Singapore Version 4.2!!! This is the latest update.
|Re: Singapore, the FINE City - Version 4.2 (UPDATE||ben29||10/21/05 10:22 AM|
Thanks for the update.
Should not it be version 3.4 rather than a jump to 4.2?
Just curious. Dont take this as an offence, ok.
Keep it up.
|Re: Singapore, the FINE City - Version 4.2 (UPDATE||chionh||10/23/05 9:29 AM|
The version number is based on the number of placemarks I have added.
If there is a significant addition in placemarks, the digit is increased.
If it is minor correction or addition, the decimal point is increased
From Ver3.3 to Ver4.0, over 350 placemarks and new categroies were added.
After Ver4.0, I have made some minor changes and additions, so the increment is on the decimal point.
I hope the above is in line with the norm for version naming.
If it is not the case, please feel free to let me know.

|Errors ? Or bug in Google Earth?||chionh||11/5/05 11:57 AM|
Thanks for your various comments and below is my response:
keewei: "Sorry...Your Geylang Lor 1 Terminal is Placed Wrongly."
chionh: Thanks for pointing out this error. The placemark is indeed wrongly placed at People's Assoication.
It should be south-east of Kallang MRT station. It will updated in Version 4.6.
keewei: "The Duman High School is NOT Parliament House."
chionh: On my Google Earth, there is no error in the name of the placemark. See below capture of my screen.
Are you referring to this placemark? I am not sure where the error is. Please enlighten.
keewei: "Suntec City Tower 2 is not PWC Building.Thank You"
keewei: "Raffles Hotel is NOTBeside The Oriental Hotel"
chionh: Same puzzle here. See below picture. Suntec city Tower 2 is labelled correctly.
The Ritz-Carlton not Raffles Hotel is beside The Oriental. Raffles Hotel is some distance to the north-west of The Oriental
keewei: "Please Be Informed that Sultan Mosque is not Suntec City"
chionh: The Sultan Mosque is correctly labelled on my screen. How does it appear on yours?
keewei: "Lau Pat Sat is not Bugis Village"
chionh: Lau Pat Sat is correctly labelled. You can see PWC Building to the north-west of Lau Pat Sat too.
To the Other readers of this thread,
Perhaps you may want to download the Singapore placemark collection (Ver 4.5) and take a look.
Let me know what you see on your Google Earth screen.
Following are the location of the above-mentioned placemarks:
1. Singapore > Educational Institutions > Integrated Programme Schools > Dunman High School
2. Singapore > Districts > City Hall/Marina > Hotels
3. Singapore > Districts > City Hall/Marina > Suntec City
4. Singapore > Places of Worship > Mosque > Sultan Mosque
5. Singapore > Districts > Raffles Place/Shenton Way > Lau Pat Sat
Your help is appreciated.
Have we uncovered a bug in Google Earth?
|Re: Errors ? Or bug in Google Earth?||carbine_silencer||11/5/05 1:37 PM|
ITE College East hasn't even been constructed in this picture. You placed it at Singapore Expo Hall 1 (N 1* 19' 57.46", E 103* 57' 26.32"), however its CENTRE location should be the field 368.28m, vector 315.
The actual location should be (central location): N 1* 20' 05.06", E 103* 57' 17.26".
You might as well take away "ITE College East" altogether to prevent confusion.
When I turn on the marker for the Google Earth Community, looks like there are still blunders in your identification. You placed Tanah Merah Station (EW4) at Simei Station (EW3). You should also delete that.
Sorry for the lack of pictures.
|Re: Errors ? Or bug in Google Earth?||chionh||11/5/05 10:30 PM|
Thanks for pointing out the error on ITE College East. Will correct it in my next update.
As for Simei MRT Station, you should download the original KMZ file that I have created and attached to the main post of this thread for viewing. If you switch on the Simei MRT station placemark in my original collection, you should see the Public Transport icon with the the MRT station name "Simei" (See below left picture). It is correctly placed. If you switch it off and turn on the Google Earth Community layering, you should see what is on the below right.
I have also included Tanah Merah MRT for your comparison.
The Google Earth Community layering uses "i" as their icon. This Google Earth Community layering is created by Google based on placemarks submitted by the entire community. Apparently they have used the data in the Singapore collection I have compiled.
HOWEVER, I have just discovered that when they "extract" the data from my collection, there may be some corruption of data at their end. As such many placemarks have been placed in a grossly wrong location. I will take up this issue with the people in charge of the forum.
I would like to state clearly that although the collection I have compiled is not 100% perfect, due effort has been put in to ensure each placemarks are correct. For an accurate Singapore placemark collection, one should download and view the KMZ attachment found in the main post of this thread.

|Re: Singapore, the Lion City - Version 4.6 (UPDATE||PenguinOpus||11/12/05 1:12 PM|
I'm not sure why this happened and its a bit hard to confirm since we no longer have v4.3 of your dataset, but... we will try to figure out if there is a problem during extraction that creates duplicate (and wrong) data points.
Your work to make this collection is really appreciated and seems to be heavily used. The reason it was noticed so much on November 5th was that for a few days, "Earth Browsing" sub-layer was enabled by default, so many more people saw it automatically.
|Re: Singapore, the Lion City - Version 4.6 (UPDATE||chionh||11/13/05 7:49 AM|
If you need it, I still have the v4.3 KMZ file.
There are too many errors to list all, but if I can list a few to help in your investigation.
Just PM me.

Hi, not sure this is the right place coz I'm new here, but just found this placemark "Vietnam" in the middle of holland road ( 1°18'52.87"N 103°47'46.96"E) and the link led to here.
What's the right way to go about correcting it?

You dropped your icons all over the map and you haven't inserted anything useful in the describing text of the spot e.g. NTU Nanyang Technological University and I once again see a skyline of the city...
