Does changing the title of home page result in dropping of rankings ? David1980Thompson 12/24/13 11:35 PM
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center but could not get specific answers and so I request the forum to please clarify my doubts

My website was ranking on 2nd page on www.google.com.au  for the keyword "Assignment help" till September and then after reading more about penguin and panda updates I tried to change the title of my website and made it more specific to my business offering and more in sync with the content..but the website rankings dropped....

Is it because of changing of the title and meta descriptions ?

looking forward to your valuable inputs...

David

Nope, it's not the title and meta descriptions. I'd recommend reading up about Penguin and looking into how to clean things up for Penguin.

David

while your working on things:

Some validation errors

Lots and lots to work on site speed

I'd watch your use of the word "assignment" - reads a bit spammy to me

As Matt Cutts has possible suggested (never thought I would say that) - you seem to have a problem with your links???

Hey Des,

That is how I got started.  One day you are asking questions about your own site.  The next day you are helping others.  Good to see you helping out.

Hi Manjit

Thank you for these links but your answer has created more questions in my mind. I will state a truth here....my website was handled by a professional SEO guy and after having called him he told that he posted to directories blindly because this formula was working earlier....... :(

All said and done..my doubt here is how do u come to know that these directory submissions are faulty ? how do u judge that ? and where to find good directories to which I should submit my website ?

Looking forward eagerly to your answer :)

Thanks ,
David

3. when you mean assignment reads a bit spammy ..do u mean that we are using assingment word too much in the content ?

David

I know that this can seem scary and also baffling. When I came on the forum I also had trouble with my site (still have to be honest) and I received similar responses.

Fortunately these 3 things can be easily fixed and there is a lot of help out there.

Validation errors should be fixed as they can impact on visitor experience and how the page operates. I am not a word press expert but maybe someone else can jump in.

The GTmetrix results can be also fixed if you click each line on this report, it will release more detail and some information how this can be fixed. Some of your issues are at a server issue and involve some inclusions to your .htaccess file which, when you know how, is no hard.

Regarding the word assignment - way too much. It seems to be written for a search engine and not a human. I got tired reading it.

Your point about hiring a seo guy is usually answered is that it is your site and your responsibility. Links on these directories are not natural (e.g. you placed them) and therefore I would think against guidelines.

Keep up the work and you should be OK in time (that is what I am saying to myself).

Basically they all are.

>>and where to find good directories to which I should submit my website ?
Most likely no such thing.

While not sure what exactly your site does, it rather looks to me like you might be selling essay writing services, which would make you and your panel of "experts" guilty of promoting cheating among students.

Thanks Des

Thank you for your crystal clear suggestions and also motivating me ...and ya i think this makes sense ..its my website so no SEO can do a better work than me...
Can you throw some light on how to distinguish a good directory submission site from a faulty one ? I do agree that most of the SEO guys sell their services like ...
we will do these many directory postings, these many blog postings....blog commenting, article submission..blah blah.....so i think they are making unnatural networking.....but if I should handle all those then I must know some technique where I can filter the good ones from the faulty ones.....( or do u suggest that even I should not do such postings and wait till it happens on its own naturally ? ) ..Kindly suggest

Hi webado

You have pin pointed some very important points I think but when you say " basically they all are " and " most likely no such thing" ...i think you are trying to mean some thing deep which I am sure not able to understand....are you trying to say that directory submission is itself a spammy thing to do for SEO ?

I can't imagine a "good" directory for your type of site.

But any such directories have to be human edited and approved, not ones where you just submit and all gets listed right away, as submitted.

One that Google doesn't usually consider spammy is DMOZ. But I doubt your site would qualify for inclusion there.  I can't think of a single category where it would fit.

The typical directories where submission and inclusion make some sense for searches based on industry (or category)  are local ones,  like Yellow Pages, or a trade focused directory. You'd need a physical address and to fit in a specific category. As I already said, I doubt your site fits anywhere like that. If  you offered tutoring for students it might fit some legitimate academic category. But  essay writing services somehow seems to be stuff for back alleys.

For obvious reasons your site cannot be endorsed by any educational institution, can it? I doubt any student or scholar would refer to your material in the bibliography attached to papers they submit, would they?

Glad you may be a bit more motivated.

webado has really answered some of this - "I can't imagine a "good" directory for your type of site."

I think that you may be coming at this from the wrong way. Stop thinking about where you (un-naturally can place links and against the essence of guidelines) and start thinking about writing great content that will attract others to visit and even create natural links. Get people to talk about you naturally and your on the right road.

It is about becoming "the supplier of choice" or "the place of choice" etc.

You probably have read these but worth a look again

Hi Manjit,

Thanks for the clean backlinks link you provided for David. I like that site ahrefs.com. In my case, my website https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer/overview/subdomains/fearlessflyer.com - I'm drastically losing referring pages. Do you have any idea why this is?
