|Only title and no description in google search result||Hynek Kvapil||12/25/12 12:31 AM|
few of websites which I created are showing no description in google search result on any of its pages (for example http://www.google.com/search?q=dan+yeffet). I am not a SEO expert but I think that I know basics pretty well. I have made lot of sites and there has not been any problems like that. I checked robots.txt, sitemap, head meta tags (title and description) and no errors in webmaster tool. Only problem that comes to my mind is that maybe there is not enough text information on the pages because they are mainly based on images, but on subpages there is enough text information (for example http://danyeffet.com/work/balloons). I am suffering by this issue for more than month and it is pretty frustrating.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice

Looks like you're telling the googlebot not to show a snippet:
<meta name="googlebot" content="index,follow,nosnippet,archive" />
From Google: http://googleblog.blogspot.ca/2007/02/robots-exclusion-protocol.html
That's a new one for me; didn't know there was a "nosnippet". I could be misinterpreting what "nosnippet" means, but it does seem like this is the problem.

Shame on me. That sounds pretty logical. I will give it a try. Love you ;)

Suzanneh is exactly right.
Normally when you don't see a snippet, it's because someone blocked the site in robots.txt. It happened often enough (and it was often a mistake) that we started showing a phrase like "A description for this result is not available because of this site's robots.txt" in the snippet instead of leaving it blank. In this case, since it was because of a meta tag, that didn't show in the snippet.

I've already made suggested change in meta tag. It will take probably week or so at least to see the results with description, right? Thank you again for your time and sorry for my foolish mistake. I appreciate it a lot.

I'm already seeing the description! :-)
Everybody makes these kinds of mistakes at one time or another. I've seen seasoned webmasters come in here and realize they inadvertently put in a "noindex" somewhere. Sometimes it's the little things that throw us off. :-)

Can I quote you on that to my significant other? And change "exactly" to "always"? ;-)
