Latitude disruption update Jade W. 6/6/12 2:18 PM

We recently noticed a bug in Google Maps for Android 6.8 that affected Latitude. We are aware that service was disrupted for some users, and we apologize. We have been working on the situation and have implemented a fix.

To implement the fix, please upgrade to Google Maps for Android 6.8.1. Open the app and tap on the “Join Latitude” icon from the drop-down menu from the top toolbar to sign into Latitude.

Re: Latitude disruption update Sugarplum64 6/6/12 2:38 PM
This didnt' make a difference for me.  Even viewing latitude on the computer and my tablet all say the same thing as my phone.. unknown location.
Re: Latitude disruption update Phillip Dampier 6/6/12 2:47 PM
No difference here either. Still invisible to most other users, and since the app is already logging me in, there is no "join" button for me.
Re: Latitude disruption update longhornjoe 6/6/12 3:24 PM
This did work for me.  Thanks!
Re: Latitude disruption update Jade W. 6/6/12 3:28 PM
@Sugarplum64, @Phillip Dampier, try powering off and then powering on your phone.
Re: Latitude disruption update xandus 6/6/12 3:37 PM
Still doesn't work for me. Updated, powered the phone off and on about 6 times. Still having the same issues.
Re: Latitude disruption update remy83 6/6/12 3:46 PM
Same issue ( I have restarted my phone 3 times ) and I still have 8 persons missing from my list out of 10
Re: Latitude disruption update Sugarplum64 6/6/12 3:50 PM
Didn't work, I have reboot a few times, no change. not on my Droid, not on my xoom tablet and not on my computer. nothing is working. This is frustrating.
Re: Latitude disruption update scottebarnett 6/6/12 3:53 PM
This has worked for me on the Galaxy Nexus, although it took maybe 15 minutes for a Latitude friend who also updated Maps to 6.8.1 and power-cycled to show up again.  (That may just have been the length of time that it took for him to change his location such that Latitude picked up the change; I'm not sure.)  Thank you.
Re: Latitude disruption update hethmarie75 6/6/12 4:20 PM
Thid did not work for me even after rebooting several times.

Re: Latitude disruption update Jade W. 6/6/12 4:58 PM
If the fix above didn't work, and turning it on and off didn't work, it's possible that your friends may still need to update to Google Maps for Android 6.8.1.

Re: Latitude disruption update Sugarplum64 6/6/12 7:56 PM
I have powered off and on my phone at least 8 times today, it has made no difference. I have deleted and reinstalled maps and it has made no difference.
Re: Latitude disruption update BadMaps 6/6/12 8:06 PM
Didn't work for me. Running version 6.8.1 as requested. Go back to a stable version. This has been going on way too long.
Re: Latitude disruption update Boof88 6/6/12 9:20 PM
Didn't make a difference for me either, widget broken / doesn't work, if I go into the maps app it shows where I am, but just doesn't background update or work otherwise.

Galaxy Nexus.

Re: Latitude disruption update rgrhcs 6/7/12 5:39 AM
To get Latitude to work correctly again i had to uninstall Maps then reinstall the newest version and rejoin latitude, followed by resetting the phone. Hope this helps.
Re: Latitude disruption update spallared 6/7/12 5:52 AM
I did the upgrade yersterday and re-joined latitude but for my friends i'm still in a "Unknown location" ... (and my friends too).

Re: Latitude disruption update Rob_AAA 6/7/12 12:23 PM
As mentioned on other thread I am also experiencing similar behavior when trying to connect via the website. When I try to activate I click the "share location with family and friends " button and then the "accept" button it appears as though it sets but the moment that I click on "friends", "location history" or any of the other options it just takes me straight back to the "share location with friends" button.

Re: Latitude disruption update Daniel (Google Community Manager) 6/7/12 12:26 PM
A few more questions and steps for you:

The following steps have helped some users resolve the issue, make sure you've done the following before sending us a new report:
  • Update to Google Maps 6.8.1
  • Tap "Join Latitude"
  • Reboot your phone
  • Wait several minutes
Still not working? What are you seeing?

A. Are some or all friends missing?
B. Can your friends see you?
C. Is your location updated on the website?

Re: Latitude disruption update Silverblue 6/7/12 12:35 PM
After 6.8.0 update for Maps, I am experiencing constant problems with friends locations getting stale. Right after the update to 6.8.0, one of my friends (in Finland, using Samsung Galaxy S) started to 'jump' from current location to his home location (some 10 km away) - this happened every 15-20 minutes. Since last Sunday (3-Jun-12), his location became stale and has not updated since then. I have accepted another friend on Latitude (in Finland, using a Nokia N9 phone) yesterday. His locations were updating for 4-5 hours after which he also went stale.

Yesterday updated to 6.8.1 version of Maps, rebooted phone, re-joined latitude - no changes. my friends are either in stale locations, or stopped updating 24 hours ago;
I then again downgraded to factory, rebooted phone, upgraded again to 6.8.1, re-joined latitude - still no change.

I am using Samsung Galaxy S2, Android 4.0.3 OS
My carrier is Latvian Mobile Telephone, yesterday also was roaming in Sonera Finalnd
The email I am using for the forum is the same as for my Google account. You have my permission to look at my account.
Re: Latitude disruption update wpf7 6/7/12 12:39 PM
1.  No phone issue, problem is accessing Latitude web page on any browser.  For this account, I select the "Share Location" button, Choose Allow, it goes to Friends page.  Then when I choose either Location History or Dashboard, it reverts back to saying Location Sharing is Not Turned On and repeats the cycle.  This had worked for almost two years on this account without problems until 3 weeks ago.  Other Google accounts on the same computers and browsers work properly without issues.

2.  Yes.

3. Yes.

Re: Latitude disruption update bobo-the-drunk 6/7/12 12:45 PM
Daniel,

Still not working? What are you seeing?

A. Are some or all friends missing?
Some of my friends are listed and updating, most of my friends are listed but not updating. Several of my friends are listed with unknown locations. I have noticed that for friends listed but not updating and for those with unknown locations, if that friend checks in to a location their latitude location will show that location even 24 hours after they've left.
B. Can your friends see you?
At least one friend can, but others cannot. This seems to be linked to the check-in issue.

C. Is your location updated on the website?
Yes.

    A. Are some or all friends missing? Can't "join" so don't know (even though I've used Latitude for more than a year)

Re: Latitude disruption update TonyLoon 6/7/12 1:21 PM
Daniel, I posted a reply to your previous thread but I guess it has not been looked at. I do not think my issue is tied to Android specifically as I get a similar issue on the website.

When I click the "share location with family and friends" on the website followed by the "accept" button it appears to log me in and accept the setting but when I click on the "friends", "location history", check-ins" or "dashboard" buttons it takes me right back to the "share location with family and friends" button saying that location sharing is not turned on.

From Android (6.8.1) i select "join latitude" then "share location with family and friends", "agree & continue" and it just loops on "saving selection".

As per Daniel's request in the other thread I'm reposting my info and issue:

    1. Samsung Galaxy SII (GT-I9100M) running 2.3.3 with Bell in Canada
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
    4. Using Latitude on the phone it gets stuck on "Loading Friends".  Rebooting the phone or letting it "rest" for a long time (not sure how long but perhaps an hour or more) seems to unstick it, something probably times out, but after one view it gets stuck again. As mentioned, until about a month ago this all used to work just fine.  The web interface works fine.  No problems with location history, etc.

    1. Samsung Galaxt S3 running Android ICS on O2 UK. Maps version 6.8.1
    2. Yes
    3. Yes

Latitude on the phone gets stuck on 'Loading friends'. Installed latest version of Google Maps and rebooted made no difference. The only way i can get my friends list to work is by constantly hitting the refresh button in the app. Eventually the friends list will appear but i can only see 3 friends out of about 20. The rest are all showing as unknown.

The web interface appears to be working OK although again most people are unknown. This maybe down to them havig not updated their maps version yet.

Hoping this helps diagnose/fix the issue...

    1. What is the make/model, service carrier, OS version of your device (if you haven't already provided it)? Samsung Galaxy Nexus LTE, Verizon, Android 4.0.4 /// Motorola Xoom LTE, Verizon, Android 4.0.4

    2. Is the email account you're using for the forum the same as your latitude account? Only answer yes/no, do not post your email address. Yes /// No

    3. Do we have permission to look at your account's Location History for debugging purposes? (This is strictly confidential and used solely for troubleshooting) Yes /// Yes

I have installed 6.8.1 on both devices.  The Nexus LTE only shows 2 friends (out of many) and says I have already found all the friends "we'd suggest!"  The Xoom LTE shows the Nexus account but no other users.  The Nexus can not see the Xoom account.

My location updates well on my phone, and my partner can see my location, but I can't see his.  His location has updated exactly twice in the past 2+ days.  He has a Motorola Droid 3 under Verizon.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and updates multiple times, and still no help. :(

I've had another nagging issue where I launch latitude and view my location on a map, then when I push the right arrow to go to the next person, sometimes it'll zoom out and pan in the direction of my next friend, only to move back and show my position. To get to the next person, I have to go to the list and click on my next friend. After that, the arrow key works as usual.

    C. Is your location updated on the website? Yes

Re: Latitude disruption update osceolabevo 6/8/12 6:15 AM
Same problem here that others have mentioned.  None of my friends' locations are updating on my phone's Latitude.  All are showing as Location Unknown since the latest update (had worked flawlessly for the last year.)

    1. Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Verizon, Android 4.0.4
    2. Yes
    3. Yes

To add to the mystery, my wife's Verizon Motorola Droid X2, which is on Android 2.3, could continuously see my location before she got the update (and I had already updated my phone) and after she updated her Maps (at which points both of our Map apps were on the same version.)  But her location is still not updating on my phone.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the update on both phones, logged out/in of Latitude, but nothing has worked.
Re: Latitude disruption update Paul.W. 6/8/12 6:21 AM
I've updated and it's still not working. My location never updates. If I start the app it says location unknown, when the GPS locks on it says "location known on map" but never updates to the web. If i turn the app on and off it goes back to location unkown. All the while my friends location updates with current location information.

Re: Latitude disruption update Mark Parity 6/8/12 3:53 PM
I'm not just having a problem on my HTC EVO but in all browsers on all computers.  Everyone keeps talking about installing the update on their phones but what about the computer browser version?  There is no software installed for this so it's still a failure on the server-side of things.  None of my friends update and the map puts me in the middle of the Pacific Pond.  I can't believe Google doesn't at least post something on the latitude site explaining the outage, what to expect, when to expect it, etc.  It sounds like this problem is sporadic and is not impacting everyone.  I'm in the Seattle area if that makes a difference to anyone trying to find a pattern in all of this.

We have 185 android phones, mostly newer (oldest being original Thunderbolt) and I have been getting many calls about this issue.  Most users are simply turning off latitude, some are turning off GPS services, etc... It's not pretty.

My 6.8.1 Maps pull-down says "Latitude", not "Join Latitude", and it did turn Latitude back on again, where the "Latitude" choice in "Layers" did not.  But after I set the phone down for a few minutes and checked again, it was turned off again.

I restarted the phone, opened Maps, and Latitude was again turned off.  It won't stay on.

Ok... so Latitude worked GREAT for the several years I have used it.  On my phone  it gets stuck in the loop.  I am on Version 6.8.1.  I have done a hard reset on the phone (arrrgh!)  Location sharing was not on when I started Latitude. Did another hard reset and location sharing was turned on then I started Latitude.  It didn't make a difference.  Same loop.  When I go to Join Latitude it says Loading then I get Share location with family or friends.  I touch on that. .Next screen is Background location reporting.  Remember:  Location sharing IS turned on (Settings/Location) Next step is Agree & Continue.  Saves Saving selection and THAT is the loop.  NOTHING happens except it says saving location over and over again.  Like bad mushrooms it never stops!  Well... until I hit the home key then I suppose it's doing it in the background!

ALSO, EVERY TIME I sign into Latitude on my PC, as long as I don't go to another screen for too long (it times me out) it says: Location sharing is not turned on.  This is not true and it doesn't matter what browser I use I get the same message. Location sharing IS on in Chrome, FF, and IE.

Re: Latitude disruption update TonyLoon 6/11/12 2:43 PM
Not sure if this will help any of you out there but it helped me (ended up fixing my issue myself). For some unknown reason my Google Plus account became suspended and I had no idea why. After looking at the Google Plus group the main cause for this is when you don't use your full name (I had first name but only used the first initial of my last name).

Based on this I went and edited my Plus profile to use my full name, once I updated Plus with my full name my profile was re-instated within minutes (although Google says that it can take up to a week for review).

I went immediately to Latitude and guess what... it worked... both from PC and from phone... would like to hear if that resolved anyone else's issue...
Re: Latitude disruption update YAWN 6/11/12 3:14 PM
Loon... that's interesting because I ADDED a last name to my account (only had ... before) and then Latitude broke.
Re: Latitude disruption update TonyLoon 6/11/12 3:21 PM
Interesting to me too since I NEVER changed my name settings... been that way since 2000 or whenever I first had my google account...

I just updated to try and fix the problem of receiving a friend request and it not going away, not showing friends, etc. Now it is stuck on the screen where I agree and continue saying "Saving Selection" and it never saves. This is the email address I use, you can access my location information (though I couldn't when I tried before the update). Do whatever needs to be done to fix this because it doesn't work at all, not even in google chrome. I am using a Sprint network/Boost mobile Samsung Transform Ultra and just installed the maps update.

Re: Latitude disruption update YAWN 6/12/12 4:53 PM
The problem for many of us is when we click on the Latitude layer we get stuck in a loop and we cannot get passed that point in order to follow your next steps.

Patch 6.8.1 appears to be working after a few days of use.  People can see me without having to check in manually.  I can see others who have upgraded to 6.8.1 and performed the reboot.  There are still several people who have not upgraded to the latest patch and they are not updating.  I hate to bug people about updating their Latitude because they'll know I'm stalking them. :)

Works on both my LTE Nexus and my LTE Xoom.
Re: Latitude disruption update Ender0 6/13/12 8:57 AM
That is very disturbing considering some of us may not want to be members of Google +, and on top of that, I may not want everyone being able to track me down from any email I send out because it would contain my full name. Having these things mandatorily tied together will eventually lead to many people quitting google altogether, as that is my next step if I am required to put in my full name where the whole world can see in order to get full functionality. Previously I had only my initials in there for both my first and last name and it functioned properly. Much like Microsoft, it seems this update with added features actually breaks the features, requiring everyone to update in order for the updated people to see them as well as requiring people to create google+ profiles in order to use the service now.

I am unable to enter the latitude service because when I click accept it gets stuck in the "Saving settings" loop and never actually enters. I cannot do it from google chrome either, and it doesn't allow me to accept a request, it just stays on the unaccepted status and shows nothing.

Requiring people to disclose who they are to the whole world in a public way will lead to either liars or extreme lack of security.
Re: Latitude disruption update cminor75 6/13/12 8:57 AM
Well - I guess I am glad I am not the only one stuck in the saving selection loop.  Just tried again and I am getting the same thing.
Re: Latitude disruption update wpf7 6/13/12 9:09 AM
And FYI, being "stuck" in the saving loop has nothing to do with Google+.

Going on 4 weeks of being down.  Anybody have any suggestions for another product to try with similar features?

Re: Latitude disruption update ClayDallas 6/13/12 9:11 AM
Folks still having this issue may want to try this.  I've seen a common thread here, those fixing the Latitude issue seem to be signing out of Google and signing back in.  Try this if you haven't already:

Make sure you're running the latest Google Maps - go to the apps store and update.
Turn off Latitude on the phone (Maps, press menu, Location Settings, Sign out of Latitude).
    Turn off phone (Power off).
Open web browser on PC, go to Google, log out of Google / Gmail.
I don't know much about Google Plus, but if you're a member of that, sign out of that, too.
    Turn phone back on.
Turn on Latitude on the phone (Maps, press Layers icon at top, touch Latitude).
Log into PC and log into Google / Gmail.

    Hope that helps.

Re: Latitude disruption update Ender0 6/13/12 11:57 AM
Just tried that, logged out on PC, shut down phone, started up phone, tried to activate latitude, same saving problem. I think, like the fact that the accept request never goes away, that it has something to do with previously saved settings/agreed to things are not getting deleted. I accepted the first time around, after the update was rolled out, I lost functionality on my old version, now I'm using a new version and it can't save that I am accepting anything because I've already accepted it. Even if that were the problem though, that would not explain why it does not work on the PC. Doing it from within chrome should have over-rode anything and allowed it to go through, but the friend request and accepting terms never gets saved. It's as if google doesn't want to save those options to an account if they do not bother setting up their google+ account. If that turns out to be true, I urge everyone to change their names to censor bypassing inappropriate words so google can figure out it's not right to require one thing to use the other.
Re: Latitude disruption update Ender0 6/13/12 1:13 PM
I've noticed something else strange, when I go to google dashboard, under "more data about this device" under my phone, it says the last time my phone was active was June 8th. What date does yours say?

That was around the time I set up my 2 step authentication on my gmail account to keep people from hacking it.

    -- Update --
After having reset my phone and trying everything to get it working, I uninstalled the update to Latitude. Then after dabbling around in my pc google account, I stumbled across google dashboard. In the dashboard there are links to many various settings and I tried to change settings in various youtube and other google accounts, finally clicking on the google location history in dashboard. That actually managed to take me into the location history rather than going to latitude.google.com, and so from there i went to the friends tab and accepted the friend request. That allowed my friend to be saved and their location to be shared with me. I am hoping this might matriculate into the phone so that it will allow me to finally use latitude.

A step in the right direction, hopefully latitude will work, and if it does, hopefully it continues to work after updating.
Re: Latitude disruption update cminor75 6/13/12 1:33 PM
IT WORKS!!!!  I don't know if the timing was a fluke - but I googled "google dashboard" went into Lattitude that way and now it is all fixed!  I could finally accecpt the freind that was outstanding - delete a duplicate friend and the Widget on my phone even works.

Fingers crossed it sticks!  It was strange becuase on my phone normally I was getting the box to accecpt terms thus going into the "loop" - this time it went right into the map and showed my friends.

I hope it stays - and I hope everyone else get the same result.

Re: Latitude disruption update Ender0 6/13/12 2:33 PM
It works with the rolled back version as well. I am guessing something about the google dashboard let us bypass the errors we were experiencing from the other addresses.

Seems to be a solution google, so unless there was some background rollback or update on your servers, you may want to put this into your knowledgebase.
Re: Latitude disruption update Ender0 6/13/12 2:35 PM
Once you've accepted the terms on your phone or on the website, it should stop the loop in either place because it saves that you accepted to your google account. Bypassing the problem on the web helped me bypass it on my phone.
Re: Latitude disruption update qwksvt99 6/13/12 5:01 PM
Unfortunately the only one person that was updating for me with a number that didn't now does not update. Running latest version. Tried all the fixes. We haven't heard from Google (Jade W) in a while. Though I love Google I am rapidly getting to the point that unending "free" software in unending "beta" state will be its undoing for Google and for me.  Latitude real-time updates went away.  Thanks..... Fix it not kill it. Now Latitude itself is broken with no fix in site.  Google's email has had no major update including  "read", "received" or "important" status to apply (yes I know the receiver can ignore the couple of flags).  street view in a store Neat!  but fix  and update what is out there. In fact, Google's search now returns years old responses on the first page.  Google Apps how can I go there when I see this (and yes I used Google Apps in my latest job) for myself. I love Google.  But, Google please approach software development with a sense of ownership. Having worked in Medical Software for hospitals there is no quality control (assurance).  It was not business critical but life critical.  So far I don't even see  functional critical..... You can hire me to implement the 10 types of testing that must be done before software is released even into a sandbox environment. Please get it together before I am forced to go to independent apps that work or "Bong",  or "yeahoo", or my own server for "Music", etc. Just call me Latitude down and out and waiting to be surprised but a little bit more and I guess I  will move along the working software path.......
Re: Latitude disruption update Matthewv1978 6/14/12 3:12 AM
Lattitude won't work on my Samgung Galaxy s2 either now since I updated to the new version 4.0.3.   Its caused massive battery issues and I've even had to factory reset.

Latitude is showing my friends where I am, but not showing me where my friends are... they are all just in an 'Unknown Location'!   It's most annoying.

    Is there a fix yet?

Hi Matthew - are you still seeing 'Unknown Location' for all of your friends?
Re: Latitude disruption update Ineedmylatitudeback 6/15/12 8:06 AM

All friends showing but showing “unknown”

    All friends can see me

My location is on the website. My friends on the computer site look just like on my phone, stale.

What is the make/model, service carrier, OS version of your device (if you haven't already provided it)?

I have a Droid Incredible 2 HTC Google phone.

    Verizon Wireless

    Android Version 2.3.4

    HTC Sense Version 2.1

    Software # 5.10.605.9

    PRI Version 1.92_002

    ERI Version 5

Is the email account you're using for the forum the same as your latitude account?

    Yes

Do we have permission to look at your account's Location History for debugging purposes?

    Yes

    Some Details:

My boyfriend has the EXACT same phone as me. And all updates. His latitude works fine. He tried everything to get mine working.

I have Updated to Google Maps 6.8.1 (It was actually already on this update when it started happening). I joined latitude.

    Rebooted my phone.

    Took the battery out.

    Factory reset my phone.

Tried uninstalling all updates and then reinstalling 6.8.1. Still no changes

Tried another Factory reset to make an entirely new Gmail account to run latitude with (no difference so I reset my phone again to plug my original Gmail back into it)

I can check in and he can see where I checked in on his phone

He checked in and couldn’t see his check in on my phone. He still showed stale. We confirmed on a friend phone he could see him and he was checked in.

He tried "setting" his location to somewhere on the map – I couldn’t see him still and a friend could

He joined Google+ and checked in and he popped up on my map. That was the single only time he showed. After time expired bc it wouldn’t update him he went stale again (even though he was not) (I already have Google+

I tried signing in and out go google+ to see if that worked.

I uninstalled all updates for Maps and then reinstalled. Didn’t change anything.

I signed in on the computer to see if I could view my friends. nope same as my phone.

When I pinged him for the check in and he checked in I got an alert in the top of my phone saying he checked in, yet it would show he checked in or his place on the map. Just that he was stale.

Also when I clicked hide stale friend everyone who was showing location unknown still remained even though stale. EVERY person was unknown.

My friend phones range from IPhones to HTC to others. All can see me, I can’t see any of them.

Re: Latitude disruption update smark 6/16/12 2:42 AM
    Hi

Had the same Latitude stale issue  for a week or so. We are 8-10 people in the family sharing our locations, and for most of us locations only showed up as stale. Then we found out that one of us were using Latitude on her iPad and on her Galaxy Nexus simultaneously. Then today she uninstalled the iPad version and now everything works perfect! Nobody shows up stale unless they choose to. :)
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 6/16/12 8:50 AM
WTF?  Latitude on my Galaxy S2 is now claiming I am in Hong Kong??!   As a precaution I have reset my password but there seems to be no strange account activity and my phone shows me in the far east when I'm sitting in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada?  Given Google map and latitude's behavior recently I'm not 100% surprised.  My dad actually called because he thought I was on a sudden business trip.
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 6/16/12 9:25 AM
I should add this location is the one calculated by cell radio location. My wifi is off. This is the way I am always configured. Once a GPS lock is acquired, which suddenly takes forever (probably due to my seed location halfway around the world), I am of course back in the right place. Is there possibly something mangled in the cell tower location database that Google builds from the wireless providers?
Re: Latitude disruption update slippies 6/16/12 12:17 PM
Nothing seems to work! Updated maps, turned phone on, turned phone off, twirled around, said a chant, sprinkled fairy dust...still not working!
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 6/16/12 7:53 PM
OK so I'm posting this in the likely vain hope someone Googlish will have a clue how to get it fixed.

My wife and I are set up with matching SGSII's on Bell and configured virtually identially.  Since this started a day or so ago: when using cell tower positioning only I get "moved" to Hong Kong when home (but overridden when maps/latitude is active and the GPS kicks in).  For her we simply get "Waiting for location" and then "Your current location is temporarily unavailable" until the GPS kicks in.  When the GPS is off or forced off she doesn't get updated and I go to Hong Kong again.

My best guess is that the position information of our local cell tower has become corrupted and/or deleted in the central database.  Not knowing exactly how this lat-long information is transmitted and cached I am guessing that somehow on my locally cached DB it is basically Hong Kong.  On her's it is garbage or it was flushed and a new location is not available from the central Google DB.

Upsides:  1. For those of you who look at their dashboard; I'm going to get to the moon in no time... &
                   2. All my latitude buddies now think I'm an international playboy with a private jet, well actually a teleport booth is more likely (or for you Steven Gould I've finally come out as a "Jumper").

Ha!  My wife and I have identical phones as well, and use cell tower location with Latitude.  She regularly gets bounced all across the USA, we're in Dallas but she has been seen in Florida, New York, Seattle, Houston, and other places.  What's odd is that she's often seen at or very hear large hospitals.  Weird stuff but it's not like I can ask for a refund on Google Latitude!

Motorola Backflip, AT&T android 2.1...I also switched to Samsung Captivate AT&T android 2.2 and having this problem on both phones.  it was working fine with the backflip, but I changed phones to the samsung and it worked fine for quite a few hours and then all of a sudden around 3am that night I started having this problem. my one friend that I had all of a sudden was not a friend and it said it was requesting me (but he was not since he was alread a friend) I cannot accept his request it just goes to a loop. he gets notified every time I accept but I cannot see him but he can see me fine. I am now back on the backflip where I have never had a problem with it and I am still having the problem. I have tried numerous things that have been posted here and nothing is working it has been almost a week. tried everything we could think of on both ends. for some reason the latest update I have on maps is 6.4 and it says it is updated. but it was working fine before with that version. please fix this or at least tell what we need to do to fix it. I was someone would respond to at least let us know if it is a bug, what they are doing to fix it, or what is going on...why are only some people having the problem where he can see me but I have lost him it makes no sense.
Re: Latitude disruption update Ender0 6/20/12 3:03 PM
I am beginning to suspect the only reason mine started working, and possibly others, is because they posted on here and gave their model info and other details. Then the google crew responsible forced those specific ones to work through their manual manipulation, but not others.

If that is not the case, the method that worked for me was to log out of google services on the computer, uninstall the latest google maps update, log out on the phone (turn it off if you can't log out), and then go to google dashboard and log in, follow the link within the dashboard that takes you to google location history (prior to me following that link, I actually followed dashboard links to youtube account settings and other google services changing various settings in each one - I have not confirmed if that is a requirement) and from that panel then activate it/accept friend requests, and after turning your phone back on it should be working.

Again, I suspect that people are working behind the scenes to help everyone who posts here but are not rolling out any kind of fixes for the general public, so post as much information as you can about your phone model, cellular service carrier, and other questions as outlined in the original post.
Re: Latitude disruption update ClayDallas 6/20/12 3:28 PM
Even though Latitude does "work" for me (most of the time) after logging out of everything (including www.latitude.google.com, the iPad app, the andriod phone, and Gmail), I still experience new problems with Latitude on my HTC MyTouch 4G with T-Mobile.

I'll open Maps on the phone, and I can see my icon appear.  If I zoom out, I disappear, and so does everyone else (my added Latitude friends).  But if I close Maps and then re-open it, they all appear again.  Sometimes if I touch the "my location" compass (top right), it'll zoom to my location, but my Latitude icon is not there - bu the little blue arrow is.  I can touch layers, and sure enough, Latitude is turned on.  I close Maps, re-open it, and there I am.

Yesterday, I opened Maps and saw myself at my home location, as expected.  I touched my icon, the Latitude navigation arrows appeared (I wish they would stay on all the time, like the used to!) and I touched the right arrow.  It zoomed to the next friend, showed their icon briefly, then they disappeared.  I closed Maps, re-opened it, and the friend's icon was there.

Just now I opened Maps and my icon is not there.  I touched Layers, and Latitude is NOT turned on.  I did not turn it off, it seems to turn itself off. I turned it back on, closed Maps, opened Maps, and there I am.

    Frustrating!

Re: Latitude disruption update tonya73 6/22/12 7:44 PM
I tried doing this with both phones, and still not working. the friend request is there but i cannot accept it it just keeps looping. he can see me fine but even following your suggestions noting has worked.   i appreciate you sharing your info and trying to help Ender0...any other suggestions for me? i am open to anything. i tried with uninstalling updats, i tried with reinstalling updates, i turned off the phone and logged out of lattitude on teh phone logged out of all google stuff on the computer...nothing changed :( i went thru dashboard as you said but that did not help either still same problem. really frustrated at this point i wish someone from google would let us know what is going on if they are trying to fix this or what.

Hi! After the problem of 'stale' friends seemed to be fixed (beginning of June disruptions), my friends again appeared 'stale' this morning. Their locations have not updated for more than 10 hours. I wonder if this mess is happenning again...
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 6/23/12 7:38 AM
So one strange thing I have been seeing the last week or so is that when I launch Latitude it goes right to the map view after displaying the friends list (assuming it isn't stuck loading friends which is still happening a lot on subsequent access after the initial time).  I then have to go back.  I don't have a clue why this started unless there was some sort of behind the scenes push update.

I'm using Latitude on Blackberry. Recently it worked too slow in updating the location of my friends. And yesterday, I noticed that somewhat it didn't update my friends location anymore although the time was updated. But latitude still keep updating my location. It's just my friends' that didn't update.
This morning the problem still haven't resolve yet. Because my friends location haven't been updated and the time just indicated "5 h ago". Although my friends told me that, they have moved to another place.

I'm currently using Latitude version is 4.5.3. I've tried log out and then sign in again. And I've rebooted my phone.
Still the problem not resolved yet. I've been using latitude for months already and usually it worked well although most of the times it pointed my location a bit further than my real location.

I like using latitude because it really help me track down where my friends and family was and was a big help when we get lost. And I'm quite confused when it stopped updating location.
Any suggestion to help me fix this problem?

I'm following up on bug fixes for the Optimus V on Virgin Mobile - Android 2.2 (?) ...

It's my old phone -- one of the primary reasons I gave it to my friend was so I could follow him as he travels across the country (for a living).
Latitude seems to be working fine on my phone, however, his location doesn't update without my pinging him to "check in" -- which is annoying and defeats the purpose!

Also, when he joined Latitude, he promptly sent me a friend request, which I promptly accepted. Nothing happened. It wasn't until I sent him a request, and he accepted, that he showed up on my map.

I think there may be other bugs in how Latitude is operating on this phone, but right now I'd just like it to UPDATE!
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 6/28/12 5:43 PM
Well the update just pushed out seems to have cured the "Stuck on Loading Friends" problem.  However I still have the issue that got introduced sometime in the last week or two where that list only stays up a moment or two before switching to map mode.  This is really annoying and I don't know why it would do this.

Again the outstanding issue for me is that after clicking on the Latitude icon (I.E. launching to the 'Friends'/Latitude view) the friends list comes up and then almost immediately switches to the map view of my current location with the Latitude layer on.  You then have to use the dropdown to switch back to the 'Friends'/Latitude view.

It does this *every and all* the time now and started perhaps a week or two ago.
Re: Latitude disruption update nimekuwa 6/28/12 11:06 PM
Yes have noticed the same, clicking the refresh icon while "Loading friends...." seems to help.

Still seem to have a problem adding friends, took several attempts for my daughter and I to become latitude friends I'm none the wiser to what to exactly resolved it.

Re: Latitude disruption update ClayDallas 6/30/12 8:04 PM
Mine has been off and on as well. Mostly, mine loses all the latitude icons for my friends when I zoom out, but they come back if I exit Maps and then reload. It's just frustrating.

Also, latitude turns itself off regularly. Not on the left pull down menu, but the layers menu.

I'm using a Nexus S that I just updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and seemingly all my friends in Latitude disappeared after the update.

    A. All friends missing
    B. They can see me in their contacts, but in a category "Unknown location" and not clickable

I just I was writing this I discovered that location sharing seems to have changed to being disabled on Latitude when i upgraded to Jelly Bean, although I know it was enabled before and I got a request if I wanted to store my location anonymously after the install and I did click allow, so i felt sure it was enabled.
Re: Latitude disruption update ClayDallas 7/21/12 1:48 PM

Yes, I had to enable latitude and sharing after upgrading to 4.1.1 on my new Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Guess the Jellybean upgrade turns it off by default.

    Otherwise, Latitude is working fine.

I have a similar problem - Galaxy S3, Latitude working just fine. Received my Nexus 7 yesterday, upgraded to 4.1.1, and bam, all my contacts have disappeared and they can no longer see me. I can't see any contacts through the Latitude website either.
Re: Latitude disruption update HughBetcha 7/25/12 3:53 AM
My latitude is broken just like everyone else seems to be. I have a notification to add a contact but when I click to add, nothing happens and the same message remains to click to add the contact. I'm using a Galaxy S3 with ICS on Sprint. When I try to add the contact via my laptop/online, it appears to add them but when I close the browser and open it again, they are no longer there and I'm prompted yet again to re-add them. So no matter whether I use my S3 with ICS or my laptop via Windows I'm unable to add a contact (which had mysteriously vanished off m list in the first place, I had never deleted them in the beginning). I have about 3 weeks left of my initial 30 day trial with this S3 phone (and ICS) and I'm definitely leaning towards returning it and going with a iPhone instead. Sorry Google, but sometimes certain features are just that important to someone and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is getting sick and tired of your own app not working on your own operating system. People have been complaining about this lat issue on multiple threads for days/weeks now and so far you've done nothing about it. Suggestions anyone? Thanks! :)
Re: Latitude disruption update ClayDallas 7/25/12 6:47 AM
I had the disruption but it went away after i completely signed out of Latitude and then signed back in.  This was about a 1-2 months ago when the issue started.  The remaining issue I had was that the Latitude icons of friends would not appear right away as they did before, and sometimes would disappear when I would zoom out on the map.

Last week I bought the new Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Jellybean / T-Mobile) and it seems to be much smoother with Latitude, but still, the icons of friends don't appear right away.  To get them to appear, I go to the pull-down menu, touch Latitude, then touch Map View after the faces load.

Not sure if this feature was on my last phone, but when in the Latitude menu, there is a refresh button which will refresh the locations of friends.  This actually works!  It takes about 20-30 seconds to refresh six friends, but it does give their current map location.  love that feature.

To everyone still having issues, make sure your Maps is updated, your OS is updated, and try signing out of all Latitude and Google accounts on your phone, then sign back in.

Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 7/25/12 7:03 AM
Just an update here that my present state is pretty much like ClayDallas.  Lattitude largely working but it skips to the map view from the friends screen by itself right after loading friends.  You then have to use the dropdown to go back.  Annoying.  This has been going on for a couple of months.
Re: Latitude disruption update HughBetcha 7/25/12 8:20 AM

Just FYI, signing out and signing back in again didn't work for me (glad it worked for some others though). :)

Another thing I did that I forgot to mention was that I terminated Google+ (or Google Plus, or whatever it's called).  Not really sure what that's about but I did search and find a way to disable that.  Not sure if that had anything to do with Latitude starting to work for me, but wanted to mention it.

Re: Latitude disruption update AzRealtor 7/25/12 2:51 PM
Hey all!  Well, it looks like GOOGLE IS IGNORING THIS ISSUE and not posting a response OR search result to address thousands of us not getting maps/latitude on our PC's or Smartphones!  Why?

GOOGLE, at least have the courtesy to let your users ( of many of your other products also) WHY this is happening and when we can anticipate this to be resolved.

I'm running Droid Bionic ICS.  PC is Windows 7 Premium with Chrome, FireFox and IE.  All possible updates have been performed.

    Thank you in advance,

    A Loyal Google User

I have this app installed and all of my friends on latitude are gone.  They have all just disappeared and Latitude won't give me anymore suggestions for people to add.

Re: Latitude disruption update HughBetcha 7/26/12 3:05 AM
I was able to fix mine though it was a pain to do so. What I did was have the person who I couldn't add to my latitude list anymore completely remove me from their Gmail email address contact list and I similarly completely deleted them from my Gmail email contact address list, so our Gmail accounts had no record of either of us 'knowing' each other at all. I then re-sent an add request via latitude and they were able to add me and they then re-shared with me and it worked fine. Not sure if this will work for others as well, but it's worth a try. I should note that I'm using an S3 phone on ICS (not Jelly Bean), just in case my fix method doesn't work for you, it'd be useful for people to notice the difference in systems.

I have been complaining to Google about no Latitude on my Android Bionic OR my PC for months!!!  I was lead to believe that the 'standard' Latitude is being fazed out but you can get Latitude ONLY if you pay for their business/commercial use of it.  Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Google has yet to EXPLAIN WHY WE'RE ALL HAVING THESE PROBLEMS.  NO PLAIN ANSWER...they're doing a good job at SKIRTING THE SUBJECT!

Sorry for caps...I'm still upset about it.
Re: Latitude disruption update VesNL 8/10/12 1:40 PM
You are wrong. You Latitude is free and not limited to business and commercial use only.

There is no "standard"  latitude, there is just one version.

Latitude has basically stopped working on my Nexus since I upgraded to JellyBean on my (WiFi) Motorola Xoom.
It looks like it updates my position locally but all my Latitude friends are gone.
I have access to my one friend's phone.  On that I am still the sole friend but my location is "Unknown".  We try to re-friend each other but no emails are sent out.

It's only been about 2 days but already miss Latitude.
I have a feeling it has something to do with my Xoom.
Re: Latitude disruption update Stark Raven Mad 8/10/12 1:53 PM
    OMG, I got it working.

It seems all instances of Google account login are tied together now.
All Google Maps Android apps are too.

All I did was turn on location sharing on both my devices that have Google Maps Android installed and joined Latitude on both.
    I have a WiFi tablet.

Not only did Latitude magically start working on my phone, but on my desktop browser as well!

I hereby rescind the permission to look through my account.  It's fixed.
Try turning on location on all your devices folks.  Good luck.
Re: Latitude disruption update josuetenista 8/10/12 10:34 PM
That method doesnt work either. I have read a lot about this topic and I think the root of all the problems is the nexus 7 or a JB device. I've been using latitude without any problems for the past 2-3 years and in many devices at the same time, never had this kind of troubles.
Re: Latitude disruption update miraclemarc 8/11/12 6:35 AM
Thanks for the update! This actually worked for me too.  Have a Razr Maxx and Xoom WiFi.  It ended up my Xoom had location turned off.  When I turned it on it magically started working everywhere!   Thanks!

        Guys,
The Issue is completely solved on my phone. I don't know because people of google looked and fixed my problem since I posted here or because
I've updated  Today (16 of August ) google maps to version 6.10.0 ...
Re-joined latitude... re-actived the location sharing (it's disabled by default) and friends are back again on the phone and on the web

Re: Latitude disruption update Patrick_Rice_UK 8/17/12 5:55 AM
I'm having the opposite results here - yesterday's new update is what CAUSED all my woes...  and my girlfriend's, and my brothers...

As of the new 15th August 2012 App update, ver 6.10 I think it's numbered, with the new icon, and daily location history, Latitude Friends got seriously messed up for me and many others.

About 8 of my friends (who are my family and children actually), disappeared into the STALE FRIENDS Section.

Moreover, their location changed to UNKNOWN LOCATION.

No amount of re-enabling Location Sharing, Clearing Map Cache, clearing map data, logging out and in, or even rolling the application version back, has had ANY effect on this.

        Nightmare.

This is on a Samsung Galaxy S3 running the latest firmware of ICS 4.0.4, on T-Mobile UK, though the device and firmware is generic, not operator.

You have permission to access my account if this helps, and my email relating to it, as per the one I post to the Forum now.

It's just incredible how an App Update which for most already experiencing this problem, now fixes it, instead causes it for THE FIRST TIME for those not experiencing the issue before. 3 People that I know of at least, have lost all their friends, thanks to this new Update.

You'll get a line for what's actually going on, one day Google...
Re: Latitude disruption update Silverblue 8/17/12 6:08 AM
        Hi!

If your friends have also updated to the latest version of Maps, then under location settings they have to check 'enable location sharing'. Otherwise they are shown as stale. I wonder why in this upgrade Google left this unchecked by default. This causes a lot of frustration. I had the same issue, but now my friends are gradually 'returning' to the live list.
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 8/17/12 7:17 AM
I cannot believe an update would mess with the settings!! :-( This is getting to be vintage Google.  The update *still* does not fix the issue that was introduced some time ago where it bounces to the map view right away from the 'Friends' screen and you have to go back.  <sigh>

as of yesterday my friend is now showing as unknown location AGAIN. it has been working fine for quite a while up until yesterday, and that was before i knew there was an update. last time the problem was that i did not have his gmail as the default email, but i checked that and that is not the problem this time.   i did the update and it is still not working. i have logged out and back on both on my pc and my phone, rebooted my pc and my phone, updated to the latest google maps and rebooted again, and still showing as unknown location.

One day I used my Mobile phone Latitude and all friends were gone.  I checked my PC web browser Latitude and all friends were gone there too!  I freaked!

Finally found a fix!  I use latitude on an iphone, android phone, and PC web browser.

        ======================

        The FIX!

Uninstall and reinstall GOOGLE MAPS on Android, run Google Maps and then go into settings/location-settings and enable Location Sharing.  THAT'S WHEN ALL MY FRIENDS MAGICALLY CAME BACK ON IPHONE, ANDROID, AND PC WEB BROWSER!

Google updated Android google Maps recently and it requires you to re-enable location sharing.

Re: Latitude disruption update ignotus87 9/18/12 12:25 PM
Simply go to Settings > Apps and find Maps, tap Remove updates, reinstall it from Play, open Latitude, check Share position. Then, re-add your friends if they are gone from the list. Maybe your friends will have to do the same. Maybe you'll have to do these steps several times before it finally gets fixed. Good luck.

On my phone and on the web my friends list is suddenly empty. Also, my location history only shows my home address. It doesn't show any of the other places I've been to.

        Will this ever be fixed?

        Dear Google Folks-
Please help. I have a serious problem. My latitude history shows me at another location about .5 mile away from my house overnights while my husband is on a business trip. There are only two other incidences that show before his trip, one in which he recalls my being home with him. However, the gps shows me between my house and the other location for that weekend and not again once he returns from his trip. It also shows other locations which appear totally accurate and time stamps marked between my house and the other location (as if in route).

He believes I have cheated. Is there ANY WAY that I can demonstrate to him that the gps data cannot be certain?
        -E
Re: Latitude disruption update Daryle Tilroe 11/8/12 8:29 AM
Not the correct thread for this but just tell him if you were cheating you woudn't be dumb enough to be bring a tracking device with you.  But in all seriousness the location is built up from GPS, Cell phone tower databases, and Wi-fi location databases.  Unless the GPS is on (which it often isn't unless you have maps or navigation actively running) your location is very approximate (I bounce between two towers when at home).  Heck for a week or two the cell tower location nearest me had some how got messed up and it was a Hong Kong lat & lon.  Everyone thought I was on an exotic business trip or vacation.

I completely re-aded a friend maybe a week ago, and it worked for a day or so. No I can't see him again. I can see all iOS users, only other android users are missing. I'm on Android too.
Re: Latitude disruption update Erik T. 1/4/13 5:18 PM
It s*c*s big time, i can not add anyone anymore (at least no android user as i have tried). It started with not seeing some people anymore, aftere deleting them i can not add them anymore. I can click on the link, but nothing is happening. It started (when i'm right) after integrating maps with latitude. After reading this topic i just can't understand that it has to take almost half a year to resolve this issue. Kinda frustrating.... Or am i in a silent trial for new (not working) features, same like i suddenly was in a HTML5 trial where i could not see a lot of youtube content anymore. Took a lot of time finding out what was the problem en how to solve it (get out of the trial).

not sure if im in the right forum, but my family uses latitude to keep up with each other, we all have firstl...@gmail.com,  i am the only one out of four accounts who cannot receive friend requests, sent from other gmail accounts to mine or vice versa, neither seems to work. i accepted all other requests for the other accounts via PC web browser.

Re: Latitude disruption update Said Elnaffar 1/22/13 5:51 AM
Upgrading what please? Your mobile? Your Maps App? and does it work properly all the way down to getting the accurate updates of your family members or frineds? People are complaining about this issue for the last 3 years, i.e., since the inception of Latitude!

Please test things and report to us. I am using Samsung Galaxy Note I with Android 4.0.4 (no updates are pending yet).
Re: Latitude disruption update Sayan Daw 1/22/13 6:06 AM
Upgrading the Google Maps Apps to 6.14.2. (As I read on the blog .. it says that CURRENT VERSION: Varies with device)
So after I upgraded.. I rebooted the phone waited for 3 mins opened Maps (Noticed the separate Icon for Latitude is gone) clicked on Latitude and it started showing my friends back ... :)

It's getting accurate updates for my friends ... I see the location (which is correct) and the last time of update

        --------------------
        And Yes
In the past when the Latitude stopped working .. I closed out Google+ service (needed by Latitude) and rejoined after upgrading .. (Not sure if this had anything to do with the fix)

Re: Latitude disruption update tonya73 2/14/13 2:49 PM
The problem i am having now is that it does not update for sometimes days at a time. after like 2 days or sometmes longer of my friend being at a stale location it will finaly change but then that loacation will stay stale for another few days, or even changed to unknown location. i have checked the settings on his phone and he has it set to detect his location so it should be working fine, as it has been for a while up until the past month or so..he says it works fine on his end and my location updates fine. I have a samsung galaxy captivate with android 2.2 i believe. please fix this it is annoying

I was directed here after numerous attempts to find out why Latitude keeps requiring login every few minutes.
There are MANY unhappy Latitude users that have been posting their frustration on Apple's App store.

        Please post a fix

Latitude is not working on either of my Blackberry phones either.  I have a Blackberry Bold 9900 and a Blackberry Style 9670. They are both running version 4.5.3 of Google Maps.  The 9900 is on AT&T and the 9670 is on Sprint.  Both worked in December and January of 2012 & 2013 but have not worked lately.  Will not allow me to join latitude, as when I try to join it logs me out of my account. Have tried reinstalling, rebooting and nothing seems to fix it.

Latitude disruption update nicopa 3/24/13 5:28 PM
Latitude is becoming a nightmare on my iPhone 4.
It keeps stopping and I keep having to log in again.
Even worse - the map is that useless Apple map with the wrong landmarks.
All my programs are up to date.
        Please Google, fix this.

I am having this problem.  My husband and I have Samsung Galaxy S3.  My latitude just shows a stake location from 8 hours ago.  I've tried pinging for check in,  but he isn't getting my pings.  Wet can Google chat so I have no idea why this isn't working.  I've rebooted several times.  My maps is updated and all nothing.
Re: Latitude disruption update another James Martin 4/11/13 6:40 AM
What I found worked for me, is to go into Google+ and enable location sharing there too. Any friends that aren't showing will also have to do the same. After I did this for my phone and my wife's phone, I got an e-mail within a minute or two saying she had accepted my friend request (although she already had a long time before). I hope this helps some people.

Latitude disruption update MANU KAPILA 4/14/13 10:23 AM
This issue has cropped up again. All the friends are shown as UNKNOWN LOCATION.
this has now effected all mobile devices - android iPhone and blackberry.
Tried changing email accounts it still shows the same problem.
Trying to access the same through a computer again shows all friends as UNKNOWN LOCATION.

Wow, months after this still has not been fixed...
Re: Latitude disruption update Miaka 5/1/13 11:34 PM
Same problem here, Lat shows friends but all unknown locations & not showing up on my map at all. Not for my PC or cell phone, I use Chrome, windows xp & HTC Windows 8 phone. I've updated both, but still nothing. Is it still not working?
Re: Latitude disruption update jfabian84 5/9/13 6:50 AM
The following steps have helped some users resolve the issue, make sure you've done the following before sending us a new report:
        • Update to Google Maps 6.8.1 [using 6.14.3]
        • Tap "Join Latitude" [turned off location sharing / rebooted phone / enabled location sharing / rebooted phone]
        • Reboot your phone
        • Wait several minutes
Still not working? What are you seeing?

        A. Are some or all friends missing? [some]
        B. Can your friends see you? [some]
        C. Is your location updated on the website? [yes]

        Device specifications and permissions:
        1. What is the make/model, service carrier, OS version of your device (if you haven't already provided it)? [Galaxy Nexus, Verizon, 4.2.2 / Chrome]
        2. Is the email account you're using for the forum the same as your latitude account? Only answer yes/no, do not post your email address. [yes and specifically having issues with adding my wife, who is at the same domain (Jenny)]
        3. Do we have permission to look at your account's Location History for debugging purposes? (This is strictly confidential and used solely for troubleshooting) [yes]

Having issues adding my wife specifically.  We have a google apps account on the same domain.  When I add her as a friend, she receives an email, but no in-app notification, and doesn't see the request on the latitude site.  When she sends me a request, I sometimes get a notification in-app.  If that's the case, I will accept it about 4-times before it goes away.  My wife is "added" but her location is unknown and I don't appear in her friends list.  If I click the link to accept the request in my desktop email, I get sent to the latitude site where I am sometimes prompted to accept the friend request.  I press the accept button on the latitude site and she appears to be added.  When I refresh the page the request prompt re-appears.  She goes in the stale contacts and has an unknown location.  I don't appear in her friends list.
Re: Latitude disruption update jfabian84 5/9/13 1:47 PM
I was able to resolve this by signing in from my wife's account on an Android tablet, enabling location sharing, and reporting location from device and accepting the request on the tablet.

Once enabled, the updates are working both ways from her iPhone and my Android phone, even after disabling location reporting from device (on the Android tablet).
