|Malware warning on my domain when I have no website||pam spevak||12/26/12 9:12 AM|
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.
My URL is: I don't have one
I have a domain - brainchildadvisors.com - which I use exclusively for email; there's no website. Using any browser on a Mac or a PC will generally yield a standard "under construction" page; Firefox returns an error message. Chrome, however, returns a malware warning - that there's content from geocities.com (!). How do I get ride of this and clean it up? Thanks!

Your "under construction" page loads a style sheet from geocities
< link href="http:// geocities . com/js_source/lander-1.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css">
and Google has geocities flagged
Loading content from a flagged site will generate a warning in Chrome, about the only option id to remove the stylesheet.

Thanks much for the info. How do I remove the stylesheet?

You would need to edit the file index.html and remove that line of code.

At the risk of sounding like an idiot...I'm not a webmaster, I don't build websites, I don't know the first thing about coding. I also don't know how to access the index.html file - can you tell me how?. And does it matter what browser I'm using since I can't get into the site via Chrome? (I generally use Firefox.) Much appreciated.

How did that under construction page get onto your hosting account in the first place?
It looks like it may be a standard holding page Yahoo provides for a future small business websites built on their hosting with their tools.
Nasty and irresponsible if they use geocities hosted content, even more so when it's flagged as malicious.
Anyway, you may be able to edit the page's html code from your hosting control panel file manager interface.
Or upload your own index page.
Or better yet, contact Yahoo and give them hell :)

It is a standard Yahoo holding page. And I will give them hell - thanks :)

Thanks for posting. I also brought this up with teams on our side, and it looks like we were able to tweak something there. At any rate, it looks like the message is gone, so you should be all set now :)
Have a great new year!

Indeed it does - I just checked. Thanks so much - you not only fixed it, but you spared me what would have undoubtedly been a frustrating run-around with Yahoo :)
Happy holidays and a great new year to you too! Best./Pam
