|Music Beta web app has a few bugs on iOS 5||Mystik3eb||10/24/11 2:34 PM|
I just got an iPad 2 and put iOS 5 on it. Aside from not having an actual installed App, which is a real shame and hopefully will be fixed someday soon, the Music web app is behaving a bit undesirably right now.
First of all, it doesn't go right to the next song once it finishes playing the current song UNLESS Safari is the foreground-running app. If Safari is in the background, the current song will finish and play until the end, but will not go to a new song unless/until I switch back to Safari. From what I've read, this is new for iOS 5 since supposedly it still worked in iOS 4.
The other quirk: if I try to change to the "desktop version", the browser forwards to a "page not found". So as it stands right now, the only way I can have continuous music playing through Google Music is to have Safari always in focus, or switch back when the song is over...pretty annoying.

I'm having similar problems on my iPhone 4 running iOS 5. Songs don't change automatically, and it won't run in the background. It will run if I lock the phone while the web app is open, but if I press the home button or switch to a different app, it stops playing. Desktop version also does not work for me.

It seems to be an issue with new iOS5 SDK related to audio streaming. Many music apps have these issues that used to be fine in iOS4.

I have a similar problem but it's when the screen is off. If I leave the the music playing in the foreground and lock my screen, the song will finish and will not move to the next one. As soon as I unlock my screen it resumes.

I have the exact same problem.. I have to have safari in focus and the device unlocked for it to continue playing the next song after the current one has ended. I'm hoping they fix it soon as this web app is absolutely perfect for my needs.. Good to see I'm not the only one. Also, I'm wondering if this is maybe more of an apple issue than google?

I have the issue even when safari is in foreground and device doesn't go to lock :( I've tried other browsers - the same

Same issue on iPhone- I'm very upset. I guess it's one way to get me to buy an Android phone.

Another issue I have: (iOS 5.0.1, iPhone 4s)
If I run the web app directly in Safari, music will at least continue to play in the background after I switch to a different app (but as others have noted, will not proceed to the next song)
If I "Add to Home Screen", and then run the web app directly from the button on the home screen (which is nice since it gets rid of the Safari bars at the top and bottom), music will NOT continue to play in the background after switching apps. It stops playing immediately.

I really wish they would hurry up and fix the issue on iOS or just make a separate app because Safari constantly crashes after playing one track or just stops playing, also the scrolling sticks looking at albums, artists or even songs very laggy. One other thing I would like Google to do is make available gapless music play because I got a lot of Electronic music that are mixes that do not cut off by the end of the tracks, I know I can make it into a whole one track but I really feel that is unnecessary. Come on Google people with ipod Touch, iPad and iPhones want this also as much as you want us to buy Android but at this moment I don't want it.

I hate 'me too' posts, but I hope the more of us that speak up the sooner google and/or apple will do something.
This worked awesome in ios4. Like all the others here, after going to ios5 google music is useless (while I'm driving). For safety's sake (mine and the others on the road) I can not keep pushing play after every song

I've been complaining about this for months, since I got an iPad 1. I love google music, and there's no reason it shouldn't play on the iPad. I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but isn't it at all possible that because Apple is competing for cloud-service with Google that it is not too "concerned" whether or not google music crashes Safari? I wouldn't put it past them. Seriously though, please google, make a native app or find a solution p lease!!

me too iguana - would use it far more often if it, well, worked as it should.

I'm having different issues. On an iPhone 4 running 5.0.1, I can't shuffle my entire library using the mobile app. It's as if it will only load a certain number of songs (for me it goes from # - (somewhere in) D. I confirmed this by selecting E and then scrolling through and it cut off at J. If I try to use the desktop version of Google Music on my phone, it will recognize a song as selected and switch the play button to pause (normally indicating a song is playing) but it never plays; the song stays at 0:00.
Very frustrating since my only other option for streaming my library requires my computer at home to be on.

I have the same problem as others. The app seems to work fine on my iPhone with iOS 5.0.1 until the screen locks, after which the current song continues to play but will not advance to the next song until I unlock the screen. Apps like Pandora play fine with the screen locked so I suppose it's something to do with the implementation as an in-browser app rather than a standalone app. Apple announced iOS 5.1 today, so maybe there's a solution there, but I'm not holding my breath.

So what's the deal here. Will it ever be fixed?
|Re: Music Beta web app has a few bugs on iOS 5||devoidzer0||3/25/12 6:31 AM|
Same frustrating issues here (iOS 5 on "the new iPad", hork). Won't advance to the next song with Safari in the background, sluggish interface (sometimes locking up entirely), and creating a shortcut to Google Play makes it even worse (it will not play in the background at all). Luckily, I have an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S2, which just completely destroys my previous iPhone 3G), but it would be nice to have Google Play working at a useable level on the iPad (which it currently isn't).
There is an app called gMusic, however it doesn't resolve the issue of failing to move to the next song when in the background. C'mon, Google and/or Apple... I thought iOS 5 was supposed to be a step forward.

Same problem here. At least Google Music works now. I've been using GMusic but it's pretty unfinished and buggy, no big surprise from the iTunes App Store.

Well, I emailed Google via http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/request.py & via the Send Feedback link on Google Play Music. My main issue is that the web app won't play in the background. I've tried running it directly in Safari (and not from the Web Clip) and it still wouldn't play audio in the background. I know that it's the weekend. I just hope someone replies to me sometime this week. I really would like this fixed. It's a pretty awesome web app.

no i think its a google issue. I'm running this app on my android and i have to unlock it in order for the music to continue as well. this is really frustrating. also, I found that it is that continuous play no longer works when you lock it, it just takes a hell of a long time. I was walking and not really paying attention to it until I noticed that the next song only started about five minutes after the previous. don't know how long it'll take for them to fix this! hope it's soon though...
