|Show me how to delete photos in INSTANT UPLOAD||Anthony S||8/2/12 9:40 AM|
I have been searching for months to find out how to delete photos in "INSTANT UPLOADS".
I start by opening Google+ on my iPhone. I select the menu icon in the top left of the screen. I select Photos. Then INSTANT UPLOADS.
Now, I see a gallery of photos organized by date.
(1) There's a share icon on the top right. When I select that, it turns to green and says SHARE. Now, when I click on an image, it has a check mark. When I click on SHARE, I see the dialog to share this photo on Google+. This can't be right.
(2) If I select an image form the gallery, it appears full screen. If I swipe left and right I can go through my images. If I touch the full screen image again it goes back to the gallery.
WHERE IS THE DELETE??
This function used to exist and now its gone. PLEASE HELP. I feel like I'm the only person complaining about this so I must be missing something.

I guess I can't edit a post? I wanted to add my Google+ version.

Hi Anthony S,
At this time, it's not possible to delete Instant Upload photos from your iPhone. You can, however, delete these photos using your computer. Just visit Google+ on the web and navigate to Photos>Instant Upload, where you can select multiple photos and click Delete to remove them from your Instant Upload album.
I hope this helps!

Thanks Sky. I greatly appreciate someone finally acknowledging this.
It's really perplexing that this feature did in fact exist before and was removed the same week that Apple finally included this function in their Photo Stream. As much as iPhone users complained about not being able to delete photos, I don't see how anyone at Google thought this was a good thing.

Hi again Anthony S,
No problem - apologies for the delay in getting an answer. I've made the team aware of this gap in functionality and hope to have a fix for you in a future version of the app.

Sky, if I may ask, why isn't there a possibility to erase all pictures in my instant upload folder (which isn't a folder I guess) in one swift move?
All other albums can be deleted quickly, should I choose to do so, but the instant upload is driving many people nuts with its lack of this function. Please add this simple thing to the UI!

It is absolute BS that Google+ automatically turns on Instant Upload, under the auspices of requesting access to Location Services. And there's no way to easily delete the hundreds of photos you uploaded from my phone before I caught this? I deleted my Google+ profile, which assured me that ALL content would be deleted. But guess what? It's not. It's still there, and still no easy way to delete them all! How F-ing crappy of you Google! So, after over 7 years using Gmail, most of that using and recommending Google Apps to clients, friends, and family, I am done with Google. I'll find a new host for my email, calendar, etc.

Thank you so much!!! I was looking for how to do this! Thanks!

Hi Scott Gardner,
I'm sorry to hear that this feature left you so unhappy with Google. To clarify, you can enable Location Services in the iOS app without turning on Instant Upload, as Instant Upload has its own opt-in page (seen below):
You can delete the contents of your Instant Upload album anytime in Google+ by navigating to the Photos destination, clicking and dragging around the photos in the album, and selecting Delete. These photos can also be deleted from Picasa Web Albums. Deleting your Google+ profile deletes a great deal of the content associated with the account, but as explained in the downgrade flow, photos are not included:
I sincerely hope this helps. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Please clarify that deleting photos from instant upload is ONLY possible from a computer and NOT the iOS application. This feature did exist in the past but was removed without any reason given.
|Re: Show me how to delete photos in INSTANT UPLOAD||Anthony S||10/1/12 12:18 PM|
I also noticed that you can't download / save any photos from Google+ for iOS to your phone. Should I start a new topic for that?

Hi Anthony S,
That's correct - as I said earlier in this thread, it isn't currently possible to delete photos from the Instant Upload album using the iOS application. To clarify, this feature has not yet been implemented - we didn't remove it.
Downloading photos in the iOS app would be better addressed in a separate thread. That said, the team is aware that this is a popular request.

Well that's interesting. You most certainly were able to delete photos from Instant Upload when Google+ for iOS launched. Then, less than a week after Apple enabled deleting photos from Photo Stream, Google+ released an update that deleted this function. So, I've been begging to get this turned back on since March 2012.

Hi Jason Y.,
If you've deleted the contents of your Instant Upload album online, but the folder on your mobile device still contains photos, you may be viewing cached images. Try refreshing the Instant Upload album. If you still see these photos, try opening your device settings and navigate to Settings>Apps>Google+, where you can clear your app data. Let me know if this resolves your problem.
