|How can you change the Terrain while you are still in building maker...........||KilianREMofCA||3/14/12 1:25 PM|
SketchUp Version: google sketch up building maker will not allow me to change the terrain while i am building my home therefore when i send in my review in order to have the house displayed in google earth pro, the guys who are reviewing are probably looking at this house like WTF why half this house's first level underground? How can i change it so i can just build without having to worry about seeing situations like this when i go from editing to the viewer mode. Maybe it just doesnt matter?! Cause when i actually do get the home permitted into google earth I can change the Terrain myself in there so it wont be inside the house?! Someone please help no matter what i do i cant get this house above a certain part of this hill its sitting on and it looks like i do everything fine in the editor mode, then i go into viewer mode and it's BUNK!!!!

what do you mean by editing the terrain (you can not change the terrain of Google Earth directly). What you describe looks to me like two problems.
1. You get model rejections (from reviewers) that you don't want to get. If you just use Building Maker to model a building that you want to use yourself for a design, but don't want to submit it to Google Earth, you can also set it "not ready for Google Earth". You find this on the model details page in 3D Warehouse by clicking edit → edit details. Unfortunately Building Maker models are by default submitted immediately into the review queue, not even with an option to save as a draft.
2. In SketchUp itself (not in Building Maker) you can import a snapshot of the area and terrain. This terrain is locked. While it would be editable after unlocking, it doesn't affect the Google Earth terrain. If you don't intend your model for Google Earth you can just edit it without worrying, but if you want to add changes for the Google Earth terrain, you would better create your own additional terrain on top of it. For example if the building sits in reality higher, you would add a "terrain skirt". If the building sits deeper, you can not dig into the Google Earth terrain, so you would raise a terrain skirt up and add a depression in the center.

Here is a link to my House. I am planning on submitting this like i already have and using it in Google Earth Pro. The problem is, when you view it through google earth viewer the Terrain is perfect on one side than raise up halfway through the lower level of my house on the otherside. I am in the process of dowloading the converted file to put it through sketchup to tweak the textures and the roofing. If there is anything more i should do in Building maker before i take it through sketch up please let me know. It may look like the 2nd level is floating but that is only because i am waiting to get into Sketch up to add a more favorable roofing fixture seeing as how building maker doesn't give you many options. Let me know if you think that having it look this way is going to affect the building overall once the final draft is submitted. Although i noticed in Google Earth Pro you can tweak the terrain so it is not in the way whatsoever. Ill probably just end up doing that when i view the house if i cant figure out how to fix this problem.
