Photopost site with 3000 images, mostlhtml pages indexed but not a single image is indexed Keith Scott mycoinpictures 12/23/13 2:35 PM
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.

HI, I have have this issue for quite some time.  Some info first:

My site is www.mycoinpictures.com.  the site is several years old and contains over 3000 pictures of coins.  Looking through google webmaster tools, and using site;www.mycoinpictures.com, my pages are indexed.  But, when I then check to see what actual images are indexed, the result is 0.  Out of 3000 images, many that have been on the site for several years are not indexed by google.  I am not sure why.  All photos have very detailed alt tags and file names for the images when uploaded.  When I go to a single page for a photo, such as http://www.mycoinpictures.com/peace-dollars/p1998-1925-p-peace-dollar-ms62-pcgs.html, there is also info on that page that describes the photo.

What can I check, what, if anything am I doing wrong, etc.  I figure there must be something wrong as not a single image is index, yet again, most pages are indexed, although admittedly, they do not show up well in the rankings.

Thanks

You have ONE image in the Google image index:

Clearly something is wrong when Google is showing "rating off" image rather than what you intended.    Are you blocking the images from being indexed and/or from being hotlinked?

Ben, in case I don't get to say so in another thread, Merry Christmas to you and yours.

That is two of us (Ben and myself) who are finding the same crazy image....

The one image was a recent addition.  It is a star from the ratings portion of a page.  Anyway, I will give the sitemap thing a whirl.  I have never had one, but Google always seems to index the html pages so I did not think it would matter.  Will give it a shot

Google can and will index images without an image sitemap.

My gut says you are blocking the indexing OR Google has found the image via another source and don't need your copy of the same image.

All images are original, so, no other source is available

Hi Keith

this appears to be a combination of two things, and one of them is fixed already :-).

1) Until recently you had blocked crawling of /data in your robots.txt file. This is the directory where your thumbnail images appear to be. Since it's no longer blocked now, we'll probably pick up on crawling those images soon.

2) Your large photos are linked in a way that makes them hard to recognize. The "View Larger Image" link uses JavaScript to open a URL like http://www.mycoinpictures.com/showfull.php?photo=3157 in a new window of its own. It seems that we're not picking up that these URLs are actually not pages but rather images -- and images without a landing page on top of that. One way to let us know about the actual connection is to use a direct link to the image (using target=_blank is fine, if you want to open them up in a new window/tab), and on top of that it would help if you were to link to "easily recognizable" image URLs similar to your thumbnail URLs (eg http://www.mycoinpictures.com/data/550/full/1925_P_Peace_Dollar_MS62_PCGS.jpg ) instead of using a generic PHP-script with an ID for the image.

At any rate, since the thumbnail URLs on their own should start getting picked up soon, maybe that's already enough for you & you don't actually need to make any changes with the full images -- that's completely up to you.

Hope it helps!
John
