|Distance shows high while other apps like GPS Essentials show accurate distance||rogers55||6/28/12 4:45 PM|
I'm trying to use My Tracks when hiking, but the distance (and related stats like speed) read between 30% and 50% high when compared to readings on my Garmin hiking GPS and distances published on trail maps. When I use the "GPS Essentials" app on the same phone, on the same hike, and with the phone in the same position on my body, GPS Essentials comes up with distance stats that are within 5% of the reading on my Garmin GPS and on the trail maps.So I don't think the problem is a limitation of the GPS in my phone.
So what am I doing wrong? Everybody loves My Tracks. It gets such great reviews and high ratings. I really like its features. But it seems unusable to me with the statistics being so inaccurate. Given how popular this app is, it would seem like I am doing something wrong. I've tried adjusting the GPS Accuracy and Time Interval settings within My Tracks, but this has not helped.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I am running the current version of My Tracks on an LG Optimus V phone, which uses Android 2.2.2.

A lot of people have said that they always get high results when using MyTracks. I don't know the details, but my impression from looking through these forums is that this is a recurring issue. I've had the problem too, though not to the degree as you report.
