Cruise Ship Collection OGO50 7/5/06 1:10 PM
This is a work in progress and my first attempt at posting a collection of placemarks. There are currently 110 ships in the file. I will attempt to update it on a regular basis with ship info and pictures when available.

Some of the ships are identified but many are not.

All info, corrections, and ships to add to the collection will be greatly appreciated.

Recently launched, the Royal Caribbean ship Freedom of the Seas is the largest cruise ship afloat. It can be seen moored at Cozumel. Thank you Accagas!!

Launched: 2006
Passengers: 3,634
Registry: Bahamas Tonnage: 158,000
Crew: 1,360
Decks: 15

Re: Cruise Ship Collection bjaber 7/5/06 3:41 PM
Don't forget Skagway and Ketchikan (both in Alaska). There's some there.
Re: Cruise Ship Collection OGO50 7/6/06 8:40 AM
I do have four ships in Ketchikan, but I won't be posting ships that are in low-res areas such as Skagway.

That's another thing that makes the GE updates exciting. There's always new stuff to find.

Re: Cruise Ship Collection - REGAL EMPRESS widerberg 9/12/06 7:55 AM
Hello, All:

I've created a .kmz file for Imperial Majesty's REGAL EMPRESS (ex OLYMPIA, CARIBE I). She sails to Nassau from Port Everglades and usually uses one of four berths/slips at the port. She's in one of the northern ones in this iteration. She's a neat old ship, albeit a bit long in the tooth and not very well taken care of.

Hallo OGO50

About the Costa Classica.

found some information maybe of your interest.

NEWLY BUILT, BUT ALREADY SCRAPPED
In the Rotterdam port a new segment of a cruiseship lies ready for scrapping. The fifteen story high segment was recently built in Great brittain for an italian shipping firm. It cost more than 70 milion euro's to build. The 6500 ton heavy giant, with 350 huts, a sundeck and a shopping promenade, an existing ship, the Costa Classica, was to be lengthened.Because of problems at the yard in Liverpool the extension was delayed, causing the Italians to back out of the deal. The segment became superfluous and the shipyard went bankrupt. The segment will be stripped in Rotterdam for reuse. Furniture and inventory were sold to a themepark.

R O T T E R D A M
Hardly an everyday scene in the port of Rotterdam today. On top of a barge, pulled by tug boats, the midsection of a cruiseship has entered the harbour. It originates from the inventory of a bankrupt shipyard in the english Birkinhead. The midsection (44meters high, 40meters long and 32meters wide) was intended for lengthening an existing cruiseship. The new owners, the Rotterdam crane company Hapo and entrepreneurs H. van der Most and S. Soenen, want to dismantle the midsection: van der Most, who surprised everybody earlier by converting a former nuclear plant in the german town of Kalkar into an recreational resort Kernwasserwunderland, wants to use the inventory for new hotel projects. The fourteen story high midsection holds 457 hotelrooms with complete sanitation modules. Hapo and the Belgian entrepreneur Soenen are interested in the steel and engines.

Re: Cruise Ship Collection ber_mflores 10/26/06 4:46 AM
Hello OGO50!

You have a placemark on Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship is not identified. Could that be Voyager of the Seas??? I can be wrong about it.

Re: Cruise Ship Collection OGO50 10/27/06 10:47 AM
ber_mflores!!

It could very well be the Voyager. There is also a Disney and a Carnival ship at Port Canaveral due to the recent image update. I plan to get them in the collection soon and update the rest as well.

Thanks!

Re: Cruise Ship Collection david16wb 11/3/06 1:11 AM
Not sure if this "Tall Ship" in Acapulco bay is a Cruiser or perhaps a Navy training vessel or something similar - any experts out there ?
Re: Cruise Ship Collection david16wb 11/7/06 1:42 AM
2 more Cruise ships in Villefranche (used as the harbour for day trips to Monaco I believe). There is also a 3rd a mile or two due West docked in Nice.

Thanks for the info!!

There are a total of four cruise ships in port at Helsinki. I had only one marked. I suspect that it has something to do with the recent image update. At any rate, I have eliminated several that were lost in the update and continue to add new ones.

Greetings OGO 50...
More for your collection.
(too much spare time lately - LOL )

TWO SISTERS
smaller unmarked Cruise ships at Venice, and Cadiz.
(thought I saw Dalmacija marked previously - but no more ??)

M/S DALMACIJA (6411964)
built Pula, Croatia 1965
seen at Venice, Italy - summer 2003 ?
currently operated by Croatian Cruise Lines
More at Adriatic Cruises , and Unique World Cruises

M/S ARION (6419057)
ex Nautilus 2000, Astra I, Astra, built as Istra - 1965
seen at Cadiz, Spain - April / May 2005 ?
currently operated by Classic International Cruises
More at: Classic International , and Unique World Cruises

Thanks Again
ts
Re: Cruise Ship Collection OGO50 1/20/07 10:01 AM
Because of their small size (both well under 400 ft) and the lack of a pool on the Dalmacija, I hesitated to classify them as bona fide cruise ships. Hence they did not get placed into the collection.

There seems to be quite a few ships in the Mediterranian that are borderline between cruise vessels and ferries.

I'll do a little more work on them and see. The Arion at least will probably get in.

Thanks ts!!!
Re: Cruise Ship Collection toldu 2/6/07 7:38 AM
were you say the Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Seas is thats not where its suposed to dock. its the Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas . I went on the Explorer of the Seas and that is were it docked.I went on the cruse in 2005 and thats when the satalite photoes were taken.

Tall ship in Acapulco is Russian fourmastbark Kruzenshtern in time of trip around the world in 2005/2006 (01.02.06 - 05-02-06).

Hier is a picture of staying on anchor in Acapulco:

Re: Cruise Ship Collection diegocs 5/12/07 9:54 AM
a great collection, I think that the costa cruiser in malaga is the "costa concordia" if the other of this class is the "costa magica" ,are Very easy to identify because it is like the carnival destiny with a different funnel. I´ve seen it too in Civitavecchia, is the same ship because costa only have two of this class for now (actually, the third one is constructed in genova) . In this port we can see too the "msc armonia". (maybe the "msc sinfonia", I´ve seen it too one of this class in Genova), isn´t the "msc lirica" nor the "msc opera", this two are in the north sea routes
Is this helpfull for you?
Diego
