| Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Chris Wallin | 14/08/18 09:26 | After having the Pie System Update pushed to my phone, my Google Pixel continues to freeze and reset and has zero functionality. What is the best way to have this resolved? |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Techno Bill | 16/08/18 15:32 | Chris: Does it still freeze if you boot into Safe Mode when only Android apps are running? If it doesn't freeze when in Safe Mode, then you probably have a third party app that has not been updated for compatibility with Android Pie. Cheers Bill |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | ehoward2011 | 18/08/18 11:19 | I am having the same problem. When I get a phone call, my phone will normally freeze. Sometimes it will allow me to answer, but there is no audio. Every once in a while I can get audio from the call by switching to speaker phone. Mostly, though, it will just freeze and I have to reboot. When the phone reboots, often the fingerprint scanner will not work and I need to input the pattern to unlock. Then it will unlock but then have a grey screen over my home screen that has to be unlocked again. Audio does not work on my phone now with youtube or spotify (or any other apps). I have tried to use safe mode and still have all of these problems. This started happening immediately after updating to Android P. PLEASE HELP! the update has made my phone completely unusable as a phone... |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Amanda Cat | 20/08/18 18:46 | I have the same issue! I can barely use my phone. I can't even set an alarm. Please help! 😨 |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | n0pe84 | 21/08/18 10:04 | I am having the same issue as you both. I have used fastboot to completely factory reset the phone to try to fix the issue but it's still happening. I had originally installed the preview builds via OTA updates so I thought the issues were from them, but after wiping completely I can't think of a reason for the issues to still be present. I'm as frustrated as everyone else. It's not good when you can't rely on your phone. Sometimes the only reason I know I've missed a call is the phone starts acting really laggy and the fingerprint scanner isn't working. I reboot and it shows I have a missed call. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Jacob Bagwell | 22/08/18 13:49 | My pixel keeps freezing whenever I answer a call or if it has trouble connecting to the network while making a call. I also just had to reboot to get it to play my voicemail. All of this started after I updated to Pie two days ago. The only fix is to boot into safe mode and restart the phone. PLEASE fix this problem!!! |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Leo Ni | 22/08/18 19:41 | it occasionally happened to my phone, mostly at when I try to resume an app from system background. |
| Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Audrey Liddy | 26/08/18 10:20 | I am having the same issues. I've spoken to Google support three separate times, and while they've finally acknowledged that it's a pie issue, there is nothing to be done until the next update. When I do a factory restore, things will work for a few minutes, and then I can't hear phone calls, or the phone app freezes. I've removed all third party apps and still have the same issues. You Tube continually freezes, the headphone jack stops working, the media volume decreases itself to zero, and the phone continues to freeze. This is very frustrating, as it seems there is nothing to be done, and my phone is fairly useless. I can still browse the internet, and text, but those are the only things that are working. |
| Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Kobi Reiter | 26/08/18 10:40 | I'm encountering the same issue. Phone will freeze on an incoming phone call and when trying to use Hangouts. Yesterday it spontaneously restarted when taking a photo. I tried factory resetting it, but there same thing is still happening. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Ryan Gubicza | 29/08/18 19:33 | Audrey, What you & the others here say accurately describe the issues im experiencing. Particularly with the phone app. safe mode works most of the time with the phone app. I saw some improvements with removing snapchat but eventually went back to phone app issues. I tried removing other apps that use the mic too like soundhound & facebook messenger. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Audrey Liddy | 30/08/18 07:28 | Have you all contacted customer support? I did, but did not get a satisfactory resolution. If you have not contacted them, you should. Google needs to acknowledge that this is an issue. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Manuel Morgan | 30/08/18 07:43 | I have another thread reporting the same issue, there are issues logged in googles issue tracker, i've gone through support in both phone and email conversations and been "escalated" several times. Google's handling of this update has been garbage simply put. They've bricked a ton of phones and suggest we go pay another 50% of the phone cost to have it resolved. This is unacceptable. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Audrey Liddy | 30/08/18 08:07 | I think we need to start a class action lawsuit. It is ridiculous that we cannot use our phones because of an update that we cannot uninstall. Does anyone know anything about doing this? |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Ryan Gubicza | 30/08/18 10:34 | i mean. among all the bugs to complain about during an update. The PHONE & the microphone & the voicemail. I would of thought this would of been #1 on the list when pushing out a new OS for testing. This is why large companies dont jump the gun to update their equipment behind the scenes. Its nice to get the updates 1st as a pixel owner but the samsung users i have spoke with in person do not have this issue. I wanted to wait for a pixel 3 but may just end up jumping on the next samsung deal that comes by. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Wifi-Guy | 30/08/18 11:04 | I have the same problem. My phone is so unstable and unreliable now. As an engineer for a WiFi tech company, I depend on this phone every day. Since updating, my phone app quits while in the middle of a call, home screen disappears, when calls come in and are answered you can hear anything. The UI is completely unresponsive to touch (without screen protector). I try to quit an app, move to next song, pause Google Fit (which I love as an app) and none respond to touch. I have had to hard reset 5 times in 2 days just to quit apps. I am now in the middle of factory resetting. |
| Re: Pie System Update- Pixel Freezing | Techno Bill | 30/08/18 12:39 | @Audrey: You can revert back to a previous release, however, a few things are required. One is some skill at following instructions on how to install a factory image on a device. The other is the foresite prior to installing a major OS update to set a particular Developer Options parameter called OEM Unlocking that allows the unlocking of the bootloader in order to install a factory image. This parameter is set in the OS, so if a device is in a boot loop and will either not boot into the OS or Recovery Mode (where a rescue OTA can be applied), then there is not much that can be done. These particular requirements have been in place since the days of the Nexus 6 and 9. Cheers Bill |
