¦¦¦ Ecology Collection NL ¦¦¦ Gerardo64 2/10/06 8:31 AM
The purpose of this post is to make a collection of several posts about ecology from differents authors, from this community and others. It will be updated as new posts appears. I´ll try to select posts with lots of info, pictures, links, not those where there is just a placemark of a nice or natural place. Per definition: Ecology: the branch of biology concerned with the relations between organisms and their environment. Hope you´ll find here stimulus to be in love with the planet in a deeply and harmonious way.

October 18 - 2008 / EDIT: I´ve made this collection years ago because in that momment there wasn´t any "Environment & Consevation" Forum. But since it exists, I didn´t update this network link, so there is a bunch of interesting posts that doesn´t show up here. Thanks.

To union project also include map of a major migratory birds flyways. Zoom into the areas where the cases are reported. Most of them are surrounded with dump habitat, lakes, bogs, paddy fields. Look a the dates. Compare with typical dates of bird migration. Think.

¦¦¦ Ocean Surface Topography '92 / '04 ¦¦¦ Gerardo64 2/15/06 7:18 PM
The year-to-year and, even, decade-to-decade changes in the ocean that indicate climate events such as the El Niño, La Niña and Pacific Decadal Oscillation are dramatically visualized by these data. Sea-surface height is the most modern and powerful tool for taking the "pulse" of the global oceans. Graphics of each month from 1992 till 2004.

¦¦¦ UV Radiation Exposure 1978 / 2004 ¦¦¦ Gerardo64 2/17/06 6:57 AM
NASA’s Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) provides measurements that enable scientists to accurately estimate how much of the sun’s UV-B (290 to 320 nm) radiation reaches the Earth's surface. Too much exposure to these wavelengths causes sunburn in human skin.

The false-color image above is a global map, averaged from TOMS snapshots collected every day over a one-month period, showing where more or less UV radiation reaches the surface. Yellow pixels show the highest levels of radiation at the surface, red and pink hues are intermediate values, and white indicates little or no UV exposure.

Re: ¦¦¦ Ecology Collection NL ¦¦¦ nutscode 8/16/06 8:09 AM
Hello Gerard,

Great collection of eco layers, I'm working on a GE-layer about thermoregulation, I think the same topic. We made a pretty big collection infrared images of animals to learn a little about their energy-efficiëncy tools. It should be possible to put the right animal more or less at the right spot (a polar bear on the pole, a lion in africa) and include their most important thermoregulating tools (fat, feathers, migration, color, things like that). A rough idea can be found at this link.

web page

I put the collection on www.nutscode.com. Because I'm not an GE-expert it might take a while, suggestions are very welcome.

Greetings,

Arno

Hi WilloxH

Yes, this Network Link is not updated since a long time ago.
I created it when the Environment & Conservation Forum didn´t exist. But then, after the BBS added the same Forum in a Moderated version, I considered that it was not necessary to keep this NL updated as the most important posts regarding with this were already highligthed in this Moderated Forum.

Thanks for the update info!
