I selected a new GV number (the most easy-to-recall for the business line), and added my forwarding number (Mobile# with T-Mobile). I received the confirmation email (Welcome to Google Voice) with the number I selected, and a bunch of YouTube promo/feature videos. When I go into Voice, it shows only the regular "Access Number" for the voicemail, the one that is automatically assigned before you get your GV number. Clicking the number link in the welcome email, or dialing the selected GV number directly gives an error message (could not complete your call...please try again).
So, at this point it's a dead end. I tried going into select the number again (thinking it had not been assigned) but it was no longer there.
I don't have any "Upgrade" button I've heard described in some of the related topic posts.
I'm not sure what else to try. Any assistance here is welcome!

Any Google People Monitoring your forum that can jump in? (Don't mean to insult, but in the G+ forum, Google team people are ALWAYS responding to issues like this.)

I received the email stating I got the number, but it doesn't work, or show up in the access number position.

I signed up under Lite, which gave me an "Access Number" (I suppose, just a number to call to access the Voicemail box). Then, I requested a GV number, using the interface in the GV Web interface, which asked me to choose a number (I chose a local number that was easily memorable for potential clients, since none of the word or phrases I searched yielded anything). Once I selected it, it asked me to put a forwarding number, and I received an email confirming that I now have the number I requested, and a bunch of YouTube Videos highlighting features of GV...Here's the text of it, minus the videos and the exact GV# I chose (I don't want random calls once it starts working!):

Also, when I call the number it says "could not complete your call...please try again", So I thought they must not have successfully assigned it. But if I go back and try to get the number assigned successfully, the one I selected is no longer there, (so it must have been assigned to me, ergo the welcome email)...
When I go to the GV interface, the number doesn't appear anywhere, just the "Access#". As far as I can tell, the number I chose (which I'd like to keep, if at all possible, since it was the best, most memorable option there was) wasn't associated with my acct.

Any further troubleshooting here? Since it seems the number was assigned to me, (using the link you provided) what else can I do? It still doesn't show up or work

So it seems there is no solution to this problem? According to the link in the thread above, I DO have control of the number, but I'm still not able to use it, see it or anything else. I'm about ready to abandon Voice as a failed Google product. It seems there are still significant bugs that nobody knows how to handle.
