladly, because there is such a wealth of information available on this website, free, that I don't mind ads if it helps the service to continue. What I really want to know, though, is if anyone from YouTube reads these forums, or is there a way to contact them directly with feedback?
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||Bruce.||4/4/12 10:05 PM|
Yes, I liked being able to add a video to all of my playlists.
I like the watch later feature, but I prefer to bookmark videos and put them in nicely organised folders if I want to watch something later. (Bookmarks and folders load faster than web pages at the moment, so it's easier to browse and see what I might want to check out.)
As such, I prefer the functionality and freedom of being able to add videos to any playlist, rather than only the 'watch later' playlist.
I understand people probably like the 1 click to add to Watch later. So, keep the button, but give those of us who want to be able to add to many playlists (not just Watch later) the option to turn that on and off as we want to (maybe in the YouTube settings pages). That way casual users get the nice one click Watch Later button, and advanced users can add videos to their plethora of playlists. Everybody wins.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||mcpepper||5/3/12 4:44 AM|
Well said! I too would like the option of being able to either watch later or build my playlist immediately and then watch....without having to click every single, stinking video, ONE BY ONE to add it to the playlist. It's ridiculous. I mean don't they get it? If people are going this far out of their way to AVOID ads - we obviously do NOT want to be bothered. If anything, it makes me even LESS likely to buy their junk and I usually end up boycotting it.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||ChromeUser321||5/3/12 8:39 AM|
All this "feature" have done is wasted our computer resources, cause now we open video in new tab, put it in some playlist and close it, no real profit from ads. They might get some temporary increase in revenue from more views but as click count goes down they soon will get to the same level they were before and i think in reality much even lower since less videos will be viewed because not all can bare this frustration and dont look videos at all. There are so much reasons not to have this thing i cant believe someone actually approved it. It is damaging to the users and google itself. This is a lesson for all of us that even big corporations can make obvious mistakes and we should never blindly trust what they are saying what is good for anything.
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||riluma||6/16/12 6:36 AM|
If the rationale is that users would watch more videos [and therefore more ads] because now they're forced to open the video page to add the video to a playlist, then it's just retarded, because now its just so much work to add a series of videos from search result thumbnails or from related videos thumbnails that I JUST DON'T WATCH THEM. because its TOO MUCH WORK to open each video just to add to playlist.
I watched many more videos when I had the Add To Playlist dropdown menu button from the thumbnail. in every search I used to add like 5-10 videos to a playlist, now I watch maybe 1 or 2.
AND WHY YOUTUBE HAS THIS FORUM IF THEY JUST BLUNTLY IGNORE US?
|Re: New "Watch Later" button on video thumbnails major annoyance?||StarKissed||7/30/12 12:04 AM|
Maybe there's power in numbers, so I'll join in as well. Posting videos should take less steps than this. We need something easier, not more complicated, especially when you have multiple videos to embed with playlists.

Hi Brujah8, it is Big Brother and his nefarious work force we are dealing with. Because you expect some employees from YouTube to be reading our questions and comments here, expects them to take our many valid complaints and suggestions seriously, I therefore think that you have not watched the film -1984-, a film based on Orwell's book, titled 1984. Big Brother doesn't like people who question him about his menacing power. No answer or explanation he will give for his despotic actions, after all his aim is to ruin joy in peoples lives, to reign in all freedom of choice, to make life grey, just like our individual channel pages are now: GREY. Imagine, all the artful Channel page backgrounds created by all the people world wide Big Brother has painted a sinister grey. This shows you that we are dealing with a force with the same mind set as the Taliban. Peace ...

Google, with new changes to visual and style trends this year, limiting functionality and playlist availability is dishonest to the open category of incredibly popular websites, such as YouTube.
1. Stop assuming the majority of your users are narrow-minded with how they use the functions of YouTube.
Why is the "Add to watch later" playlist considered important rather than just any other playlist, but named accordingly?
