Yep but the world isn't only the Atlantic coast
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0b) Mike_in_Florida 9/13/05 8:15 AM
LOL agreed. We (me too) do tend to focus on 'our little corner of the world'
I visit NOAA.org and map what they are tracking.

If they track the world, I would post those overlays as well.

(in the USA) The Pacific is relativly quiet and when there has been activity it has stayed away from Mexico and California.

Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide datas Panther0137 9/16/05 7:27 AM
Are you planning on continuing to furnish this for good? Or should someone else agree to host it.

The reason I am asking is because I have been looking for something
like this to augment my other advance warning weather software.

I am an Amateur Radio Operator involved in Amateur Radio Emergency
Services. I track storms all over the US and this is a great piece of work.

I might be able to locate a server for this if it is needed in order to make
sure this placement is available from now on.

Let me know.

Again, GREAT work.

Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da glooton 9/16/05 7:45 AM
Thanks, for this offert, but this future is hosted on dedicated server with 20 Mbps of bandwidth (and not overloaded for now) and i think it's enough to hold the datas and serve it to the community.
However, if we have a problem in the futur, i will "pm" you.

Ps : Sorry for my poor english
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da glooton 9/17/05 3:19 PM
Another sample if you click on the RED name of each hurricane you can have more informations and some (4) Satellite pictures centered on the hurricane position
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da glooton 9/18/05 3:11 PM
Actualy, you can follow 8 storms (hurricanes).

" Rita " is may be the next one dangerous hurricane to track near the US coast

This is really an excellent piece of work. I've been looking for a storm tracker like this for quite a while.

Thank you for sharing it.

Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da glooton 9/21/05 4:16 AM
just added the 10 closest known cities of each hurricanes (the red points) with some more datas (km from the hurricanes)
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da Frank4 9/21/05 11:23 AM
I just noticed in your description balloon for the Hurricanes (at least for Rita) you are showing the wind speed in "knt", but the number given is actually "mph". This is NOT a 145 KNOT storm, just 145 MPH. :-)
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da glooton 9/21/05 12:07 PM
the wind speed is really in "knt" (1 knt=1,852 km/h) and you have 2 datas in the description balloon, the maximum sustained wind in storm of 120 knt (the first speed data ,now for rita) and the maximum wind gusts in storm of 145 knt.
=> 120 knt = 222 km/h = 138 mph (about 145 mph)

ps: i have changed the description balloon to be more "international"

Works fine for me...
Have you enable the link "hurricanes live positions" in GE ?
(Sometimes, if you refresh the placemark, with a right click on the link then select refresh, it works, the data may be was updated when you load the placemark)

Ps: are you sure to have the last version of GE ?
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da katanna 9/21/05 1:04 PM
Thanks! I updated GE and it works now!
Rita just got upgraded with 165 MPH...

Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide da glooton 9/22/05 10:17 AM
Each overlay is calculated with the coordonates of the center of hurricane (it moves when the hurricane move), and placed automatically with a script, but the world is not a plan and sometime it doesn't match as it should , that's why we have choose to include these datas but not enable each overlay automatically.
Sorry for theses slips.
Re: Hurricanes live positions (v 1.0) worldwide datas gmprod 9/22/05 3:32 PM
GREAT STUFF!!!!

This has been my best source for Rita information all day. And the overlay let me watch the thunderstorms coming up here in Michigan.

I did some googling for some webcams in the Houston area (I was surprised there weren't some already listed on GEC). The attached placemark's annotation has links to some area webcam pages.

Why to be so stupid (the datas aren't refreshed every seconds, 10 minutes is the good value).

Wilma Time Kol 10/17/05 1:15 PM
Still one of coolest and most useful kmz's I've seen.

At this point, Wilma is a matter of concern if not only for the record matched for named Atlantic storms since '33. Her projected track threatens to land a third punch right where the U.S. is bleeding the most and in a vital area.

Glooton, the service you people are providing is simply priceless. This one has become a welcomed addition to my daily routine.

Wilma is zigging and zagging this way and that but the current track based on the Dynamic Overlay is spot on with other projections I've seen. More detailed, in fact.

Perhaps adding cam shots within the possible range of landfall? Narrowing down as the storm approaches?

Much thanks and respect.

This guy needs to be given some kind of award for this. Without doubt, this is the most complete weather tracking application ever created in the time of man. I have access to several official sources of data in my work as EMA director for my City. Nothing else out there is nearly as useful as this.

Job very well done.

Hello,

Thanks for creating this data layer! However, I'm running into some problems using it. The tracks all display, but they are jumbled up, with a lot of "zig-zagging" going on between various positions. I have the latest version of GE, and I've tried deleting and re-downloading the kmz link, but it hasn't cleared up the problem. I've seen no one else here mention this, so I thought I'd ask about it.

Thanks for your help!

You may have to try clearing your Cache.. <GE - File - Server Logout - Tools - Options - Cache - Delete Cache.

It is tracking many Storms and is updated for this season. Try Unchecking all the storms then add one in at a time..
