I can't seem to find the Distance Measurement Tool when using the new Google Maps. Does anyone know where to find this feature?
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||treebles||5/21/13 4:05 PM|
The Distance measurement Tool is part of Maps Labs, which has not been implemented yet in the new Maps.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Emil Grama||6/19/13 4:22 AM|
The distance measuring tool is a very useful feature.
I like the new maps, but I will stay with the old maps until this feature is implemented.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Glen Balog||6/28/13 3:36 AM|
Like wise. For me it was one of the more useful features of Maps.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||lee spooner||6/28/13 1:38 PM|
Yea is the main reason i use maps, to plan my cycling routes. The mobile version on my phone and nexus even has elevation profiles as well, desktop doesn't seem to have that feature though
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Jan Hilhorst||7/2/13 9:36 AM|
@Lee Spooner. Me too. I would also love a feature that would record the height profile of a ride
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Daniel Boullosa Perez||7/10/13 9:31 AM|
We would like to see this feature as production feature, because is the main reason I use Maps to planify routes aereal and terrestial.

Doh! How do I downgrade to the old maps? Also, any ETA for labs features?

Yikes! The ruler, a tool used by many of us to measure distances on the previous version of Google Maps is G-O-N-E ?! Why does it seem like everything Google is doing involves TAKING THINGS away?!? I feel like a pawn in some labor strife where someone else decides what the little people like, need, and use! PLEASE BRING THE RULER BACK! I guess I will go BACKWARDS to the old version for now, and a visit to BING" is certainly in the future. Maybe they'll have it or at least add one!
Google, don't forget, you need a RULER to RULE THE WORLD ....
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||barryhunter||7/15/13 5:18 AM|
Click the link in the Gear icon top right to revert to Classic.
There is also a link at the bottom of the Invite email
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||wb1dby||7/17/13 3:21 PM|
I have to agree. I use the measurement tool very often when planning a trip or doing research and it's very useful. Please add it to the main screen on the new Google Maps.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Jayden Lawson||7/18/13 2:08 AM|
No ruler = no new maps for me. Back to Classic.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||olivier evesque||7/18/13 9:33 AM|
Back to classic too.
I'm starting to be fed up by all the usefull stuff Google stops. (Igoogle, Reader, now the ruler, next year: Gmail ?)
And by the way, this new google maps is really really slow.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Bama John||7/19/13 10:39 AM|
Just adding my voice to the others - I NEED to measure... wonder if Bing maps has this? I love Google stuff but this is really strange that they would leave out something they had to know how many of us used.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||barryhunter||7/20/13 1:22 PM|
You know you can just use Classic - that has the tool.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||b77||7/22/13 10:12 AM|
The only reason for the existence of Google Maps is so They can help you tell Them where exactly you live, where you go, who you're facking with. And if possible, why.
Google map users do not need to have their lives complicated by such difficult things as distance measurements (I'm not even sure I spelled that correctly, I should better use the great Google spell checker for that, which is included in the genuinely original Google Chrome).
So, all insignificant users shall be happy with their (free!) status of Google ants, ready to swallow all the (free!!!) Google Ads and produce Google Income for the benefit of the great Google Company.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||b77||7/22/13 10:16 AM|
Shall I mention that my previous post has been swiftly deleted, without any explanation or warning, for I have inadvertently typed the letter U in the word "facking". Don't I love the freedom of expression that the great Google Company gives me for free !!
Long leave Google !
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Walking Grand Rapids||7/22/13 5:43 PM|
The Distance Measuring Tool is the only way I have found to track my miles as I walk every street in Grand Rapids. Please, Google, do not take away the distance measuring tool until I have finished my walks!
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||uninhabited||7/23/13 2:27 AM|
Absurd that the Distance Measuring Tool is part of Maps Labs. We're not asking for turn-by-turn traffic-jam-avoiding route navigation which optimizes for scenic views and coffee stops while calculating your carbon footprint - just the distance between two points whose coordinates are inherently known. And then a 3rd point etc. I returned after a month or so to try New Maps. Hit a webGl error, the distance tool still isn't here and so am giving up on 'New Maps' until 2014. Might have a look at Bing

Same here. It helps me figure out how far my runs are.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||jpmcgee||7/26/13 3:07 PM|
Adding my voice to others here. Think of the runners, Google. Especially the poorer ones that don't have GPS watches.
The tool works so well on Classic - seems like it'd be an easy thing to integrate into the new digs (which I otherwise like a lot).
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Line_in_the_sand||7/27/13 11:40 AM|
What?!?! Measuring distance is one of the most basic reasons to have a map. I found it suspicious that it was available under labs before; as though they were saying that it is experimental to be able to measure distance between two or more points.
When anyone looks at a map they begin asking questions:
1. Where am I?
2. Where is my destination? There could be more then one destination.
3. How do I get there?
4. How far is it? Both by the route and straight line distance are helpful.
I need an electronic piece of string to map my own route and measure the distance.
Any map that doesn't answer these basic questions isn't much of a map.
I would draw a line in the sand, but I can't do that anymore,
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Joe M.||7/27/13 7:35 PM|
One of the first things I tried was distance measurement, which is no longer there in New Google Maps. What is the mentality behind adding gee-whiz features like 3D buildings, yet not having basic core map features like distance measurement?
Then I tried Street View. It won't show what streets are mapped in Street View, so it becomes a tedious, trial-and-error process of clicking and trying. Old Maps would outline all the mapped streets in blue. Also on New Maps, if it drops into Street View, the map thumbnail is so small you can't see where you are. Old Maps would optionally show 1/2 the screen as map and 1/2 as Street View. No apparent way to do that on New Maps.
Disgusted, I then switched back to the old maps program, and tried to fill out the survey. It would not connect. Survey is broken, just like New Google Maps.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Michiel Oosterhagen||8/2/13 1:07 AM|
No distance tool -> "classic maps" for me. A great omission from Google! And I can't understand why they rolled out such an update when there's actually a decline in features? Maps is looking like Google loses its edge. The satellite images where I live are already 7 years old! Bing maps has more actual imagery and delivers better features.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Stefano Baroni||8/3/13 1:13 AM|
Same for me here. "no ruler, no party" ...
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Larry Humphries||8/5/13 7:28 AM|
Yikes, no ruler with elevation profiles and you can't save offline maps! (Though there is a quirky hidden method for saving only one offline map). What were they thinking? Is this some sort of an insane competition with Apple maps for failed release of new mapping software?
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Greg Hahn||8/8/13 7:37 AM|
Most of you guys are wrong, you can definitely measure TRAVEL distance with the new Google maps.
1. Click a point on the map where you want to begin. You may have to click it twice. A "beacon"type dot will appear near where you clicked, and an address for that dot will appear in the upper left corner.
2. Click the "Get directions arrow" to the right of that address which appeared. A new box will appear above it for the otehr endpoint of your travel.
3. Click the map again at your desired destination. It populates the new box automatically with the second address.
4. You will instantly see the distance. You can the select car, bike, or walking, and manipulate the route. The distance updates as you change routes.
What I CANNOT find is a way to measure a straight line- the distance as a crow flies, which is very useful to me as an engineer. I guess I have to wait for the Map Labs on that one.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||DJ Kinney||8/19/13 2:54 PM|
I went back to the old without hesitation. People in NYC and San Francisco and other metropoli forget that the majority of users live in places where all of their flashy UI improvements lime 3D buildings and whatever are useless. Measurement was useful. They were almost certainly thinking "Hey! But now it does it automatically with directions!" But guess what. Some people live in a world not strictly navigated by urban blocks.

Once again, google rolls out a re-do of a good product, and makes it almost unusable!! The new maps seems designed more for adverts than for user friendliness. |Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||nowwatch||8/31/13 7:35 PM|
Google, are you listening to this request? Maps are ideal for planning routes and the distance info is crucial. I made the mistake of using the new map and wasting an hour mapping out a ride to find the distance, then I discovered this issue. Please, at least, provide a convert to classic mode option. You have handicapped a key feature of user generated maps for many people. No response since May says you're not paying attention or not interested. Any response would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Jim Grau||9/1/13 7:39 AM|
I'll say it again: if you are looking to plan a ride, http://ridewithgps.com/ works much better than Google Maps ever did. It uses all of Google's database, but with a much better interface for planning rides. But I certainly agree that New Google Maps should add back the measuring tool -- I've just never used it for that purpose after discovering RideWithGPS.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Kevin Blum||9/17/13 8:33 PM|
How many complaints is it going to take for Google to figure it out?? I used to rely on the distance measure tool for my job as a firefighter/paramedic when it came to figuring out the mileage from the scene to the hospital for our ambulance reports..many times people would forget to set the trip odometer so this feature was great, you could create your route and figure out the exact mileage instead of typing in two addresses and having to pick one of the "suggested" routes. Google maps had this feature 3 years back when I bought my first android and I loved it, then it dissapeared for a few years, then it came back again recently..and now its gone..AGAIN. WTF google, LISTEN TO YOUR USERS and take our advice!! Bring back the f*cking measure tool!!!
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||DJ Kinney||9/17/13 10:11 PM|
Dude...they don't even read this. Get real. And as far as their "users" just remember that their users are always advertisers. Everything else is incidental.

I'm using somethign called "area calculator" but it is not ideal for the purpose (measuring distances, flexibly)
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Pierre91||9/18/13 2:45 AM|
I just installed the last maps release on my android phone this morning: The rule appears on the lower right corner only when zooming and is displayed only 1 second, then disappears... So, it is fully unusable.
So, i am very curious about the powerfull brain who is able to display a rule only when nobody is checking it and give no possibility to get it displayed in parameters. Near fantastic, another galaxy understanding, maybe...
Hi Google, could you just reverse the rule display and it will be near perfect: Don't display when zooming, then display stable after zooming action.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||peter b is taken||10/3/13 3:50 PM|
distance measurement is embedded in the directions tool -- click a starting point -- then an ending point -- adjust the route to mode of transport, and drag route to an alternative route as needed. The directions tool shows the distance and estimated time. I was able to use this tool to show the distance of walking on pedestrian walkways along False Creek in Vancouver.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||DJ Kinney||10/3/13 4:16 PM|
Don't you think we know that? Don't be dumb. We want linear measurement that doesn't rely on a walking path. Or any path. For architecture...like "how big is that house or property" or for marine navigation, like "how wide is that river."
It must have something to do with the license they had from the startup they bought/borrowed/stole it from.

I agree I think it's time for Google to go the way of the dodo. They can't create a functional chat client anymore, the web browser is trash and now they broke their maps... I just don't understand what happened... Google used to be my most beloved company and is quickly becoming my most despised. Google if you are reading this stop destroying your products they were perfect before and now they are all terrible. I see no improvements in the new versions of maps, hangouts or chrome. They are all hindrances and make my life more difficult and less productive. I am happy to say Firefox does not have any of the other issues that Chrome seems to be plagued with.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Donald Lee||10/25/13 9:17 AM|
mapometer.com is even better. Thanks!
I need to measure "as the crow flies". That is, not following the terrain/elevation.
Their interface is very good. Would be even nicer if they supported yards and feet, not just miles (eliminate the extra conversion step).
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||akrbt||10/25/13 9:41 AM|
Thank you Donald and Tim-- those are great-- they seem like some sort of overlay app on top pf the regular classic google maps.. and the elevation data is great also.
I wonder will they work when google dumps classic maps? Hopefully they will allow third party overlays like this to still function. Seems so obvious to include this in their maps program and app, but they seem so beholden to the android mobile phone market now, and their new maps app and program seem really geared towards showing advertising.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Bryan Von Reuter||10/26/13 12:38 PM|
I've figured out a workaround: If you've created a line in the new version of Maps, select the line in My Maps and export a .kml file.. Then choose 'Or create with Classic Maps' which is underneath the "Create Map" button. Import the .kml you've just created.. It's a little annoying but until the new maps goes out of beta it's a decent workaround. Seriously baffled that this functionality is missing from a public version of Maps. Total nonsense.

You can enable the distance measurement tool in Settings > Labs in v6. Obvisouly not possible in v7.
No version AFAIK can export the line.

Follow the money! If you go into the new maps and click on my places and then click the gear icon you will be offered the "oppertunity" to upgrade to maps pro for only $5 / month. All of the "advanced" drawing features (like ruler) you knew and lived are available there.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||thetechfirm||11/9/13 3:42 AM|
I'm giving up on google and have found many alternative sites and apps that are just as good.
I'm using http://gb.mapometer.com/ for my route planning for my runs.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Kerry Maxwell||11/11/13 8:43 PM|
This may be the "best" answer, but it is a maddening and absurd answer. It's been months now and one of the most basic and useful functions of Google Maps is still not implemented in the "new" Maps. It's a completely WTF?! situation. It's really not an answer at all. It's a question, and the question is "Are you effing kidding me?".
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||barryhunter||11/12/13 2:48 AM|
Just because you dont like or dont agree with the answer, does not make it any less than being the only real answer there is.
Whats the rush anyway? Surely its better that Google takes their time and gets it 'right', rather than rush it and make a bodge job.
Its hardly a hardship that these features are not in preview yet, as Classic is still available. Nothing has been taken away.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Manzino||11/15/13 1:44 PM|
Not true, barryhunter. In Android, those of us that started with the new Google Maps cannot use the classic Maps app without considerable effort to sideload it. We're basically SOL until Google decides to add the feature to the new Maps app, if ever.
Not to keep playing devil's advocate, but the converse of what you stated about Google getting it right can be used to attack Google's premature switch to the new version before getting all the features worked out, including distance measuring...
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||barryhunter||11/15/13 2:14 PM|
Well this thread is talking about the desktop version.
On mobile it's kinda messed up. Sort of proves the point, on mobile they did 'rush' the update, pushed it out before it was ready. Built it in private without much user input.
On desktop get to try out the future version, before its 'released'. And still use Classic in the meantime.

I don't know- I was pretty disgusted by them dropping the little distance lab's tool, but in reality, now that I have seen people's alternatives like Mapometer for PCs and Planimeter for android phones I just don't see the problem.. Google is doing their thing (sell ads) and providing a free navigation tool as part of that.. lucklily they make their base map program available for all of these third party apps and programs.. the labs distance tool was crap anyways.
Mapometer and Planimeter are also free and have much much better interfaces and are built around distance measuring, not around navigation and ads, but they use Google maps as a base...I am sure Google will buy one of them out and add all that to Maps directly, but then you will have Google's new horrible interface they keep minimizing and making generic across all of their apps..

Since this was originally posted, returning to classic maps has moved from the gear to the '?' help icon in the lower left.

Oops - the help icon is lower right...sorry

Go to Chrome and download chrome extension for google maps - it has the measurement tool (yay!) https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tools-for-google-maps/eljpanecjjlonmoiofelcmkkpojcalcb?hl=en

I echo the sentiment that the distance measurement tool needs to be brought into the new maps.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Mathew Berecry||12/8/13 9:59 PM|
I don't understand why this is even an issue. Who takes a product like Google maps and says we're going to improve it by taking away core features?! The best part is that I just updated android and now I can't even revert the app back far enough to a classic version that has labs.

In maps today you have the possibility to search for routes using car, public transport, bicycle and walk.
Wouldn't the easy solution for you +Google to implement a Distance Measure tool be to expand the search possibilities with a 'direct path' as well? Could be an arrow-symbol or something similar.

|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Zefeng Gao||1/2/14 11:54 PM|
An extension or addon called 'Tools for Google Maps' on www.gmaptool.com provide Distance Measurement feature.
You can have a try!
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Avinash Ahire||1/23/14 4:24 AM|
Actually G-maps is already providing distance measurement tool with some advance features. Only need to do is have to go for get directions and then type whatever we want on starting and ending points. Then we can change the starting and ending points by dragging them. We can see the distance in not just km. or m. but also through walk, bus and train also. It is also providing the city buses number facilities for some areas.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Eirik Milch Gebhardt||1/23/14 4:32 AM|
Indeed, and it is in this tool I propose to have a 'direct path' that gives the distance in air from A to B.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Mathew Berecry||1/23/14 8:18 AM|
I'm not sure that the last few posters realise this thread is/was about the mobile app. As the solutions they offer are only available for the browser based version on maps.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||treebles||1/23/14 10:33 AM|
This post is about the browser-based version on the desktop since that was the question about by the person that originally posted the question.
The categories at the top indicate also that the question is about the browser-based version of the new Maps

You're totally right, my bad. Was following a couple threads on this topic and miss spoke/posted.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||SevenCell||2/9/14 9:17 PM|
Everyone on this forum is talking about straight-line distance. Everyone knows how to use Google to get directions. There are hundreds of reasons people want straight-line distances on maps. For every 1 person who complains about it here, there are thousands of users who would prefer it and want it. Google is simply ignoring these people...over months and months. What a crying shame.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||SevenCell||2/9/14 9:37 PM|
Map labs now seems to have been implemented in the New Google Maps (with the old ruler that was so awesome), but it it somewhat hidden...just a little. If users click on the gear icon, and then click on "my places," a new "My Places" panel appears. At the bottom of this panel is a link to Map Labs. If you have already implemented the ruler in the past, you may need to turn the ruler off and back on. Seems to be working for me perfectly in the New Google Maps as of 2/10/2014. I was very disturbed they had taken this feature away; but it appears at least 32,000 people have searched this question. Please post this solution anywhere you think appropriate. I found one user suggesting the gear and "my places" but only to point out google asking for some sort of upgrade...no map labs. But I am seeing map labs on mine now. I can't find anyone else posting this "my places" solution...yet it is working beautifully for me and thousands of people are researching this. No addons (besides old map labs). No apps, free or otherwise, to install. Nothing besides the old tried and true, awesome ruler. Just seems to have been hidden.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||SevenCell||2/9/14 9:39 PM|
Try this and spread the word: New Google Maps >> Gear Icon >> My Places >> "Map Labs" should now be at the bottom of the "My Places" tab. Go into Map Labs just like before. You may have to turn the ruler off and back on the first time.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Jesse G. Brough||2/12/14 9:03 AM|
I also will be staying with the old Google Maps until the distance and measuring tool is included. I used it very often to measure landscape features for my landscape business. It would be great if they include an area tool as well so that I don't need to use a 3rd party website. Right now I'm using http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-area-calculator-tool.htm to do my measurements. It works well, but would love it if Google incorporated this feature into their page.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||VTProjects||2/12/14 9:19 AM|
Take a look at Planimeter app on Google Play. The app does all kinds of measurements (distance, area, perimeter, bearing) on Google Maps and has many useful features and positive feedback from users in different areas.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||mstavros||2/12/14 10:44 PM|
Distance measurement is extremely important to me. Please implement it in the new Maps.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Dave365||2/17/14 5:36 AM|
Gear Icon >> My Places >> "Map Labs" at the bottom of My Places tab (very tiny text link) works for me SevenCell. Thanks for the info!
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||skinsail||2/18/14 9:24 AM|
it seems google doesn't like their users :( its similar with the year view in gcalender. G just don't want it there, we will not have it! bastards :(
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||CS Pang||2/20/14 7:10 PM|
This has been removed in the new map, which is why I am still resisting to use the new map.
Google does have great and innovative products. But the whole packaging together needs more work.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||mstavros||2/20/14 7:17 PM|
skinsail, you should demand your money back. If you haven't paid anything, then just be grateful.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||rollingreenhills||2/21/14 2:58 AM|
Yes please bring back measure tool.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||SevenCell||2/21/14 8:02 AM|
In the new Google maps: If you click on the gear link in the lower right, and then click on "My Places", map labs is available at the bottom of the appearing panel on the left. The measuring tool is still there, although you may have to go into map labs and toggle it off, save, and toggle back on and save.

And on Android 4.3, the lower right have the "my position" icon...
The problem is mainly for those devices that we are bringing anywhere... Another trick? :-)
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Owen Stamm||2/21/14 10:29 AM|
I did that and did not find the tool once I got back into new map. When I click on my places, it reverts to classic map...is there something I'm missing?
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Beth Mazur||2/21/14 2:00 PM|
As others note, it's not in new Google Maps (yet). Here's how to switch back to Classic and tell Google you want the ruler back!
Switch back to the old version permanently
If you want, you can also go back to the old version:

Its been 10 months since the beta was live. Is the measuring took back yet by chance?
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||rollingreenhills||2/24/14 12:16 PM|
Come on slow-gle, get a move one, thousands of people need to measure stuff! What gives? I might actually have to go outside and measure something at this rate!
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Kristi Connolly||2/26/14 11:27 AM|
In that case, I abandon the new Maps for as long as I am able. The Labs features should have been rolled into the actual Maps system long ago. New Maps too slow thanks to loading 3D by default, anyway.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Pete-o-pete||2/27/14 9:47 AM|
True. This is due to the fact, that it's mandatory for the people at google, to mess at least one thing up, and keep it that way, in each of their otherwise great products.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||jtan163||3/2/14 4:44 PM|
Google - you're becoming like Facebook - making apparently random changes without thought or consideration for your users.
The distance tool is kinda handy for what a lot of people do.
The route tool is useful too, but the distance it provides is not always useful and the route selected is not always optimal.
Do you think after having a tools from labs - i.e. beta that after say 5 years(? not sure how long maps has been out) it *might* just might be be migrated to prod?
Seriously at what point do features actually become part of the product - you do support a lot of users so the bugs should be found faster - your beta testing periods should be shorter - not longer.
FFS google get brave - leave the beta stage - stand up and proudly say "This is our product - it is a release version with a version > 0.99z and we have the 'nads to stand behind it. It might not be perfect, but we''ll fix bugs, when they are reported.".
OWN your product.
Srsly take ownership.

Got an email from Brian McClendon about the new maps. Did any of you? I replied to him, and got this generic response, with a link for you to provide feedback. I recommend we all provide feedback!!
Thanks for your email. Unfortunately, we're unable to monitor replies to this email. But if you have something you'd like to tell us, please let us know through this form: http://goo.gl/NY5BKT
We read all the feedback.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||K Walke||3/4/14 8:17 AM|
To pull up a measurement right click anywhere on Google Map pick "directions from here" then right click again at other end of your request and pick "directions to here" new window will open with distance near the bottom. No where near perfect but can give you and estimate at least.
|Re: New Google Maps Distance Measurement Tool||Anthony Salvo||3/8/14 7:01 PM|
This is an embarrassment and google should be ashamed of forcing out a half baked product. After years of happily using google maps, I would recommend Bing! maps, which still has a measure tool, and has much more powerful features like marking areas, boxes, and trails.

Select 'Help' (Question mark icon in the lower right corner of new Google Maps) and select 'Return to Classic Google Maps'
If that doesn't work, then try this link:
That should give you the classic view.
