Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. christopher small 11/6/13 2:32 PM
Hey guys, i have a problem.
I just updated my samsung galaxy GT-I9300 to Android 4.3 and my device is heating up way to fast and battery drainage is just pathetic, when i go to task manager to clear applications after a restart of my device it has opened 30 plus apps running in the background, "ANDROID SYS/OS" is chewing up the most battery compared to my screen in battery graph.
Is there any way to fix this?
I have done a hard reset, factory reset, taken out my memory card, re-installed 4.3

Someone please help me fix it

this is a screen shot of my new device

Hi Paul, I can't seem to open the link you have provided me with :(

I'm looking for a fix to this as well. Phone was at 100% before I went to bed and 8 hours later It was down to 18%. Normally after going to bed it'd be down to 70-75% at most. Built in battery app shows Android OS at 44% but using GSam Battery Manager there seems to be a battery usage figure of around 96% that fluctuates between the screen, phone radio and App usage. Puzzled as to why it's doing this although I saw a thread saying that it sorted itself after a few days
Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. christopher small 11/8/13 1:47 AM
Kane, It's good to know some one else is facing the problem as I am.
As weird as this is going to sound, We have updated our phones to a leak of android 4.3. It has alot of bugs thus the super heating up and drainage of battery. There is no fix for this unless and until Samsung released the official Android 4.3.

I have further bad news to tell you. You will not be able to downgrade to Android 4.1.2, as downgrading changes your IMEI number and network will not be able to catch, this is a security thing done in 4.3 update, i know this because i have tried it.

Your only option is this;
1.) You can stick with the Android 4.3 that you currently have on your s3 right now and have your battery and phone burn up and may possibly suffer system damage

2.) You can root your phone and install cyanogenmod 10.2, I have rooted my device and using this, guess what, 2% battery drop in one hour with maximum use. Device is way faster then the Android OS itself. And the phone does not heat up or have any issues like what you're having with Android 4.3.

If you require further clarifications please email me

I would appreciate your feed back to see what you are going to do next mate. :)

You can downgrade to I9300XXEMG4 (It's the final JB 4.1.2 build for the S3)

Samsung implemented the EFS2 file structure on THIS build of 4.1.2, not on the 4.3 update, so the modified EFS folder (the one which is keeping you from downgrading to anything else than 4.3) WILL work on this release

Next time, backup the EFS folder as soon as you get a new device out of the box (provided it is a Samsung)

Buy me a beer :) (Y)

Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. christopher small 11/10/13 9:26 PM
I downgraded and it couldn't detect network, so i had to root and install CyanogenMod 10.2. :(

I installed Android 4.3 by downloading the released version to Ireland Vodafone but it kept draining and making my phone hot thus i had to downgrade, when it didn't work i had to root.

Do you have any idea if 4.3 has been released yet? without any bugs? As i live in Fiji, Vodafone Fiji has no idea about this.
Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. Luis Millán 11/10/13 9:34 PM
As i said, you should downgrade SPECIFICALLY to this 4.1.2 release by Samsung (I9300XXEMG4)... you can usually get it at samfirmware.com

The version released for Ireland was a GERMAN test firmware, it was a leak, and everyone just ran and got it (myself included), bad move by samfirmware... but AFAIK, a couple of releases have come out for other countries... the problem is that they're all network branded releases... there hasn't been a single UNBRANDED release so far... i expect an unbranded release by the end of the week at most, otherwise, i'm selling the GS3 and getting a Nexus 5

I strongly recommend you to download the official 4.1.2 (build XXEMG4) by samsung and flash it to your phone, i can confirm it WILL work on the new EFS2 folder structure v4.3 modified, and then, wait for an UNBRANDED 4.3 update to roll out sometime later in the week and apply it, by then, it should be free of bugs

Best Wishes

L.

hi, updated to 4.3, ran in to battery drain and not registered on network issues, then downgraded to XXEMG4, now i am still getting not registered on network issues. Mobile data is fine, IMEI is fine, just cant register on network.
thanks.

Strange.

Vodafone german build 4.3 on a BTU i9300 then downgraded to MG4 OXA iirc. Stuck in bootloop resolved with factory reset & cache wipe. No problems with imei or signal on EE

Which version of the I9300XXEMG4 do you choose , as there is not Ireland option apart from for meteor.
Does it make a difference ?

thanks

Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. asoebye 11/17/13 3:43 PM
I HAVE official 4.1.2 (XXEMG4) and I am experiencing the same problem with the battery heating up and drains itself from 100% to zero in less than a day without even beeing used (no calls, no surfing etc., just checking the battery ;-). This started a couple of days ago without me installing apps, updating or anything like that (well, some apps have probably been auto updated, but no new apps installed).

I tried to press and hold the center button and free RAM by closing programs, and it then ALWAYS closes around 22-23 programs each time. This are programs running in the background which also restarts themselves. Some times it seems to slow the batterydraining down a little and the battery cools down, but after a while it heats up again. I have not found any connections to what I do with the phone and this problem.

Is it a way to see what process I shuts down? Maybe I can find out which one causing the problem by shuting down one by one?

Bro...so after this downgrade..fone will catch networks?
Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. Luis Millán 11/19/13 11:47 PM
Yes it will... if it doesn't, try a full wipe of cache and data before flashing 4.1.2... sometimes the 4.3 components stay in the system folder when downgrading, and this creates problems... including the ones you guys have replied all along (unless you corrupted your efs folder beyond recovery somehow)

Since the current 4.3 builds don't have KNOX on them... and still have the 4.1.2 basebands... they are rootable by the usual means (CF Root)... if you manage to root the 4.3 build... install a ClockworkMod recovery and do the following

Enter recovery mode (Vol Up+Home+Power keys when the phone is OFF)

You'll get to the CWM main menu... go to the advanced menu... and then to mounts and storage

Format the /data, /cache, /system and /sdcard folders... this will basically leave the phone without a system to boot to...

Take out the battery... plug it back in and put the phone in Download Mode (Vol Down+Home+Power keys wih the phone OFF)

Flash an UNBRANDED XXEMG4 samsung firmware... i use the british ones because they're usually the most reliable and less bloated ones

Voilá, phone should register on networks and have a correct imei/serial indication... it is worth noting that i do not know if this will work if you went from 4.3 to the original 4.0.4 and then to this 4.1.2 EMG4 release... since 4.0.4 uses the EFSv1 system... it may have corrupted the EFSv2 you're carrying over from 4.3... so make sure you're downgrading from 4.3 to 4.1.2 EMG4 ONLY

As a warning... do this at your own risk... i did this to the letter and it worked flawlessly... and it has worked for countless other people... i will not hold responsability if you brick the device... as following these instructions means you know what you have to do without much explanation...

Best of luck guys... sorry for taking so long to answer

Hello Guys,

I had the same problem on my S3 after downgrading from 4.3 to 4.1.2 ELLA version. My IMEI number changed and not registered on the network. Luckily I have my efs folder backed up when it was good. So I have used the app called Galaxy_S Unlock which is free, restored my saved efs folder and restarted the phone. Bingo, IMEI number changed back to normal and phone stated working. Hope it will help someone who is having same problems. Good Luck.

I came across this.  Worth a try.  It works for me.

1. Turn off phone
2. Wait 5secs
3. Hold up volume button, home button, and power button until phone cuts on
4. Let go of power button
5. When Screen comes up let go of all buttons
6. Use volume button to go down to wipe cache, use power button to select
7. Then press select reboot system

I may try this but also, wont a factory reset revert everything back to the original 4.1.2 as well instead of downgrading in the manner you all are describing?

I didn't have the option to revert to 4.1.2 after I upgraded to 4.3. If you haven't, don't upgrade for now.

So if you factory reset the phone then it will not go back to 4.1 successfully?
Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. christopher small 2/26/14 6:39 PM
No it only cleans your device, that is, deletes all texts, contacts and whatknot, it will not take you back to 4.1.
Sorry mate :)
I hope this helps.

I updated my S3 to 4.3 via OTA. But Now i want to go back to 4.1.2

I have this 4.1.2 ROM - I9300XXEMH4_I9300ODDEMI2_I9300DDEMG2_HOME.tar.md5 downloaded from sammobile. I am from India and this is the Unbranded Indian rom.

If I downgrade will EFS create a problem with my IMEI? or it will work fine?
Re: Samsung s3 device heats up and battery drain after 4.3 Android update. Paul 4/10/14 10:37 AM
I recommend reaching out to Samsung's support team to let them know the issue you're experiencing and to request further assistance. Although Google produces Android's open source software, it's the device manufacturers who work in tandem with mobile service providers to adapt Android to each device. More information about contacting the major Android manufacturers, including Samsung, can be found here.
