|Change weather location in google news.||Wandering Bruce||1/12/13 9:26 AM|
I read google news daily. Lately it started showing the weather, which is kind of nice, except it shows the weather for Phoenix but I'm in Las Vegas. I can't find any setting to change this. HELP!

Thanks for reporting this. We are looking into it.

Mine's even worse. I'm in Denver but it is showing weather for Haddon Heights, New Jersey. What the heck?

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||airio||1/24/13 8:59 AM|
I am in Washington, DC and getting weather in Fort Worth, TX. It would be nice if there was an option to choose your weather location.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||jerrydaniel||1/25/13 5:15 AM|
Same problem here. It's very annoying to see weather from another city.

it looks like 1 of the world's largest companies could figure out how to fix something this small
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||rhlancaster||1/25/13 12:19 PM|
Even more alarming is this. Two computers in this room. Logged onto Google Plus News on this one, wrong city shows up in weather. Other side of same room, wife is logged onto Google Plus News - hers shows correct city. This is just wrong.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Ben Yackley||1/28/13 2:02 PM|
Likewise. I'm in Albuquerque, NM, and it's showing weather for South Jordan, UT.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||paddyryan||1/29/13 3:34 PM|
And have you found a way for us to change it yet? Do tell.

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||geoffhazel||2/7/13 8:21 AM|
Fixed??? It looks like it's fixed!! I woke up today and the weather is now Bellevue Weather. I added a "Bellevue weather" section to my news feed and it worked.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||PenaltyShots||2/7/13 8:48 AM|
Nope, mine now shows weather for Fernandina Beach, FL. OK, so I might WISH I was there :-) but unfortunately I'm still in snowy Denver.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||geoffhazel||2/7/13 1:20 PM|
Dang, mine is still broken too. I don't know what happened, it seemed like for a second there it was working but not now.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||paddyryan||2/9/13 10:10 PM|
mine was fixed for a few days too. Suddenly it is showing another town in the same state and nowhere does it let you either remove it altogether or change it to the correct city. Worst of all, Google have the worst customer support in history for their products. They suck.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||geoffhazel||2/15/13 9:41 AM|
last two days Feb 14-15 mine has been "kind of" working. Yesterday it showed Bellevue WA weather (where I live) and today I get Seattle, WA weather (just west of us, same weather). Why I get two different cities is puzzling but it's way better than San Ramon, CA weather.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||PenaltyShots||2/15/13 10:13 AM|
I don't know if this is just a fluke or if it is actually fixed for good, but mine is now showing the correct weather. Maybe Google got this sorted out.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Pat McDonnell||2/27/13 8:29 AM|
Same here. I'm in WA and I'm getting weather for a city in OR. Been like this for about a month.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||geoffhazel||2/27/13 8:48 AM|
My Seattle weather has been correct for 10 days in a row now. It appears that whatever "fix" they're doing sort of works, possibly depending on where you live or connect to the internet??
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||rhlancaster||2/27/13 8:51 AM|
mine has been fixed for about a week and a half to 2 weeks now too
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Chris_Andrews||2/27/13 9:55 PM|
Awesome :) I still don't get the weather on my laptop yet, maybe soon....

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Where's The Fun||7/24/13 12:49 PM|
I've been wondering about this for weeks. I was using my zip code as the location, but it showed the wrong city. After reading all these posts, I went into change location and used the actual City, State and now it is my local weather. Yay!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Keith Bierman||7/28/13 5:18 PM|
Odd, my profile correctly has me in our city, my "change location" setting is cheerfully employed for local news but ignored for weather. No matter what I set it to, I get "Littleton CO" (which is nearby, but not where I am) and choosing any of the deeper weather options picks different cities (some close, some out of state).
Really, is it so hard to let the user just assert where they want to be considered (since clearly using Wifi location guesses aren't working well)?
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||muqmuq||7/29/13 4:53 AM|
Hey where exactly is that on the screen? I've been looking around the weather section in the top right of the window, where it says "Weather for [location]" and shows weather icons for four days, but I can't seem to find any kind of location control. Am I looking in the wrong place?
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Thailer||9/8/13 10:47 PM|
Wrong location for weather. Do not dumb-up the programs to the point that the user has no settings control. I hate that so much!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Thailer||9/8/13 10:47 PM|
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Chris_Andrews||9/9/13 7:25 PM|
Two places you want to check - under the weather, above the local news, there should be a "change location" link.
After clicking on that and selecting your location - be sure to uncheck the "Automatically determine my geographic area" box.
Hope that helps,
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||James543||9/19/13 3:09 PM|
I was getting a nearby zip code despite having the correct zip code in that field. However, when I changed it and then changed it back, it starting giving me the correct forecast specifically for my zip code.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||James543||9/19/13 3:13 PM|
Update: nope, it's still the wrong zip code, but at least the weather there is closer to my own home.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||hotshot172||10/2/13 8:56 AM|
Fixed it, thanks!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||bob doyle 43||10/14/13 3:54 PM|
My weather section of my Google News page has disappeared. How can I get it back?
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||MattTheGweat||10/17/13 11:38 AM|
I'm having the same issue - my Google News weather box has disappeared, and there doesn't seem to be any option under "customize" to restore it. It's a really useful feature and it's frustrating that it's been removed with no trace or explanation. What gives?
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Rockstar Software Engineer||10/17/13 11:46 AM|
Hmm, just noticed that myself as well. I would just stick with Hourly Weather [your zip code], much more accurate anyways.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Caleb.Stewart||11/17/13 12:14 PM|
And I'm in Denver getting weather in DC!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Chris_Andrews||11/18/13 6:47 PM|
Yep - whatever happened, it's fixed now and should be showing up for everyone :)
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||bob doyle 43||11/18/13 7:41 PM|
Yes mine is back. Thanks.
I did write the Weather Channel to inform them they had been cut off from the Google news page. They responded with the name of a person who would look into the problem.
Never have I received anything from Google on any problem I write about until now, 2 days after it was fixed. Thanks Chris, but I hope you share the Google lack of customer service with higher ups. A company called Microsoft acted like customer service did not matter and now Google is doing the same. We, the customers will easily change to the next company that actually cares about its users when it comes along. Tell the higher ups who have lost touch to learn from the past to improve Google's future. I like Google just not their silence when problems arise.

Mines even worse! I am in Vientiane, Laos and Google News gives me weather stories from Sheboygan and Cheyenne! I am desperate to change this! HELP!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Chris_Andrews||12/11/13 6:26 AM|
Have you tried adjusting your location setting? You do that through the Change Location link next to your local section,
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Jock Meston||12/17/13 6:01 AM|
Well, I have news based on the Australia edition since that's where I'm from.
I also have several French sections because I'm living in Paris.
So naturally enough the weather google news feeds me is for "Weather for Redmond, WA, USA"

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Elizabeth Schmelz||1/7/14 7:03 AM|
I either get for the zip code town over in Gastonia NC or for some place in the UK. Come on not even the same continent
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||NEWEIN||1/8/14 9:01 AM|
Liz try the zip code for towns that are adjacent to you, you might get better results. It's not a fix but might be a work around
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Steve O Aus||1/8/14 11:50 AM|
And in my case in Australia, still no option to change anything.
Obviously not a priority for Google :-(
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||bob doyle 43||1/8/14 2:01 PM|
Go to the weather website you want to use and put in your location data and see if they can give you what you want. If they can show you the weather data for your chosen location then ask for their help with google. Mine local weather section completely disappeared when google made a change in my news page that I did not know about, so it was google's fault but I never got a response from google until several weeks later and 3 days after it was suddenly back on my google news page.
I also tired adding a news section for local news and weather but that never got me instant weather data on my news page as it only provided a link.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Steve O Aus||1/8/14 2:23 PM|
I had already tried setting my location in the 3 services listed under the weather that was showing, The Weather Channel, Weather Underground and Accuweather. While each of them could show me weather for my region, within their own websites, it did not affect what was displayed on the Google news page. I have not tried enlisting their help so far.
Low and behold, I open my Google News page this morning and the Weather is gone completely. Perhaps someone at Google is listening?
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Steve O Aus||1/8/14 2:29 PM|
Well well well,
After posting my last message I had a brainwave and went back to check my settings. Sure enough I had turned off the Weather (old-timers moment).
So I turned it back on and saved my settings. It is now showing Brisbane, the correct location.
I now have no idea what caused the change. Perhaps it was turning off the Weather and back on again although I find that a bit far fetched. It was certainly not the choosing of the correct location in any of the weather services as that had been done days ago.
So if anyone is having similar problems I'm afraid I can't say exactly what caused the change to the correct location.
Cheers from drizzly Brisbane (with more to come over the next 3 days)

This is not a new problem but an old one it seems to have been created by Google itself. Individual fixes are fine but this is systemic and caused by Google actions. Fix Google and report back to people who reports problems. Now that would be a first!
To all readers of this message, watch and see if any response comes from google other than "we are looking into it".
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Lex||1/11/14 2:02 AM|
Same here in Spain. No way to change settings at all. Weather showing for a location more than 2000km away.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Ginger Lange||1/13/14 12:22 PM|
It's been going on for a long time and not getting better. I'm in Nashville, TN, but get weather for Minooka, IL. How can a big company like Google not have the ability to fix this??? Or do you not care to?
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Rob Templin||2/24/14 9:39 AM|
This is still happening to me. Weather on Google News & Local Stories are set to my old Jersey town. I live in Florida now. I see no "Change Location" link
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Joana Filipa||2/28/14 4:36 PM|
Jesus, I'm from Portugal and this is showing weather for Washington DC!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Steve O Aus||2/28/14 4:51 PM|
And while it showed the correct location for me for a while (Brisbane, Australia) it is now back to incorrect (Victoria, Australia)
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Chris_Andrews||3/3/14 6:52 AM|
The link to change the location is next to the local news section - (see image). A change there affects both the local news feed and the weather reports.
At least that's what I get on my desktop here in the US, please let me know if you are getting something else (the sports section may or may not be there on yours),
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Yieldcurve23||3/3/14 11:35 AM|
I need to know how to change (and keep) my actual location.....not the one Google seems to have assigned to me!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Steve O Aus||3/3/14 11:44 AM|
Well that's interesting. It's the first time I have seen anyone point this out and it seems to be attached to the Show Sports Scores toggle which I don't get as an option.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Chris_Andrews||3/6/14 6:32 AM|
It is under the sports section on mine. Not part of the sports section.
The 'change' link appears just above the section with local results - but perhaps that is different in different countries? I'm not sure but I will do some research on it. I'll try to find a proxy in Australia to see if I can access it as you are seeing it,

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||K Bilowitz||4/2/14 8:46 PM|
I am in California and Google News is showing weather for Indianapolis, IN. I looked in Google Help and it "helpfully" said to click the Change Location link, which does not exist anywhere on my screen. This is extremely annoying!
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Ollie Pruitt||4/2/14 9:17 PM|
Same thing here, no "change location". Also, I don't even have my "local" news section any longer either (it's always the wrong city too.) I live in San Antonio but getting Austin's weather.

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Ann Abrams||4/4/14 10:22 AM|
i think there is a problem and google is picking up the first few letters of a wrong city that sync with your correct one.
for example, i live in west bloomfield michigan
i'm getting weston, florida

|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Mark.Thomas.7||7/1/14 1:02 AM|
So I'm just wondering how many messages have to be posted before you LISTEN and fix the stupid problem?
I live in Queensland, that's about a thousand kilometres away from what Google thinks is my location, and because of this stupid non-functionality (at a REALLY basic level) I, like all these others, cannot change my location. Even if I change it to the US version and get the change location box, it still doggedly stays on New South Wales weather even after it seems to finally recognise I'm in Brisbane...
(Win 7, Chrome)
Reading these forums and seeing the level with which you guys ignore really basic stuff is depressing.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Christopher Poore||7/19/14 12:26 PM|
"you guys ignore really basic stuff is depressing."
Are you referring to the people who keep asking the question because if you were to scroll down a tad bit more you would see the "Change Location" button. And has been for well over a year.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Steve O Aus||7/20/14 3:52 AM|
And probably what is more annoying is people who assume what they see is what is everyone sees.
For anyone in the US who wishes to comment further - please heed;
There is no "Change Location" option available to me, based in Australia, but whose location for Google Weather reporting - is incorrect.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Mark.Thomas.7||7/23/14 12:30 AM|
As Steve O points out, perhaps YOU, Christopher Poore, might consider that what you see is NOT what others see - I and others have rerad the solution, found it does NOT work and we have described the problem in detail - did YOU actually read what was posted?. Let me spell this out for you:
THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.
As I described above, even if I do what is required to get the Change Location option.. IT DOES NOT CHANGE THE WEATHER LOCATION.
Do YOU, Christopher, live in Brisbane, Australia, and use a Virgin Mobile connection? If not, then Gee Whillikers, maybe your experience isn't the sum of all information.
But thanks heaps for coming and offering your expertise, Christopher, at least it bumps the thread. Maybe eventually someone who knows what they are talking about, works on the Google Chrome programming team and has the reading comprehension required to actually LOOK at what people are saying, might just turn up. Why, I'd even be prepared to do a youtube video showing exactly what happens and how changing your location, from hereabouts, does NOT fix what is an unbelievably simple problem...

I'm in Sao Paulo and it shows Rio de Janeiro, and I can't find any settings for changing it.
Almost 2 years without solution... I'll start thinking a bit more when selecting a Google product, like a new Android version.
|Re: Change weather location in google news.||Clayton Jr||9/26/14 7:10 AM|
Hey, here's something interesting to help you debugging it Googlers.
If I add the parameter "geo=sao paulo" to the URL while I'm at the U.S. Edition of Google News, I get the weather for the right place!
But if I change to Brazil Edition, I get a page saying:
If Google really cared they would have solved this
problem several years ago. Instead the same problem has been found in several countries around planet Earth (:((
