As mentioned in a few other threads, the new Maps causes a reboot on the HTC Rezound (running latest ICS update).
|Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Silverblue||8/16/12 11:55 AM|
Unfortunately, with this update (same as with previois), my friends (with android phones) started to go stale. This happened a few hours after the update. Within 3 hours, I have lost all of my friends, then a couple of them returned live, two are still in 'unknown location'. One more thing - when I updated, though showing the right location, the description of location was wrong (first in Ukraine, then in Estonia, me being in Latvia). It has corrected now. Hoping also for my friends status returning live soon.
I am on Samsung Galaxy S2, my provider is Latvian Mobile Phone. Android version 4.0.3. Maps 6.10.0

And also, as reported in various places, causing crashes/reboots on the HTC Sensation 4G.
(Possibly only in navigation mode.)
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/16/12 1:19 PM|
Unfortunately on the rezound this update disabled my bluetooth, reboots my rezound everytime I try to use the map/ navigation, I can no longer use maps and I can no longer use maps on this phone now, nor can I use my bluetooth if I run dis map.

Lost my Layers option with the update... would be nice to have a layers button in the maps so that I won't have to go to menu and then layers.

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/16/12 6:44 PM|
Why is it disabling my bluetooth , I can't even turn on bluetooth unless I do a cold boot
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||wxjay||8/16/12 6:56 PM|
HTC Rezound, ICS, Verizon. The new update crashed my phone when opening the Maps app. And after downgrading back to Maps 6.3, the Navigation beta is still installed and no longer interrupts my Music app on the phone when it is running to announce turns, etc. It worked great before that - please help!
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/16/12 9:05 PM|
Try going to 9.6.2, we can't post links so just search for it. I have the same setup as yours and that's what I did

HTC Sensation ICS T-Mobile UK
After a minute of using maps in any way it my phone restarts.
And Where has the latitude widget gone, love to know why it's removed, I used it a lot. Currently my most used features of the phone now don't work,how onearth did Google release something with catastophic failures.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||cindych||8/16/12 11:24 PM|
Thanks for your feedback. I have escalated the missing layers issue and the crash issue to the product team. I may reach out to some of you individually for more details. I'll provide an update as soon as I can.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||skatergirl||8/17/12 6:14 AM|
Thank you, Cindy. I hope it is fixed soon. I have not yet rolled back my updates but I miss my maps!! I have the Rezound and as you have heard, opening maps is causing the Rezound to reboot. It looks like a very nice update .... from what I have been able to briefly see. Can't wait till it works again!
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||c_topher_v||8/17/12 7:25 AM|
Latest update is causing phone to restart on mine and my wife's Sensation 4Gs (both stock ICS).
This is also happening to numerous people leaving comments in the feedback section of the Play Store
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||spencerss||8/17/12 7:55 AM|
A little more detail for the reboots on the Rezound: the force reboot occurs even with GPS disabled, and happens only after some user interaction. I had Maps running for a few minutes without the phone rebooting, but it rebooted as soon as I touched the screen.

Same here. HTC Sensation with HTC Sense 3.6 and ICS. After using Maps for less than a minute, it restarts my phone.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||MedicJim||8/17/12 8:48 AM|
Same issue on my Rezound (stock running ICS). After latest update any time I open Maps or Navigation it will cause the phone to crash and reboot. On the one Android Forum I go to there are a lot of Rezound owners reporting the same issue. Once updates are unistalled it works fine. Glad I found out about this now since I work as a paramedic and I use the nav to get to to squad calls and hospitals.

Update 6.10.0 causes phone reboots on HTC Sensation running ICS. Reverted back to 6.3.0 and it's stable so far.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||paulmanta||8/17/12 12:08 PM|
HTC sensation updated to 6.10.0 maps and it is causing crashes after 30 seconds to a minute of use. If you open the Maps up and then close it yourself straightaway after the 30 seconds/minute it crashes anyway.
Also, I don't like the new way of displaying the location history, is there a way to view to graph style that was there before. I liked it better than the map overlay thing, that only does days and not a long overview with averages,
Although when it crahes you can't see the location history anyway !
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||robtpeek||8/17/12 12:08 PM|
My Samsung Galaxy S3 was just upgraded to Android 4.04 and Google Maps to 10.0.0. I'm unable to see friends or add friends. Any workaround for this?
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||msrcgr||8/17/12 12:15 PM|
Add another to the list of Rezound owners experiencing crashes in Navigation (Maps). Had to turn off auto update and uninstall updates. Works fine now. And when it crashes Bluetooth doesn't work after restart. Takes another restart (maybe full shutdown) to enable Bluetooth.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Szata76||8/17/12 1:08 PM|
After the update more things became wrong. These are the layers (mentioned by others), my position and my places buttons. I can't manage my downloaded areas in the lack of my places button.
Two updates ago I can't download Budapest, HUNGARY area for offline usage. With the old fixed-size tile download feature it was available. (Offline map not available in this area.) The other older bug is the disappearing of cached (not downloaded for offline) maps meter. Earlier it displayed the amount of data. Now I only can delete this cache.
Will these bugs and lacks be solved? When?

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||wdoa||8/17/12 4:00 PM|
HTC Sensation T-Mobile USA running stock ICS. When opening Maps and then Navigation bluetooth becomes disabled and phone reboots. Once it comes back up I have to reboot again to get the bluetooth back. Can't believe Googe let this POS get out the door. Since most of the problems seem to be occurring with HTC phones I suspect we are in for a long round of Google and HTC pointing fingers at each other. Total BS

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/18/12 3:32 AM|
NickHW, you can uninstall from play store or from managing applications, in either you should see "uninstall" or "uninstall updates".
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||NickHW||8/18/12 4:02 AM|
Thanks; it was also auto-updating itself which was causing more grief. I found a 6.9 APK and now I'm back to non-disaster mode.

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||nepeterson||8/18/12 9:35 PM|
Another Sensation 4G/ICS random reboot issue. As a side note, I put in an empty SD card and found that Navigation worked nearly flawlessly for an indefinite amount of time; which leads me to believe that there is some file (possibly in the ".android-secure" or "Android" folder) that causes the issue.
|Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||kweengee77||8/19/12 7:01 AM|
Hello. I'm sure you've seen all the complaints about this recent update for maps. I, too, am having the same rebooting issue when opening the app. (Sensation 4g with recent ICS update) I can't even tell if there are other bugs with the app since I never get a chance to open it. Are the developers aware of this? Do you know when the next update is to fix this major problem?
|Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||palsoft||8/19/12 7:23 AM|
In latitude when i click on some of my friends,the radius of their position is shown after maybe 5 seconds,while in previous versions it was instant. Can you fix it somehow?

Also having the reboot problem with 6.10 on HTC Sensation. Uninstalled updates and reverted to 6.3, which is stable. Then located a 6.9.2 apk, installed it and it's also stable.

My wife and I both have HTC Rezound phones (with ICS update) and we both have the same problem after updating google maps. Every time we try to use google maps or navigation the phone reboots. What a pain. The navigation app worked great and we both use it a lot. I hope google fixes this problem soon because we feel lost (literally) without our google maps and navigation.

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||LiSrt||8/19/12 9:24 AM|
As others have said, this update causes crashes every few minutes while using navigation (phone is HTC Sensation XE).
Please note, it is the phone, not just the app itself that crashes. Needless to say, this shouldn't even be possible - maybe an Android/hardware problem that the app has shown up?
See the reviews on Google Play for more examples.

Come on Cindy, is everyone just having a Chrome party and not able to get to this fix?
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||MartinCov||8/19/12 11:49 AM|
HTC Sensation XE - also crashes and reboots Android OS, as of Maps 6.10. Maps has become unusable. Can the Google Dev team rollback to previous version or implement an Urgent fix. Maps has become pretty much an essential app for any Smartphone!
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||ianw0000||8/19/12 5:40 PM|
My HTC Sensation started rebooting when using navigator.
I was using the Android Revolution HD Rom.
I was annoyed that this ROM would still launch the stupid bundled pay-for navigator from an appointment location, so I thought it was time to try cyanogenmod 9.0.0-pyramid as it went stable on 10th august.
I'm loving cyanogenmod, fast and clean. But alas, the phone is still rebooting in navigator making it completely useless!
Maps seem ok, it is only the navigator.
What can I do to help the developers figure out what the issue is?
Could it be the Kernel? When installing ARHD I chose the "3.0.36-g7290c7fechen@aegis-i7 #2" kernel

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||JJ1977||8/20/12 4:06 AM|
My HTC Sensation XE keeps rebooting itself after approx 2 minutes of opening this app after updating to 6.10.
I believe pleanty of other people are having this problem also.
I would like to know how long it is going to take to sort this problem out, as I regularly use this app as a sat nav (one of the main reasons I got my specific phone !!!) and it is a huge inconveinience not to have it.
I would also like to say that reporting problems to google is a very hard process to go through, I would have thought such a large company would have had a more simplified process, rather than having to do it through a forum, which you have to join first !!!
A reply would be much appreciated.

Hi, my wife & I both have Sensations (1 XE, 1 Standard) & having updated Maps to 6.10, we are both crashing out of Navigation after about 30 secs, & then the phones restart.Very annoying...will there be a fix soon??? I've seen this discussed on lots of other forums, so it's affecting many users.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Wendy998||8/20/12 9:32 AM|
From all the comments, I'd say you need to buy the right phone for this app to work perfectly. Why are you screwing around with knock-offs? Buy one of the Motorola (brand) Droids (Razr, Bionic, Droid III, etc.). Maps and Navigation work perfectly. Even with the Droid I, I had no problems. Verizon is the carrier, but that is not the issue here. It may cost a few dollars more in the beginning, but the Droids have so much more functionality than those other phones...maps, navigation, voice activation, etc....and reliability.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||munrobasher||8/20/12 10:38 AM|
Wendy - are you serious or are you really a troll? Completely useless post so please don't bother next time. Until this faulty update of Google Maps, maps & navigation (and in fact the entire phone) has been rock solid on HTC phones.

So, my wife only has an iPhone and an iPad. Latitude stopped working her (no friends and no updates from her)... I found this thread and the post from DalekV http://productforums.google.com/d/msg/maps/K4-wM3tg7s0/iUaRh6kv8UAJ
So I tried the same with her account, ie. I factory reset my Nook with CM7 and tied it to her account and then was able to reactivate her location sharing.
The iDevice app is over 6 months old so we couldn't do anything with that.
Now all seems back to normal for her.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||jmak5969||8/20/12 1:37 PM|
I just joined this Group because I Googled if there was an update or something that turned off file sharing because unfortunately I jumped to a conclusion that my son had turned it off in the middle of the night Thurs/Fri (August 17th EARLY) on purpose and he insisted I was wrong. I told him "it doesn't just get turned off on its own"! Wow, do I owe him a HUGE apology.
I am curious however, we turned his file sharing back on as of Friday, yet somehow it was off again on both his and my phones since early this morning. Did you release or modify an update that caused this occurance today? Or possibly Backitude did? We both have that app on both phones as well.
I do apologize for asking, but this teenager I have to watch and don't want to jump to any conclusions again. You know what they say about assuming...and boy was I. Thank you
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||jdw70||8/20/12 5:25 PM|
Excuse me, miss clueless. Buy the right phone? How are HTC phones running stock ICS "knock-offs"? Try getting the facts before making a fool of yourself.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||DanH2012||8/21/12 2:29 AM|
Still no fix for Google maps on HTC phones? My Maps died 2 days ago on my HTC Sensation. I suppose I'll have to learn to read a paper map again.

Hi Cindy, any chance of an update on where we are with the Sensation (and others) reboot issue, with Maps 6.10? Tia.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||sleepinglion||8/21/12 1:59 PM|
I too have the crash / reboot issue on HTC Sensation.
5 days now and still no fix?
I notice that if I try and run the maps app although it looks like it's working, the compass functionality doesn't - ie the map won't orient in the direction you're facing.
If I then exit the app before the phone reboots and launch my compass app, the compass doesn't work. I wonder if that could be a clue...
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Sherako||8/21/12 2:31 PM|
Switched from Bionic to Galaxy S3.. one of biggest things that made the Bionic so great was the Maps and navigator app that never went out and I use it daily for 3-4 hours a day.. now my areas has 4g so Bionic battery was getting sucked clean too fast so upgraded to the galaxy s3 but now the Navigator loses GPS about every 5 minutes and much of the time goes into a searching for GPS mode and I have to reset it all together.. Is this a problem with the SGS3 or did the Bionic just do this much better? Is there a way to improve it??
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||ConsulG||8/21/12 2:44 PM|
Just like to remind google about the navigation problems with samsung s3 phones. Surely there is an update imminent since its been over a month since the problem has been highlighted??? Can we have an eta???
Navigation doesnt work and neither does latitude - on a reasonably popular phone!!
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||wetdiver||8/22/12 6:28 AM|
The new version is causing reboots on 3 HTC Rezound and 1 Motorola Bionic when launched. Once you uninstall update everything is fine. This was a big let down. We are on the road all day and Google Maps is a big part of what we relay on day in and day out.

Slightly in a ranting tone but sums up the issues - http://opinions5.blogspot.in/2012/08/android-google-maps-things-broken-since.html
Hopefully Google will fix all of these.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||SanjP||8/22/12 6:59 PM|
Using Maps or Navigation will cause my Rezound on ICS to reboot and disable my bluetooth.
I found elsewhere on the net to uninstall the Maps update. This resolved my reboot issue and after a manual reboot, I am now able to enable my bluetooth again.
Please fix quickly. Navigation is a must have for most of us, something we just take for granted.

Upgraded to latest (6.10?) on my HTC Wildfire and lots of options are now missing, including 'go to current location' (fairly basic requirement!) and layers. I can only see the + and - buttons on the screen and the menu only has Search, Directions, Clear Map, Make available offline, Settings and Help. I see no way of getting any more features. Am I missing something?
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||jdw70||8/24/12 6:45 AM|
Very disappointing that Google is taking so long to resolve the 6.10 reboot issue on HTC phones. For many of us Google Maps and Nav are critical apps. This is not a toy, but something we actually depend on daily. It feels like Google is being quite negligent and unresponsive to user problems. Not a good sign.
One other issue. Offline maps are a great idea. But the inability to calculate navigation directions without an internet connection makes them close to useless. Please make this a priority in your list of enhancements. Thanks.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Surfer68||8/24/12 8:29 AM|
Absolutely, all has gone quiet on the Google front. To the users like ourselves, we can't be sure if this problem is being ignored or being addressed. Google Maps is a core product of our Android Devices and it surely can't be much good for this flagship service to be found wanting. I do hope that we get some more information very soon.

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||geoffclifton||8/24/12 6:08 PM|
HTC Sensation ICS Sense 3.6
I have done this to reinstall the previous stable v6.9
On the phone, go to Google Play-settings and uncheck automatic update. Exit.
Main menu-settings-All Apps-Maps clear data and uninstall updates.
This should revert to the version that came with the phone. For me it's 6.3.
Search for and download Maps v6.9 APK.
Use a file browser to locate and execute (install) it.
Ignore any Maps update notifications until we know it is fixed.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Chriswwwww||8/25/12 2:52 AM|
Same issue on HTC Sensation ICS. Navigation crashes phone within 30s of starting every time it us used.
Revert to Factory works but only after I have had time to research and discover this is a know bug - not use when trying to drive.
So wonder why Google is still pushing Maps as an Editor's Choice in the Play Store when it crashes our phones.

That's a good point. Google needs to remove the update until it is resolved

|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||paulmanta||8/26/12 11:39 AM|
What will happen is what always happens when Google have a problem.
You must sort it out on your owna nd in a few months when 6.10.1 comes out it might have been fixed but they will have removed some more features users like and then another thread like this will fire up.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/26/12 4:13 PM|
For those of you looking for a solution please read this thread, the workaround has been mentioned bunch of times, you have to uninstall the update and go back to the old version
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||sleepinglion||8/26/12 4:19 PM|
Yeah it's been mentioned a bunch of times. Point is it's a workaround, not a solution! And so far, 10 days down the track and zip zero nada from Google.
I used to think it was only Apple who treated their users like this. Seems Google is just as bad. Anyone surprised?

Another "me too" on the immediate crash/reboot issue with Google Maps. I have a Rezound and am running ICS. The issue only happened after I got the ICS upgrade.
I NEED my navigation/maps back!!

I have to say it has been 10 days and I'm a little bit disappointed but lets be a little bit more understanding and see what happens, not like there's anything else we can do.

The My Location and Layers button are not visible in the search bar on the HTC Wildfire (320x240 resolution). The application is severely crippled by this. Please investigate ASAP!

I've got a different problem than others so far reported (that I can tell anyway). With my HTC Incredible (android version 2.3.4) I see the data for maps (ver. 6.10) go from 0 (after a clear data) to 5.7MB without using the app. This causes the Incredible to display "low on storage" and I yet again have to clear data on maps so that sync will work. Not a crash, but still a pain. Maybe the excessive memory usage is what's causing the crash on other android versions/phones???

I have the Verizon HTC Rezound and ever since the update I can't use Maps or Navigation any more. It keeps turning off my phone. How do I report this problem so it can be fixed? Any ideas on when there will be a new update to fix the problem?
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/27/12 3:00 PM|
mlbren14, read this thread, both your questions have been answered many times

I was having the problem with my HTC Sensation just switching off and rebooting when I used the latest update of Maps, 6.10 I think, I see a number of other users were having the same problem when I uninstalled the latest updates then Maps worked fine. I have just updated this morning after reading the above and my phone is turning off again when using Maps
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||dst4||8/28/12 1:17 PM|
Not I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say reading the above cuz nothing is changed so if you install the update you have the same exact problem again
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||paulmanta||8/28/12 1:45 PM|
The update has still not had its bugs fixed so you will be downloading the same set of problems if you put it back on the phone.
I went into Apps and reset the app to the version that came with the phone, it works well again but has lots of the features missing.
A big shame that Google have maintained their usual silence over this, I expect the thread will get closed down soon or marks "solved" like other similar problem threads I have been involved with over the last few years.
It s a shame but it seems they either are bad at communication or they just dont care.

Same issue with my HTC Rezound ICS update. I have uninstalled the updates and it works fine without crashing. . Please fix this issue asap as I love the new updates and its very helpful.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Rat666||8/29/12 1:51 AM|
Ditto. If you have a HTC wildfire do not install this update. Close to unusable. There is no access to layers or my location that i can find. The only way to see where you are is to zoom right out. I made the mistake of having to find this out while lost in the middle of open countryside. there was a lot of cursing.

+1 for Rezound ICS issues. When will an update be available? My phone is constantly saying I have application updates since I reverted back to stock - I can't believe a batch of code was released that works so horribly!
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||munrobasher||8/29/12 10:19 AM|
@mustangz5 - upside of Android is lots of different handset choices. Downside of this is much harder to test
everything everywhere. What's not acceptable though is not reverting back to previous version whilst they sort
out the bug... one uninstalls back to factory setting (very old) and have no easy way of upgrading to the version
before last :-(

As some of you have noticed, the 6.11 update of Google Maps for mobile has resolved the HTC reboot issue and the missing layers issue. Thank you all for your reports and patience, it really helped our team push out a quick fix.

Daniel.M - seems it isn't entirely fixed for HTC Velocity :(
Installed 6.11 today, and had a reboot after using for 30 secs. I went ahead and cleared stopped and cleared data, and then tried again and still got a reboot. Noticed that if I open maps and don't interact with touch, I get no reboot, but touching and moving the tiles around causes a reboot every time within 30 secs. Took a logcat, and didn't see anything obvious - can send if needed/wanted... until then have rolled back

6.11 has fixed the reboot on my 4g HTC SENSATION. I had to refresh update page, download and BAM it worked. Thanks for brilliant effort, many thanks from new Orleans. By the way, hurricane Isaac has worn me out!!!

Same problem until I cleared data and manually rebooted. OK at the moment.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||DJRADEON||8/29/12 4:47 PM|
You need to reboot after update to 6.11 after reboot new version working fine and street view too. Thanks Daniel and entire google maps team.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||mentcy||8/29/12 5:27 PM|
Fraid not... :)
OK.. for troubleshooting purposes, here is what I have tried;
As suggested, did a clear data and reboot before install. Installed new version (6.11.1) and immediately did a full reboot (i.e power off completely).
No luck with that approach, got the same reboot after using for around 30 secs.
Did a another reboot and wiped dalvik cache this time, after restart seemed to take longer than 30 secs before reboot, but definitely got a reboot again.
Tried removing maps altogether, and pushing 6.11.1 as a system app with correct permissions and another dalvik cache wipe - no luck.
Anyway, am on ICS on Telstra HTC Velocity 4G - yes rooted, but I think you'd agree the troubleshooting implies a problem.

This is also happening to me. Samsung Conquer 4g. It seems that it resets my phone when it loses contact with the GPS satellite. I hope this gives you guys some clues as to why its happening.

My Samsung Mesmerize on US CELLULAR 2.3.4 just locks up when the google navigation beta screen comes on. Regardless of how many times I try. This started recently...possibly from the last maps update. Any idea how I can get this working again?

Cindy, when my boyfriend and I updated to this version people we had deleted came back. . Why would this have happened? ? He had his ex on there, as I did, we deleted her, and agree updating she came back. .I got rid of her, but he had to block her.
|Re: Google Maps for Android - 6.10 update||Chuckg7KC||1/24/13 9:18 PM|
I have only had my Android phone for a few months (Samsung Galaxy S3) and one thing I have not been able to find any way to do is to have either of my navigation programs change to send the audio to my Bluetooth headset. Sometimes the traffic noise is just too much and even with the phone voume all the way up It is hard to hear the directions. (I was always able to do this with my old Blackberry Curve).
Please let me know - is it a simple fix I just haven't found yet, or is it not possible to do (and if so that is really too bad and sad.)
thank you for any assistance you can provide.
