|Unauthorized access to Google Webmaster Tools||eboga||11/28/12 3:55 AM|
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center.
My URL is
today I had a notification in my Google Webmaster Tools that the Useraccount of our old SEO Agency, which we fired half a year ago, was granted access to our Webmasters Tools. How can find out from which IP address they did access?

News about this has been going around. It seems this is a recent bug in the system, but so far no response from Google on it.
If you go into WMT do you have the option to revoke their access or get the system to re-check?

It looks like there was an issue on our side. For several hours yesterday a small set of Webmaster Tools accounts were incorrectly re-verified for people who previously had access. We've reverted these accounts and are investigating ways to prevent this issue from recurring. Sorry about the confusion there!

John I have email forwarding set up in Google Webmaster Tools, I'm rather curious as to why notification wasn't forwarded to email account? Any information regarding this matter? I've always been notified of changes to the GWT account in the past.

Recently we've started revamping all of the messages that we send to the notification console and via email and have paused email delivery of these while they're being reviewed. I believe this would have included the messages that were recently sent to your Webmaster Tools account. Sorry for the confusion in this regard.

My own account is now unverified having received one of these messages for a different user. Do we now need to add a new file or wait until this is fixed?

Did you try to re-verify it? I think you just need to click verify, but check if it asks for a new meta tag/file.
Anyway, try to have only one verification tag/file and if there are multiple users delegate by email address.

We had to go through the verification process again and re-add the file. Some weird happenings recently on GWT.
