IOS 8 Gmail Password Double Authentication Issue andres.dja 24/09/14 08:42
I recently upgraded to the new iPhone 6 and restored my phone from an iCloud backup. However, my gmail account keeps asking for a password. I typed in my normal gmail password and it didn't work. Then I realized that i had double authentication enabled for my account. I deleted the gmail account on the phone and started over. When I added the account again i used a generated password for Apps, Clicked save, and it showed check marks and google verified that everything was good. However, 5 seconds later i get a "Password Incorrect" pop up on my phone thats asking me to enter the Gmail account password. I've tried my normal password, my generated password, and every other password that i can think of and nothing seems to work.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks for posting with us!

If you're running into any errors when you set up your account on your phone, please follow the instructions below:
  1. Open Gmail from a browser and only sign into the account you're trying to add. Be sure to be signed out of all your other accounts
  2. Go to this link: https://accounts.google.com/b/0/displayunlockcaptcha and click Continue.
  3. Add your account to your phone with a new application specific password.
If that isn't working, you may also need to enable Access for less secure apps. That option is found on your Security page of your Google account, under "Access for less secure apps."

Let us know if these options don't work for some reason.

Worked on my iPad too. Thanks! Funny thing is that I went into Security updates first and forgot to revoke access for the old account, don't know if that was it or not, but your advice worked and it is much appreciated.

I have tried what you suggested here, and I still cannot get my Google mail on my iphone 6.
- I used my chrome browser to go to the link you have specified.
- I have deleted the profile.
- Created a new Exchange account for Google Mail
- I used an App Specific password for Mail on iphone, and used that 16 char password for my google mail.
- It all checked OK, and moved forward during account creation process.
- But the new account would not download any mail, nor would it send any mail.

I repeated the process multiple times. Even used a different browser (safari) to visit that link, and then recreated my Gmail account. nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Matt,
I am in the same boat as Masoud.  I did all of the same things but my Iphone 6 still won't download any of my mail even though it is now showing as an active account in my settings.  Please help!
