Australia - Directed wrong way down one way street Dalboz 11/06/10 04:54
Sorry for posting this here as the "Report a Problem" is not shown in either Firefox or Safari for me (disabled for Australia?)

Example of Maps incorrectly sending users wrong way down York Street in South Melbourne, which is one way - and clearly marked so on the map.

First time I've seen this - probably a one off as I tried a few other one-way streets I know in Melbourne and they were OK.

I would recommend to report the issue directly to the map provider for AU because all data (not only the visible but also the "properties/caracteristics" for streets and directions) came always fro the provider). It is for Austarlia MapData sciences Pty:

Dalboz:

ehg did point you in the right direction for reporting the problem to the right place.   I was looking at the street you pointed to in GM's street view, it seems like the data is "off" one block for the start of the one-way section.

In the following link (at the intersection of Moray St and York St):

The street markings indicate you can make a right onto York from NB Moray, but the map shows that York St is one-way the opposite direction.   That section of York should be two-way.
Partially obscured by the traffic light (unless you advance the street view 2 frames forward), the section of York to the left of Moray is one-way to the west.   The map has this section of road, down to Clarke St, incorrectly identified as 2-way (which is what was causing the problematic directions).

The data from MapData seems to have the one-way properties starting and stopping at the wrong locations as you move along the street.

Thanks people for the links and explanation. I have reported this to MDS but to be honest I won't bother next time unless Google introduce their Report a Problem feature in Aus.

Or let them know by suing them when I have a crash...

@Dalboz,
You are of course free to sue whom ever.
But suing Google for any wrong direction will become a hard job I believe so.
Bottom of each gotten direction there is written their disclaimer which I copy here for you and other users:

These directions are for planning purposes only. You may find that construction projects, traffic, weather, or other events may cause conditions to differ from the map results, and you should plan your route accordingly. You must obey all signs or notices regarding your route.

I would not expect the justice in AU will condemn Google for any accident you have following their directions with the mentioned disclaimer.
cheers
