| Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Matthew Witt | 26/10/15 15:57 | About 24 hours after receiving my new Nexus 5X and using imprint successfully, it seems the sensor has just completely stopped working. After restarting the device with no luck, I factory reset it. When going through the setup process for the phone, it would not respond at all when trying to add imprint as the unlock option. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Scott Peachey | 26/10/15 17:18 | Hi Matt, I personally don't have the device, but I want to escalate this issue to see if there is anything we can do. I will keep you posted. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Bigs73 | 27/10/15 04:42 | Hi Matt, I'm going to throw something out as we have not had many new decive issues... yet. Have you tried it in Safe Mode? Regards, Marc |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Ismael Cerda | 28/10/15 08:40 | Today my nexus 5x finger print scanner has also stopped working. I tried safe mode and I did a factory reset and still not working. The option to set up the finger print scanner under security settings isn't there anymore. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Matthew Witt | 28/10/15 15:13 | Hi Marc, I have tried it in Safe Mode and it does not work. Starting to become pretty convinced it's a hardware issue. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Matthew Witt | 28/10/15 15:15 | Just to add, I have tried clearing the phone cache, as well as factory resetting the phone twice with no luck. The option to set up Imprint is available, it just doesn't work when asking me to put my finger to the sensor. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Bigs73 | 29/10/15 05:51 | Hello Everyone, If you have tried a factory reset AND tried in Safe Mode and it doesn't work, then it's pretty much a given that it's hardware related. I would suggest you contact them HERE. There is a Contact Us link in the top right also. Regards, Marc |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Matthew Witt | 31/10/15 08:55 | Just to follow up, I contacted support and they do think it is a hardware issue as well. The main reason being because on the sign in screen the imprint logo was visible at the bottom of the screen, meaning it should be usable in that circumstance, yet still did nothing. The support was amazing from Google and they overnighted me a new phone, which has worked flawlessly so far. It was by far the most painless support experience I've ever had, so very impressed with Google right now. |

| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | kaykay4 | 14/11/15 16:12 | I just got a new Nexus 5x yesterday and set up my fingerprint to unlock the screen. It was working, and then it just stopped, and I was prompted to use my back-up pattern every time I tried to unlock it. I couldn't find any information online to help, and I was getting ready to do a factory reset, when I read something about not having to hit the power button before having the 5x scan my fingerprint to unlock the screen. I thought to myself, "How was that possible? I power off and shut down the Nexus when I'm finished using it." Light bulb moment for me. Unlocking the screen with my fingerprint stopped working when I changed the sleep time to 30 minutes from the factory set value. I was never letting it sleep. So, I set the sleep time to 30 seconds and played with the the fingerprint scanner, and sure enough when I scanned my fingerprint from the sleep screen (w/o hitting the power button), it unlocked the screen. Perhaps others who say the Nexus Imprint sensor stopped working use their 5x the same way I did. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Henriq Hellstrom | 10/01/16 21:05 | My Imprint stopped working After the 6.0.1 upgrade, so I find it difficult to är it being hardware related. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Henriq Hellstrom | 10/01/16 21:11 | Now working fine after a restart :) |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Paul Tombrello | 31/01/16 13:28 | Had this same problem, but seemed to solve it pretty easily. I literally spit-polished the Imprint reader. Worth a shot before turning it back in, or resetting everything. Best of luck, folks! |

| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Johan Winkel | 09/02/16 13:12 | I had the same issue. Fingerprint reader was not working and imprint option was not available in security menu. I'm not sure what did the trick, but after next steps it is working again :-) - set sleep back to 30 seconds - boot in safe mode - changed security > Screenlock to swipe - removed all certificates - boot again in safe mode finaly the option Nexus imprint is shown in security menu. Now I setup fingerprint and reboot in normal mode. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Aritra M1 | 15/02/16 19:54 | Mine same problem and the Nexus imprint option is not showing under security |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Bigs73 | 16/02/16 04:33 | Aritra, See one post above you and try that. Marc |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Tommy.R | 16/02/16 17:14 | Have a 6P with no Nexus Imprint available in the Security Menu. Did what Johan said to do, but no joy. I've factory reset a couple times after removing certificates. Safe mode and normal, but the option never shows up. Other apps that can use the sensor don't see it either. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Bigs73 | 17/02/16 04:35 | Hi Tommy, It's very possible you have a defective device. You can get a call from a Nexus Specialist if you wish and if it's supported in your country. You also have the option to return the device for a replacement at the place you purchased it. Regards, Marc |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Almog Avisror | 18/03/16 14:05 | It worked! But I just set time to 30sec and restarted. Try it |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Charan Royal | 19/04/16 08:13 | Maybe it's because some third party app. Use the imprint in "safe mode". If it works fine in that condition, then you can confirm that the problem is with some third party app. I was using "Switch off and lock" app, and that was causing issues. I did the following. 1.checked it in "safe mode"-----worked fine 2.Uninstalled which ever app has access to my lock screen. (go to Settings-->Security-->Device Administrators-->disable all of them.) Now, my imprint is working just fine. Good luck |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Angel331 | 23/04/16 07:25 | Had try everything I've read. Clearing system and app cache, reset screenlock repeatedly in regular and safe mode and nothing worked. Then used Johan Winkel steps and it got the Nexus imprint to show and working!! Great thanks Johan Winkel for your post. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | kmcmullin | 27/04/16 14:42 | So glad to see someone else had this issue! Was just chatting with Project Fi and they told me they had zero reports of this issue and it was the first they've seen it. I kept telling them I can see that other in Google's forum have had the same problem! Thanks again! |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Shastadad | 11/05/16 18:09 | Johan Winkel's method worked for me but in setting it up I surmised that the main problem that I had was over thinking that the "imprint option" could be used at all times, even after a hard boot What I have found is that the fingerprint reader only works to bring your Nexus 5X out of sleep mode which is really all I wanted it for. My problem with the Nexus 5 was that many times when I put the phone into my shirt pocket that action would start the dialer (the small blue phone icon) and the next thing I was calling the last person I dialed Hope this helps anyone that is expecting the fingerprint reader to be your complete security, it is just a short cut to bring the phone out of sleep mode, which is a great function, IMHO Nexus Help says that it can also be used to to authorize payments or unlock certain apps. but since I have not needed those functions yet I will not comment |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | beledi | 17/05/16 06:24 | My 6p no longer shows the fingerprint but has the fingerprint option in security. Worked fine until last upgrade. I also have Avast Security. |
| Re: Nexus Imprint sensor has stopped working | Peter Coyle | 25/05/16 12:03 | I have the same problem with my phone where Nexus Imprint does not appear in the Security menu. This happened to me once before and I fixed it by going to fastboot mode, then recovery mode and wiping the cache partition. That method did not work for me this time. Both times this issue occurred to me after I had gone for a run with the device. I think it might have had something to do with the fingerprint sensor being activated repeatedly during the run by hitting my arm. I also saw a Reddit user complain about this while using the Endomondo App (https://www.reddit.com/r/nexus5x/comments/3r41y8/5x_fingerprint_scanner_has_stopped_working/), I was using MapMyRun, another UnderArmour App when the Imprint stopped working both times. I have tried uninstalling the App but it did not make Nexus Imprint reappear. Hope someone can figure this out. |
