|WHY do I keep getting this random blank page?||six-h||11/16/12 12:49 PM|
Without any input from me, I keep getting a blank page that just says:-
"Copyright 2002 - 2012 Google Inc."
Which comes up in a new window.
Copying and pasting the Address bar string into "Whois" just tells me it's not a valid address.
Someone tell me how to stop it!
I have found similar requests on these pages but for some reason I am prevented from adding my own post.
One solution proposed that I should click on the "Basic HTML" link at the bottom of my Gmail Inbox.......there is no "Basic HTML" link there!!!

I'm getting this very same thing. It only happens in IE with my work email though (we use gmail for work). It doesn't happen in Chrome with my personal email. (I keep the 2 separate).
It is random. I'll be in the middle of typing an email, or even in a completely different browser tab, and all of a sudden this new tab appears. I looked in my browser history, and the title/name of the blank-ish page is "d=1" if that helps at all. The link for it is "https://mail.google.com/_/mail-static/_/js/main/m_i,t,it/rt=h/ver=zTjBkdZKIgg.en./sv=1/am=!FdCGt3q8VOT1Ne3a1PgLRqGYa7IriUygbC-Ajh0aWMBugrZHJt6vTTHhsPLUaAUgjyHj/d=1"

In reply to wdurham:- No, it is totally random, as described by asatterlund, you can be doing something on your machine in an Internet Explorer tab, and suddenly you notice there is another instance of Internet Explorer.
(looking down at the taskbar, you see a second button)
Oddly enough, since I posted about the problem, It has not re-occured.....yet!

I have never seen this reported before - but it seems for some reason, Internet Explorer is calling one of the standard Google pages/files from the static store. Weird is the word! - especially if it happens only in IE and can happen when you aren't even working in Gmail, but in another tab altogether.
It might be worth trying some basic troubleshooting things:
First update your browser to the latest version
Clear cache and cookies
Try disabling any browser extensions and starting the browser again
Temporarily disable your virus checker - particularly any of its add-ons/extensions that interfere with your access to the web or attempt to check your email.
Try another browser to see if the behaviour persists

Happened three times in the last couple of hours.
Just now, it woke my monitor whilst I was watching TV!
My OS is Vista Ultimate, so The newest browser version Microsoft allows me to have is IE 9.
Already cleared the cache, think I'll use the "No Add-on's" version for a day or two.
Failing that, I do have FF and Chrome to try!
