Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 10:53 AM
I've spent hours (after receiving my Nexus 5 in the mail) chatting with online customer service reps, even visited a Sprint store and got a micro SIM card, more online support, and I am still not able to activate my phone with Sprint.
Service reps have no idea what they are talking about - asking me to remove the battery and read codes (battery is non-removable)...it's getting to a point where I'm questioning my new phone and my service provider...still not sure who to blame more...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Paul 11/4/13 11:42 AM
I'm sorry to hear that! I wish I had some advice to share with you.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 12:43 PM
Update:
guys at the Sprint store, Sprint Online support, and Sprint phone Tech Support, as well as Google Hardware Support were not able to help me out...device is going back :(
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/4/13 12:46 PM
Does the white box (bottom side) not have all the codes including MEID/HEX numbers that would help u?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Dennis Jarjosa 11/4/13 12:48 PM
Ditto.  Heading to a store now.  Doubt they would be able to do anymore than the rep I chatted with could.  Gave my IMEI and MEID.  Even had me turn on the phone so they could pull the info off their network.  Device was still showing up as my old phone.  Pretty irritated at the moment.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 12:54 PM
Emilio, only IMEI code is provided - HEX and DEC are not...Sprint reps told me they can usually use IMEI but the one that came with my phone checks out as "invalid" when entered into their system

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/4/13 12:59 PM
the problem is that the Nexus phones ordered from Google Play don't come with the needed Sprint SIM card, so you will need to get one...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 1:02 PM
Emilio, I got a SIM card from Sprint store - guys at the store were not able to activate the phone either...phone has a SIM card now, but IMEI number still comes back as invalid - either Sprint is very unprepared for the relase of this new phone, or people at LG fed up really bad...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Dennis Jarjosa 11/4/13 1:02 PM
I'm currently on Sprint and still having this issue. Don't think it's SIM related.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/4/13 1:06 PM
oh no, this sucks, I'm also a Sprint customer my Nexus is coming tomorrow...grrr
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/4/13 1:19 PM
I wonder if it will be added on friday since that's their N5 launch
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Jeff Harrell 11/4/13 1:21 PM
Same here! I've been excited since I ordered Thursday, but now I'm nervous! And my HTC One is about to sell on eBay!
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? mobed 11/4/13 1:22 PM
Not too surprising you can't find anyone at Sprint who knows how to activate a Nexus 5. At this point in time, Sprint is only taking pre-orders for the N5. Has anyone even received one yet from Sprint?

I recall reading info from Google product support that to activate the N5 on Sprint you need to omit the last digit from the IMEI. Also, I really doubt the SIM card you'd get from Sprint is useful for anything other than international roaming at exorbitant rates. Need to make a 12 minute phone call while in Mexico? That'll be $27.29 please.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/4/13 1:28 PM
It was confirmed by Sprint Worldwide and other sources the SIM card is required for ANY network access, not just international or LTE unfortunately =/
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 1:31 PM
When you omit the last digit from IMEI (which is really there just for verification - google Luhn formula), you get MEID number...they're really the same thing...regardless, neither is recognized by Sprint
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? mobed 11/4/13 1:41 PM
If no one at Sprint is able to activate a Nexus 5 at the moment, I would take information from Sprint Worldwide regarding the necessity of a SIM card with a grain of salt.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? thepowerofdonuts 11/4/13 1:56 PM
Who would we contact about this? It seems like 16GB versions are activating just fine (which makes sense, since that is the only version Sprint is offering for preorder), but the 32GB MEID's have not been loaded into their database. Is someone aware of this?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Dennis Jarjosa 11/4/13 1:59 PM
Just got back from the retail store.  They didn't have any luck either.  They did however up a 'Click it ticket'.  Supposedly it'll take them up to 48hrs to transfer my acct to the new phone.  We'll see what happens.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 2:27 PM
If anyone at Google can see this, please help! From doing some digging, it seems that it's primarily the 32gb models that are not in Sprint's database and won't activate. If you could escalate this up the chain, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 2:32 PM
OR - anyone with the same problem - try to contact Google hardware support at (855) 836-3987, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week...
When I called, they told me I was the first to call them with this problem...if they know there are more people with same issue, maybe they'll pay more attention to it...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 2:33 PM
Funny that they would say you're the first, as I also called with the same problem about 3 hours ago.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Philip Betts 11/4/13 2:41 PM
I've called numerous sprint retailers and their 1-888 number.... The Sprint representatives I spoke with have told me that I will need to acquire a Sprint UICC (LTE SIM).  These are unavailable until Friday, at retail stores.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 2:44 PM
These are the same exact SIM that is in, for example, the HTC One. The problem right now is that the IMEI has to be in Sprint's system to activate it at all, regardless of having a SIM.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 2:47 PM
Yeah,

Philip I have a SIM card - they gave it to me at a Sprint Store...but the card did not help - 32G phone cannot be activated on Sprint at this time...not sure if they plan on fixing this...I'm ready to change my service provider...this was just the last drop..
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? JackieTreehorn 11/4/13 2:59 PM
Seriously, how did you get them to give you a SIM card?  I've been around to a few locations, and in most of them, I was talked down to in the "You ordered a GSM phone idiot, we don't use SIMs." type way, and in the one that had a clue, the guy was very standoffish and informed me that he wouldn't even look for the SIM unless I agreed to the $50 charge that there would be for it because it came from "his store's stock."

Did they charge you, just give you one, ???
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Paul 11/4/13 2:59 PM
Hi again everybody. I've checked in with my colleagues who work with Sprint who passed this along:

Any Sprint store should be able to get your new Nexus 5 activated on Sprint's network. If you're not able to get to a Sprint store or have other questions, you can reach Sprint's customer care organization via *2 on a currently activated Sprint phone or 1-888-211-4727 from any other phone.

I see from the thread above that at least a couple of you haven't been successful in stores or with the 888 number and I'll pass that feedback along.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 3:00 PM
Thank you Paul
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? thepowerofdonuts 11/4/13 3:01 PM
Did you go to a corporate store? Or a "Sprint Store by '3rd party'"
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Charley Gray 11/4/13 3:05 PM
Paul -

I've seen some anecdotal evidence - from Reddit and XDA-Devs threads - that 32 GB versions are the source of the difficulty, while 16 GB versions activate properly on Sprint's network. I can verify that my local store - a Corporate store, not a store run by a 3rd party - is unable to activate my 32 GB version, bought directly from Google Play.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? thepowerofdonuts 11/4/13 3:11 PM
I only ask because from what I've read, corporate stores should give them out for free. A third party will have more limited stock and be out for themselves, so they would be more likely to want to charge you.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? JackieTreehorn 11/4/13 3:13 PM
I went to a corporate store, and they told me flat out they wouldn't even look to see if they had them if I didn't agree to the $50 charge for it.  No matter what it is, they "have" to charge $50 because it's part of their stock.  "Anything that comes across the desk is at least $50" was roughly the quote.

I've yet to find a corporate store that has them in stock, or will even look to see without pulling something like that.  I've tried three of them.

Are you sure they're supposed to give them out free, because while I thought that was the case, I've run into nothing but resistance and in one case, almost outright hostility.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Charley Gray 11/4/13 3:14 PM
Went to a corp store, asked for the exact SIM by name (technically, a UICC) and they said they don't have any.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? thepowerofdonuts 11/4/13 3:20 PM
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 3:37 PM
Even worse, Sprint is telling people to return the device to Google as "it is not able to be activated on the Sprint Network" because it doesn't have a Sprint logo on it. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 3:48 PM
Alton L.: I'm sorry. This is not a Sprint phone and cannot be activated on the Sprint account. at present ,
Sprint only offers Google Nexus 4g phone, it is not offering or selling Google
Nexus 5 phone.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 3:51 PM
Paul - the 16GB models activate just fine.

Sprint has not added the MEIDs for the 32GB models.

To add fuel to the fire - Sprint has not trained any of its store employees on providing SIMS for the Nexus 5.  I had to give them the specific SKU for them to even admit that they had it in stock (at first, they insisted they had to give me a Nexus 5 specific sim which was not in stock).  I finally got a SIM but unfortunately the MEID for my 32GB nexus 5 isn't valid on Sprint.

They opened a ticket and blew me off.  Nothing better than dropping 400 bucks and be told to take a hike.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Philip Betts 11/4/13 3:54 PM
Irev210 - Can you elaborate on the 16GB model activating "just fine"?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 3:55 PM
The MEID is recognized in Sprint's system. For 32GB models, the MEID is not recognized.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? MJ20 11/4/13 3:56 PM
I got the SIM for free plus free shipping from this link.less than 5 min it took
just ask for the Nexus 5 SIM card .

http://sprintworldwide.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch  under chat .name,phone number,security code,,,,,

I even gave his the SIM card SKU number

SKU = 760492013536

4G LTE will NOT work without a SIM.  Period.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? thepowerofdonuts 11/4/13 3:57 PM
This is probably because Sprint is only selling the 16GB version at this time.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 3:58 PM
Philip -

The Sprint system correctly recognizes the 16GB Nexus MEID as a device that can be activated on the Sprint network.  As such, you are able to activate the device on Sprint.

The 32GB Nexus - not so much.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 3:59 PM
Correct - that's the current theory.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Paul 11/4/13 4:08 PM
For those of you who have experienced a problem getting your phone activated in a Sprint store, would you mind telling me the store's location?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 4:08 PM
San Angelo, TX

Also had failed attempts online and via Sprint chat.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Philip Betts 11/4/13 4:12 PM
I called 3 stores in the Overland Park, KS area.  Several representatives didn't even know what phone I was talking about. I had to ask for management to get anywhere.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 4:12 PM
@Paul,

First I tried online - after they told me I have to go to a store to get a card, I did the fact they installed a SIM card into the phone, they were unsuccessful in activating the phone - note, phone recognizes Sprint network, but MEID number is not valid, and they have no ways of linking that specific device to my account.
After the store failed, i tried online again, one chat rep, then another, and then they refereed me to a phone tech assistant - they again talked to their supervisor...we together went through all possible permutations but at the end they said that the MEID number is just not valid, and that there is nothing they can do about it - DEC or HEX numbers are not displayed anywhere on the phone, or the package, and since the MEID conversion did not work, they were not able to activate my phone...so, in conclusion - no, not every store, or phone tech support can help you activate the phone.
And, just to make it clear - I have a 32 GB version - seems like all the people having this issue have a #@GB version as well.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 4:13 PM
Sprint Corporate Store
422 Boylston St
Boston, MA 02116
(617) 747-1300

But honestly, there was nothing they could do.

I can try online activate tool, try via chat, try via phone, try to escalate, try in store, nobody can activate at sprint - the MEID is just not valid.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? MJ20 11/4/13 4:17 PM
maybe this issue will be solved on the 8th of this month
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Airphoto 11/4/13 4:18 PM
I just called Sprint they told me that they cannot activate them till November 8. They did say if I go to a Sprint store they can override it and activate....trying that next
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 4:19 PM
Corey - that's incorrect.

If you have a 16GB version, it will activate just fine.

When November 8th rolls around, Sprint still won't launch a 32GB Nexus 5 (just the 16GB) - it's annoying that they keep blowing customers off.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? MJ20 11/4/13 4:25 PM
This is something new (SIM,google play),,,for Sprint maybe that's why they have all this issues

Sprint Store

It's a corporate store, as I mentioned before.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 4:33 PM
I talked to Google reps again and they told me they are receiving a lot of calls about this problem and that the situation has been escalated to a higher level - I'll give Sprint a day or two to fix this; after that I'll just get a plan with someone else...my contract with sprint has expired a while ago, and they keep finding new ways to upset me...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? C. Gray 11/4/13 5:04 PM
I'm curious - how many of you have SIM cards in the phone prior to activation? A sprint rep - on sprint community forums - claims that they'll activate either the 16 or 32 after the SIM is detected in the phone. I'd like to know if this is just deflection / buying more time or if it's actually accurate information.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 5:05 PM
I've had the SIM in each and every time before attempting to activate.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 5:07 PM
C.Gray

This has to do with the 32GB Nexus 5 not being added to the sprint system.  The system just doesn't recognize the device, so it can't be activated.  Once sprint adds the MEIDs to the system, the phone will work.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 5:12 PM
The question then becomes, how do we get Sprint to understand this? Might be very near impossible based on what I've seen so far.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 5:14 PM

At this point, we just need people who have issues to follow this post on the sprint forums.  If you are still having issues, you can msg the sprint employee helping.

https://community.sprint.com/baw/community/buzzaboutwireless/phones-and-devices/lg/nexus-5/blog/2013/10/31/sprint-product-ambassadors-nexus-5--gimme-some-of-that-kitkat

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? C. Gray 11/4/13 5:15 PM
Thanks. This is what I thought. It seems from this thread (https://community.sprint.com/baw/community/buzzaboutwireless/phones-and-devices/lg/nexus-5/blog/2013/10/31/sprint-product-ambassadors-nexus-5--gimme-some-of-that-kitkat) that Sprint and Google are aware and are working on it. I suspect someone in the devices division will be out of a job in the coming weeks.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? C. Gray 11/4/13 5:17 PM
Irev - I encourage everyone to follow the precise instructions that the product rep stated on the thread so they can't tell everyone that it isn't working due to the lack of the uicc, when we all know otherwise.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 5:18 PM
Now their link to join the community forums is down, so I can't register to send a message. How absolutely ridiculous.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 5:22 PM
Great point c. gray - I've edited my post - thanks for the suggestion.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? C. Gray 11/4/13 5:27 PM
Even though the CDMA bands don't need the UICC to work, meaning we should be able to provision for 3G only, it's best to give them no additional excuses to delay solving this. Hopefully that rep is correct in that the devices team is looking into the issue. If we're all lucky, it'll be as simple as plugging the imei into a database and viola!
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 5:30 PM
Well the IMEI doesn't work - it's the MEID which is the IMEI minus the last digit.

The phone won't activate (as far as I know) without a UICC SIM.  Once it is activated, you can go SIMLESS (again, as far as I know) and not receive LTE but 1xrtt/evdo continue to operate.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? C. Gray 11/4/13 5:35 PM
You're right you're right. I meant meid but couldn't think of it off of the top of my head.

And I could be mistaken, but I recall a member of s4gru saying he activated his 16 gig n5 without a UICC. it's either that or he activated and then removed the UICC and the phone still worked. All in all, this is almost certainly a device database problem, with clueless sprint employees compounding the problem.

Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Suvo Huq 11/4/13 5:48 PM
If you're using it on sprint you have to cutoff the last digit from the one I number on the back and that's your meid number you need to activate with.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? bhill1980 11/4/13 5:55 PM
I tried to activate my nexus 5 at the sprint store today as well, and it wouldn't work.  They told me that because they haven't launched the phone yet, it can't be activated in their system.  Said to come back Friday and try then, as that is when Sprint will be releasing them.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/4/13 5:58 PM
This seems to be the current sprint response, which is disappointing.

Which model do you have?  Did they provide a SIM?

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Jeff Harrell 11/4/13 5:59 PM
So is that it? Problem solved?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 5:59 PM
Problem only solved for those that have a 16GB model. As of this moment, those of us with a 32GB model are out of luck.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Andrew Granada 11/4/13 6:14 PM
this sounds terrible! i'm a sprint customer too and I was planning to order my nexus 5 in a few weeks
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? C. Gray 11/4/13 6:17 PM
If it isn't fixed by then, I'll be a T-Mobile customer.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 6:18 PM
I'm pretty close to ditching this very moment.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 7:34 PM
I've now received a response from Google Support in reference to a ticket I opened when the device wouldn't activate at first. Google is now saying that the 32GB model is not supported on Sprint right now and they have no idea if/when it will be. Told me I should exchange the device. Screw Sprint, I'm leaving for AT&T.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/4/13 7:45 PM
I think you'll be pretty pleased compared to Sprint, I think that leaving is going to be the go to  for most people when they can't activate their devices. Smooth move sprint, way to alienate your customers.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Ross Gerbasi 11/4/13 7:47 PM
Over here they have confirmed the 32gb version from the Google Play store is supported and they are working on it. If that matters at all to ya, I am debating leaving myself though, just ordered by UICC Card, it will be here Thursday, Ill make a call at the end of the week.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/4/13 7:49 PM
Galaxy 5 Nexus... haha
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Ross Gerbasi 11/4/13 7:52 PM
yeah :/ gessh looks like a slip though he uses both Galaxy and Google. Here's hope'n they get this figured out.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Charley Gray 11/4/13 7:53 PM
In the same thread, one csr states that only the 16 gig version is supported, while another says both. I'm getting a T-Mobile SIM tomorrow and comparing service in my area. I wasn't shopping for a new cell plan before, but I sure am now.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 8:56 PM
Everyone who had issues, try again. You may have to call or chat, but my 32GB is now activated on Sprint. Guess they got the IMEI into the system.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Airphoto 11/4/13 9:04 PM
How did you do it? Did you call?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Brandon Land 11/4/13 9:09 PM
Well, first I tried doing it online. It recognized the IMEI/MEID and took me to selecting a SIM card. At that point, it told me to contact them via chat. After informing the rep that the SIM card was indeed compatible and asking him to just give it a shot, he did, and I was good to go. LTE works like a charm as well.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/4/13 9:30 PM
This is from Sprint community forum:

Yes... I am on our device launch team for the Nexus 5 and I asked earlier today to make sure we are able to activate one since unlocked Google Play Store version only have IMEIs. The model we activated was a white 32GB model and based on feedback I have received the 32 GB black model is the one everyone is having a problem with. We are working on this and will have more information tomorrow.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Great to hear. I get my phone tomorrow and ordered a UICC through Sprint chat. I'll have that tomorrow as well. Awesome to hear people are getting their 32gb black N5's activated.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Eric Abens 11/5/13 6:53 AM
I was able to activate my 32GB Nexus 5 by doing a few things:
-Went to Best Buy and bought a sprint SIM card for $30
-Got a DEC# from sprint customer service
-Gave them the ICC# of the SIM card that i bought at Best Buy
-My phone worked shortly after
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? gstankovic 11/5/13 7:01 AM
Sprint has fixed some issues overnight, and I was now able to activate my phone.
Although Sprint system now recognizes MEID number provided with the phone, you will not be able to complete the activation on your own even if you already have a SIM card - you will have to contact support through either online chat or phone, give them all the info, and they will manually override and activate your phone...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/5/13 7:02 AM
Sprint corporate stores provide them for free (though I realize not all sprint stores have them or not all customers can easily access a corporate sprint store)

The DEC# is called the MEID, which is the IMEI minus the last digit
The MEID plus the IICID off the SIM allow you to activate.

Congrats, glad to hear another Nexus 5 user was able to get on sprint without issue.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/5/13 9:06 AM
I'm confused so hopefully you guys can clarify something for me. Do we still need a sim from a sprint cooperate store to activate it, or will it activate without one? Just not used to getting a sim card for sprint, their sims have always been imbedded in the phone since LTE was implemented. Thanks guys.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/5/13 9:08 AM
You can order a sim free of charge from telesales or you can go to a corporate sprint store and they will give you one at no charge/

You need a sim to activate - you cannot activate without a sim and they do not ship with a sim.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/5/13 9:12 AM
thanks for the clarification irev210. I didn't realize sprint now has stand alone sim cards. Ill be contacting sprint tonight to order one. Thanks so much.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Paul 11/5/13 9:19 AM
Hi folks,

As a few of you have noted, there was an issue yesterday that impacted some Sprint customers that tried to activate their 32GB Nexus 5's. Sprint should now be able to activate your phones either at your local Sprint store or over the phone.

Also several have noted, you should check with Sprint about a SIM card.

Could I use the Sim card from my iPhone 5?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/5/13 9:22 AM
Andrew - no the iPhone 5 SIM will not work, sorry.

What about from the Moto X?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? irev210 11/5/13 9:28 AM
No, that won't work either.  It's also a nano.

Best bet is to go to sprint and ask for SKU 760492013536
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? mobed 11/5/13 9:29 AM
iphone 5 and 5s and the moto x all use a nano SIM. Nexus 5 uses a micro SIM.

Would I be able to use the current SIM that is in my Sprint HTC ONE?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Antwan Woods 11/5/13 9:58 AM
It'll only work on a GSM carrier, so the only choices are AT&T or T-Mobile.

Sprint uses CDMA, so that's why it won't work.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? EmperorX 11/5/13 9:59 AM
^^^ Lol. Do some reading bud. The phone is 100% compatible with Sprint and CDMA MVNO carriers.

Not true, the Nexus 5 is compatible with Sprint.

Will a sprint store be able to give me a sim card without having the device in my possession? Ive heard on XDA that some stores are being a pain in the ass about giving them sim cards if they don't have the phone on them.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/5/13 10:23 AM
I'd skip the store and order one from worldwide chat, the overnight shipping isn't too bad $12.50 and the card itself is free.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? cswiii 11/5/13 10:26 AM
The guys at my local Sprint store yesterday seemed willing to give me a SIM and let me activate it at home, but since it was due to arrive, I just waited until I got it and took it back over there for them to handle it.  YMMV.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Preston3263 11/5/13 10:28 AM
I agree, I ordered one this morning which took about 5 min.  They also have free shipping if you can wait a few extra days.  Also, has anyone been able to just swap out the sim from the HTC one to the nexus 5?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Amir N 11/5/13 10:30 AM
I order one online yesterday and now am being told that my order won't ship for 2 weeks because they are out of stock. Getting real tired of your shit, Sprint.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/5/13 10:35 AM
Someone said in a thread on XDA that Best Buy may also carry some limited stock of Sprint SIMs, you might be able to try your luck there if you're order is delayed and it's out of stock at Sprint stores near you
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? JSet12 11/5/13 10:52 AM
What are we suppose to do when the local Sprint stores don't have any SIMs to give?

I'm in the DC area, and I can't find any stores that have SIM cards.  A couple store reps said they have gotten quite a few people calling and coming in asking for them, too.  No one sees to know when they will get them
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Andrew J. Williams 11/5/13 10:55 AM
JSet, I was told by the corporate repair store in Tysons that the store in Clarendon is VERY underutilized. Did you give them a shot? I ordered mine just to be safe. Again, many people have been having success saying they need a card for a S4 or HTC one and then showing up with their nexus.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? JSet12 11/5/13 11:20 AM
Andrew Williams, thanks for the reply.  Yeah I called Clarendon, as well.  They didn't even think I could use the device because I didn't buy it from Sprint.  I'm tired of misinformed store reps not even sure what I'm talking about.

I'm on hold now trying to get one ordered from World Wide Sprint...
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Andrew J. Williams 11/5/13 11:23 AM
It seems the best course of action is NOT saying Nexus. Ask for a S4 or HTC One compatible card, which is size 3FF. There's no way they're out of the cards for their two most popular handsets. They say they're out of "Nexus 5" cards because they don't know they actually have stacks of them in a drawer.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Amir N 11/5/13 11:24 AM
45 minutes later I was guaranteed that my sim will ship today and deliver tomorrow. I don't believe it, but we will see.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/5/13 11:30 AM
Because I have an employee discount i cant order from worldwide store which is dumb, and the rep for employee discount says that accessories doesn't exist.

So I called a local store and asked for a HTC sim so i didn't confuse the employees. They said they have tons of HTC one sim cards in stock, so ill go in with my phone tomorrow and hopefully they will give me one. God why does sprint have to make everything so complicated.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? JSet12 11/5/13 11:32 AM
Andrew, I will try that.  Thanks for the suggestion!

I just got one ordered from the World Wide Store, but it will take 3-5 business days.  They said I could pay $15 to have one on 1-2 days, but it may take the same time to arrive.  WTH Sprint?!?!

I'm going into a Sprint store when I get off work and ask for the a HTC sim.  Then when they have it in their hand, I will then pull out my Nexus 5.

Just a heads up, I did order a sim through the world wide chat (sprint offered to put a credit on my account that will compensate for shipping costs) last night. I got confirmation of my order but have received zero notification that the cards has shipped yet. So, YMMV.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/5/13 12:09 PM
jset, i think ill do the same as you. just ask for the sim for a different device and then pull out the phone.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/5/13 12:10 PM
@andrew J
I'm a little confused: since Sprint uses CDMA, as far as I know, they've never had phones that use SIM cards....are the S4 and HTC One phones you're talking about international phones? Why would they require a SIM card?

I just called one of the Sprint stores (before reading all this) and sure enough, I get some misinformed employees who have zero knowledge about the Nexus 5 and they won't even look up that 760 SKU for me.  Instead they keep trying to give me some corporate number so I just hung up.  The phone is coming to them in 3 days and they still don't know anything about it..
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? bhill1980 11/5/13 12:18 PM
Both the HTC One and the S4 (along with the iphone and moto x, among others) have sim cards.  The sim card is necessary for LTE.  I took the sim from a broken S4 and put it in my 32 GB white nexus 5.  I was then able to activate online via the chat with sprint customer service.  It only took about 10 minutes.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Albert Willis 11/5/13 12:22 PM
I walked in to my sprint store last night and the guys were very interested in the fact that I had a Nexus 5 already.  They told me that they had someone come in earlier in the day and they had to give him an HTC One SIM to activate.  They did the same for me however after activating my voice and sms worked but I had no data after updating profile and PRL several times.  The store guys assumed it was due to the SIM card not actually being for the phone.  I just hopped on chat on the Sprint site and the support agent did a remote push to my phone of some sort.  After a reboot I updated profile and PRL again and data worked.  Just leaving this here in case anyone else encounters this issue after activation.  I have a 32gb white version for reference.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? JSet12 11/5/13 12:39 PM
Albert, good to know, thanks for sharing your experience.  I will share my experience, too, after I try to get a HTC SIM fr my Nexus 5.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/5/13 1:45 PM
I just called 6 stores saying I needed a Micro SIM card for an HTC ONE..not one had any available.  They all basically told me to contact corporate, so I just went online and ordered one from the International chat, it was easy.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? movsess 11/5/13 1:48 PM
Either way I made them open up Galaxy S4 box and give me sim. :). Just a Micro SIM won't work btw has to be for newer device and deff not iPhone. Forgot to mention store associate also has to remove the insurance in the system in order for the activation not to error out.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Kevin Day 11/5/13 4:47 PM
Four separate Sprint reps claimed that they couldn't activate my device until Friday, but I finally activated it anyway. I picked up a sim from my local sprint store for free. I tried activating online, but it complains that my meid is bad. I re-entered it without the last digit (which is just a check digit), and it accepted it. It then told me I had to click the chat icon to complete my activation.

When chatting with a sprint rep, it is important that you don't mention that your device is a nexus5. This seemed to send the 4 previous employees down the wrong path of the decision tree they are reading from, leading them to tell you they can't find that device in their system, and that they can't activate it until friday. Instead, just say you want to activate your "device", and give them your meid (minus the last digit), and sim card id, and you should be good to go.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? iansltx 11/5/13 6:46 PM
After talking with four people on the phone, my SIM is on the way to my apartment, thanks to Worldwide Care. The corp store I went to didn't have any, other than the ones that come with devices (iPhone, One, S4, etc.). The first Sprint rep I talked to on the phone said he wouldn't have an issue activating the phone (I gave him the MEID; I have a 32GB black model), but that I would need the SIM. The rest of the time I spent tracking down that SIM.

I'd say "well I can use my T-Mobile SIM while I wait" but that's borked too; data will connect but sandboxes me to my T-Mobile. Then again, I have an old data card plan (5GB for $40). That should be resolved tomorrow.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? TheoJK 11/5/13 6:57 PM
As someone who is about to go through this and isn't with Sprint currently, what plans are we (you) able to sign up for?   Are the "No Contract" plans available for these phones?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? EmperorX 11/5/13 7:03 PM
I tried.... They ONLY awful prepaid plans on a handful of phones (that are absolutely TERRIBLE). So, you and I are stuck paying subsidized plan prices for unsubsidized phones.

I have contemplated using my upgrade to buy an iPhone to sell and recoup my nexus costs. Though... Saving the upgrade is probably a better plan for someone like myself who loves new tech.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? EmperorX 11/5/13 7:03 PM
Awful = offer. Lol
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? TheoJK 11/5/13 7:54 PM
Damn, most of the reason I bought this phone was because I was hoping I could get the 35 dollar unlimited data and text (with 250 minutes) and still have a great phone.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? EmperorX 11/5/13 8:05 PM
Yeah... I figured I could go prepaid as well. I mean, why not for the same service? Pretty frustrating.

But hey, please do try and report back with results. I may have only spoken with clueless reps.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/5/13 8:35 PM
well I finally got my Nexus 5 (32gb White) activated, but it was time consuming!
A really cool Sprint Tech guy posted on G+ that his store (very local to me) had some micro SIM cards,
so I immediately messaged him and told him I would be there.
At the store, he made some adjustments to my account (I was on an old plan/phone), then he popped in the sim card and entered all the info into the computer.
When he booted up the Nexus, it stayed stuck on activating the data connection (basically it wouldnt connect 2 LTE).
After several tries and no luck, he finally skipped that process and connected to the local WIFI. Within a few seconds,
it popped up a message saying Android needed to be updated and started downloading this big update that was about 125mb.
Once done, it rebooted, installed the update and restarted the phone. But then it was still getting suck on "activating data connection".  It just wouldn't connected to LTE still.
Finally he went into settings and clicked on Update Profile and Update PRL and rebooted and that was it...the phone was on LTE and working fine.
I was there for just over an hour but it was worth it.

Sprint has indeed fixed whatever issue was preventing the 32GB N5s from being accepted into their system, but if you run into problems where the phone won't connect to LTE;
1. Connect to a wifi and make sure the Android OS is up to date, if not update it before u do anything else.
2. go to settings/Carrier settings and Update PRL and Update profile

If you still have any issues connecting to a data network, make sure the settings in your account are updated and correct.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? pcfixitguy 11/6/13 6:42 AM
My Nexus 5 (16GB) arrived yesterday, without a SIM to my dismay.  After reading this thread, I visited two Sprint stores searching for a SIM card.  The first store told me they didn't have them in stock and I would need to go to the Corporate Store a few miles away.  At the Corporate Store, the first person I spoke to didn't know the difference between an SD card and a SIM card, no joke.  I finally spoke with a "technician" at the store and was told they didn't carry SIM cards for the Nexus 5.  I asked them for a SIM card for a GS4 or HTC One, but they wouldn't give it to me, since the SIM cards "were for specific phones"  I didn't feel like arguing, so I went home, started a chat session with the world support, and had the SIM card shipped to me overnight.  It should arrive today, keeping my fingers crossed.

Overall, this has been a very frustrating experience, and I've decided not to stay with Sprint once my contract runs out.  I've never had a good experience when I've needed to visit a Sprint store.  The staff at Sprint stores are either uninformed, arrogant, or both.   I have friends on other carriers that have no trouble getting SIM cards for their unlocked phones.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? nedjo67 11/6/13 8:38 AM
The only thing I'll say is that Sprint is not a SIM company that accepts unlocked phones until now.  All of those phones you mentioned come direct from factory with SIM cards.  The Nexus 5 is the first Sprint phone that you can buy from Google and activate.  Even Verizon opted to not accept these phones.  Also the phone doesn't even launch till Friday.  My local store called into corporate and was advised that they would be receiving SIMs in time for launch.  I get where you're coming from and the Sprint stores should be more knowledgable and helpful.  Trust me i've had my run in with idiots that can't even get a phone activated and I had a friend who left with a iphone 5 when he asked for a 5s.  I also went online to chat and got my SIM overnighted for $12.  They said it would arrive on Thursday, but it looks like it will arrive today.  At least now you have an unlocked phone and can easily let your contract run out.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? bcraven01 11/6/13 10:51 AM
I to have a Nexus 5 32Gb and now have it running on Sprint Network. After many false starts at two different Sprint stores and on line support I found a posting about international support.
I got on the Sprint International Chat and requested a sim card. The total time on chat was less than 5 minutes.
My sim card came in today. (took less than 24 hours to ship and arrive).  I promptly installed it in to my Nexus.
I then got on the Sprint website and started the provisioning process for my new Nexus 5.  The system took my IMEI, guess it was valid. and completed the process.  At the very last screen it prompted my to click the chat icon.
Noe, I am on with Sprint support.
After about 30 mins of IMEI requests I offered up my ICC ID from the sim card.
BAM! that did the trick and my Nexus 5 came to life and is now connected to the Sprint network.
Told the support rep to mark the case as the solution to the Nexus 5 32Gb problem.

Result: Nexus 5 32Gb now running on Sprint network and network icon displaying LTE

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Ezekiel Nwafor 11/6/13 10:59 AM
in case many of guys haven't heard or didn't know. the meid for the nexus 5 is IMEI number on the bottom of the box minus the last digit. when I was trying to activate my phone over the phone through sprint they asked for a 20 digit sim number that would normally be found behind the batter. because the 5 doesn't ship with said sim I had to order one through sprint customer service after that it should be clear sailing.

I found the solution at xda fourms:

Hi Michael, Emilio,

I am trying to find whether Google Nexus5 (16GB) phone will operate in Sprint network with their 2GB Tablet plan or not? My plan is to use this phone for just browsing and dont want to take the Sprint phone plan (and pay for voice/text).  Did you folks activate the phone with a phone plan & LTE for data (or) just LTE?

Thanks
Ksav
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/6/13 12:27 PM
i think you can only activate it with a phone plan. Sprint doesnt have lte sim cards for tablets, and they would never do that
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/6/13 12:31 PM
also have a question for those who are activated. When ever i make calls, it says i'm roaming? just wanted to see if this was a issues for others. it tells me i keep leaving the home network. anyone else have these issues?
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? jssunn 11/6/13 12:52 PM
FYI: To echo what many of you have already said... I was able to get my white 32g N5 to work. I took my phone to the Sprint store, asked for a HTC One sim. They said "hmmm, Ok... yes we have one". After telling them that I want to put it in my N5 they then informed me that it might not work in my phone. I then firmly assured them that it would. And yes, it did work. They had some trouble getting it connected to Sprint's network so they had to call tech support. After about 20 minutes of them poking around on the phone... it worked! :)

Oh, and  yesterday I called this exact store and asked if they had any sim cards that would work in the Nexus 5. They said no. But, I decided to personally give it a shot. They had them, they just didn't think it would work in the N5.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/6/13 1:51 PM
Hey Michael, I've made several phone calls and not once have I seen any type of roaming message. Have you updated your profile and the PRL? if not that might fix the issue. Also make sure you reboot the phon.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Michael Pithis 11/6/13 2:01 PM
ive updated several times and rebooted. it still says im roaming. it will not say im roaming if i turn of my data to make a call, like on 1x, but 3g and lte i will have issues

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Garret Ferreira 11/6/13 3:48 PM
If you have the Sim you don't, when you get to chat don't tell them what device you have. This seems to send them into the misinformation loop. Just say you want to activate a device and give the uicc and imei (minus the last digit)

Thanks for the quick response.  One more question, do you  have the 32 or 16 GB? I have the 32 so I want to make sure it's the same device.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/6/13 6:24 PM
Axanch, yes it should be the same card.  It should also say SIMGLW206R.  As long as it fits in ur N5 u should be fine.  I also have the 32GB N5 and mine says ICC ID on it too.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? MiceJR 11/6/13 9:02 PM
I had a similar Issue. However after much determination I found that I had to not just go to a Sprint Store but go to a Sprint Authorized repair facility for a SIM card. Sprint DOES recognize the Nexus 5 regardless of configuration but when entering the IMEI you have to LEAVE OFF the last digit. Then Sprint will recognize the phone in their system as an unlocked device. From there it is Gravy. I have a White 32GB Model. Runs like a dream.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? DCicak 11/7/13 11:52 AM
Received my 16GB model last night an just came back fr two Sprint stores. The first, Sprint's 'campus' store in Reston, VA had no clue. The employee claimed the phone should have been deliverd with a SIM. I explained that it was not as it's directly from the Google Play store and I basically just got a blank stare, suggesting I call the customer hotline.

My second attempt at another store was a little more succesul. I was asked to come back tomorrow (11/8) as they'll start offering the phone then and would have the SIMs avaialble. Basically I was told that my phone was 'too new' to yet run on the network. First World Problems I guess...

WOW. That is ALOT to read. From what I can gather from the last few pages: This is a very common issue affecting many people, no one knows the exact issue. Seems completely random and that many people are hoping tomorrow will bring new PRL's and/or push these issues into Sprint head-on so a resolution comes quickly as more people complain.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Emilio Yellow 11/8/13 3:20 AM
The main issue with the launch of this phone is that there's a lot of Sprint reps that have not been trained to deal with phones that aren't bought directly through Sprint (Google Play store). They're all used to phones that come with SIM cards so when we walk into stores with SIMless phones it confuses them immediately. But I bet once Sprint starts selling this phone a lot of these reps will learn and understand how it works. Come next year if another Nexus launches on Sprint, they will be more understanding and things will probably be much smoother.  For the people having issues with LTE, make sure you update Android immediately once you turn on the phone, this means skip the process when the phone tries to establish a mobile network data connection (Sprint's LTE) and immediately connect it to some WIFI.  Let is update Android (about 125mb update), reboot and then update the profile and PRL in settings. This will solve a lot of issues that people are having.  If you continue having connections issues, it could be something with your Sprint account or something with the phone. But now it's been confirmed that ALL the Nexus 5s (16GB, 32GB, Black and While) are working well on Sprint's network and there's shouldn't be any issues using the phone on Sprint.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? EmperorX 11/8/13 6:45 AM
This is simply incorrect.

The first thing I did with this phone was update on wifi. Check the forums on S4guru. Lack of LTE is a HUGE issue that is affecting what would seem like most users.

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? No ideas 11/8/13 12:06 PM
Yeah, I've done all the "fixes".  Doesn't work.  I can go to the dialer (*#*#4636#*#*) and force LTE but then you lose voice.  The phones can clearly connect to LTE but for some reason certain towers for whatever reason will not allow them to connect in some cases when CDMA is on.  It really seems to be dependent on location.  I will be driving to a different city tonight and look forward to testing it there.

I was able to get my 32GB Google Play-purchased version up on the Sprint network using the SIM from my Galaxy S4.  The problem is that when I'm on WiFi at the house, I don't have any cell signal. No calls.

I attempted to obtain a sim card at a corporate sprint store for my 32 GB Nexus 5.  They said it would be $75 plus a $36 activation fee.  This policy is ridiculous and I canceled all our lines with Sprint plus my corporate lines (after 10 years).  I am surprised Google has such a close relationship with such a terrible company.

Well that's unfortunate. I had no trouble asking for and receiving a SIM card. It was free of charge.

I just picked up my 5 from the sprint store having no issues.

I have just com from a Sprint store and they did not have one. The store has also called all the surrounding stores and they did not have them. Sprint is not very well informed. Apparently Sprint sonly selling the 16 gb which come with the sim card needed. The reps at the store had no clue about this or the issue. Everyone is very unprepared.I haven't found a way yet to call Google to see why they are not shipping the cards with the phones. Called customer service at Sprint and they said that hey will send me one which i should have in 3-5 days. I am definitely thinking about switching catties and going to AT&T. no problems with sim cards there.

you need to join/visit http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4989-lg-google-nexus-5-users-thread/page-77#entry236693

The issue with the phone isn't the SIM.that is easy to get. its the network it self.

Visit Sprint International Chat Support. Ask for new sim card. You shouldnt have to tell them anything else.
You will get one in 24 hours
I did that and it worked perfectly

Unfortunately Sprint is still unable to properly activate the Nexus 5. I purchased the phone from Google Play and received it on the 5th. I am not a Sprint customer, so I took it to a Sprint store to sign up as a customer and have my phone activated. Although I am now a customer, they were unable to issue a SIM for it. I've now spent two hours talking with various Sprint customer reps (via the 800 number), as well as chatting with the Sprint International folks. They are unable to issue me a SIM without either an MEID number (which the Google Play phone does not have) or an existing Sprint phone number, which I do not have. Terribly frustrating. I had to explain to three different Sprint reps that the phone does not have an MEID number and that the back is not removable.

I'm at the end of my rope. I do want to use Sprint, as their coverage is better than T-Mobile's in my area, and I want the 32GB device, which isn't available through Sprint. Argh!

The MEID is the IMEI except for the last digit.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Dennis Gerrity 11/11/13 2:20 PM
Aseda,

This is what I've read, but the Sprint rep tried entering the first 14 digits of the IMEA as the MEID, with no luck.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? bcraven01 11/11/13 2:22 PM
went through the same process
the only id that will work is the sim card id the ICC id

Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Aseda Aboagye 11/11/13 2:22 PM
It's also there if you go to Settings > About Phone > Status.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Dennis Gerrity 11/11/13 2:30 PM
Right, unfortunately they won't give me a SIM without first registering the phone, and they can't register the phone without an MEID. And the first 14 digits of the IMEI don't work. They're killin' me, Smalls.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Dennis Gerrity 11/11/13 2:31 PM
Aseda,

In the Status screen I can see the IMEI (which is also printed on the back of the phone). There is no MEID because there is no SIM.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Aseda Aboagye 11/11/13 2:38 PM
I thought you wouldn't see an ICC ID because there's no SIM. I guess there's no MEID because it's not activated with Sprint yet. I don't know why it's not working. Sprint should have all of the MEIDs from Google now. That was the issue when phones arrived last week.

I just got sprint to activate my 32GB Nexus 5. They were able to by giving me a sim card out of a return phone, and then the IMEI number works in their system if you drop the last digit.  Simple as all that!  Hope this helps.

I have 3g service with my 32gb N5, after installing a SIM card, but I still can't get LTE service. Im returning the phone tomorrow. :(
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? Aseda Aboagye 11/17/13 12:09 PM
Yeah, the LTE issue has to do with the fact that Sprint needs to finish their tower upgrades. The tl;dr is that it's a tower issue. Sprint has to upgrade the 3G towers in order to make LTE "work" with these new tri-band devices. And yes, it's not only limited to the Nexus 5, but all tri-band devices like the LG G2. This post explains it quite well. As for an ETA, I don't really know. It could be days, weeks, months.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? rachel colyer 12/4/13 8:22 AM
I'm very sorry to hear that. Luckily, I was able to connect my Nexus 5 to the sprint network. Here's what I did if it helps:
After recieving the phone (ahead of schedule, by seven days, maybe because I paid for expedited shipping?), I called customer service and asked them how I could acquire a micro sim card UICC LTE ready for the phone. After a few questions, short wait, and confirmation with her supervisor, she said I should go to the closest corporate store to get the SIM card. She gave me the two locations and the google hardware number to be safe.

I went to the corporate store where they had one more SIM card (it may be worth calling ahead to confirm). The store manager inserted the card, input some data, and because of an error message (he said was caused by my use of google voice) he called into a service line. He worked the service person to input data and create the proper setttings. This maybe the important thing-have them do it for you.

I was in and out with a working Nexus 5 in an hour. Luckily everyone I spoke with seemed very knowledgeable about the SIM card and process-the man I worked with in store had the Nexus 4 and now has the HTC One which also uses a SIM Card.

I hope this helps, good luck folks!

I have activated my 32g nexus yesterday. But it wasn’t after long argument with sprint reps at the store. They didn't even know that the unlocked  n5 ordered from Google could be activated through Sprint. Basically got a Sim (same as s4 or HTC one). Put it myself and called tech support while in the store. They activated it. I basically did the job those reps where supposed to do.
Re: Has anyone successfully activated Nexus 5 on Sprint? MJ20 12/4/13 3:51 PM
I activated my Nexus 5(16GB) I bought from Google store in less than 5 min on line.there is no need to go to the store to activate/switch phones.
SIM I ordered it from sprintworldwide chat .

Totally right!
Use worldwidw chat. Shipping 3-5 days is free and next day $13. It took about 4 minutes. No explaining. No arguing.  Just awesome service.
