About 24 hours after receiving my new Nexus 5X and using imprint successfully, it seems the sensor has just completely stopped working. After restarting the device with no luck, I factory reset it. When going through the setup process for the phone, it would not respond at all when trying to add imprint as the unlock option.

Today my nexus 5x finger print scanner has also stopped working. I tried safe mode and I did a factory reset and still not working. The option to set up the finger print scanner under security settings isn't there anymore.

Just to add, I have tried clearing the phone cache, as well as factory resetting the phone twice with no luck. The option to set up Imprint is available, it just doesn't work when asking me to put my finger to the sensor.

Just to follow up, I contacted support and they do think it is a hardware issue as well. The main reason being because on the sign in screen the imprint logo was visible at the bottom of the screen, meaning it should be usable in that circumstance, yet still did nothing. The support was amazing from Google and they overnighted me a new phone, which has worked flawlessly so far. It was by far the most painless support experience I've ever had, so very impressed with Google right now.

I just got a new Nexus 5x yesterday and set up my fingerprint to unlock the screen. It was working, and then it just stopped, and I was prompted to use my back-up pattern every time I tried to unlock it.

My Imprint stopped working After the 6.0.1 upgrade, so I find it difficult to är it being hardware related.

Now working fine after a restart :)

Had this same problem, but seemed to solve it pretty easily. I literally spit-polished the Imprint reader. Worth a shot before turning it back in, or resetting everything. Best of luck, folks!

I had the same issue. Fingerprint reader was not working and imprint option was not available in security menu. I'm not sure what did the trick, but after next steps it is working again :-)

Have a 6P with no Nexus Imprint available in the Security Menu. Did what Johan said to do, but no joy. I've factory reset a couple times after removing certificates. Safe mode and normal, but the option never shows up. Other apps that can use the sensor don't see it either.

Had try everything I've read. Clearing system and app cache, reset screenlock repeatedly in regular and safe mode and nothing worked. Then used Johan Winkel steps and it got the Nexus imprint to show and working!! Great thanks Johan Winkel for your post.

So glad to see someone else had this issue! Was just chatting with Project Fi and they told me they had zero reports of this issue and it was the first they've seen it. I kept telling them I can see that other in Google's forum have had the same problem! Thanks again!

My 6p no longer shows the fingerprint but has the fingerprint option in security. Worked fine until last upgrade. I also have Avast Security.

I have the same problem with my phone where Nexus Imprint does not appear in the Security menu.  This happened to me once before and I fixed it by going to fastboot mode, then recovery mode and wiping the cache partition.  That method did not work for me this time.
