Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/9/11 2:47 AM
I have read the FAQs and checked for similar issues: YES
My site's URL (web address) is: http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk
Description (including timeline of any changes made):

Hi there,

I have been trying to add a google plusone button to my site classicmoviestore.co.uk for 2 days now.

The plusone button shows up on my homepage and all other pages, but on NONE of my product pages.. even though all the correct code is in the page source. Also when a friend clicks my plusone button, it just goes to the red error button with a !

I have tried the js call code at the end of the <head> and at the end of the <body> tag, and it didn't make any difference.

I have been reading these forums for 2 days now and am completely purplexed, any help would be appreciated. I just cannot get it to work.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/9/11 3:46 AM
I have just added (and removed as it made no difference a canonical bit of code that gave an rel="canonical" link to the URL....

After days and days of trying to get this to work I still cannot.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/9/11 4:05 AM
I have some code in my header than forced ie8 to show the page as if it was ie7 (site didnt display properly in ie8 and needed compatibility mode, which this does auto). I have removed this as plusone doesnt work in ie7? Anyway it made no difference so I have put it back.

The absolute url with rel="canonical" didnt work... I think I might just walk away until this is a bit more simple.

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/10/11 4:02 AM
I have found that the google javascript was conflicting with other java on the product pages. Removed that and now plusone appears on all pages....

However it seems to be totally random if and when it works... testing earlier and the button worked and added the page to my +1s in google account, and now when I click them it just gives the red error buttons with ! in the middle....

Are google working on this in the background? Why am I getting such random behaviour?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/10/11 4:04 AM
Also if I made the url https earlier the plusone button would show, with the count..... make the url http and the count goes to zero.

Anyone out there?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/10/11 10:17 AM
There seems to be no one here? I am willing to pay for some help if that makes any difference..

3 days solid on this now, the button works on my homepage if the URL starts with HTTPS, otherwise it doesnt work.

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. czamora194 6/15/11 12:01 PM
I can see the plusone button on your home page (both with http and https) and on your product pages. Did you find a solution to your problem? I have still not managed to display the button on my own site (http://www.tradecardsonline.com) and any hints would be welcomed.

Thanks.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/17/11 12:46 AM
My button displays fine, just turns to the red error button when anyone clicks it. I have just enabled the java console in Firefox, and it shows no errors at all... I have given up on this wasted a week of my time trying to get it to work, will come back when it is bug fixed etc.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. John227 6/20/11 11:19 AM
It looks like Google doesn't support IE 6 or IE 7 (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=4337cbc38093398c&hl=en), so you might just focus on IE 8 & 9.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/20/11 2:50 PM
Hi there John, yes I am aware of that, my button doesn't work in any browsers.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 6/21/11 5:52 AM
Just as an update (I think I am talking to myself here) I tried removing all other javascript from the page, and the button still didn't work.. It just turns red when clicked. However it works perfectly on all https pages, just not on any http pages....

11 days now, no suggestions or support... If someone from google could say it does/doesn't have problems I could get on with something else?

Today I have just looked at my pingdom response time report and since I added this plusone code to my site my response time has slowed down 20%-30% due to plusone. What with it not working anyway spending nearly a month trying to get it to work, I am going to remove this from my site....

If anyone at any time is willing to help let me know.

Just as a test I have created a page just for the plusone button:

No other javascript, no other code, a completely hard coded html page called:

http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/plusone.html

You would this this must work.... but oh no, I still get the red button..... I have put a href attribute in there and that throws the red errors....

Can anyone help? The google code doesnt work when its the only code on the page?

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/1/11 3:46 AM
Its not browser based,

Im on ie 8 here and tried with 6-9 all good and im able to plusone my own pages.

one thing on your test page. This would never work as its pointing to your home page

<g:plusone href="http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk"> </g:plusone>

Anyway Im not sure how zencart creates its urls, but I would strongly suggest placing the canonical link in the header. Every red box ive ever seen has been due to this being either missing or incorrect. I know that its supposedto default to the page your on, but still make life easier and take that out of the equation.

Let us know when its back in place.

Hi there Gordon,

Thanks for you reply.

Ok I have put the canonical link back in place... its at the top of the header just after the <head> tag.... as above it doesn't seem to change anything for me, it still doesn't work...

Also why would the link pointing at my homepage not work? I thought as per the google instructions you could point the plusone at any URL you wanted on a page.. Ie have more than one plusone button on a page plusoneing (?) various other pages.....

Hi there Gordon

Thanks again for your help, have just tried that code too, no button displays.... if i put the standard code generated by google on the html page it works.... just not with the href to another page...(which I think it should) and also wondering why it does not work on my zencart pages...
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/1/11 6:29 AM
Well the point was to proove if it was browser based or not, and that little experiment rules it out.

Now the next thing to look at (and my knowledge of zen cart is minimal) but I guess that there is some sort of redirect of pages to make them apear more friendly?

I would look into that side of things, try the page with the

<link rel="canonical" href=http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/actual name given to the page before redirection>

in wordpress this is called the shortlink, not sure bout zen

but like i say, EVERY time ive seen a problem with the +1 button, its been due to canonical and source address issues.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/1/11 8:09 AM
Hi there once again Gordon many thanks for your help.

Yes I am using a URL rewrite module which makes the URLs more user friendly.... however as you suggested I turned this off just now, and put the url in the canonical url in the head as well, and the button still does not work... just a red ! comes up when clicked....exactly the same behaviour...

The plusone button works perfectly in Google Chrome, when the pages start with https on my site.

Sorry to report that it still doesnt work... however I am inclined to agree with you that this looks the most obvious/likely source of the problem....

I find it odd that I get the same results when clicking my results in the SERPS... can you try that? How can google create a page on their own site that doesnt work.... leads me to believe plusone has a way to go yet?

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. rgsag 7/7/11 12:05 PM
Hi Philip,

I took a look at your page and saw the red ! after clicking. I was looking at http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/last-of-the-summer-wine-dvd-p-429.html

On a hunch I checked the page URL at InternetOfficer.com's Redirect Checker (http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/) and found this chain of redirects:

302 (Moved Temporarily) redirect to: http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/last-of-the-summer-wine-dvd-p-429.html?main_page=product_info&products_id=429&zenid=1202cb1498a13957bb892edc7fae8d85

301 (Moved Permanently) redirect to: http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/last-of-the-summer-wine-dvd-p-429.html?zenid=1202cb1498a13957bb892edc7fae8d85

JohnMu, the Google employee who commented on this thread a few weeks ago, had commented on a separate thread (http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=34a1f92c4ab51100&hl=en) stating that Google +1 does not transfer across 301 or 302 redirects.

Sorry to say, but as it looks like zencart is behind the redirects, I am not really sure how to get a working implementation of the +1 button for you. Perhaps try a test page with a +1 button pointing (use href attribute) to the 'final' page linked above, after the 301 redirect. If that works, you may be able to hack together a working implementation if you can get zencart to tell you the 'final' URL.

Hope this helps,

Richard
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/7/11 2:08 PM
Hi there Richard,

Thankyou for your input, much appreciated....

I will try to href the last URL... however it contains your customer session ID..... the URL rewrite try's to not show the session IDs. Surely everyone that ever plusones my site will plusone a new unique URL....a URL with their session ID in? (the zenid bit)

Maybe plusone does not work on ecommerce sites?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/7/11 3:14 PM
Philip,

its like I said earlier,

Using the rel canonical meta will tell the +1 which is the required URL, without it the code takes the url the user is on.

While my example uses wordpress, I can proove this to you with this simple explanation.
My worpress takes the last post i make and puts it on the front page, I have an addon that adds the canonical link for each post.
When my latest post is published, this canonical link is also added to the front page code, which then superceds the standard front page canonical (i now have two in there)

So people were actually +1ing an inner page rather than the front page untill I found out, when I fixed it I see that my internal page keeps the +1's and my front page goes back to what its supposed to be.

So either define the canonical explicitly per plus one button

eg -   <g:plusone href="http://www.example.com/blog"></g:plusone>

or add a lel canonical in the header

Untill one of these are in place you cant beging to trouble shoot the problem
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/8/11 12:55 AM
Hi there Gordon,

There is an absolute  rel canonical meta on every page and has been for a while... I have also tried this in the tags <g:plusone href="http://www.example.com/blog"></g:plusone>

Doesn't work either way. Still get the red!
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/10/11 1:18 AM
Is there a way of finding out what the real url is for http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/open-all-hours-dvd-set-p-476.html before zen cart performs is redirection to the friendly name?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 8:03 AM
Hi there Gordon,

Yes it would be http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=476

However if you had come to the site as a customer you would or may have a customer session id on the url too... is this a limitation of plusone?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/11/11 8:22 AM
Phil,

Oh dear,

Check out muy profile for my visable +1's

here is a test page ive made for you with a number of versions

You need the pre-redirected source address, with the name that Zen stores the page into the database with.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/11/11 8:24 AM
The +1 is now visable on the page for that cd as well

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 9:08 AM
Hi there Gordon,

Firstly thanks so much for your help, we are getting somwhere here!

Like you say of the links you have provided on the test page only the last of the summer wine page works for me... the Open All hours page does not... even though they are both the pre-redirected urls.. The last of the summer wine link has your customer session id...... and it works......how come that doesnt plusone a url with your session id in it?

so the URL indexed in google serp results which shows the plusones is not the same as the URL that I am plusone ing.....
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 9:10 AM
Am i going to start getting URLs indexed in the serps which do not correspond to the URLs on my site? and which have customer session id's in them?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 9:11 AM
Ahhh hold on the URLs in your test page are not the pre-redirected URLs.....they are the current URLs. even more confused now...
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/11/11 9:17 AM
I really don't know the answer to this, have you checked out other Zen sites to see how they have theirs and If its working ok?

I've had a (admittedly, very fast) look and couldn't come up with any examples

I'm not sure if Google will use the +1 database as a source of URLs, but I think they probably would, there is not much point in them compiling a database like this without them using it for something
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 9:19 AM
Wow I am testing this on my site now......

if the link href is:

http://www.classicmoviestore.co.uk/last-of-the-summer-wine-dvd-p-429.html?zenid=1202cb1498a13957bb892edc7fae8d85

The plusone buttons works perfectly.....

if I remove the zenid bit, the button stops working...

If I just add zenid= on the end, the button works again, but the count is not correct.....

Totally confused now.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 9:23 AM
the urls seem to just need a ?zenid= on the end and they start working......

How bizarre. It would be great if anyone from google could chime in?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. rgsag 7/11/11 9:47 AM
Hi Philip,

I'm at the end of my abilities here and I can't recommend anything that would get this working for you. Hoping someone else may be able to, but here's why I'm stuck:

I think the Google +1 server is trying to resolve the link you send to it to validate the URL is a real page (we know it has to do this because otherwise the fact that the request is redirected would not matter). If that's the case, zencart is going to treat the Google +1 server's request as a separate session and thus give it a separate zenid.

I'm afraid that if that's the case, it doesn't really matter what URL you're +1'ing because Google will always see a different/redirected URL. Thus none of the +1's passed to it will validate. It can't find the URL you send because the constant assignment of a zenid means there's a redirect which cannot be followed and even if it could, the final URL that Google +1 sees is not the url that was passed through the button.

In short, the URL's will never match, because your canonical link (used in SERPs) will be redirected to assign it a zenid, and even if you supply a link with the zenid, it won't match the canonical link in the SERP.

This would also explain why you see the red ! when clicking +1 on your pages in SERPs generated by Google itself.

I don't see how you can ever translate on-page +1's to SERP +1's since you can't use the same URL.

This is something Google should address as part of the +1 button 'growing pains'. The button SHOULD accept the canonical URL, since those are what's listed in SERPs. It sounds like a 'security feature' gone bad.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. numinix 7/11/11 10:09 AM
What version of Zen Cart are you using?  There have been many fixes to how Zen Cart handles sessions in 1.3.9h.  Our Google+ Button mod works fine on our client's websites that use 1.3.9h.  There are issues when used on a 1.3.8a website.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 10:40 AM
Hi there guys,

Thanks again for your time.... the zen version is 1.3.7 and sorry to say when I made the site I was a complete novice and hardcoded too many things to be able to update it easily.... Im hoping it will last another few years as long as DVDs last.. However is it a bug fix numinix, do newer versions of zen not have session ids in the URL?

rgsag, the total count of plusones does actually reflect correctly and does work, however I have had my current URLs indexed in google for years now and they rank well... the last thing I want to happen is google de-index them and replace them with the same URLS with ?zenid= on the end and think they are completely new pages....that would completely negate the benefit of the plusone button.

Like you say, what is the point of having the canonical tag if google dont believe you. Plus the fact they have indexed and spidered those urls for years and they are in my sitemap.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 10:44 AM
Like I say, now with ?zenid= on the end of the href url the plusone button works....... the count is updating as well and shows on the URL without the ?zenid= on it.....

If anyone from google could confirm that is ok?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/11/11 10:46 AM
The plusone button in the google serps does not work.... and as its on googles own page I would like to think they are responsible for making it work... and am somewhat surprised they would put their own buttons on their own pages that don't function.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/11/11 12:02 PM
I think thats because they have the normal url in their SERPS, clicking that link takes you to your site which then apends the zenid to each session.

Probably why they dont support 301 or 302 redirects

I think your best bet is to upgrade, I can't see them waisting a lot of developement time on a system thats not the current build.

Then again, I don't know what the pain of upgrading Zen is so that coment may seem a bit flipant

Google,

Your API is broken.  You think it isn't, but it really is. What good is the plus one button if it doesn't work in every browser that is in common usage?  You're Google, you know which browsers people are using, yet you won't design your plus one button to work with them. I've copied the exact example code from your Plus One Button documentation, pasted it into an empty page and loaded it in Firefox and IE (on Windows), and Firefox on Linux, and it doesn't render anywhere outside of Chrome.  Let me repeat, your API is broken. The more I find these kinds of incompatibilities, the less I want to use Google services.  Hell, Facebook can make their "Like" button work everywhere, yet you can't get your Plus One button working?

Hi there, thanks but maybe your comments could go in another thread as I am not talking about browser compatability. This is a bug which means the plusone button does not work on googles result pages. However no one from google has commented yet.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 7/19/11 2:55 AM
My daily bump. Google employees are regularly on these boards answering other posts, and have even been on this post saying they will look into it, and yet after over a month now specifically do not answer this post.

Can they not say, plusone doesn't work perfectly yet, we are aware of this and are working on it? Rather than leave me working on this, frustrated and banging my head against the wall for over a month.

If no one from google can help, can you at least please put me out of my misery?

Hi Philip,

I found this thread while trying for a second time to solve the same problem. I can't even get the button to display on a trivial page. I wasted just short of a week last time trying to fix this. Thanks to your (very long) thread, I'm giving up. I only wasted a day this time.

Thanks.

Hi guys thanks for your thread,  have wasted nearly 2 months on this now. I think the fact that Google do not post on this thread does actually speak volumes. What is the saying, your silence speaks more than words.

Could anyone (ideally google) confirm/deny what is claimed above that google will penalize any page where the +1 button doesn't work?

If this is the case I will pull it pronto.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 7/25/11 5:54 AM
We are not even sure Google will put much positive weight on the plus 1 yet, so any benefits at this point will be minor.

I woud not worry to much about it to be honest. Outside of certain technical areas, people have little idea what the gogole profile is, and non-gmailers seem scared to create a profile when asked anyway.

Its got a way to go till it is in the same boat as he facebook like (which I dont bother with anyway)

They probably don't have an answer yet. The newer version of Zen Cart seems to support +1 ok, so they could at least say "sorry we don't support legacy versions". They send you a mail if your wordpress is out of date afterall.

The +1 on my blog has been offline 95% of the time this past week (www.Peon25.com) -- I can get Facebook/etc to work just fine, and you can even see the space where +1 was / is supposed to be, but it no longer displays. Multiple browsers, multiple computers, logged into Google or not. It makes no difference.

I think you might consider the fact that your daily posts are not going to get anybody any closer to a resolution and that perhaps the Google Staff considers the ongoing diatribe just a bit trite.  Your "daily journal" belongs right there, in your daily journal or blog with links in and out of this forum subject.

It is an arrogant and rather unsightly attitude that Google takes, however.

You might also consider that may Google Staff are rewarded with Google stock and Google has a best interest to support their own browser first and that of major competitor Microsoft second.

Lastly, 1+ is going to dovetail to the new Social Networking tools that Google is building to compete with Facebook and others.  Consider the ploy and inner strategy and stop wasting time on getting 1+ to work on your own site.

We did.

For the record, about 17% of our site visitors use a browser other than IE.  They don't click 1+ either.  "click happiness" is going away in the society as more and more people realize that they are only helping out the "big G" and helping to direct a lot of online advertising madness that simply targets the visitor for more "stuff".

Open up a copy of FF, Chrome, Safari, or whatever else you might use and 1+ a few of your items on your website.  Then flick over to your favorite site analytics service.  I think that you will see that the effect upon your own site elevation in rankings is pretty slim.

Dynamic content, a robust keyword strategy, and solid page coding will do more to place your site and pages at the top of results than 1+

Hi there,

Thanks for your comments and opinions.. However this is a google support forum, and it would be best to stay on topic which is the plusone button and the fact that I cannot get it to work on my site.

If you can help with this specific task please let me know.

I will decide the merrits of plusone when I can get it to work.

And yes I use chrome, and test in all browsers.

Thanks

I experienced same problem and removing <link rel="image_src" type="some.jpg" /> worked for me. Also keep in mind that Google +1 caches pages. So you have to try a unique URL or parameter each time to prevent getting constant false exclamation marks.

Hope that helps,

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. fret_24 8/4/11 11:05 AM
I just found that if your domain has capital letters in it, it will completely break the plus one rendering. You can go use their code generator tool and enter http://www.Google.com for the URL to +1 and it won't render. That sucks and is really hard to figure out. I read your entire thread last night and had to come back and see if that could possibly help you too.

Hi there I just just checked the code google give to add the plusone button and note it has changed a lot in the months that I have been trying to get this to work. Just updated to the new code, and exactly the same. it does not work still.

I guess the fact that google change the code so much shows they haven't tested this much before release?
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. GordonP2 8/7/11 11:44 AM
"they haven't tested this much before release"

Bit unfair given the millions of combinations, multiple browsers and the use of software versions that are not the current release.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying +1 works or is broken (some pages of mine show zero, you have voted blah blah)

but still, A "blue" post would be appreciated. Its not like you haven't tried to help yourself.

Thanks for your patience here and the steady stream of updates. For now I recommend you take a break while we keep digging. I'll make sure this issue is getting ongoing attention until we figure out what's up.

Cheers!

Is there something I can check on on my side, so I can know it's Google and that I should therefore *not* redirect?  I didn't see a user agent or referrer coming across.  If I had that, I could code my response to avoid the 302 redirect.

Thanks,

Hi Philip,

I have an update :)

It looks like your web server or web site is configured in such a way that if one attempts to fetch pages with cookies disabled, the page redirects. Is it possible for you to disable this feature to see if it resolves the issues you're seeing with the +1 button?

Thanks,
Jenny
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 9/6/11 9:34 AM
Hi there Jenny,

Right this is somewhat above my head, but yes the pages redirect as I use a URL rewrite tool to tidy them up and remove session id's and customer ids etc.

I have tried a few times before turning that off and on and it made no difference. Just tried it now. So I think no is the answer.

 Also when I fetched the pages without cookies enabled, google plusone wouldnt let me plusone anyway, when I logged in it said cookies are disabled and kicked me out.
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. webshzu 9/8/11 10:04 PM
Found  +1 button code is incompatible with php Gzip Compression.  When the compression is active and the button is clicked, the button turns red after a few seconds.  If compression isn't active, button works.

The compression code is initiated by ob_start(), which has to be a the beginning of the php page and before the +1 javascript.

Anyone else having this problem?  I can't afford not to compress pages, but would also like the +1 button to work.

Here's the compression code:

<?php

function print_gzipped_page() {

    global $HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING;
    if( headers_sent() ){
        $encoding = false;
    }elseif( strpos($HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING, 'x-gzip') !== false ){
        $encoding = 'x-gzip';
    }elseif( strpos($HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING,'gzip') !== false ){
        $encoding = 'gzip';
    }else{
        $encoding = false;
    }

    if( $encoding ){
        $contents = ob_get_contents();
        ob_end_clean();
        header('Content-Encoding: '.$encoding);
        print("\x1f\x8b\x08\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00");
        $size = strlen($contents);
        $contents = gzcompress($contents, 9);
        $contents = substr($contents, 0, $size);
        print($contents);
        exit();
    }else{
        ob_end_flush();
        exit();
    }
}

// At the beginning of each page
ob_start();
ob_implicit_flush(0);

// Call to output everything as gzipped content.
print_gzipped_page();

?>

So I had a look on Philip99 website (www.classicmoviestore.co.uk) and tried to +1.  It logged it for 5 seconds and then went to the red ! symbol so it still not working properly.  Google are stressing the importance of clear information from the 22/09/11 and yet still cant figure this coding problem - Really dont understand.

I have the +1 on my website (www.formyoffice.co.uk) and thought it was finally working properly when I checked one moring and saw 2 people had +1'd me, but when I did some work at home and opened my website the information is not visible

Really hope that Google get on this for Philip66 and all the rest of us too!!!  He has been very patient with trying to get a resolve, I will try to be as patient but weeks without a response - Unbelievably unhelpful!!!!

Confused. Would be great if someone at google could spend 2 mins on this..

Hi fix plus one,

Could you please link to an example of this issue? I'd love to take a look.

I'm listening :) Sometimes things can be more complicated than it seems and as a result can take some time to be resolved.

Hi again Philip99,

The redirect behavior I described above is triggering a pretty unusual bug. We're working to fix it, but it may be some time before we're able to release it. In the mean time you may want to see if playing with your web server's configuration, especially the way it handles sessions, clears up the issue.

Thanks everyone,
Jenny

Here are the links to two identical sites except one uses php Gzip compression and one does not -- code is commented out.

http://e-cyclingcenter.com  -- NO COMPRESSION (very temporary test site)
http://ecyclingcenter.com -- COMPRESSION (live production site)

While you can check out any page, here are a few identical links on each site:

http://e-cyclingcenter.com/index.html
http://ecyclingcenter.com/index.html

http://e-cyclingcenter.com/electronics-recycling-Alleghany%20Transfer%20Station-Alleghany-CA-815-recyclers.html
http://ecyclingcenter.com/electronics-recycling-Alleghany%20Transfer%20Station-Alleghany-CA-815-recyclers.html

http://e-cyclingcenter.com/Indiana-electronics-recycling-resources.html
http://ecyclingcenter.com/Indiana-electronics-recycling-resources.html

http://e-cyclingcenter.com/electronics-recycling-event-Seattle-Washington-0000-00-00-70.html
http://ecyclingcenter.com/electronics-recycling-event-Seattle-Washington-0000-00-00-70.html

Also, there are some pages on the production site not using compression, e.g. blog, so you might find a few pages on the production site without a problem.

Of course, it's also possible that there something else contributing to the problem that I haven't found yet.

Please let me know as soon as you are done with these sites, so I can shutdown the test site and remove the +1 button from the production site until I can get it working on all pages.

Thanks

I had the same problem. My solution was to updated a java script library(prototype.js.) Once I updated to the latest version the Google+ show up properly. You may not have this script running on your site but some other old script that needs to be updated.

Not know how your server is setp my java scripts are in a directory called js or javescript it could really reside any where. I link to my scripts through a tag in the header of my page structure but you could have the script in the actual page in question. Maybe run a test take one of your pages build it out in HTML omit all javascripts and see if it works. If it works add a script at a time until the problem returns then you will know which script is the cause.

Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. Jenny Murphy 10/5/11 11:06 AM
Hi Philip,

I'm still seeing a redirect on your main page. This is most likely the cause of the issue. If you disable this redirect the +1 button should work. This redirect happens to me when I visit your site without a session cookie.

If disabling the redirect is not possible, lets try something a bit different. Have you ever tried using the +1 button on your site without the <link rel="canonical" ...> element on your page? If not, could you please try removing it?

Thanks,
Jenny
Re: Why does my plusone button not show up on some pages, and not work on the ones it does. philip99 10/7/11 2:13 AM
Hi there Jenny,

Yes as I have said before I have turned this off and it didnt help, I even completely removed my htaccess file yesterday and it made no difference.

I have also tried without the canonical link, as this is how I was doing it at first. And it makes no difference.

However if I create a test html page, the button does work, so it would seem to be something on my site.

We seem to be getting nowhere here, I have been working on this since the beginning of June,

Is there anyone I can pay to help me? I just want this to work.

From our side it looks like the redirect behavior is causing the issue, but it may also be masking a second issue. Is there any that you can leave the redirect disabled so that we can see how things behave with it disabled?

Hi there Jenny,

Sorry to say if I turn the redirect off which is responsible for cleaning my URLs of session ids etc etc for any period of time, I fear that all the pages of my site which have been indexed in google for many many years and rank well will be de-indexed/re-indexed as new pages.

Ive been trying to get this to work for nearly 5 months, to be honest Im pretty much going to give up on trying to get plus one to work. Its a shame.
