| Why does Google search suck so bad now? | DrSparkles | 26.09.11 18:43 | When using Google search, it gives you instant results (which I don't really mind all that much, but I'm not a huge fan of either) but if you select one but dont like the site and hit the back button it no longer goes back to the search it goes to the previous page you were looking at before the search. How many people ever find what they are looking for on the first page? Sometimes Google search just takes you to a random website that has nothing to do with your search. What is that all about? This has only been happening that last couple of months. Is there a way to go back to the way it use to be. Google use to be my favorite search engine but now I'm thinking of deleting it off my computer for good if something doesn't change soon.
Does anybody know if and how I can fix this? It is very frustrating when you have to keep doing the same search over and over. Does Google know that their search is garbage now? I think is time to use Bing! I want Google 2010 please? |

Of course, you are not the only one who is suffering because of this. Count me, my sis, my boyfriend and his mom in. My sis blames Google for the terrible grade she got on her Cancer Biology exam. She needed information which was previous given by their search engine on the first page. After the Google algorithm update, it disappeared. So she could not prepare her notes for the exam. My boyfriend keeps complaining about how Google no more gives him what he looks for. His mom has the same complaint. As for me, I am banging my head on the wall. I get the "antonym" of my typed keyword in search results. |

Even the old standbys of +"term" for things that must be exactly spelled has been severely regressed. Oddly enough, on some terms, Google works great. Too bad those are the terms that are the most popular spellings. They seem to drown out good results and mess up the order so that you have to go dozens of results down through the list. |

There are still a few web design companies using stuffing practices from the 1990's; many web people don't watch how they're linking etc. I see it all the time on the Webmaster forums, where the same Content ranks different from one week to the next.
I agree you can't judge the content by rigorous webmaster guidelines and markup. I dislike the generic sites like Tripadvisor and VisitUK - but until some of the Ma&Pa sites and Town webdesigners up their coding practices, they're going to struggle with Google. |

Google search no longer gives me relevant results... unless I go onto a computer/IP I've never used before. Duckduckgo is now my go to search engine because I find what I want within the first five results. If I use Google search these days, I find myself going to the 2nd and 3rd page and still can't find anything meaningful. Wikipedia isn't even in my first three pages of results!!! How terrible is that? I used to have really good and really effective Google search syntax. But now they are playing calvinball and constantly change the rules so that I have no idea how to talk to the search engines anymore. The site design is horrendous and is constantly changing and telling me about some new beta design that completely changes how I interact with the site. Then the beta design will be gone weeks later. Google used to be my entrance to the internet but now I have to remember to bypass them and tried to go straight to what I want. It's just a matter of changing my internet habits but weird that they are shooting themselves in the foot like this. As if they don't want me to use their services anymore.
I was forced to integrate reader into Google+ so instead I deleted all my feeds and went with a non-browser based feed reader. Gmail is becoming increasingly geared towards the mentally handicapped as they continue to take away options and make it more difficult to do simple tasks. I don't want everything collapsed and I don't want everything to be integrated with Google+. I'm never going to use their "important" tags. Quit talking down to me like you need to hold my hand through your products. Some Chrome update within the last few months has made it unusable on my netbook - which is crazy considering I used to use Chrome because of it's low footprint. And YouTube has changed so many times I stopped going on there about a year or so. Word on the street is they made another intrusive change. In short, I've gone from Reader, Chrome, Google Search, Gmail, Picasa to stand-alone feed readers (depending on my OS/environment), DuckDuckGo, Opera, and I'm in the middle of building out my own email server. Still looking for a good photodumping place. As soon as I've determined I have all my other solutions working I am deleting my Google account and any products I have associated with them. Why am I saying this here? Because they have no support and no way to listen!!! I know they are a free service and all but I kind of tailored my life around depending on them and they have completely broken within the last year. Lesson learned. I am bitter and will never return. |

Every week or two weeks, something would suddenly be different, and I would be confused (checking different browsers to see what happened). It drives me crazy when I have to adapt my ways every so often just to use your site. You don't tell people what you are changing. Ok lets try "why does google search suck" Ah, now that is better. But what alternatives are there? bing sucks just as bad, yahoo is timid, and most of the others dont have a broad enough reach. If I didnt need gmail for my android phone and youtube(still annoyed bout that!), I would completely dump google (except maps) and switch to dogpile.com or ask.com or even yahoo.com if it gives me less head-ache than goog. Its taken me four years to realize this, goo search sucks too much. |

Every so often if I do a search on a fairly routine address and it gives me a result in a different country... or search on something in my current location and it jumps to somewhere else or gives random non-related results. It used to work way better. I want the old google back. |

For any search I do lately the only sites google findsup don't fit the topic properly or have little or no information in them. Google algorithm updates & in particular it's business relationship with the yellow pages/business directories in the UK mean you get a lot of irrelevant pages back. When i first started using Google it was brilliant and independent. Now they are a massive corporate business it shows - they want people to pay money to get to page 1 (adwords) and for some reason see it is relevant to be a search engine for business directories! The only problem with Bing is they've bought Yahoo and could easily start abusing their power once they get established. It's a shame but it looks like we are going to end up the same as all other technologies (e.g. microsoft windows) where one company dominates completely and has far too much power and does not develop product for the good of anyone bar themselves. |

It just wouldn't be good business practice. I believe the money has corrupted them, which is sad to see. but we had a good run. Here's the future for google: They will develop and push their cloud service as hard as they can. Soon they will sell you google computers that require no processor or hardware updates because it will essentially be a monitor connected to a keyboard with a network card and that's it. it will communicate to the google cloud which you will pay probably subscription to your login which will provide a remote-desktop style interface. you can purchase a fast virtual computer slow or medium with good better or best graphics etc. it will use a desktop version of android that basically sends all of your online information straight to their researchers similar to what they do now. If you haven't noticed, they went from a small selection of highly functional services to a slew of thousands of mediocre products accentuated only by the fact that they are integrated with each other and share information. I'll tell you this. All this monopolization and integration has not made my life any easier as they would have you believe. The internet was just as easy to use in 2001 as it is now, the only difference being there are monsters in the game making billions off of recording your information and selling it to media giants. I think I read somewhere about an android app that reads fingerprints.... are you serious people?!! Make no doubt about it, Google can make or break your company in the days of "Search Engine Optimization." That's why sites like huffingtonpost and other spam-bullshit middlemen material aggregation sites are so successful. do we want our search engine to be this controlling? why does google "tailor" results to me? if they want to keep my interest, they will have to create a setting that allows for choosing which algorithm you wish to use. for example, if i want the old google-style search back that should be an option. if i want only the latest and beta that should be another option. if i want to choose updates as they come out that should be another one. this would level the playing field considerably. unfortunately, the competition for them is slim. the competition for a company that provides even half of what they do is non-existent. This is fishy to me. normally the government would pounce on these things. Remember Kim dotcom and the illegal megaupload raid? I don't buy into the whole government is too stupid to understand the internet craze. they are purposefully hiding their knowledge and playing dumb. okay, so the same body that funds the cia and fbi and countless other top secret intelligence investigations don't understand how the internet works....? I personally have used ad-sense twice and both times I played within the rules and made a decent amount of money. it wasn't until the big payoff that they twice decided to shut down my account and provided no reasonable explanation. when I contacted them I was given no response. I literally searched for a video that came up on the front page 2 days ago that I could not find anywhere today. my advice is become self-sufficient. don't rely on google. don't rely on companies that will be your friend until the price is right and then sell you like the sheep you are. |

Seems that results are duplicated from the same site for more than 30 results or more in some cases. This is to drive up google adwords numbers. When your only choice for a different site is clicking on the adwords, then google make money. When your only choice to get listed in or near the first page, you have to buy adwords. Google wins on both accounts Sure it makes the reults SUCK, but Google is about money more than helping people. Just like any company that has share holders to answer to, then you have things like this happen. I just searched for soemthing and the entire page of 100 results was useless. I just gave up. I will use bing for the stuff I actually care about, but it's sad that google thinks nobody is noticing how horrible the results are now. Eventually it's going to work against them, but for now they are trying to trick people into clicking and buying more adwords ads. Their recent earnings proves it is working for driving up adwords, so it is not going to stop any time soon. I wish more people would figure it out, so at least they would attempt to hide what they are doing. It's almost so blatant now, that i'm not sure how othesr haven't brought it up. |

I've also found that, if I enter several words in my search, google will be selective with the words it bases my search on. For instance, today I was searching for places to park a minibus in Blackpool during the illuminations. My search was, minibus parking Blackpool illuminations. I couldn't use quotes as this would have eliminated most of the results. Google then spurted out results using the words it from my search it THOUGHT mattered. Most of the results completely ignored the word 'minibus' and those that included 'minibus' ignored the words Blackpool, parking or illuminations. Some of the results even gave me parking in Manchester and Liverpool airports. I even tried using +minibus and "minibus" but google still chose to ignore it. Come on Google. If you don't search using the words I requested, then you're unlikely to give me the results I'm looking for. I'm now looking for a good search engine if anyone has any suggestions. |

Someone told me to try duck duck go, I did.. it was... Ok but Bing was better at serving results I found extremely decent. I recently learned about Google doing some Penguin Panda thing and it seems to me these things are responsible for the loss in quality results. I find it rather interesting that the websites in the ad section are great, normal search results are garbage. If I didnt know any better I'd say Google is making their results suck on purpose so you click the ads. It really is unfortunate to see a product I liked so much go to hell but it is what it is. I just hope Bing doesn't do what Google is doing or we will never find anything useful on the Internet. |

The number of times you get told "don't hit the back button" (but hey it's my favourite browser button), or when you do get something about "resubmitting the form". Back should take you to exactly what you had before you went forward without reloading anything, regardless of the cachable state of the page. |

Google has made it quite clear that their search engine results are based on which corporation spends the most money on google adwords. I have been a webmaster for years and I have watched this entire process unfold; I can guarantee you that google is manipulating search results to increase their profits, search results are not tailored to the needs of the individual searching, it is created to increase corporate profit. The more money corporations make, the more they spend on google ads. |

As well one aquatic website that is based on research dealing with the misinformation that is now spewed out in many Google searches is missing while eHow, about, and many other spam sites that are simply incorrect. Interior pages still ranking well for their own key words. We're even in the process of moving the site to a new host with a new dedicated I.P. address to see if that helps at all. I'm at a loss. We're not in the top 40 pages from always in the first 1-4 pages, now it's gone and has been for 2 months. Our site was once "mis-indexed" by the adsense team who sent us an e-mail saying just that. I was hoping this happened again and I could get someone at Google to check on that possiblity, but there seems to be no one to ask. Just hoping with my myriad of reaching out to forums and such that like last time, someone from Google will see this and take a peak for us. Otherwise I'm just grasping at straws. |

The maps app forces a search suggestion even though it doesn't match what I typed, then it returns out of state results. Maps search reliability has been reduced to only being useful if I already know the exact address I am looking for. The stock email app search returns incomplete or no results at all, even when a message with the term is at the very top of the inbox. I don't expect things to be perfect but these are all things which used to work and now don't - a regression in usability. At the rate things have been declining I will jump ship to Windows Phone when my contract is up. |

As devoted Google user I can forget about this thing with helping to enslave Chinese people instead for ~30% of market share, but for the past 3 months their search is useless. Never mind I have to use TOR or proxy to change location if I want to search for something in a different country, those guys completely ignore my "buy" and "I want to buy" phrases in the query. IDK whether it's because they finally have enough money to buy everyone trained falcon to keep toilet paper in it's beak while sitting on a toilet, or there's just something wrong going on inside the company. For me most important is I don't find things I search for and I think it's time to try alternatives. |

More and more I have noticed that Google have their youtube results listed in the first 4 or 4 search results. Normally this is not what I am looking for. Page after page of youtube - it is sooooo frustrating. As for low quality search results? For the past 6 months the quality has really dropped and I find myself using Bing much more. I used to be a big Google fan but their quality standards have really dropped. At the moment Bing produces better results; more relevant results. |

I noticed it around the time that google updated gmail, and forced it on all of the users. Cant click ctr+b to bookmark in chrome? Have to select emails to get the DELETE button to appear in gmail? Auto search always sends me for a loop, and wipes out all my results when i click the search box, which hasn't happened before. IMHO I would say, GET BENT GOOGLE! but, what is the alternative? Yahoo, where your email gets hacked continuously? BING which, well, blows? Mahlo? what? Its like people don't give two nickles for customer service or quality anymore. Just have to get used to it I guess. |

You can type in an exact match and it takes you 2 pages to get there. More data. Its no big secret its about maximizing profit. Which is what all business do and there's nothing we can do about it. Who is it that's paying Google? Once I realized this, pennies started to drop... Google aren't 'stupid' they know the situation and know they could fix this. We've let them walk all over us, because what they offer is free (not really if you think about it) and they promise to do no evil (shame 'thou shall not mine personal data in a duplicitous fashion' is not a commandment) This can be fixed and have Google steered back to the Google we used to have and love. But soon, I might be forced to go to Bing because when I click on the desired website result after doing a Google Instant Search, the website link I click on doesn't actually show that site for 15 to 20 seconds and sometimes the desired site is never displayed. It wasn't this bad before IE10, so I'm thinking that this Microsoft browser is somewhat responsible. It's probably a combination of Microsoft not liking me using Google Search and Google not liking me using a Microsoft browser! A friend of mine uses Chrome. When his Google Instant Search results are "clicked on", the desired website displays instantly. So, like I said, it looks like I will be forced to use all Microsoft, or all Google software. That's just what both companies want everyone to do and it looks like that strategy might be working!...unfortunately. |

Google has to return, or bing will work out how to get that good(it is already close) Google searches quality has nose dived in the past year. Whoever is running this division is clearly working for Microsoft's espionage department. I am on the verge of moving to bing if something isn't done. Google could lose customers at a silly rate, and it doesn't appear to be aware of that. It is becoming complacent, just like microsoft did. I think google doesn't really want to know. They have turned searches into a popularity game. "If you're page gets the most visits - well then everyone must love it so we'll make everyone else read it!" So often, when I search certain terms for school research - I'll get 2 full pages of newspapers/emags that will have a story kind-of what I was searching for. But I can see that crap on tv! In the past if I couldn't find what I wanted, I would change my search terms and I continued this way until best results were in front of me. With the new move, our human intelligence is in effect defused. Google seems to try to find best match for both set of search terms which is in practice a wrong idea, although it might look nice in theory. The problem gets worse when I decide to search a term completely irrelevant to my previous search. Things get so badly messed up! The problem is no other search engine is out there as powerful as Google was a few months ago. So, welcome Google to the club of sucking search engines! :-D |

Google maintains they make changes to prevent spam, however it is plain to see no matter how stuffed webpages were with keywords the results in the past were a lot more reliable and useful. Google needs to stop manipulating search results to maximise revenue. In the meantime I've switched. Homepage is no longer Google. |

I deal with known facts in my many articles and products that I only sold in my maintenance company because they work as the way I worked my contracts I was responsible if I sold junk. As a few examples: (2) As for aquarium lighting, I separate the fact from the fiction when it comes to PAR versus PUR and MANY other aspects that are misreported in again much of what comes up in Google Search (3) Many web sites dealing with Aquarium Columnaris suggest the use Gram Positive treatments for this disease when IN FACT a gram positive medication is not going to work for this gram negative disease I could go on for hours, but the facts speak for themselves, however Google chooses to give authority to junk website that simply cut and past misinformation over and over. |

I find replacing terms that have multiple meanings with terms that have more specific meanings (HIV in the place of AIDs) or phrasing my query as a question (e.g. can aids be transmitted through dried fluids) will often improve the results I get. |

So I search for "bath & body works barcode type" and get one ad, three results then results for "similar" searches all with barcode removed therefore guaranteed to not include the information I was wanting. The first four pages after only pertained to coupons. I had tried searching with bar code instead of barcode at first, but google insisted I wanted it as one word so I went with that. My email contact finally got back to me saying it was an EAN-13. |

After I ran the query for PLU 4833 and saw all of the results with PLUS in them, I added double quotes around PLU and got a useful result as the first listing. It took me about 5 seconds. If you want a word to be interpreted exactly as typed, surround it in double quotes. It's a simple rule to follow. A query for PLU Lookup seems to give lots of useful results too. |

Riddle me this, Jim. Why can't Google understand "NOT (insert word here)"? Why can't Google understand "-(insert word here"? And I don't mean using those terms in quotes during the actual search, just something like: NOT Sandy. Here's why I ask. Try searching for the 2011 Halloween snow storm nicknamed the "Frankenstorm". It was a MAJOR snow event that blanketed several states in the Northeast, occurring before leaves had fallen off the trees. The snow snapped countless trees throughout the Tri-State (NYC) metro area and brought down power lines in many, many communities across several states. It was HUGE news and we were without power for days. It should be EASY to find using search. Well, I tried searching "Frankenstorm 2011" Only to get results for "Superstorm" Sandy from 2012 (which some media idiots also nicknamed Frankenstorm out of lack of creativity, not getting that the value of a name is in its uniqueness). Given that I did NOT want those results, I added to my search terms the string "-Sandy -2012" (*without* quotes). Even after that exclusion, the ONLY first-page results I got were for Sandy in 2012! I tried "Frankenstorm 2011 NOT Sandy NOT 2012" (without quotes). I still got ONLY results for Sandy. The fact is, I CAN'T put quotes around "NOT Sandy" or "-Sandy" as those are NOT items I am searching for? The fact that Google ONLY returns results for Sandy and 2012 when those terms are EXPLICITLY PROHIBITED within the search means that Google has destroyed commonly accepted search syntax for good. Sadly, because Google was *commercially* successful (I did not say logically or technically), other search providers have imitated them and now simple, common sense searching is DEAD and IMPOSSIBLE. You cannot even expect Google Search results to be correct, let alone optimal. That leaves me stunned. The results are actually WRONG and the company is OK with that. |

I do get quite annoyed with it though sometimes as a search for sweet potato gave no results, probably because it is listed in the database as SWEET POTATO/YAM/KUMARA and the lack of space by the punctuation likely through the search off. |

Based on that definition the frankenstorm of 2011 should have been associated with a named hurricane. If memory serves, that hurricane was Irene. Queries for Frankenstorm Irene seem to return the results you are looking for. Though I'm still seeing a lot of results for Sandy, and I can't figure out how to get rid of them. So, I'll count this one as a fail. Putting a minus in front of a term, inclosed in quotes, is the NOT syntax for Google search. |

If you already knew that plucodes.com was likely to be a good source for the information you were seeking, then your time would have been better spent typing that URL into your address bar than attempting to construct queries that would take you to a specific page. It would appear that the page on plucodes.com that contains the description of PLU 4833 is not indexed; this may have been purposely blocked by the website. This is not unusual behavior for index and lookup sites as they want you conducting the search on their site. |

I have no extensions, or ad-ons...or other programs on, I don't have anything on in windows programs except Microsoft NET 4...maybe I will go back to firefox or Chromium and try those for awhile until they fix this new and improved version.. |

Social convention is that the most prominent name be listed first. In traditional society in English speaking countries, this would result in men's names usually being listed first; I don't expect this social convention will last another generation. Wedding related announcements would be one of the exceptions to that, as the woman is usually considered the more prominent participant in a wedding. It isn't unusual to see a wedding announcement with the woman's name in headline font and the man's name listed in a much smaller typeface below it. |

You can preview the video in a GIF type format without clicking on the video, which in a Google search may not be what you think it is. Have to hold down the browser's back button and manually choose the Google Search results page, in order to navigate back to it. This used to happen all the time with IE10, but I thought it was fixed with IE11. Well, it was fixed for several months...but Google caught once again found a way to make using Microsoft's browser an annoyance. But, on the bright side, by adding *google.com to the IE11 "compatibility mode list", G-mail is now displaying and working like it has for the past 5 years. Hallelujah! Since I work with others with educational videos and information websites, it is now very difficult for others monitoring the videos to answer comments & moderate comments. Quite honestly, just dealing with Google as well as Facebook advertising is like dealing with dishonest spoiled brat rich children, that take no responsibility for their actions. 20 years ago, any company that treated their advertisors the way Google and Facebook do, with advertising results that were near 0 would have gone out of business a long time ago. but alas that is not the world we live in, as in a perfect world, both these companies would simply go away into oblivion |

I know I have passed this around on Facebook, via business contact, etc. One of the biggest successes is a friend with influence got Google removed as the home page at an entire school where they now use DuckDuckGo. He also told me that many of the students now also have dropped Google in favor of a better, more honest search engine. Once the media eventually picks up on Google's total lack of integrity, eventually Google will have no other choice but to change their dishonest ways or go out of business. This is much better than threatening others, as while I certainly have no love loss for Google, making violent threats is not the answer. |

I have been giving specific detail on bad searches for well over a year. But, as someone else pointed out, Google continues to get worse. All search results are dominated by large corporations; ask dot com, wikipedia, etc. And after that - forums. Why is it so hard to understand that when we are searching for information that forums do not always give answers? They are mainly filled with other people asking the same question and amateurs attempting to answer our questions. This is not the same as finding a website where someone has actually taken the time to write information that is not tainted with mainstream media garbage. Sorry to sound so angry - but that's another pile of crab that G feeds us; media. Many searches often give results; one article re-produced by hundreds of media outlets. If I wanted mainstream media/news - I'd look on their websites, not do an internet search; I'm searching the internet to find OTHER info on a particular topic because mainstream media is full of B.S. Please go back to the old days where we can find interesting people in corners of the web who actually have something to say that's not regurgitated mass media. |

Putting large companies that also use their ad software seems like that is all the comes up on the first few pages anymore. Most people can't compete with the marketing budgets these companies have. You can look up almost anything and some type of selling page will come up first. After the selling pages, it's forum groups, which have a bunch of opinions and little facts to why people believe what they believe. This is how incorrect or certain products keep getting passed around as truth or the best. There are people clearly catching on to this design Google is setting up, but there are still many people that think Google is king and is only displaying the best. Mostly the younger generation or people that would never think that a website like this would only act only in their best interest. It's scary to hear when someone like a professor at a college tell all their students to just "Google" it. I'm thinking that Google thinks they can do what they want cause they offer "free" products, but when something has access to all my searches and interests and use it for their marketing, It's not free. The way Google is now set-up, it's hard for anyone to get their information and webpage seen, unless they are willing to pay big bucks. Google used to tell people, "content is king", but that has been proven time and time again to not be true. Google decides on what information is being displayed to the world. I think the people are just asking to go back to what used to make Google great. Go back to displaying popular information websites that are not just paying their way to the top of Google. |

Over the past month, I have not had one good search result page from ANY search. Sometimes I can go all the way to the end of search results without one relevant result item. Is there any way to have an option to use the old search result algorithm to allow meaningful usage of the Google search site? If everyone knew to submit feedback for poor search results, Google would be swamped with trillions of messages a day. Lastly, this is NOT just a Google problem. And as a side-note, it also appears that Google and Bing have completely removed sites based on Joomla and Wordpress from the results, where not all of these sites are user blogs, but ecommerce and other types who rely on search results to stay in business. Cannot imagine why search engines have removed these from the search results either. ... So to reiterate the question... how do I get actual search results from Google without using the new algorithm? |

This is not the first time someone from Google has came into this tread and did this. She came into this thread acting like none of us have taken the "30 seconds" to provide feedback on these issues, awarded herself the "best answer", and doesn't have much to say in response to our commons saying we have taken the steps she has asked. From my personal experience dealing with a small company with great content, I know we have spent far more than "30 seconds" dealing with Google's "customer support" trying to figure out why some our webpages have fallen dramatically after big updates. The one that still gets me is why Google would ever have to have a "verbatim" option. What I'm typing in, is what I want. This just shows Google manipulates our searches. Another one that gets me is when searching products and something like a big companies listing comes up, like ebay, and that company doesn't even have the item. They try to redirect you to similar items. |

Ask.com is another search wannabe engine. Why would anyone want to leave Google to go to another search site?
Cafepress is the top paid ad. Cafepress does not have ANY engineer hat content at all. They have ball caps, NOT engineer caps or hats. Yet there is there ad at number one. jcpenny again not engineer hats. compare99.com again advertising for Amazon.com target.com directs to a no match found search results found. LOL! zappos.com no engineer hats amazon.com again wiki.teamfortress.com 4 organic listings. Please tell me how these are relevant. Then explain why they should have 4 listings. amazon a few relevant sites then Tell me how these sites are more relevant than What happened to the exact match domains? I have seen many of my clients lose their Google listing to page 2 and page 3 or even further. When we look at their Analytics we see that their bounce rate is extremely low (less than 20% in most cases many lower.) The page views are high. Average time on site is high. Return rate is good. Click to conversion rate is good. They have attempted to build the site the best they can. No spam techniques or anything like that. Their sites have been listed well for almost ten years. Now a drop by pages to be replaced by irrelevant organic listings. Then required to compete with irrelevant paid ads. One site over the past year had a 5% bounce rate for traffic directly from Google Search. The other stats on this site were outstanding. High average page views, return rates, etc. People that found this site directly through Google really liked the site. They spent lots of time, bookmarked the site, returned often and yes spent money. Most stats for this site were very impressive. People really liked the site. Thanks Google. |

I've done it on almost every search I would do on google since I rarely get results I'm looking for. And guess what? You STILL suck. I really do hope that one competitor comes along and is able to create a search engine of the caliber that google used to be - once, long ago. Instead I get a laugh when I see Google employees come on with general "we strive for quality" response template. Reminds me of Baghdad Bob. I have an example today in our local area of a business that has successfully seo'd 2 websites to the first page and have submitted as webSpam for over a year now...and nothing ever happens. Yet Matt Cutts comes out and talks about "Quality Search" and we still see the manipulation and lack of anything useful your webspam reporting does. While Google successfully got me to use Adwords... they removed my site from the top 60 organically about 1.5-2 years ago when I proactively "disavowed" incoming links that I saw never knew of. I guess in teh eyes of Google, I was a cheat by default despite wanting to be proactive in the fight of webpam and dishonest linking. In that time I have still grown (3 brick and mortar locations) and can easily say I am the community leader in my business...yet on Google's "quality driven results", you'll never see me organically. But some other business that invest in seo can place two websites with different domains of their business and keep them on the first page of results. I'll keep using adwords as I have become pretty good at it and stopped giving a sh*t about organic search as I have a business to run and can't play the organic shuffle Google plays with everyone. There does seem to be a preference with the big listing websites when it comes to organic results like yellow pages, craigslist, industry directory service listing...at least in my business. You talk about quality listings, and yet here your search engine biases other search results. Example, I don't want to search for something, only to have to find craigslist or thumbtack and search again because I landed on their site directory that has been seo'd for that keyword/term. The small business provider does not have the money or time to deal with all that..and yet they are the ones that have the quality service. If I want an AC repair guy, I want the local AC repair guy...not Thumbtack or Craigslist directory where I have to search again for what I want. I have loved Google since day one. I use Google Apps for Business, promote Google tools and services and for the most part they have helped me streamline business operations and provided convenience in the process. What I have wasted their time is in the search arena and it seem Google has begun diluting what was a great product in the attempt to catch and penalize seo/sem marketeers instead of actually worrying about "quality results". The blanket treatment and approach simply does not work when applying algorithm changes. Your support really is third world when dealing with this, your webspam reporting has become a waste of energy and your results are trending towards crappy quality instead of what you are trying to do. The results and proof are in what's being said in these forums that further validate what I have felt. I got to this forum indirectly through search, lol!! Despite all this, I still use you today but find myself once in a blue using Bing or DuckDuckGo who have good results. I'm just a lazy ass and until you piss me off further I still may use Google Search but have a healthy view of the alternatives. Feel free Google if you'd like to contact me so I can show you what I discussed about local sites still spamming. I did not want to post info and links publicly... god forbid Google is so smart they outsmart me and think I'm the actual seo person just web spamming. In the end, I don't care if you do or don't. The most typical problems are that the first plethora of 'hits' are all trying to sell me something (Amazon, and other generic rewording algorithms that pop up). I use the internet for research (work), and am always searching for reports out of organizations that are accredited and reputable. When I am searching a subject - like [integrated assessment and climate] I often try to get to official university or institute sites by adding the additional domain information in my search, since I may not always know them by name (or that they exist, if they are in another country). For example, [integrated assessment and climate .org] or [integrated assessment and climate .edu]. These strategies used to work very well for me, but no longer do. I also understand that there is a way that I can turn off the features in Google which profile my searches for my future searches. I do not want this feature. I actually want my searches to be more open, so that I will NOT overlook something that I may not know about, but WOULD LIKE TO. Thanks, Ruth |

It could be so much better if, for example, it confirmed that you work somewhere, rather than assuming that because you go somewhere regularly, you must work there. I have been a long time Google user and fan of it, and I hope that you are feeding back the comments into product improvements. It really has been only recently that the last updates were more like downgrades and features that used to be useful are now just annoying. I am not an Apple fan. I guess that the NSA throws a monkey wrench into the technology, to disempower the individual. Whatever the case, industrial sabotage from competition, or what, something is wrong and I hope to see the evidence of improving the user's experience, rather than more rants about the Chinese buying Google and other insinuations of poor quality! |

Someone or some org. is dictating what they can and cannot put in the search results. I did 2 search on b-complex vitamines and the other one on B-17, prior to 1970. There is no results. The info starts in 1970 to today !! Well in 1970, the FDA removed B-17 from the market and removed it from the B-Complex vitamins. They also removed Apricot seeds, the best source for B17, from the shelves of every health food store and natural market throughout the USA. And they removed it from the search results. It so happens that B-17 is the best source for fighting cancer and this is a scientific fact known since 1833. |
