How do I prevent www.google.com from defaulting to mobile on my desktop browsers? MarkAnd274 8/8/11 9:02 AM
Over the past 4 or 5 days, when I go to www.google.com on my Mac (the search page) it defaults to the mobile version.  This is with Chrome, Safari and Firefox.  I keep changing from mobile back to "classic" and the next time I go there - even a different tab, it is back to mobile.

What's worse is that the mobile page is giving me less options.  In Firefox (where I am now) I can't even switch to classic view.  All I get is an option to turn instant off, and there's a single tab (very ugly looking) that says web.  That and a search box that extends the entire length of my monitor.

Please help or I'll have to start using Bing - it is THAT bad!

I just started having this problem on my HP Touchpad tablet (using WebOS browser). Every time I go to Google.com, I get the mobile view instead of classic. Yes, I can switch to classic, but then it defaults back to mobile view. Very annoying!

I'm pretty sure this is a problem on Google's end because it started happening at the same time (around midnight last night) on my friend's HP TouchPad. I see someone else complaining on Twitter about this, too.

I've tried deleting cookies, cache, etc., but to no avail.

Hi MarkAnd274 and manlyman,

Thanks for bringing this up. MarkAnd274, have you tried clearing the cache/cookies of the affected browsers?

I have created a report for this issue and will keep you updated as we work.

Thanks,

Kousha

Hi Kousha,

Thank you for replying and for creating a report! I don't know if you saw my other post, but there are many other HP TouchPad / WebOS users who began experiencing this issue yesterday:

Hello any news?

I also anxiously await an update. Any idea if and when this will be fixed? With the number of google searches I do each day, it's a huge inconvenience to constantly need to switch out of mobile view.
