I am not receiving voice mail notifications on a stock galaxy s3. I receive the gmail with the transcription but no status bar message for a new voice mail. The notifications are working fine on my Transformer TF-101 with the stock ICS update.

You wrote, "no status bar message"
On your android tap menu > tap Settings > Tap Display > enable Roaming Banner
Enable Voicemail notification at https://www.google.com/voice/b/0#voicemailsettings and click on SAVE Changes
Have you discovered Google Drive?

I have the same problem where my new Verizon GS3 does not receive the GV notifications. I transferred it from my HTC Incredible. The GS3 does not have the "Roaming Banner" as an option to enable. Is there another option?
Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Samsung said that they cannot offer support on third party apps. HOWEVER, it works now. Here is what I did. I'm not sure which step caused it to work. Because I had GV on a previous Droid (HTC Incredible), I did the following:
1) Factory reset my old phone removing GV.
2) Deactivated my voicemail settings from my GS3 using the GV instructions on the web from my laptop.
3) Uninstalled GV on the GS3.
4) Rebooted my phone.
5) Reinstalled GV on the GS3
6) Reactivated GV from the web.
Voila. Then it worked. The notifications began to appear in the notifications bar. Again, not sure which step made it work. However, the six steps were very quick; factory resetting the DInc told the most time. After that, steps 2-6 only took about 10 minutes. I hope that helps any future GS3 users.

I'm was in the exact same situation. I'm on Verizon and upgraded from an HTC Incredible to a Galaxy S3 and my GV notifications were not working. The steps you posted worked perfectly. Thank you very much for posting your findings.
One note: I didn't follow the steps exactly as I still have data on my Incredible that I want to keep until I'm fully transitioned over to my S3. Here's what I did:
1. Uninstalled GV from old phone.
2. Deactivated GV on the web.
3. No GV uninstall necessary on my S3. I did a factory reset last night to start clean (I was downloading and eval'ing a ton of apps)
4. No S3 reboot necessary (see #4)
5. Installed GV on S3.
6. Reactivated GV on the web.
7. Opened GV on the S3 and followed prompts to sign in. At the end of the procedure, I was presented with the same error dialog stating something like "my carrier doesn't support this...blah, blah" and I just hit ok (or whatever button was the opposite of Cancel)
It worked great and again, thank you for taking the time to post this.

My next question is I already had deleted it from my old phone and from the web a week before I got the s3? Should I do a factory reset on the s3 and then uninstall the ap and then the web? I signed out of the app yesterday and signed back in pressing integrate again on the gv app. Should I do a factory reset then? I did not get any other calls last night so I am not sure if the sign in and out worked yet.

Its up to you.. I have discovered many GV tips and tricks by testing and posting in this forum, such as all of my replies in 2009 on using Speed Dialing back when smartphones were gaining popularity and people still had dumbphones.

Not that I didn't appreciate the post, a lot, but it didn't work for me. With Voice uninstalled on my two other gadgets and the phone, and three cycles of deactivating and activating, I couldn't get it to work,
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||JKFP||7/14/12 8:39 PM|
I even tried clearing the dalvik cache in between. No go.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||JKFP||7/14/12 9:25 PM|
It's only outgoing calls that show "wonky" numbers. So, I guess I'll use GroveIP as often as I can. It works better than what came on the phone. Pity.

I am also having this issue on a Stock Verizon SGS 3. I get notifications as long as I've been inside the app within the last 10 minutes or so, but when then I won't get anymore notifications of texts or voicemails through the app. Need help with this ASAP as I use Google Voice as my main number...
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||ronaldelsworth||7/19/12 3:48 AM|
I have a Sprint Galaxy S3 and am using Google Voice integration. For me to get notifications I had to go into the Google Voice settings on the phone (open the Google Voice app, tap the option key left of the home key, choose settings), choose Sync and notifications, make sure Background data is enabled, choose receive text messages via the Google Voice app and check Voicemail notifications. I hope that is helpful to some of you.

Thanks, all! I was having the same issue with my new GS3 not receiving voicemail notifications in the status bar. I did a factory data reset on my old phone (GS1), uninstalled/reinstalled GV on GS3, & deactivated my Verizon number on GV web settings...when I reactivated my Verizon number it worked like a charm.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||mudwoman||7/29/12 9:43 PM|
I just uninstalled the GV app, rebooted the phone, then reinstalled it, and it started working for me. Didn't have to take it off my old phone (which is now a wifi-enabled mini-tablet, and still gets the GV messages, as well).

I have a galaxy S2 with ics 4.0.4 (same as the S3) I have the same problem of wonky numbers, I don't want to factory reset the phone, too many apps to re-install Did someone found any others way to have a correct call log.without these wonky numbers?
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||mudwoman||8/28/12 5:02 PM|
The "wonky" numbers are the Google Voice access numbers, which is what your phone is actually dialing. They used to display only while dialing out, and then the actual number you were calling through GV would show up in the call log on the phone. But alas, they appear to have skipped that function with the new software. You have to check your GV history, either on line or through your app, to see what contact was actually called. Wish they'd fix this.
|Call logs showing weird numbers rather than actual called numbers||sandeeppotdar||9/21/12 12:39 PM|
I have this problem as well. I upgraded my GS2 (TMobile) from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 and now Google Voice doesn't log the actual called numbers but rather weird (Google Access Numbers). I hate to factory reset. Too much work. And neither has anyone guaranteed it will work. Is there anything else that we can do? Or can someone confirm if factory resetting will solve this? (Though I wonder how will factory resetting help if the bug is with the dialer apk)
|Re: Call logs showing weird numbers rather than actual called numbers||mudwoman||9/21/12 5:46 PM|
As noted above, this seems to be in the OS software, and I have found no setting that will force the phone to display the actual phone number instead of the GV access number. Don't know why the new OS is doing this, because my Froyo displayed the number I called, not the GV number. I don't rely on the phone log on the phone, but rather the History page on line.
But it does really screw up the "redial" option. Hope they fix it.

Just upgraded from the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (4.0.4) to the S3 (4.0.4) with AT&T. I'm also having the problem of the outgoing number and call logs showing the GV access number. Really hope this is fixed with the next update. This problem is in Google hands, not Samsung's.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||lghitis||11/7/12 5:57 AM|
I had the same problem, and I fixed it very easily.
Uninstall GV. get an old apk version of GV. Install it and then update. It is working fine fior me now.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||Jerome B||11/7/12 7:39 AM|
That didn't work for me, still wonky numbers.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||sandeeppotdar||11/7/12 7:51 AM|
Didn't work for me either! And I don't think it's Google Voice. The problem is with Sammy's ROM dialer
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||JohnDubya||11/8/12 10:04 AM|
For everyone's information, I had this same problem on my stock Galaxy S3 with Verizon, where notifications stopped popping up when I received a voicemail.
I went to the Google Voice app, went to the Settings, and unchecked the "Voicemail display" option. After I did that, I started receiving notifications for voicemails through Google Voice again. Don't know why that worked, but it did. Hope that helps.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||mudwoman||11/8/12 11:14 AM|
Thanks JohnDubya - your suggestion sent me to another possible setting that might be causing problems: be sure under your general phone "Settings," in "Accounts and sync," you have sync turned on for the account associated with your GV #. You can also get there through the GV app through (menu key) Settings, Syncs and notifications, Background data. It should say "Enabled" (and even if it does, you might want to check that the specific account you want notifications from is enabled).
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||Robin Dean||11/10/12 11:00 AM|
I've tried ALL of these things and still no solution. No notifications!
I'm rooted and have frozen some apps but ... this came waaay after that.
I'd like to avoid a factory reset.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||mudwoman||11/10/12 4:36 PM|
As a work-around for everyone, make sure that under "Settings," "Voicemail and texts," you have "Voicemail notifications" set to forward an email to the Google account associated with your phone, so you will at least get the Gmail (or other email) notification.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||Robin Dean||11/14/12 3:07 PM|
There are even more concerns than those listed here. It took me a few days to figure out why my phone was having so much difficulty receiving texts. Here's how I figured it out.
1) I use ADW launcher. Some use "go" launcher. There are others out there and then there are people who just stick to the stock home application.
2) Because I use ADW, I decided to "freeze" TouchWiz using Titanium Backup. I mean, hey, I have "no use" for it sooo why wouldn't I, right?
Here's why ...
3) When updating apps that are stock supported, SOME of them require settings that are maintained by TouchWiz at installation. As it turns out, GV wasn't logged in via TouchWiz (issue 1) and then even AFTER that, the STOCK messaging app was set as the default inside of GV settings.
4) Alterations made using TouchWiz
5) TouchWiz frozen again ... until next time, Batman ... until next time!
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||Robin Dean||11/15/12 7:59 AM|
My own solution, posted above, has failed me.
I thought I'd figured it out, so I fully restored my previous ROM (with the error in GV) so that I could get my general settings back. My "fix" didn't work on that restore point.
|Re: No voice mail notifications on galaxy s3||Untermunch||11/17/12 5:27 AM|
Had the same issue on my GS3, uninstalled the app, did a restart on the phone, and re-installed it. It worked immediately upon the restart.
