"Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore. This feature was introduced recently: http://googlesystem.blogspot.ca/2013/08/google-timer.html

Has this been removed?

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Rocky Kev 10/4/13 7:54 AM
I too do not see it. It went back to a search result.

This was really useful for me.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore courtfunke 10/4/13 9:00 AM
I used it just yesterday but it's not there again today.  It was a helpful tool for me in my classroom.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore mimelia 10/4/13 1:40 PM
It's not showing up for me either. I'm seeing posts all over that it's not working, but no one seems to know why.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore C Hrbal 10/6/13 7:16 AM
Same here as well, and this was the only Google Now card I found useful.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Dave Winter2 10/6/13 11:05 AM
I was going to introduce this at a conference this week for educators. Hoping it starts working today.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Terry Furey 10/6/13 3:07 PM
It appears that Google has revamped their search page. The bar at the top that used to say "Web | Images | Shopping | " etc. has been removed. Instead, there's a smooth interface.

This tells me that Google forgot to move some of its search apps over to this new interface. Hopefully, it will be back eventually. For now, we'll all have to live with timers on websites or on phones, as inconvenient as they might be.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Xectron 10/7/13 6:35 PM
I used this feature all the time. Hopefully Google brings it back :(
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore nealem 10/8/13 9:59 AM
Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to submit the report and share feedback.

The team is aware of the issue and is hard at work on a fix. The timer feature will return soon!

Best,
Nealeigh
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Kendall Baker 10/8/13 10:33 AM
Good to hear because I use that all the time so I'm not late to class. :)
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Rocky Kev 10/8/13 10:40 AM
Me too. I've been using a website that's not as elegant to keep a timer.

I use pomodoro with a google timer to help me stay focused.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore mimelia 10/8/13 10:56 AM
Thanks for the update, Nealeigh! I'm glad to hear that the timer will be back - and I appreciate that the team is listening to us.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore mimelia 10/8/13 10:58 AM
Me too! Pomodoro all the way! I've had such a hard time finding a replacement timer that I like.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 10/21/13 8:56 AM
Dear Nealeigh,

It's been almost two weeks since your post. Would you happen to have an approximate ETA on when this could be fixed? I'm sure you have better things to do, but I figure it could be worth a shot to see if you would let us know when this might be coming back.

Thanks! :-)

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Xectron 10/21/13 9:08 AM
Indeed, also is there any way to be updated on any revisions Google makes to their search cards? I would love to discover new and exciting queries; for example
"Jack Nicholson's children"
lists each child in a beautiful rectangle before the links.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore khelek 10/23/13 6:40 AM
For anyone interested, I tried this this morning (10/23) from both my phone and in my desktop Chrome browser and it looks like the timer functionality is there (again?). I had no issues.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore nealem 10/23/13 7:55 AM
Hi everyone,

The timer is indeed working again. Thanks for your patience!

Nealeigh
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 10/23/13 9:08 AM
It sure doesn't work for me... :( Maybe it takes a while to roll out to everyone?
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Steffen H. 11/6/13 1:56 PM
The timer still does not work as it did before. Both Chrome and IE11, google.com and US-English.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Matt Storms 11/6/13 1:59 PM
If you are using Google Chrome, add this extension as it will allow you to set a timer. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stayfocusd/laankejkbhbdhmipfmgcngdelahlfoji?hl=en
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Rocky Kev 11/6/13 2:11 PM
Weird. Working fine on my end.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 11/7/13 2:26 AM
Yeah, same here. No-go on latest Chrome and Firefox on Ubuntu. Tried in incognito mode on Chrome and private browsing on Firefox, to see if trying with a clean cache/no cookies made a difference. It did not.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Xectron 11/7/13 9:17 AM
They actually fixed it a few weeks ago. It was most likely botched in a Penguin algorithm update a couple months ago. I'm so happy a Google employee helped us here, in our time of not knowing when our dinners should be removed from the oven.

On a side note, I'd like to point out that the send feedback button (found in most Google apps) is fantastic and should be used frequently.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Steffen H. 11/7/13 9:59 AM
Apparently, they did not fix it completely. I'm still struggling with the oven.

As you suggested, I just sent feedback for this issue.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore BrAvA27 11/11/13 12:57 PM
I find saying "set timer for x minutes" works fine for minutes. Not hours. 120 minutes is 2 hours and works fine.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 11/11/13 1:11 PM
Not for me. Searching for "set timer for 10 minutes" does not work, for example. 120 minutes doesn't work either. So something is amiss here, as it works for some but not for others.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 11/11/13 1:12 PM
"as it works for some *people* but not for other *people*", I should say.

Hi Nealeigh,

I'm surfing using Safari 7.0.1 on Mavericks and this feature is not working (despite using www.google.com, not the localized version like google.ca or google.fr etc.)

is there a know issue with safari? is an extension needed?

Thanks!

Not working. Search results only.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Johny Blaze 2/14/14 4:29 AM
search for set timer or timer
Its default set to 5 minutes
manually you able to change it
but in search query eg. set timer 1 minute doesn't work for me :(
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Brian Forbes Colgate 2/22/14 8:04 PM
Works for me

Search for "set timer xx minutes" and a timer opens with the number of minutes you have requested/

No luck here...

Any ideas?

I have been searching for "x min Timer" and it works for me.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 3/3/14 10:09 AM
I think it's great that it works for some people, but it still doesn't work for a lot of people. It still doesn't work for me. I tried what you did too: "10 min Timer". It just gives me search results.

Just search "Google Timer"
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore ukimalefu 5/4/14 4:55 AM
OK, THAT gets you the timer. It's set to 5 minutes, but you can change it. Still, not as convenient as it was before, when you could search for something like "timer 3 min" and it would just work.

This doesn't work for a lot of people (including me). But simply searching for "timer" works for me.

bs i just used it
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Victor Zamanian 6/7/14 6:14 AM
I didn't say it doesn't work for *anyone*, I said it "doesn't work for a lot of people (including me)." This is *my* experience. If it doesn't match *your* experience, it doesn't make it "bs". Like I said, searching for just "timer" does work.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Daniel Elliott B 6/7/14 1:14 PM
I found "Set timer as" would generate a 5 minute timer, but no other options would give me any other timer (like 10 minutes).  Using Firefox 29.0.1
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Daniel Elliott B 6/7/14 1:15 PM
Just "timer" presents a 5 min timer.  "timer" plus any number produces links to other timers.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore GavMcG92 6/7/14 1:24 PM
That's the issue. "Timer" works, but "set timer x minutes" no longer works. It doesn't make sense. The feature was available for a while and then they just removed it. It was nice and quick and easy.

Unfortunately, that simple change doesn't do it, at least, not for me.  Firefox 30.0 or Chrome 35.0.1916.153 m
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Dawn Bragg 6/14/14 4:30 PM
If you are one of those people for whom you are not able to get anything *other than* a 5 minute timer, and you find a way, either by changing the search terms, or enabling/disabling something, then please share.

If you are one of those who are able to get Googlr timers of all sorts, no matter how you phrase your search terms, then telling us how you are doing it may be of little or no benefit to those who can't!

A good way to test: type "timer" - do you get a 5 minute google timer?  Now try "timer 10".  Do you get a 10 minute google timer?  If yes to both, then yay, you don't have the problem.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Nisarg Pandya 6/21/14 4:55 AM
You have to click on the time to change the desired time you want.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Dawn Bragg 6/21/14 8:30 PM
All Right!  That's better!  Works for me - thanks!
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore GavMcG92 6/27/14 6:47 AM
It's working again for me. Try this out...

type "timer 10 min" or whatever time you're looking for. This works for me!

Finally I can go back to using google timer instead of my phone. So much easier.

I just ran into this problem after upgrading my Nexus 7 to "L." The problem was that I set the system to Lang/Locale Japan/Japanese, but Google Now to English (U.S.). After setting the system Lang/Locale to English/U.S., it started working properly again.

Why do these BOTH have to be set the same?

Hello,

All You need is to login into Your Google Account ( https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin )

This feature will work again for You, but only when You are logged in.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore ukimalefu 7/15/14 6:40 AM
Nope, that's not it. But there's been a change

Today I searched for "timer 5 min", and got a timer for 13:44:07

Go figure.

So it's still broken.

Doesn't matter anyway, there are many alternatives.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Teddie Evidente 7/15/14 12:28 PM
try this: "timer hh:mm", hh=2-digit hours, mm=2-digit minutes... example: to set an alarm timer for 1 minute, enter "timer 00:01"
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Teddie Evidente 7/15/14 12:32 PM
actually you can include 2-digit seconds... "timer hh:mm:ss"
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Teddie Evidente 7/15/14 12:36 PM
example: to set timer to 30 seconds, enter "timer 00:00:30"

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Eric Wu91 7/21/14 1:54 PM
Apparently, it is not available for all the Google Search's versions. Brazilian's is out, at the very least.
https://www.google.com/?hl=en works just fine with the "hh:mm:ss" pattern.
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Johnny Cardenas 7/21/14 2:54 PM
I think that it has been replaced by GoogleNow services in Android
Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore agvulpine 7/21/14 10:44 PM
The proper phrase is:  start timer for x hours y minutes z seconds.

You can also type:  start timer for 6 AM (or 6:30 AM)

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Stevan George 7/22/14 12:20 AM
type decimal number, example :

"timer 0.1" for 1 minute
"timer 1.0" for 1 hour
"timer 1.05" for 1 hour and 5 minutes
"timer 1.59" for 1 hour and 59 minutes

search without "" working for me

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore ukimalefu 7/22/14 2:52 AM
I typed "timer 7.0" and got a timer for 19 hours. NINETEEN! what the....?

Entering "timer 0.7" did work.

But I still think that's too much problem. It used to work in a simple way that made sense. "Timer 7 min" used to work, but not anymore.

I still consider it broken.

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore Neiko2002 7/24/14 12:07 AM
Please try the english Google website.
https://www.google.com/?hl=en

Like most of you, I got only search results when I entered "timer 10 min". But on the english google page it works. I changed my Omnibox in Chrome under Settings->Search->Manage Search Engines. There you have to scroll down and enter a new engine with this URL https://www.google.com/?hl=en#hl=en&q=%s

Afterwards you have the make the new added engine to you default search engine. Now it is possible to type "timer 10 secs" in the search field of Chrome to get a timer.

You need to open google with your country's first level domain for that to work.
(e. g. Russia - google.ru, Armenia - google.am, Spain - google.es, Italy - google.it, ect...)

set timer 14 min

It works

Re: "Set a timer for x minutes" doesn't work anymore ukimalefu 9/3/14 3:32 AM
That STILL does NOT work me

"timer 5 min" used to work. Other formats used to work. Now NOTHING works for me.

I give up hoping it will work again for me.

Are you putting it in the address bar?
Try this where the URL usually appears, not within Google search box:

set timer 10 min

Works for me and many others ... if not it may be some security setting blocking your computer ..
