I am able to send messages but cannot download incoming mail, on the iMac but can on android phone , iPad and work computer(hp). The "connection doctor" in Apple Mail shows an intact connection to smtp, but gives the error message: "Trying to log in to this Gmail IMAP account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct." The user name and password are absolutely correct, and I have no problem accessing Gmail via the web or my android phone. I have checked and double checked all of the settings, and they match Gmail/Apple's recommended settings, but still not working. A "telnet" test said "connected to gmail-imap.l.google.com." To do that:
However, if you use 2 step verification on your GMail account, don't forget that you will also need an application specific password for your client/device. See http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1173270 for how to do that If none of these suggestions solve the problem, make sure your client or device is not checking your account more often than once every 10-15 minutes. Over-frequent access will generate repeated requests for your password and could cause rejection of your log-in. See the reference |
