Structured Data Dropped Dramatically and so did traffic Nicole Carey 6/17/13 4:51 PM
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.

Hi I'm at  a total loss here :-( My blog has taken a severe drop {beat down} in traffic since June 7th. I've tried to wait it out - thinking it was some sort of fluke. But no, something is very wrong. I've checked webmaster and I can see a dramatic drop in structured data (from 2500 items to 500 items). I can help but believe this is the cause of my {non-existent} traffic. I was averaging at least 100 hits per day. Now, I'm barely seeing 30.

I'm a regular blogger, struggling to keep my website up and running. I've been investing a ton of hours into it for the last 5 YEARS. I finally worked my way up to 4k page views per month just to have this happen -- its frustrating.

I haven't hired any SEO companies (can't afford that). I haven't participated in any illegal SEO practices. All I do besides posting to my blog is submit a guest post every now and again. So for that reason, I can understand why I'd be penalized.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I mean REALLY appreciated. I don't wanna give up on this blog after years of investments, long hours, promotion, marketing, giveaways and sweat equity.

What's wrong?

The most likely causes:

  • The server is down for maintenance
  • There may be a network problem
  • The site may be experiencing excessive load
This website uses CloudFlare in order to help keep it online when the server is down by serving cached copies of pages when they are unavailable. Unfortunately, a cached copy of the page you requested is not available, but you may be able to reach other cached pages on the site.

My structured data dropped on that exact same day too June 7th.  It went from 375 to 93  :-(
We also dropped way down from page 2 to page 6.  We are moving back up now, but I wonder what happened.....?

Me too, structured data dropped from 8300 to 1400 on June 7. All my rich snippets are valid and validate. No black hat at all. The last record was June 18th and now not even showing the last couple days.

My issue seems to have corrected itself. I hope the same is true for everyone else. I just checked. My structured data counts are back to normal.

Mine corrected and went back up also

Mine has gone back up also....  But what the hell was that all about?

Heya - I got the same problem as well.
But mine dropped off on the 11th of June and unfortunately unlike others on this thread, mine does not seem to have returned.

Was there anything special you guys did to make it come back?

A little worried here :^(

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. Our structured data dropped from 160 to 1 overnight, also on June 7. Our impressions dropped from 15-20k per day to less than 1,000 - also on June 7. Neither have come back yet. See screencaps below.

We don't do any sort of SEO trickery or gimmicks, so I'm not sure what's going on but it is a huge problem. If anyone out there knows what's going on please, please, PLEASE let us know.
Re: Structured Data Dropped Dramatically and so did traffic bestu 6/26/13 7:19 PM
Our impressions went from 8k to 2k for no reason May 11 and then on June 5 the impressions went from 2k to only 200 until June 13.  On June 13 impressions went back up to 2k. We area 10 year old site with no black hat seo. It has hurt our business bad going from 8k to 2k impressions even though we buy google ads, have a bing feed, sell on eBay and Amazon. Losing those impressions so fast is a blow, especially when you have not done anything wrong. The sites Google is showing on the first page in my niche when searching for a product we carry are sites like ebay, amazon, fixya, sears and then sites that are spammy, keyword stuffed, use black hat techniques and so forth. I saw sites on the first page with titles in excess of 200 characters ect....,  AND none of the sites have the product searched for, but we do. There has to be a reason for all this and I cannot imagine it staying this way. I mean what is up with this fixya site showing on the first page for product searches in my niche. They could not even relate to my industry which consists of consumable products that do not break!!!

Loginid, basestuff and francismendo, to help we are going to need to know your URLs?

Re: Structured Data Dropped Dramatically and so did traffic damiencaz 6/26/13 7:34 PM
Our url is http://www.tungstenfashions.com  We have come back, but not 100% at all.    We droped from page 1-2 to page 4-5.  It has killed our business and we have never paid for links or did any black hat seo.
Re: Structured Data Dropped Dramatically and so did traffic bestu 6/26/13 7:45 PM
I do not want my url crawled on a forum, that is why I did not put it. I do not agree with posting a problem for the world, customers and competitors to see. It would have to be private if I disclose mine. I am sure a lot of people understand how I feel about blurting out that google kicked you to the curb. Especially an old established site like mine.

I have seen in my time many years ago where good sites suffered during an update, I think it was the jagger one and then came back when the dust settled. Hopefully same scenario.

Mine has also come back up although traffic was not affected throughout the episode (traffic was weird, but not affected as such).

For those whose traffic have been affected, the traffic and ranking may be something to do with all the updates being rolled out by Google this month. Perhaps just wait for another 2 week to see if things settle down?

Thank you for the response. Would love to get this sorted out. I see you're an SEO consultant - are you going to expect compensation for your feedback on this?

I have seen this also with many of my domains.  From June 7-11, we saw the drop. 7.1 million to 2.65 million items.  They are now climbing again, but at a snail's pace.  It looks like we weren't the only ones seeing this problem.

@basestuff, if you don't want to post your domain name you can post a short version of your URL without using your domain name by using goo.gl, bit.ly and/or other.  Please see the example URL below.

@damien has your name always appeared with items? http://goo.gl/PlA0q
